The view of the beach & Cozumel from my seat
    Jeffery T.

We ate there twice. My g/f & her brother each had the fried tilapia & RAVED about it the first time we ate here. I had the grilled octopus the first time and enjoyed it. The second time we ate here I had the grilled shrimp, as did my g/f & her brother had the fried tilapia. I was not as happy with the shrimp as it was served with the shells still attached. Our server was attentive and helpful, there was a guitar player just on the beach who was playing for the restaurant, and he was good. So a nice atmosphere with a great view, & pretty good food!

Still my favorite after 20 years. Strongest Margaritas, freshest and most flavorful fish filet in town. Great service and setting at the oldest operating restaurant in Playa

The view and location are amazing. The food was mediocre at best. Ceviche had not enough seafood in it, too many tomatoes and onions. The fish fillet with Chipotle sauce was good, however the sauce overpowers the taste of the fish. Margaritas I would give 2/5, nice presentation, however they taste like a diluted juice, can't taste or feel alcohol. The best parts were whole fried fish, guacamole and fresh coconut. Definitely worth what you are paying for. Otherwise I wouldn't come back.

MY. TOES. ARE. IN. THE. SAND !!!!!! Talk about the best location ever for a beach restaurant. One short block off of the infamous 5th Avenue, with all it's glitter, this place is ideally located. It looks like it has been there since 1968. S ome of the tables are actually in the sand, just a few yards from the sea. It is so entertaining to juzt be there and people watch. I was here almost 2 hours, as it took my waiter that long to greet me, take my order, serve my food, and bring my check. No burn ànd turn here ! No worries about becoming intoxicated, I only managed to get 2 beers out of my server in all that time. It would appear that there is no rush to wait on folks fast here in Mexico. Also, the majority of the servers here in mexico are guys. However, most of the cashiers are women ??? After going over the entire menu several times, I settled on a shrimp stuffed avacado. GOOD CHOICE !!!! I pictured little bay shrimp with mayonesa inside 2 half avocados. Nope.........generous sized shrimp cut into perfect pieces, tossed with chopped onion, tomato, cilantro and oil. What a delightful surprise. Truly refreshing. Then a couple from Australia invited me to sit with them while I waited for my check. They frequent this restaurant even though their hotel was quite a distance away. And have for years. Wow, quite the endorsement ! So, excellent location, good food, great view, atmosphere up the ___ , interesting people, but slow service. T H E T O I L E T I S C L E A N A N D. H A S A S E A T .....Y AAAA Y

I stopped here for dinner when I visited Playa del Carmen for a day trip. This is right on the beach at one of the main entrance. When I first entered the restuarant, I stood by the entrance waiting for a hostess. But no one greeted me upon entering. So I walked up to the counter and asked them if I can sit outside. The man got one of the waiters to escort me to the seats outside. I ordered the nachos appetizer which was very delicious! I highly recommend it. By itself it was very filling, but since I was on vacation, I splurged and got a fish entree. Prior to coming to Mexico, there was a specific fish dish I wanted to try. Unfortunately I didn't not write down the name of it. On their menu they had about 5 fish entrees, but no pictures to let you know what you're ordering. The description wasn't helpful. I wasn't able to Google each entree to find the one I was looking for, so I just went with whatever sounded good. My waiter wasn't welcoming so I couldn't ask him for his opinion on the dish. The fish dish I ended up with was good but not amazing. Flavor was lacking. But all in all, it was a good dinner with a nice view. The price was very reasonable.

We had a great experience here. This place has character and isn't too far from shopping. Service was not fantastic, but the location on the beach made for nice views and a great vibe. We had the guacamole, which I literally ate all of. The flavor was good and the chips were homemade. They serve a spicy onion water...it's not salsa...with the chips. Shrimp ceviche was perfection. I'm giving this 5 stars because of the snapper. We shared a 2lb whole snapper. It was fabulous! Light, fluffy, crispy and not fishy at all. It came with fresh tortillas, which were delicious. Some of the best fish I have had. I would go here again!

    Fried whole fish is great!

This is a great place to sit on the beach and grab lunch. Our friend brought us here after he visited in the past and we all enjoyed our food. Most of us got the full fish or a fillet, ceviche, guacamole and the octopus which all tasted great. The margarita was ok but not the best. I preferred sangria and my friends just ordered beer or tequila. There's a bathroom with running water and tp unlike some bars on the beach that use outhouses. Staff were all friendly and service was fast. In the past week we have been here 3 times. It's also affordable/cheap for the amount you get.

