This was quite possibly one of the worst dining experiences of my life. My husband and I came here for the NYE tasting menu, and wow, what a racket. They held us hostage for over FOUR hours, as their incredibly incompetent staff ran around the room like chickens with their heads cutoff. We arrived at 8pm and didn't get our first course until after 9:15pm. I understand we are living in some trying times post COVID, and I am very willing to have compassion for the waitstaff, but for a Michelin star restaurant, this was truly abysmal. Not only was the service atrocious, but the food was awful. Like genuinely BAD. My husband and I eat everything and rarely do we complain about the food and portion size, but the food was literally inedible. We had to leave the entire dessert because it was that bad. We had a noodle "truffle" dish that literally looked like Top Ramen noodles with no flavor. How is it even possible to have a truffle dish with no flavor? Our water and wine glasses were perpetually empty. We had to repeatedly beg for refills. I can go on and on, but what I really don't understand is how this establishment can still maintain a highly coveted Michelin star with such appalling service and terrible, terrible food. And get this, the bill? $1,600. Repulsive. Michelin Inspectors, if you are listening, strip this restaurant of its star now. read more

Sometimes you find the right combination of food, service and ambiance that makes for a memorable dining experience. La Toque is not that. We celebrated my birthday with a dinner at La Toque while visiting Napa and decided to try this Michelin star restaurant. It was very underwhelming. While our server was sweet and attentive, she massively oversold several dishes (we tried six, including dessert) and each failed to even come close to the hype. From the truffle sandwich that cost $60 to the sponge cake dessert with orange mascarpone that was frozen rather than creamy, we did not have a single memorable bite of food. Do yourself a favor and don't fall for the Michelin star rating. Find another place in Napa that puts their love in every dish rather than just getting a dish on your table. read more

We stayed at the Westin Verasa hotel and conveniently had dinner at La Toque because it is right at the hotel. The service was very tentative, and noise level was okay for a Sunday night. Romantic atmosphere with dimmed lights but the interior decor could have been better for an expensive restaurant. Now review for foods. We had the four course menu. I absolutely love the beef carpaccio; it had so much flavor and it just melted in your mouth!! By far the best cappaccio I had, so if you normally like it, it is a must try. My second favorite was the pasta with the mushrooms, so delicious too! Had lots of flavors and just the perfect amount of softness. Highly recommended it as well. Third course was the fish. I had to say I was disappointed at this dish because the fish was rough and a bit dry. My entree was the pork tenderloin which was good, but not a wow-delicious-must-try. I skipped desert as I didn't want any from the desert menu. Nonetheless, they serve sweets at the end of the meal for every table, so that could be the desert. I would give 4.5 stars for foods because of the dry fish (wish there could be a half star). I also tried my husband's dish. The salad was delicious, love the cheese soufflé, and the beef was yummy but could be better though. My husband and I each got the vegetarian tasting menu, plus the wine pairing each and one latte for myself. Our tab was 500, including the 20 percent service charge that is automatically added to the tab. There were only 5 dishes served (two amuse bouches) and usually for that price price I see 6-8 dishes for vegetarian tasting menus. Also the wine pours were very small and 5 wines in total. None of the dishes were really noteworthy other than the dessert and we have been to a few high end restaurants. None of the dishes really impressed. It was worth a shot, but we would not return. The service here, however, was superb. The food just doesn't deliver. We have had much better experiences at a lower price point. I am surprised this place has a Michelin Star. Dined at La Toque for an anniversary celebration last weekend, and it was far from meeting expectations. Food - overall was fine, but honestly nothing about any singular course stood out as memorable or inventive. A series of individually acceptable courses does not make for a fine dining home run, and we've eaten at other Michelin-rated restaurants (and many non-rated) where the food was much more savory, with striking flavors and colors that were worth talking about. Each course at La Toque felt like it was phoned in, with a lot of descriptive terms but when it comes to flavor and texture it tasted much like a perfectly acceptable meal at a restaurant for 1/5 the price. Most courses were variations on the theme of brown, and presented as if a swirl of sauce dribbled across the plate was still an impressive expression of art. Now, I'm not saying it was bad. It was all fine, even good at times. But for this price point and for a star-rated restaurant, I can reasonably expect much more and this experience came nowhere close. One example, we were tempted to try a truffle and cheese sandwich, for a considerable upcharge of over $100, which we shared. When it arrived, it looked like grilled cheese from a diner (four diamond-shaped sliced stacked in a row) and actually tasted just like that. A grilled cheese and mushroom sandwich. Try as we might, there was no indication of the truffle aromatics or flavors. Maybe those flavors, which are very temperature-sensitive, were cooked out? Maybe Australian truffles are a fun name for regular mushrooms? We've had truffles many times, and this tasted like classic button mushrooms, cheese, and butter. As for service, it was pleasant and polite but very rushed. We blew through the full tasting menu with wine pairings in under two hours, and were a little unsure of what to do with the rest of the evening. The wine pairings were wonderful, although surprising how few came from the Napa area. The sommelier was pleasant, but each wine pairing simply came with the wine name and varietal announced, and nothing more. We've been to many fine dining tasting and wine pairings where each pour was accompanied by some winery background or details on the vintage, growing season, etc. I can read the wine labels on the menu, and don't need to hear that simply repeated. So, overall, rather disappointing. It takes a lot to spend this much money and decide as a couple that it was a far cry from what it should have been, as you always want to feel good about your splurges. However, in this case even that natural instinct cannot cover the truth that this was a tepid experience which we would not recommend be reproduced. read more

