I'm a fan of authentic Mexican, particularly the street food I enjoyed back in ... well, a long time ago ... when I spent a summer working at the Internado Infantil Guadalupano orphanage in Mexico City. Beef or sheep seasoned liberally but simply, green onions, all grilled with a really runny guacamole and hot sauce. La Vecindad did not disappoint. Great old-style Mexican decor, all Mexican beers, and AMAZING salsa to go with meh chips. I ordered the enchiladas con pollo y mole poblano. It was the BEST mole I've had in the US, hands-down. Nice refried beans - they use lard, so YUM!. The rice is not a mix - they spice it themselves. Also yum! Mi hermano y cuñada had burritos and flank steak with green onions. Oh, my! We all tasted each other's dishes and, again, YUM! They had someone taking pics and offering printed photo of your dinner party and a Mariachi band. It was Mexico City all over again. So nice! We flipped a coin to see who was going to pay for dinner. I lost. So ask me why I'm not 4 stars? No, really, go ahead and ask. Three dinners and six beer = $170 with tip. See why 4 stars? Ordered birria plate, it doesn't come with sides (as normally most places serve with rice & a salsa on the side). Staff was so accommodating and engaging, offering suggestions and were welcoming to my then 18m old toddler. The start of the visit was questionable, it took a while to get seated and get a high chair. the waitress seemed a little overwhelmed because they were pretty busy but seems like everyone regained their footing and the food was pretty darn good. Aside from the aguas frescas and the complimentary salsa, the food was not worth the drive. All in all, I would not recommend, mainly because of the service as some of the staff was borderline rude. It came with rice and fries, this was $20. I make better milanesa tbh so not impressed . My mom ordered enchiladas suizas and we have had those at other places and these were so bad. The sauce was lacking flavor it was so bland. The waiter was a very short with his answers when we asked about certain dishes, and he was rushing through our order.
