La Toque deserve well more than the overall rating indicates. Every dining experience we've had here has been delightful. Most recently we wanted a lighter dinner and ordered à la carte. Our server Kyle kindly split our dishes without us even asking. The sommelier, Christina shows her knowledge and enthusiasm with each win's recommendation and description-and the wine list is extensive! The Neiman Ranch 'Iberian Style' long bone pork chop was perfectly prepared with nicely seasoned double fried potatoes. We paired it perfectly with a unique, special Pinot noir from Rutherford, El Molino. I did not find the meal expensive for what it is. And the service was warm, friendly, and attentive. read more

Pretentious, overpriced and disappointing food. I was staying at the Westin for a conference and a bunch of us decided to eat at La Toque. This was a Thursday night, the restaurant was mostly empty and it ended up being a table of 9 instead of 6. They told us that any party greater than 8 had to all order their tasting menu at $225 per head, which we were not interested in. Since most of us were strangers to each other we said, no problem, we can just split into 2 groups. To our astonishment, they actually told us we could not split our group since we showed up together. We were going to leave, but the waitress went to ask, and then they allowed us to stay but made us sit at 2 different tables and made the other group sit far away so we wouldn't fraternize with one another. For the food, I ordered the tagliatelle that was suppose to have beef cooked in a red wine reduction. All I could taste was the wine reduction, no hint of beef, no visible pieces of meat for a dish that cost over $40. The lady next to me had the mezzaluna pasta, which she was very disappointed in as well. read more

But a few things kept this Valentine's dinner from landing the way it should. First, the setting. La Toque sits inside the Westin, and the room reads more "hotel breakfast buffet" than "romantic evening out." If you're expecting the kind of intimate, candlelit atmosphere that suits a Valentine's reservation, temper your expectations before you arrive. Parking was also a small surprise, valet is available as part of the hotel. You'll have , but it's not obvious, and we ended up parking across the street at the Napa Wine Train lot. The food was a mixed bag: - *The Dungeness crab en papillote* had real promise but arrived with large, unpleasant shell fragments, the kind of thing that turns a luxurious dish into a careful excavation. - *The Dover sole* is served on the bone, a traditional preparation that will genuinely put most diners off; a simple fillet option would go a long way. - *The ravioli* was actually quite good on its own, but it came buried under an enormous pile of truffle that added nothing to the dish, you could push it entirely to the side and not miss it. Let the pasta speak for itself. - *The beef wellington* was not bad, solid and satisfying, though noticeably salty. As an Australian, I'm not mad about that, but worth flagging if you're sensitive to salty things. - *The pavlova*, though, was the biggest disappointment of the night. The meringue shell was hard, but the inside had collapsed into something dense and chewy, not the light, crisp-then-marshmallow texture that makes a pavlova worth ordering. For an Australian, a bad pavlova is cause for national outcry. For any fine dining restaurant, the execution needs to be tighter. Our waiter, Kyle, was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and very attentive throughout the evening. We live in Sonoma County, so we especially enjoyed our conversation about local gems and smaller boutique wineries that many people may not know about or think to ask for. It was such a fun and personal touch to the experience! The food was absolutely delicious, and everything was beautifully prepared and presented. We loved the atmosphere and ambiance--it had a very Napa-like feel, with a wonderful winery-inspired elegance. We thoroughly enjoyed our entire meal, from the appetizers all the way through dessert, and we will definitely be returning. Norma and Jason were considerate, attentive and supportive. I ordered the fresh forward salad, which was fine. For my entree, I ordered braised beef gluten free. It was delicious. For dessert, I ordered the sans rival, which was the main reason I wanted to try the restaurant-- sans rival is a Filipino dessert. We left La Toque wondering what the bloom just happened. This was supposed to be our anniversary dinner and the perfect way to end an otherwise amazing trip. Unfortunately, it was not what we expected. We opted for the tasting menu and found it to be overpriced for what was served to us. Course after course arrived looking very similar, mostly shades of brown and green, and lacked the flavour and creativity we were expecting. Nothing really stood out. To be fair, the wine list was impressive and the sommelier was knowledgeable