An all around 5-Star experience at La Toque. First of all, I appreciated it so much that La Toque was one of very few restaurants that were open immediately after the wildfire in Napa. The restaurant was practically empty when we got there and there were eventually a total of 5-6 tables of dinners at the end of the night. However, I actually enjoyed the quieter and romantic atmosphere at a top notch restaurant where you almost feel like you are having a private dinning event! Being a bit of a control freak, I loved that La Toque let you "design" your own 4-5 Course menu from a list of around 15 dishes. My bf and I both went with the 5-course option ($98) and ended up tasting 10 different dishes (so much cooler than a normal "Prix-fix" menu). I can say that I liked every single plate that was served and everything was presented beautifully (as you would expect from a Michelin star restaurant). A few stand outs are - -Angus Beef Tenderloin Carpaccio with smoky aioli and grilled king trumpets (the smokiness of sauce and the king trumpets made the dish so much better than your standard beef carpaccio!) -Alaskan Halibut with lunga celli (the Halibut is perfectly poached in coconut milk - so tender and flavorful and serviced with zucchini noodles. Light and delicious) - Dry aged duck breast with plum soubise (If I had to pick a "best" dish of the night, it would be the duck. I'm usually not a fan of duck breast, but I think the fact that it was dry aged completely changed the game. The duck gravy and plum sauce paired great with the meat!) -Prime New York strip loin with cheddar pearl tapioca (Yes, the steak was good, but I was more surprised at how good the tapioca pearls were - my only association with tapioca previously was pearls in bubble tea - and this dish just opened my eyes about tapioca used in savory way) -Cheese plate (Loved all 3 kinds of cheeses served as they were all soft cheeses which I generally prefer!) The waitress we had was super friendly and knowledgeable about the items on the menu. And there corkage fee of $25 was more than reasonably so we were able to enjoy a bottle of red that we purchased earlier! I would highly recommend La Toque for anyone who wants to have an amazing Michelin experience without having to spend $1000 for 2 (our bill came out to be $260 including tips which I thought was well worth it!). read more