The service is quick, the prices are incredibly reasonable, and the food is consistently delicious. Before your meal even arrives, you're served a plate of fresh radishes, cucumber, and lime wedges, plus a selection of toppings including tomatoes, onions, and both a green and red salsa. Unfortunately this location didn't give us the cactus like the other locations did. The red salsa was my favourite, it paired perfectly with the tacos and had just the right amount of heat and flavour. The standout for me was the al pastor taco. The meat was incredibly flavourful with crispy edges, a smoky char, and the perfect balance of savoury spice and sweet pineapple. It was easily one of the best al pastor tacos I had in Playa del Carmen. I also tried the sirloin taco and the chicken breast plate, both of which were excellent. The portions were generous, everything tasted fresh, and the quality was impressive, especially for the price. El Fogón absolutely lived up to the hype. If you're looking for authentic, delicious tacos and grilled meats that won't break the bank, this is a must visit. I loved it so much that I ended up eating at all three locations and every visit was just as good as the last.

I guess they weren't prepared for it to be this busy on a Wednesday night. The food was all really good, except for the fish. It was grilled well but tasted a bit dry. I recommend getting the Seafood Ceviche because they make it with coconut milk, which was different from all the other ceviches we had on our trip. Location 5/5, Service 5/5, Food 4/5, Drinks 5/5, Clientele…read more2/5 *more on that below* This spot has one of the best beachside settings in Playa del Carmen. The entire restaurant, including the bar, is literally set in the sand, with tables right on the water just a few feet from the ocean. It's barefoot, toes in the sand dining done right, and the atmosphere alone makes it worth the visit. We did have one hiccup in the evening due to a rowdy group from a drone company that was extremely intoxicated and invasive of our space. Their belongings kept ending up on our table, and there were drunk men taking their shirts off and doing shots just a few feet away. Not sure if they didn't have enough tables or what, but we had made a reservation to celebrate a special event months in advanced, so it was a bit irritating. The servers eventually handled it and intervened multiple times, but at no point were they asked to move or relocate. Once that group settled down, the night became a much more enjoyable experience. We were a party of 12, and every single person raved about both their food and drinks. For drinks we had: Prickly Pear: Made with Orange Blossom Condesa Gin, St Germain, fresh lemon juice, rosemary syrup, mint, and strawberry. Bright and refreshing, though it came with more foam on top than expected. Coco Loco: A fresh whole coconut with Patrón Silver tequila, vodka, rum, gin, pineapple juice, and coconut cream. A true showstopper. Don't be intimidated by the mix of liquor, it is smooth, refreshing, and dangerously easy to drink. No hangovers were had. Espresso Martini: Simple and clean with a light foam. Well executed, but not a signature cocktail compared to the others. For food we had: We were surprised with an amuse bouche of huitlacoche, often called Mexican truffle. It's a corn fungus with a rich, earthy flavor and this small bite was outstanding and set the tone for the meal. Queso Fundido: Oaxaca cheese with chorizo and flour tortillas. Great flavor, but very thick, making it a bit messy and difficult to serve. Guacamole: Prepared with tomato, onion, cilantro, and cotija cheese. Perfectly seasoned, fresh, and especially enjoyable paired with the queso fundido. Brisket: Served in chileatole sauce with huitlacoche truffle, carrots, and cotija cheese. Comforting, rich, and deeply flavorful. Robalo Guayaba: Guava sea bass served in guava sauce with chiltepín chili. Beautifully cooked with just a little too much sweetness and citrus. It would have benefited from a little bit of heat, or a vegetable or side to pair it with, as it is not served with anything other than a cooked slices of lemon. Creme Brulee Mexicano: A rice pudding infused crème brûlée with caramel and vanilla ice cream. A thoughtful twist on the classic, with the rice pudding adding depth and warmth to the dessert. Knocked down to 4 stars due to the rowdiness of some surrounding guests. We were seated on the sand and needed to walk through the entirety of the restaurant, but people without tables or reservations were standing in the middle of walkways and sitting on the steps down to the beach, many too intoxicated to stand up. I'm hopeful this is not the usual clientele, and I would return for the quality of the food, drinks, and the gorgeous setting.