and helpful. The water lady was good. The ice cream was also enjoyable, but not enough to elevate the overall experience. The ambiance missed the mark for us. We were expecting something elegant, romantic, and memorable. Instead, the dining room felt more like a buffet than a Michelin-starred restaurant. The rock and roll music was so loud that it made conversation difficult. We asked if it could be turned down and it was, but once most of the guests had left, the volume was turned right back up. What disappointed us most was the service. No one ever asked how we were enjoying our meal throughout the evening. Our waiter showed very little warmth or personality and made us feel more like an inconvenience than high paying guests. The evening ended on a particularly strange note. When the bill arrived, we asked for a pen so we could sign it. Instead of simply providing one, the waiter became visibly upset and asked how he was supposed to know we were not staying at the hotel before storming away from the table. We were genuinely shocked by the interaction. my husband told him how disappointed we were and he stormed off again. The manager came by and we asked if the owner was available, hoping to share our concerns, but were told he was attending a staff member's wedding. She apologized and offered $50 off our bill. Every restaurant can have an off night, but for a Michelin-starred restaurant, this experience fell far below expectations. I'll say Latoque was 'OK' sortof. But the reality is I walked away from courses and wine pours and no one seemed to care. Although when they asked how things were and I said I was shoked that the Chesapeake Bay Striped Bass wasn't seaasoned and I was left to scrape off the skin & dark meat. The person who asked how things were going kind of put his nose up and offered me octopus. No, if I'm not happy with the striped bass (a simple thing to cook) I'm not going to say yes to octopus. So we went on with the chef course and wine pairing (which I also walked away from some wine too). I will say, the front of the house staff tried, the unfortunate thing is the back of the house staff didn't try. I give latoque 2 stars. It wasn't for me, maybe it's for you. I just know I wont go back and they didn't try to make me go back even though I was honest it just isn't worth a Michelin star in my opnion. Please know I let them know I wasn't happy and I still paid full price and didn't ask for a discount. I wanted to like this spot, I just didn't. I'm hoping I'm not sick from how raw the lamb chop was tonight. Also, some super weird "yes chef" type chanting was happening from the kitchen. I have been looking forward to going to this restaurant with the world renowned Chef Ken Frank located at the Westin in downtown Napa. The restaurant is open, sterile and has some warmth with the fireplace and a row of booths on opposite sides of the restaurant. We had the 3 course tasting menu and dessert paired with wine. The theme was Lyonnaise , first course was a soft cheese with toasted bread, second course was lardons and frisée salad, third course pistachio sausage served with a dollop of mashed potatoes and cooked carrots. The dessert "Il Flottante" a cream with meringue floating on top with a drizzle of Carmel. Like most high-end dining you never know what you're going to get ( like the French Laundry and other Michelin star restaurants ) it may be something that you love or it may be something that you enjoy but wouldn't order again. The service was exceptional, the wine pairing was excellent and the food was unique and an epicurean experience. We thoroughly enjoyed meeting the renown Ken Frank. Seventeen years ago Tracie and I walked out of La Toque and looked at each other and said, that was the best meal we have ever had. Last night, after thousands of meals across the world, we said it again. La Toque is still the standard. From the moment we sat down, Kyle, Christine, and Roma set the tone. Polished without pretense, confident without ego. As a chef owner, I watch everything. Timing, choreography, glassware, the subtle language between kitchen and floor. It was seamless. There is a calm precision in that dining room that tells you leadership runs deep. The tasting menu is a masterclass in restraint and technique. The Dungeness crab baked en papillote was a study in aromatic control. Cooking in parchment traps volatile compounds, forcing the aromatics to circulate and reabsorb. When opened, the perfume was immediate and focused. The crab remained pristine, sweet, and gently structured, amplified by the Asian fines herbes and winter vegetables, "some pickled, some not." That contrast of acidity and freshness against pure crab sweetness was surgical. The Dover sole with chermoula butter was textbook. Perfectly broiled, flesh just yielding, never dry. The chermoula was balanced, herbal brightness layered over classic French execution. Technique meeting clarity. The stinging nettle berlingots