A rare day in Florida with a clear blue sky and perfect temps in the 60's. I started out with Estrella on draft, a lager brewed in Barcelona, while we delved into the many options of tapas. Fitting for a larger group of people to sample the spirit of Spain while relaxing outside to drinks and chit chat. We went with pan con tamate, stuffed piquillo peppers, batatas bravas, octopus à la Gallegos, and garlic shrimp. A flavorful journey into Spain. This is a sleeper of an outstanding restaurant. Tucked into a corner of this strip center, it's dark inside. To the degree that it seems a bit depressing. We ate outside and it was delightful. By the time we left the inside was about 75% full and outside about 1/3. The dry white wine from Spain was delicious and at a reasonable price. The empanadas combo - shrimp - chicken - beef - spinach, well honestly, the best I've had in US. Served at the right temperature - hot - overly stuffed- crispy exterior - a sure standout. The white beans with garlic and huge shrimps were heaven on my taste buds. A definite eeorded when returning. And the crème brûlée was served warm and beautifully presented. This is authentic Spanish food. And the owner/chef, Carlos, is from Spain. Not Colombia. Not Cuba. Not any other Spanish speaking country. SPAIN. For real. And he is outstanding. Santiago was our server. Eager. Bright. Knew all the dishes. Made helpful recommendations. He will be our requested server when we return for dinner and a flamenco show. Can't wait! If you're the patron who drives up in a huge Mercedes. Or Bentley. Or Porsche. We decided to check out La Terraza after seeing they had weekday happy hour until 7 PM, and everything exceeded our expectations! We started with their sangria, which was delicious--refreshing and perfectly balanced. I definitely want to try the sparkling sangria next time. We also ordered the pan con tomate (tomatoes on bread), which was simple but full of flavor. They bring out fresh bread with olive oil at the beginning, and it's so good we could've just eaten that all night. We also had the patatas bravas, which were incredible and tasted super authentic--crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and the sauce was perfect. The service was great from start to finish, and we found out the chef is from Spain, which makes total sense because the food was on point. Would definitely go back again. This pretty little place is lovely to go to. The staff is top notch, some of the sweetest people every - awesome job on the hiring there! The service is alway with a smile and so much appreciated pleasantry - even with large parties. The food it terrific: all of the tapas we've tried (and we've been going there often lately) have all been so yummy (the shrimp, the garbanzos & spinach, the spinach and manchego empanadas, etc.). Recently we had a large party and also got paella for the first time. It was delicious! Not overly seasoned just good clean food. Their happy hours are also very good. I highly recommend. I also got patatas bravas which was good but had to add some salt to it. queso de cabra relleno (goat cheese and crab meat) was my favorite! She had to return the first one which I believe was a spinach pie of swords. I opted for the ham and cheese croquette which was not good in flavor. The second item that my guest ordered also was really bad in flavor another coquette. When they are on a Friday night when Sicilian oven next-door was crazy busy and this place was struggling, not even a third full in the middle of season. We were a party of three. We shared tapas, then went on to the main course. My order consisted of ham croquettes and shrimp in garlic sauce. I asked them to omit the hot peppers with the shrimp due to allergy to capsicum. They accommodated me. Also the bread was perfect. Crunchy on the outside, soft and warm on the inside. It's served with oil. I asked for butter and quickly received it. The service was amazing. If I lifted my head, the waitress was there. Waters were refilled without having to ask for it. Drinks were delicious; neither too strong nor weak. The walls, art and ceiling were definitely reminding me of my trip to Madrid. The restaurant was about half full at our reservation time, 6:30pm. We went to La Terraza for a family birthday celebration. The dinner began with delicious sangria (and a great wine menu) along with piping hot baguette imported from Spain. My daughter who is gluten intolerant is able to eat this bread. The tapas menu is large and includes incredible dishes like gambas al ajillo , patatas bravas, torta espanola, dates with goat cheese wrapped in bacon, pulpo and assorted croquettas. Amazing new restaurant in Boca!!! I've been waiting for a great tapas spot to open up after many disappointing experiences with others in South Florida. The only truly great one is Bulla in Miami which is an untenable drive from Boca. Happy to review that THIS is the PLACE! We walked in late on a Friday night and were greeted enthusiastically by staff. The decor and ambiance is so romantic and cozy. For dinner, we ordered the charcuterie platter with pan con tomate (the BEST + traditional Spanish combo!!). After, we decided on the ham croquettes, patatas bravas, and filet mignon montaditos. Absolutely every dish was on point -- delicious flavors and very fresh. We can't wait to go back and try more, including their delicious Paella!! Our waitress, a young college student, was wonderful and attentive as well. We left full but wanting more. We will definitely be back! I rarel post reviews but anyone considering this place really deserves a warning. Aside from a pleasant server, this place was an incredible disappointment. The prices were high ($100 for 1 glass of sangria and 4 small tapas), the portions not only small but weak on ingredients, the quality was awful. The waitress asked how we felt and we told her the truth. She apologized and offered us a free desert. She went to get it and came back to tell us she was told by her boss she couldn't do that. Neither the owner or manager even bothered to come by. My wife is from Spain and was embarrassed by the experience. I enjoy Spanish food but this was by no means representational of it.
