I've just moved to harbor Island so La Val's pizza was the only easy pizza to get. BBQ chicken it was and my new fav. New York crust, someone said too much bacon - that's impossible. Even a pig doesn't have too much bacon. Too much money, too much good luck, too much good weather, too much chocolate.... I think not. You can't taste the mushrooms though but you can taste the chicken and BBQ sauce. and the bacon. The question is can I order a different pizza next time. I don't know why people don't like La Val's in general. They offer you the things you normally want when you crave pizza. A dark, sometimes dirty seating, tv, beer, and a salad bar. This La Val's is no exception. Even though this La Val's is nestled in the Landing area of Bay Farm, you just get the feeling that after you've eaten inside, you need to take a shower. I think the pizza is fine. The beer...well I don't know if I've had their beer. They do have fountain pop though. The TV is a projector. Not a huge fan, but it's gigantic, so that's enough for me. And the salad bar. Well, I said that it was available, but I never want salad when I eat pizza. Especially from an open bar. Anyway, to each his own. I choose this place. read more

I'm a bit perplexed to read how many people think this is great pizza. Yes, I understand how this place is a favorite hangout for people in Bay Farm, but that's because it's the only one in this part of town, and it's all they've known for years and years. But c'mon people, you gotta get outta Bay Farm every once in a while and discover that there's pizza out there that's so much better than this. Okay, I've been going to LaVals since I was in the 4th grade. Pizza does not get any better than this, seriously. Its the only place I know of that serves a BBQ sauce instead of tomato sauce pizza with pepperoni. Even when I moved out of Alameda I'd make a trip once and while down to "the island" to get a pizza. I've gotten a few friends hook on the place now they drive the distance just to get a pie.Trust, once you try it you'll never go back to another pizza place again. The best pizza in Alameda. Yes, the crust is different than NY pizza or Zach's, but the toppings are fresh and generous. Been going here since they first opened in the 80's. Used to stop by after elementary school to play video games. Place hasn't really changed in the last 20+ years. Still great pizza and other dishes and a great variety of beers and wine. Always 15 mins for a pickup. Upstairs is great for Monday Night Football and hanging out after softball. Tons of celebrities and athletes photos shower the wall. read more

I love their personal pizza, it's fresh made to order and it's so inexpensive. Fast service, especially for working people that has to get back to work within an hour. They have your personal pizza ready within 10 minutes. Also, your personal pizza comes with a trip to the salad bar. This is honestly the worst pizza place I've been to in a long time . I ordered the combination pizza minus the beef, with the sun dried tomato sauce. The sauce was tasteless tasted nothing like sun-dried tomatoes more like tomato paste . The crust wasn't good at all it had Burnt areas and soggy areas . Just overall terrible! The salad bar looked gross , the sneeze guard had finger prints all over it and the salad fixings looked like they hadn't been refreshed all day . The staff was friendly yet didn't seem to care much about their appearance or the appearance of the restaurant. For example we sat next to three dirty tables the entire time we were there . And the decor is stuck in the 80's , the carpet looks like it's been there since then as well. Bottom line I should have gone to the Star to hit my pizza crave . My wife eats lunch at LaVal's from time-to-time and says the food is okay. So we tried their delivered pizza -- sadly, it was awful. It was warm at best, the crust was doughy and tasted stale, and there should have been more sauce, the toppings were okay and plentiful. Meh. You will not get any enthusiasm from the employees here. I notice that usually one employee is making pizza while the others are chit chatting, eating, or laying their head down on the counter. The pizza could use a couple more minutes in the oven. The sausage and chicken taste like it's not even seasoned at all. Prices are cheap and you get what you pay for. This was my place as a kid growing up on Bay Farm. Their pizza sanwiches were the bomb. Yes, it's pricey, but with pizza you really do get hwat you pay for and unless you hit up a take and bake place your cheap pizza will only dissapoint. The LaVals special is also amazing with shrimp and feta added to the mix. read more

Went here with my boyfriend to have dinner. I ordered their spaghetti and my boyfriend had their BBQ pizza. I ended up eating my bf's order! Their pizza is amazingly delicious!!! I love the light crunch for every bite and they load it with toppings so definitely worth the price! I will definitely go back here again. Im giving it a 4 tho cuz their spaghetti is watered down. I've tried all of the pizza places in Alameda and we keep going back to La Val's for the light thin crust and their tasty pizza. They use just the right amount of tomato sauce and produce a non-greasy perfectly baked pie with fresh toppings. I love the salad bar when we eat in and the buffalo wings are good. They also have Internet coupons for delivery on their website. Long live small proprietors and family businesses!