with duck confit and black truffle showed real confidence. Pasta delicate, filling rich but not heavy, the nettle providing that iron green minerality. Shaved truffle used as seasoning, not decoration. That is discipline. The dry aged Liberty duck breast was cooked exactly as it should be, skin rendered, flesh rosy, resting evident in the even gradient. Paired with celeriac mousseline and pear preparations that played acid against fat, texture against silk. This is where great kitchens separate themselves, they understand how to build tension on the plate. We added the A5 wagyu. Absolute perfection. No excess, no theatrics. Just heat control and respect for the product. Rendered fat, clean sear, interior supple. It is very easy to ruin A5. They did not. We also added caviar, served with crème and a crisp potato element reminiscent of a refined latke. Temperature, salinity, crunch, fat. It hit every register. Indulgent, yes, but composed. Even the cheese course, Brillat Savarin ripened with fresh black truffle and crisp crumpets, was handled with intention. That is a kitchen that understands timing and maturation. Dessert, Meyer lemon chibouste with spelt shortbread and chamomile honey ice cream, was bright, lifted, not overly sweet. Structure in the chibouste was flawless. A clean finish to a complex meal. And the wine pairings. Thoughtful, confident, perfectly paced. Each glass elevated the dish without overwhelming it. That Mosel Riesling with the crab, the Barolo with the berlingots, the Pinot with duck. Precision. What makes La Toque exceptional is not just the food. It is the alignment. Kitchen, service, wine, pacing, hospitality. There is a quiet mastery that comes from decades of discipline and standards that have never slipped. Plates were flavorful, but the dark brown and grey plating and lack of anything bright or fresh. Chef was friendly, but couldn't live up to the $1,000 per couple bill! Not even close to French Laundry or even some of the meals we have had at B Cellars and David Estates, which are wineries. Everything could have been better. We checked into the Westin in Napa for a one night get-a-way. We noticed the restaurant which claimed to be a Michelin stared restaurant was attached, so we changed our other reservation to eat there. Mistake number one. Christiana was lovely and though we felt underdressed she said it was fine. Later we discovered no was "dressed". It's so sad to see people in t-shirts spending $200+ per person for dinner. We are not at the beach. We brought a Nickel & Nickel $200 bottle of wine, but to save another $50 dollar corkage fee we bought a $165 bottle of Oregon Pinot Noir which was ok, but not spectacular. I'd rather have a $20 Bogle that tastes just as good! The pre dinner taster was good and served in a lovely manner. It took a while to get our wine. The arugula and etc salad was light and tasty, but nothing special. My husband's beef and pasta dinner with fried onions on top was tasty, but there was very little beef for the price. My cioppino was not good. There was not much fish, a lot of croutons (who puts those in this), no squid, canned mussels, no shrimp or crab and a lot of pasta circles. I ordered cioppino not pasta. I told our rather pompous waiter it was really bad. Since my husband told him it was my birthday he brought out a beautiful plate with tiny dark chocolate desserts right after I told him I do not like dark chocolate. Too funny. I told the waiter I thought the cioppino was terrible. We were still charged. I'm so sorry he has the same name as my son as he was pompous beyond belief. By the second course I lost my appetite from worrying we would be kicked out. I am even more disappointed because I had been asking my husband to bring me here for months, and this was how it turned out. They seem to cater more to older people who do not have kids and were very rude to families. The food was not good either. I'm quite surprised by the mixed reviews of this place because I had a fabulous dining experience this second time around! Mind you, I'm not the most experienced Michelin star connoisseur, so my experience may be different from yours. I made my reservations online, and we found parking on the street pretty easily. We were thankfully on time since our hotel was less than 15 minutes away. I was here three years ago, and there are a few minor changes to the restaurant, but it remained pretty much the same. The decor is classic with a dark ambiance in the main dining area. They also have a well lit porch area, which gave that area a more lively feel. Cocktails: Porn star martini. This was a nice light drink. I enjoyed the meld of vanilla and passionfruit. It comes with a small glass of Prosecco, which was an interesting pairing. Personally, I don't think the drinks go well together, but I won't say no to another drink! Chef's Tasting Menu: This will make you full! I enjoyed all of the dishes! My favorites - Crab in the broth, scallops, oxtail, and