Visited La Toque for a romantic dinner on Saturday night. While the food was inconsistent, I found the service and the space to be greater impediments to a truly memorable dinner. Quality: La Toque has the rare distinction of receiving a Michelin star every year since they began awarding them in Northern California. And while not every dish was perfect, overall I was happy with our selections. We started with the Angus Beef Tenderloin Carpaccio and the Atlantic Black Bass Pan Roasted. The carpaccio was one of my favorite dishes of the evening. I loved the smokiness added to the meat. The bass was disappointing, which was a theme with the fish. Our second round of dishes were the Seared Sea Scallop and the Wild Mushroom Agnolotti. I was not excited about the pasta, but the scallop was a fantastic bite. This was followed by a tasty Dry Aged Liberty Duck Breast and a wonderful Rabbit Loin Ballotine. When it came to our big dishes, both fell flat. I was not a fan of the Hawaiian Swordfish and I found the Prime New York Strip Loin to just be an okay steak. Luckily our two dessert items came quickly after and both were excellent. Quantity: The Five Course Tasting Menu, left me satisfied, but not stuffed. However, I think the Four Course Tasting Menu would have been plenty as well. Value: $130 for the Five Course Tasting Menu. Ambiance: La Toque is located in Napa within a Westin Hotel and I don't think they have done enough to separate the restaurant from the hotel. Too many elements of the design seem to come from the hotel environment, which does not allow diners to escape through their meal. There is this element of sterilization that seems to permeate from the restaurant. It felt almost like eating dinner at a furniture store. I just couldn't get or feel comfortable and it absolutely hurt my overall experience. Crowd: The restaurant was about half full, which seemed odd for a Saturday night. Perhaps a combination of the recent holiday and poor weather contributed to it. Service: Decent service, but not to the caliber I expected. Our party of 8 dined here to celebrate a 40th birthday. Aside from the service which was great, we left completely underwhelmed, hungry and disappointed. We opted for the tasting menu and not a single course was memorable. Everything was lack luster including the freshly shaved black truffle (how is that even possible?) I thought it was just me at first but after leaving the restaurant we all kind of turned to each other and said something along the lines of, "wow, that really wasn't good, was it?" For being a Michelin Star restaurant, i was a little disappointed. The service was great, but overall the food was not overly impressive. The Lobster Bisque with coconut milk sounded delicious and it was lackluster at best. The bisque was too overly buttery, but the lobster itself was delicious. Truffle pasta was a good choice, but comes with a hefty price tag. The veal chop for two, on the other hand, was exceptional. It had a wonderful taste filled with flavor and cooked to perfection. I'd be willing to give this restaurant another shot in the future due to the excellent service. I've been to La Toque 3x. The first 2 times was early on and i thought the food was very innovated and tasty. The dishes were creative. Recently went back and was sort of disappointed. While the service is still great the food now lacks any creativeness and flare. Seems like they just stick with simplicity. All the dishes we had were underwhelming to say the least. The add on loaded potato with the creme fraiche and caviar was lackluster. Nothing really stood out. The oily potato really took away from the caviar. The veal tenderloin tasted plain and just safe. the A4 was basically like the veal. I would have hoped there was more complexity to the dishes. Overall the food is still decent but if you are looking for more pizazz i would say go elsewhere. read more

