My partner and I came to the Toasted Yolk at around 11:30am on a Tuesday. There were some other people there, but it certainly wasn't busy, so we considered ourselves lucky to get seated immediately at a well-reviewed brunch place. The decor is very cute, the servers seemed friendly, and the general vibe is just nice, so we were looking forward to our food. When we were ready, our server took our order without writing anything down which made me briefly concerned, but I figured she just had a good memory. To drink my partner got black coffee, which was fine, and I got a cold brew latte, which was very good, though I thought it was odd that the only milk options were whole milk and almond milk. But, no matter, I like whole milk. For food, my partner ordered the biscuits and gravy with eggs, and a side of what they call junkyard hashbrown casserole, which is their regular hashbrown casserole with chili, cheese, jalapenos, and onions. I ordered the Yolk Lover's breakfast, which was 2 eggs, bacon, and a slice of the hashbrown casserole. I added two more eggs and asked to upgrade my hashbrowns to the junkyard style, with no jalapenos. The first thing that worried me was after about twenty minutes, the server returned to confirm that I had wanted my eggs over medium, which I hadn't. I had asked for sunny side up. I told her, and she disappeared into the back. As I was visiting my partner from another state and we were happy to be spending time together, an hour had passed before I realized the food hadn't come out. We also hadn't seen our server in that time, and I looked around for her but she was nowhere to be found. After another twenty minutes, she came out with our food, and when setting down the plates said "I know it looks like it's old, but it's not, it was just sitting there" which was really confusing and didn't give me a lot of confidence in our food. My eggs were cooked perfectly. The yolks were fully runny while the whites were completely cooked. The bacon was also cooked well, crispy but not too crispy. The problem was that everything on the plate was cold, the eggs were completely unseasoned, and instead of the junkyard casserole, I got regular hashbrown casserole. The hashbrown casserole was also unseasoned, leaving me to wonder if the chef actually had access to a salt shaker in the kitchen. Meanwhile, my partner's biscuits and gravy were ice cold and so hard that he couldn't cut through the bottom half of the biscuit. His hashbrown casserole was covered in cheese, jalapenos, and onions, but no chili, as it instead had salsa, which wasn't even on the description for the food. We'd had a long night though, so we ate what we could, and if my partner hadn't been sick for the rest of the day I would have given the Toasted Yolk two stars for at least knowing how to properly cook eggs and bacon. As it stands, he was extremely ill not hours after leaving the restaurant. Also, the floors of the lady's room, including inside the stall itself, were extremely sticky. The slow service coupled with food that was cold and caused my partner to have stomach issues until the next morning really makes me wonder why this place has such good reviews. Such a disappointing experience. This place has a great ambience/menu at first glance but our experience was less than good. Our server acted like she couldn't be bothered with us and was annoyed when we asked questions. The latte I ordered had no milk and was incorrect after I already spoke with her about it. The shrimp and grits soaked complete an entire layer of oil, was completely over salted and was inedible. My husband's eggs benedict was completely overcooked (no running yolk etc). I would give our experience zero stars if possible. We will not be back, sad because this looks like such a cute brunch spot. read more

The Toasted Yolk Cafe is a franchise owned breakfast place fairly new to the SA area with the 1604/281 being the 2nd one opened in town. It is clean and has a young modern vibe feel to it and service was on point. I went with the Yolk lovers which included eggs, meat, hash brown casserole, and chose to upgrade the french toast to the cinnamon roll toast. Wifey cloned my meal, but with the normal french toast. Overall, It might be a bit fufu for some but all yoking aside, it was enjoyable, with the hash brown casserole with cheese and the upgraded french toast being the clear winners. read more

I'll start off by saying I'm on the fence about this place. They've barely been open a few weeks, which might explain my complaints. On the bright side they had lots of open tables and I like the vibrant colors inside. My husband ordered the brisket tacos and I had the double decker omelette. He seemed pleased with his plate. I didn't think mine was anything out of the ordinary. Some of the sausage chunks were cut a little too big. I also ordered a hazelnut flavored latte which was pretty bad. I mentioned to the waitress that it had a weird off putting taste. She just said 'oh sorry about that' and walked away... not the response I expected. We also had to flag her down to ask for to-go boxes and the check. Keep in mind there were only a handful of tables there. I think they might need a bit more training to check in on tables after dropping off food and paying attention if people are visibly looking around to flag you down. I'll give them a few months to hopefully get everything ironed out and will return to try something else. Will definitely skip their coffee though. read more

My mom wanted to try this place out so we stopped in for breakfast. When you walk-in you're promptly greeted by staff. It was pretty quiet when we came in and were immediately seated. The place itself is nice and clean. It has a clean and bright feel to it. My mom and I ordered the cali fresh omelette. I order mines with plain egg white and my mom ordered the original. We waited an entire hour to be seated, and when it was finally our turn, the hostess told us it would be approximately another hour before we could get our food. If the restaurant already knew there was such a significant kitchen delay, we should have been informed before waiting an hour to be seated. We could have made an informed decision about whether to stay or go somewhere else. The portions were also extremely large for each of the meals. The Ruben was great aside from the bread being a bit soggy as soon as it may it to the table & we really enjoyed the Greek salad. Aside from this we ordered the west coast Arnold (asked for the cholula ranch on the side) + the hashbrown casserole. The "hostess" said it would be a 40 minute wait. No one else was there waiting. I reminded her that we were already on the waitlist & had been there for 30 minutes already. There was a table open. I was asking kindly about it. Her demeanor & attitude were just so careless. I get that it's busy. I get that it's a holiday, but she was rude and acted like she didn't care. I wasn't expecting anything special, but kindness goes a long way, and it was severely lacking. It's a shame because we were so excited to have a Toasted Yolk after visiting their College Station location a few times with amazing service, despite being crazy busy. Not a lot of traditional diners left, but this is pretty close, which is a good thing. I am a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to breakfast, so I got the two egg breakfast deluxe. I particularly like the hash brown casserole. The bacon was perhaps a little crisp this time around, but in general, they do a very good job with breakfast. My server today, Natalia, was very attentive and refilled my coffee, a couple of times, among other things. Definitely a place to check out for a good, traditional breakfast.