deer! Now let me say, I'm not a big fan of game meat because I don't like the aftertaste and texture. However, the deer was seared so perfectly with nary a hint of gaminness to it! And the oxtail was smooth like butter! To tell you the truth, I was so full after the main entree, it was hard to enjoy the next two courses! But of course, the rum ice cream was so good! It wasn't alcohol forward. You also receive a box of chocolates to go. I was pleased to see that they had a pumpkin chocolate. My closest friends know that I love pumpkin and this was a nice treat to have at home. The pacing between dishes was on point, with even the executive chef and owner delivering some of the dishes. We chatted with him for a bit, and he was a friendly guy. we ate at la toque in 2002 and it was fabulous! so we returned to the new location in westin hotel and i feel it's now a restaurant relying on the one michelin star to bring in business! how wrong i was . the ambiance is no better than an all you can eat type restaurant and the cuisine has really disappointed. we had a pretentious over bearing condescending server who immediately turned us off . i couldn't communicate with my spouse the whole night while we endured jimmy hendrix from the kitchen. we ordered a bottle of wine and no one poured our wine because a lot of the staff left when the other tables emptied out ! not something expect when you have a star! none of the dishes exploded with flavor except for the dessert!! rarely do i write a review this negative but if your spending over 800 you deserve the best .....ps when a restaurant charges you 20 percent tip there's no incentive to give good service and this was the case with our server ! read more

The hostess was mildly annoyed we were 15 minutes late and sneered when she said "she would juggle some tables to get us in." The place was no more than half full the entire time. They seated us next to the wine station which meant there was a constant flow of waiters coming and going past our table. A bit of a buzz kill. The food was mostly excellent. Caviar and crunchy potato appetizer - if you can afford it - get it. I would go back for this dish alone. The carpaccio was one of the better ones I had. The mushrooms in the middle were a little off and I question their inclusion, at least in the way they were prepared. But the crunchy bits of potato made up for it. The duck was good but not great. It was not served very hot, but had excellent smoke taste. My wife's pasta dish was fresh and tasty. The wine list was extensive and expensive. I give it a 4 instead of 5 because I generally dock very high end & formal dining establishments down a notch for those 2 criteria. This restaurant is located in the Westin and if you are looking for a fine dining experience in Napa this is a good choice for you. We ended up doing the chefs tasting menu and got to try: * amouse bouche - Parmesan creme fraiche dish, this was a light airy cheesy dish that we started off with which was delicious and unique * amouse bouche - fried scallop - this was lightly breaded and crispy and had lots of flavor when it hit the mouth * crispy potato with creme fraiche and caviar - this was my first time trying caviar and if I'm being honest I wasn't blown away. The flavor is unique though and the crispy crunchy texture with the caviar went well together * lobster soup - this was refreshing and delicious, there was big chunks of lobster in it and came with fresh veggies *halibut with potato scale - this was delicious and fresh, but I loves the crispy potato skin on top which added a nice flavor along with the sauce * duck confit and breast ravioli - this came with 3 pieces with some crispy veggies, the boyfriend got it with the truffles which I tried but wasn't particularly a fan of the truffle flavor * roasted eye of beef rib - this was very yummy and came with potatoes and spinach - everything was well prepared and the boy liked this a lot *wagyu beef with veggies - the boy got this dish and I actually really liked it - the vegetables were all unique and flavorful while wagyu was a rich flavor with every bite. * raclette - this was an okay dish but was a boiled potato with cheese on top with a side of pickles - a little too heavy for me * hazelnut crunch layer cake with ice cream - this dessert was delicious and flavorful, it reminded me of a ferrero rocher actually and was yummy Once we were done they gave us brownie bites and a dessert box to take home along with the menu which was really nice! 4/23/22 I came here with my boyfriend and his parents for dinner. The reservation was set for 5:45pm. The Michelin star restaurant was not busy at all. We were seated at a round booth table which was not as comfortable as it looked. You had to either sit really close to reach the table but if you needed back support you had to sit really far back...Anyway, our waitress, Maria, brought out menus and an ipad which had a very extensive drink