This was the most disappointing over-priced dinner ever with a side of a possible COVID-19 infection. 1. For a restaurant of this stature you would imagine they would take their policies seriously. The table next to us housed a woman coughing her guts out right from when she sat at the table while our tasting menu was bring brought out. We asked for another table and were re-seated at a smaller very uncomfortable location. 2. This was supposed to be an enjoyably leisure dinner but it bordered on ignorance and absolutely terrible service! The server couldn't have cared less. And its convenient too because 20% gratuity is already added on to the check so there is absolutely no motivation for them to earn the gratuity. 3. The food quality was at best edible. Certainly nothing to write home about considering the Michelin star status. You would think the staff would be more apologetic but the complete indifference was more than apparent. I'm a BIG fan of Michelin star restaurants and La Toque has been on my list for a long time. Visiting during Covid wasn't ideal but the staff made it an exceptional experience... ...and while it was exceptional, it wasn't quite 5-star worthy. When I rank my favorite Michelin star restaurants in the Bay Area, there is some stiff competition. And while La Toque was excellent in many regards, it left a little room for improvement. The food was better than Gary Danko but not as good as Acquerello. The wine pairings were phenomenal and the sommelier was engaging, fun, and informative. The service was what you'd expect: exceptional. But the value wasn't there. I expect a hefty price tag at these restaurants but when comparing to others I've been to, it left something to be desired. You will go on wonderfully fun, fascinating, and sometimes shocking (in a good way) journey of food and wine that will tantalize your taste buds, leave you with a smile, and a full belly. But when you get the bill you'll question whether it was truly worth the price or not. Everytime I leave Gary Danko, I think to myself: I can't believe what a bargain this place is. When I leave Acquerello, I think: That was pricey but worth every penny. When I left La Toque I thought, That was incredible, but I definitely paid for it. That's why they get 4 but not 5 stars. I am a Chef Ken Frank fan. This was my third visit in last three years and I always go back with happy tummy and happy memories. I have earlier done the chefs tasting menu but this time we went for the vegetarian tasting menu- which was fantastic. The amuse bouche should tell you the classy, minimalistic, very French-y style Chef Frank has to offer. In fact, even when you walk in, the decor would tell you of that :) Pickled Carrots and Tempura Battered Tofu with Carrot and Ginger- the dish looked to beautiful to eat. It was beautiful in my mouth too- omg, i have never had better Tofu! Artichoke Soup with Black Winter Truffle- the soup was great, but the black winter truffle was magic, elevated the dish to amazingness. Roasted Delicata Squash, Cipolinni Onions, Apples and Beech Mushrooms and Pumpkin Tortellini with Braised Cardoon, Cacio e pepe was good too. Followed by Vegetarian "Cassoulet" with Flageolets, Roasted Sunchokes and Yellowfooted Chanterelles which requires a special mention- the taste and texture was mind blowing! For dessert, we got both, Crème Fraiche Sherbet with Goslings Black Seal Rum and Pineapple Brulée and blood orange mousse(? ) OMG The dessert was fantastic and our whole meal experience changed to even better after the dessert! The service is polite and nice, a tad slow, but great overall. Dont let the portion size fool you, we were very very completely stuffed at the end of the meal and took petit fours home lol! A 20% tip is already added to the check, so tips are not mandatory. Though I would have happily tipped 20% or more, I would still prefer it being a choice. My husband and I came here for our year anniversary and were blown away. One thing I will say is if you're doing the 5 or 9 course be prepared to be there for a few hours, but honestly for what you're paying and the experience it's so worth it to enjoy every moment. I did the 5 course with the wine pairing and my husband did the 9 course with the wine pairing. I can without a doubt say this was one of the best meals I've ever had. They start you off with a nice amuse bushe, and you end with some house made desserts from the chef as well! The food was delicious and the wine pairing was on point! My two favorites were the Eggplant ravioli and the NY strip. The bread they give you was also simple, yet delicious! My husband and I really enjoyed all of the wines as well, so much we had to go online to find several of the ones we were given. Highly recommend! read more

We were really looking forward to dining here considering the Michelin star status and planned to eat here on our short trip from the east coast. However, we were extremely disappointed. We both ordered the tasting. The first three courses were bland and the last few were over salted. The only exception being the oxtail agnolotti and the wagyu beef we ordered for an up charge. The service was inconsistent it almost seemed like they were short staffed. Although, I will say the majority of the staff was very kind when interacting with us. Extremely overpriced for the experience. Wish we would have went with a different restaurant in the area. I am writing this in the hope someone might not make the same mistake. read more