menu. As we were looking over the menus, Maria explained to us that the whole table had to either ala carte or all amuse bouche. After we had decided on what to get, the menus were taken away and water and warms towels were brought out for us. Here's what we got: 1. Poached halibut (his) 2. Fazzoletti seta (mine) 3.Grapefruit leche de tigre (mine) 4. Angus Beef Carpaccio (his) We all got a Japanese mushroom starter. It was like a small teacup of mushroom soup and tasted better than it looked; it tasted like the essence of the mushroom, very pure. The carpaccio was pretty dry in my opinion. It tasted okay overall, but I was expecting something more wet like the Vietnamese style. The grapefruit leche de tigre was not what I expected; I was hoping for something more than just a small strip of fish. The acidity of the grapefruit complemented the fish well but still....The fazzoletti seta was probably the best tasting dish but the portion was super tiny...but I guess that's how it is at all Michelin star restaurants? My boyfriend said that the halibut was good too, but again, so small. For dessert, I got a chocolate concorde and it was too sweet for me. Overall, I was not impressed. This was my first time at a Michelin star restaurant and there was no wow factor for me from any of the dishes. A Delicious Meal with a Challenging Experience My wife and I dined at La Toque in Napa tonight, and we have mixed feelings about our experience. Let me start with the positives--the food was absolutely incredible. Every bite was a delight, from the amazing bread and imported Normandy butter to the perfectly cooked duck breast and the pasta with duck. The flavors and preparation were top-notch, as one would expect from a Michelin-starred restaurant. Our server deserves special mention--he was gracious, accommodating, and understanding of our situation. Traveling with a four-month-old baby is always challenging, and while we understood the potential difficulties, he went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. However, our overall experience was marred by a few key interactions. Upon arrival, we didn't have a reservation, and while we appreciated being accommodated, the process of being asked to step aside to review the menu and ensure we were comfortable with the offerings and pricing felt awkward and unwelcoming. It's understandable to manage expectations, but the approach could have been more tactful. The main issue arose when our baby became fussy shortly after we ordered drinks. Not wanting to disturb other diners, my wife left back to our room with the baby. I asked if we could order our food to-go and was told this wasn't an option because the dishes wouldn't plate well, and that we'd need to order, have the food plated for dine-in, and then pack it up ourselves. While we respect the restaurant's commitment to presentation, this policy felt rigid and unaccommodating given our circumstances. We did raise our concerns with Operations Manager Megan, who only seemed to place blame on the waiter and insisted that the chef does not allow to go options. Her approach lacked the empathy and flexibility we hoped for, which was disappointing in such a high-caliber dining establishment. To be clear, this isn't a reflection on our server--he truly did his best and showed great understanding. Unfortunately, the interactions with management, especially Megan, left us with a sour impression. We understand dining out with a baby isn't ideal (which is why we chose to dine at our hotel), but as paying patrons who already ordered drinks, we had hoped for a bit more understanding or flexibility. It's a shame because the food and ambiance were spectacular, but the overall experience didn't reflect the level of care and hospitality we'd expect from La Toque. read more

Tried someplace new (for us) and boy, this restaurant did not disappoint. From the moment we arrived Jacob and Christiana were very accommodating and switched our table for one with risers so my wheelchair user husband can be more comfortable. We tried both the chef's and vegetable tasting menus. Both were absolutely excellent! The wagyu beef addition and grilled cheese with black truffle were simply divine. Husband paired wine with his dishes and it was like touring vineyards in Europe. He was delighted with the wine choices from France, Portugal, Switzerland, Hungary, Germany, and of course, Napa. Jacob is a very knowledgeable sommelier! Service was stellar! Sam, Swalio (sp?), the executive sous chef (his name escapes me) were all very attentive to our needs. Jason, though, is the absolute cherry on top - he kept us in stitches and entertained for almost three hours. It was an epic dinner celebrating our 37th wedding anniversary. I really wanted to like it. I really did. Service was excellent. Food was sub par. I'm almost positive it's not the same chef. But still has the Michelin star. All i remember was my ink pasta was beyond salty, same as few of the vegetables dishes. Food is not worth the money. Service is though! read more