It has always been a bucket list item for me to dine at a Michelin star restaurant. La Toque was a sensational experience and it went above and beyond my expectations. My friend and I stayed in downtown napa so La Toque was a mere 10 minute walk for us. It's located in the Westin hotel so I'm guessing there is parking available but possibly for a cost. Overall the service was exceptional. All the hosts/hostesses were friendly and helpful and our waiters/waitresses were very knowledgeable and checked on us regularly. I never had a spill on my table longer than a minute and my water glass was always full and I was asked if I was enjoying my meal throughout the evening. The food was divine. My friend and I ended up choosing the 4 course tasting menu, costing 80 dollars and the wine pairing, which was an additional 50 dollars. Altogether my bill with gratuity was 170, which I feel to be reasonable for this type of restaurant. The chefs tasting menu was more expensive; 198 for several courses and 98 for the wine pairing menu. My favorite was the salmon and the duck breast. Amazingly flavorful and paired perfectly with the wine. I enjoyed every wine pairing they chose. The bacon wrapped tenderloin wasn't as juicy as I hoped but it was still good and I think it just paled in comparison after having 2 amazing courses to begin with. My almond tart for dessert was also incredible! Overall, I had an amazing dining experience, felt very pampered and enjoyed trying all the different food and wines as well. We had a very bad experience at La. toque tonight. The food was underwhelming from the start. But then we ordered the dry aged NY strip as the main entre and there was something very wrong. A bad taste. We complained and they grudgingly took one steak off the bill when we had ordered 3. When I insisted they take all the steaks off the bill they became rude. Even though they eventually took the steaks off the bill they never apologized for what was actually a ruined meal. All of us are feeling sick to our stomach. This is not fine dining. I've eaten at quite a number of Michelin-starred restaurants in my life, and this was the worst value-for-price of any (and perhaps of any restaurant I've ever been to). We did a tasting menu that amounted to $500 in total (for my birthday), but the quality of the food was mediocre, the environment was underwhelming, and the service was lagging (it took 20 minutes for anyone to return to the table and ask whether I was enjoying my drink, which I hadn't had more than a sip of because it was not good). I had not been to this restaurant before COVID, but from what I've gathered they have significantly increased the prices, and the quality of food and service seems to have gone in the wrong direction. I believe this restaurant needs to reevaluate their offering and price point, and it's quite frankly not right to their customers to offer this type of experience. I would strongly recommend as an alternative for diners the Auberge du Soleil, which I dined at the night after. It has stunning views, much higher quality food, and cost less than half the price to boot. read more

We told our server who was a delight and she came back out with the most ridiculous but gorgeous amount of caviar on top of the crispy potato cake that made us laugh all night long! So amazing! To add some more perspective to the reviews of the New Year's Eve dinner at La Toque, it's likely that many of us there on that evening had different overall experiences but with some similarities. My wife and I were very surprised at the slow pace of serving but interpreted it as a way for the restaurant to ensure that people enjoyed the evening prior to the midnight countdown. If that is true, it would have been nice for La Toque to inform us that it was going to be a 4+ hour dinner so we would be prepared. As it was, we told our server that we were not planning on staying and that they could increase the pace. It was like we waved a magic wand and dishes/courses came much quicker after that (perhaps just a touch too quick, in fact). Overall we liked the food, although the steep price tag certainly merited an even more elevated experience. Per the other reviews there were a couple of the 7 courses that didn't inspire us, but others were exceptional (the A4 Wagyu was incredibly good). We chose the wine pairing and thought that the sommelier did a nice job pairing some interesting, excellent wines with each course. The Viognier and Nebbiolo stood out. We really want to return to enjoy the restaurant's regular menu some time in the near future. I also would consider giving the NYE experience another go, but will be prepared to ask some questions upon booking. Although I completely understand some of the comments that have been made here, I really do appreciate the effort from the staff; they were pleasant and professional. Some mistakes may have been made, but overall they delivered a lot of courses to a full restaurant on an important evening. The SO took me on a weekend getaway to Napa for Valentine's Day weekend and booked a resy here - my first Michelin star experience! To start off, the service here is impeccable and super friendly. Everyone from the host, to the cook, to the servers, to the people who took plates away were all knowledgeable about the food! We each ordered the five course tasting menu (four savory dishes) + one dessert. We started off the meal with a complimentary palette cleaners, which were plated beautifully! The most memorable savory dishes were the beef tenderloin carpaccio, the bean tortellini with oyster mushroom, and the prime new york strip loin (which was my favorite dish of the new - a must get!). LOVE IT. Location (5/5): The restaurant locates inside the Westin Verasa Napa on Mickinstry Street. There are plenty of street parking and valet parking. Although the restaurant has its own entrance locating on aside from the lobby, you can enter the restaurant using the main lobby entrance. Services (5/5): Top-notch! Bae reserved this restaurant weeks ago for my birthday. I love how the host was so welcoming and friendly. From the server to the general manager, their operation was flawless. The food came out in a timely manner and with perfect temperatures. The best part was that they already calculated the tips in the final check. Additional tipping is optional and is not expected. We did it anyways! Kudos to La Toque team for making our dining experience at Napa so magical. Food (BROKE MY SCALE): We opted for the 4-course tasting menu with any 3 savory dishes plus dessert ($80/person). You can go for the wine pairing for 3 dishes with an additional $52/person, and dessert wine pairing for additional $14/ person. There were 2 things that I hate in life - beans and eggplant. Dining here officially changed my perspectives about these 2 ingredients for good. I love an excellent restaurant that inspires diners to change their existing palettes like La Toque. This is my fifth time coming to La Toque and it never disappoints! Let me first start with service....hands down best service in Napa! From the hostess to the servers and chiefs everyone is just so welcoming and friendly! All the servers are so knowledgeable about each course and also the different wines. Oh did I mentioned they have a huge wine list! They were kindly enough to surprise us and sat us inside the kitchen (chefs table) It was wonderful watching each dishes come out and guess what they were. The servers and chefs worked so quietly we never saw anyone panicking or dropping anything. It was a control, elegant, and harmonious chaos. Food...I always do the five course. Each course was flavorful and super fresh! There's not much not to like, maybe just wishing the portions was just a bit bigger. read more