Incredible dining experience at La Toque! Came here last Thursday with my husband and another couple. We all opted for the chef's tasting menu at $225 pp. We decided not to do the wine pairing and ordered cocktails instead. Food was incredible. We were all blown away by the depth of flavor in every dish. I highly recommend the tasting menu if it's within your budget. Service was excellent! Our waiter and the staff were always attentive. Not once did I have an empty glass of water. Highly recommend adding this restaurant to your list if in Napa. read more

Good: restaurant served us two complimentary desserts that greeted us a "happy monthsary" and a "happy birthday" to my husband......the ambiance was nice and romantic. Bad: fish was not served warm and crispy......I wasn't sure what to make of it, but I did not really enjoy it considering I've had better experience eating cheap crispy fried fish at home (tilapia) It wasn't until my husband mentioned he did not like this experience that I realize he's right......the food was not a wow experience (like we had in another venue)......the fish could've been better (like served warm and crispy). It was not worth spending over $1,000 for his birthday dinner.......and hubby said we will not be returning. read more

This Michelin star restaurant was everything you'd imagine and it still managed to exceed our expectations. The food was a work of art and the taste of each course was magnificent. We were celebrating our 47th wedding anniversary and every staff person went out of their way offering sincere compliments and celebrated with us. This was a first class experience and the atmosphere was outstanding. It was readily apparent that every detail was meticulously attended to with the objective of having optimal customer satisfaction. This was probably the best dining experience I've had in my 71 years. I intend to return at my earliest opportunity. La Toque is a Michelin Star contemporary restaurant that is located at the Westin Verasa Hotel in Napa. This is the type of restaurant that is for a special occasion or your splurge night. The most difficult part of dining here is that you have to decide on what menu you want to order from when you make your reservation (a la carte or fixed price) The night I was here I picked a la carte but also was offered a fix priced menu and also a vegetarian tasting menu.. Everything we tried was high quality, detailed, and delicious. We enjoyed the hamachi, the agnolotti, the red snapper, the duck breast, and the chocolate hazelnut dacquoise with amaretto ice cream. Service was top notch. The music was unusually great. The only thing that I didn't care for was the fake flower in a vase on my table. Leaving they gave each of us a little box of assorted hand made sweets. read more

Nice restaurant and wonderful dining experience. There is no self parking, but there's free valet parking. We had a nice table with a view into the kitchen and can see the cleanliness of the kitchen and their efficiency in putting the food out, but we also had a clear view into the kitchen with staff in the kitchen area with untied long hair and without a hairnet. The Tasting Menu was very good and the flavor and freshness hit all the marks. If I had to rank the food, my lease favorite was the fish follow by the cheese plate (nothing wrong with the cheese, just not a cheesy person). Fish has good flavor, but the texture was a bit rough. Staff and service here was excellent, and made our anniversary special. And, kudos to the Sommelier who took his time to explain the different wine pairing, taste and why it was selected to pair with the dish. read more

Went here for Sunday dinner with my wife to celebrate our anniversary. Great service from beginning to end, from host/hostess to wait staff, sommelier and everyone in between. We chose the a la carte option since there were multiple entrees from that menu that we were interested in The truffle sand which was tasty but I think the truffle gets lost when it's not as a topping. The carpaccio was super thin, but the crispy mushrooms were the star, even with the added truffles (extra). I would definitely get the rosti potato again. Crispy with some crème fresh and topped with caviar. Delicious. The agnolotti was delicious, the creams and mushrooms and truffles worked very well. The staff split the item onto two dishes without us needing to ask which was a plus. We had three entrees, the sea bass, the duck and the a4 wagyu. Sea bass and a very light and crispy skin with t Jerry tomatoes that my life loved. The duck had a meaty texture but was accompanied with lots of different side items (confit, shaved potatoe, chicken liver mouse) that had complimentary textures that went well. The a4 wagyu was just delicious, fatty but so unoriginal with that Bernadine sauce. Great experience and really liked the a la carte flexibility. read more