La Toque was a great fine dining experience with my wife having a four course tasting menu with courses of her choice and with me choosing to have the nine course chef's tasting menu with the wine pairing. While the food was delicious, the wine is what I'll remember most about the meal. Richard is the wine director of the award winning wine list and we were privileged that he was in house for our Tuesday night dinner. Not only did I eagerly await each course of food, I anxiously waited to see what was next for each wine that was paired for each course. The pairing is an extra $95, but having Richard personally serve and describe each wine for each course was a treat, not only to taste, but to learn so much about each wine. My wife chose the four course meal over the five course and vegetable menu with the amount of food being just right for her. Her New York strip was two temperatures under from what she requested but she still was able to enjoy it the way it was presented. Each course for my meal, although no more than two bites each, was progressed nicely and each was presented beautifully. With the only flaw was the squab being on the dry side, my favorites were the rosti potato with Chinese Kaluga caviar and the sweet corn flan crepe, both were elevated to a higher level with a champagne and a Reisling respectively. Service from Victor was impeccable as he was especially helpful in finding a wine in the 2100+ collection that suited my finicky wife and also in selecting suitable courses for her. The meal from start to finish elapsed just over three hours and the wine courses combined with all the other drinking I had done earlier in the day, left me pretty much wasted and happy that our hotel was a five minute stroll away. Total for the meal with the 20% service charge tacked on was a hefty $529. Reservations were pretty easy to obtain the night previous and if you do go, be ready for the pricing. The food might not blow you away, but if you're a wine drinker, make sure you take advantage of their selection and the expertise of the wine team. read more

Let's just say the tasting menu is very irrelevant to "taste". For the price point, the chef stacked a big chunk portion of every dishes. Very plausible but it got messed pretty early on. It's never a good idea to gem some heavy butter to fish, period. It's quite lethal for all the following courses. This supposed to be a "play it safe". Oh well, maybe it isn't that easy. read more

It was our worst experience and we do not recommend this place to anyone. Pathetic service and they don't try to care to host or accommodate. We walked away with just having wine there, and had an awesome dinner elsewhere. read more

The food is ok. I don't think it deserves one star though. Pricy compared to the things they offered. I wouldn't recommend.
