Been going here for years, But this past year has been something of a huge letdown. Some friends wanted to check it out and it had been awhile since our last disappointment, so we tried it and again, just like before, took an hour to get our breakfast and everything was burnt. Unfortunately we won't be going back. Eating out is way too expensive to get burnt food after waiting an hour. The waitress was very nice. You need to find a better cook. There is a huge selection of pinball machines and they do offer video poker. The food is no frills but you won't leave hungry. The cook wearing the egg pants holds my heart with the amount of cheese in my omelette and the butter on my English muffin-- my hangover was destroyed, along with my arteries, but I loved every delicious morsel. The labor, Temple and bar is quite a place. It must have had a very interesting history walking around and looking and seeing the space. I like the art that I see hanging on the walls. I imagine it has quite a storied history. This is a huge venue. I wonder what kind of special events they have inside at times. As for the food, I went for the chicken fried steak with tater tots and a pancake instead of the eggs. The wife went for the patty melt also with tater tots. The food in general is pretty good, although I was a little disappointed at the size of the chicken fried steak. Considering the price I paid. Maybe it was a fair exchange. Service was good. Stopped in on a busy weekend for breakfast and while the wait was long (expected given the busy weekend), the food was good, the coffee was hot and the service was friendly. It's a tavern atmosphere with a bar in the back and a bunch of arcade games. There is a stage for live music. Food is standard diner fare done well. The things we would wish to be different were all based on the place being extra busy. I imagine on a normal day/weekend, no problems. We are not here often but have enjoyed our visits. It isn't a fancy place but has good food and good drinks. We have had good service from the staff. Parking can be an issue but we have always found something within a block. I particularly like the drinks: generous pours by an experienced and friendly bartender. I walked into Silk City meets the Trocadero. This gem in Astoria is what this Philly girl needed today. I got a seat at the counter and cup of water immediately, such an attentive staff. I ordered a half order of the Matty-J. This is not your typical biscuit sandwich and gravy. The gravy was thick and flavorful, smothering the biscuit stacked with sausage patty and egg over easy, frosted with shredded cheese. I added wee bit of tabasco with bottomless black coffee and I was transported to Sundays in the 90's at the Silk City Diner. This place has an eclectic vibe with pinball machines and stage reminding me of the Troc in its heyday. The staff is friendly as well as the patrons. The grillman was working NONSTOP, sign of a disciplined master chef. If you're in the Portland area this is definitely worth the drive to the coast(2hrs). I made it and so should you. read more

We stayed Saturday and Sunday night in Astoria. We bar hopped on Sunday night but to be honest we spent 2-3 hours at Labor Temple. We had a blast. We have to be real though.. this is a DIVE BAR. This is also were the locals go or at least some. We happened upon karaoke night and had so much fun. Drinks were super cheap, onion rings were what you expected and the locals were super friendly. Their DJJ for Karaoke was pretty good and there was never a time when someone wasn't singing. There were also multiple times were the who bar was singing a song!!! We absolutely will come back and this place was absolutely one of the highlights. read more

The people were very friendly, but the seats in the booths were completely devoid of stuffing and the most uncomfortable I've ever sat on. Definitely a locals place and I give 3 stars because of slow service and cold food. Perhaps unfair to place the blame on the server as she was the only one working the front of the house. We sat in the back of the restaurant, starting in a lumpy broken down booth then moved to a regular table, ceiling fans blowing cold air over everyone. The server came pretty quick to bring coffee and menus, then to take our order. It had to have been more than 30 minutes to bring the food, which was now cold from sitting ready to go. Ceiling fans making it colder. Late with more coffee and the ketchup that was asked for. On the plus side, prices are good and portions are large. We were able to get curbside parking out front. If we came again we would sit at the counter out front so we might be able to ensure quicker service and hot food. read more

Now the Labor Temple has been here for a good long time. The food here is pretty much good every time we've eaten here. Service is spot on too they're gone keep you in coffee if'n that's your thing. I'd recommend putting their sausage gravy on your hash browns or your French toast too its that good! Best sides it messes with those Frenchman folks! I've been eating Chicken fried steaks all over the country but this one is packed with flavor I don't understand why they give you a steak knife the bugger is fork tender! The Labor Temple is a good place for anyone looking for good food service and a bartender who can make you feel good and at home. This feels like "the" town dive bar/greasy spoon, basically a local hangout. Arrived a little after 8am for breakfast and there was a group of 7 older gentlemen at a table talking about everything from football, cows, true crime and fishing. There are tables and booths in the back and further back in the showstage area. Pinball machines, a jukebox and more game machines occupy the middle part of the establishment. The stage area is pretty good sized, with booths lined up on one side, leaving a large area for dancing. As for the food, I had the Veggie omelet which came with a choice of toast and a side. We stayed in Astoria over the weekend and didn't want to wait in the huge line for average food at the main spot. Let's be clear, this is a dive bar. We were not expecting that but the wife was hangry hungry so in we went (with teen child). The food was good. Solid diner food. All three of us were happy with our meals. Kind of breakfast you love to douse in hot sauce and drink a lot of coffee with. Service was fine. It's a dive bar so we didn't expect a lot and that's what we got. Ambiance, little rough. Bathrooms were heinous. Clientele probably a little rough for the pearl clutching crowd. I like a nice local bar once and a while. This works for me, not sure I'd bring a young family in their Sunday best here. read more

This is a quintessential old time beach pub. It's long, narrow and dark inside but pleasant as a whole. The staff are friendly and caring as we observed them seeing to a "regular" who obviously had dementia, treating them kindly. We went for breakfast. It was well prepared and of good value with a what I will call a standard menu. Don't expect fancy coffee here. We will return to see if it is consistent. It was a little chilly each time the door opened despite sitting all the way in the back of the first section, but it is winter. We came here for the Prince tribute band, and they were amazing! The crowd was lively, the drinks were pretty good too. We visited this place earlier the same day for dinner though, as the Prince concert was at 10PM and by then they'd only have a bar menu, and I don't recommend the place for dinner. I ordered a tuna melt with chicken tortilla soup and my boyfriend ordered a chicken fried steak. He enjoyed his (but he likes CFS anywhere, anytime), while my sandwich was tiny (I thought it'd come on a baguette or dinner roll or something, not just small sandwich bread) and super greasy. As in, my bread was dripping oil/butter every time I squeezed with my fingers as I picked it up. I felt like my stomach was full of grease by the end of that meal. The soup was fine, I wished I just ordered a bowl of that. So overall, my experience with the bar/venue would be a 5 just because of how good the band was and how ideal the place is for shows like this. Service was a 5 because the bartenders were pretty attentive. Food was a 2. Keep in mind that it's all bar food, the kind you get late at night when the main kitchen is shut off and the actual cook has gone home--even if you arrive during their dinner hours (we were there at 7PM). The fact that they service breakfast/lunch all day (until 9PM) though is great. So maybe go here for late night drunk food when you don't care how greasy your meal is. And definitely come for their live music. Rating this place is tough, but I guess for what it is, they're okay. Here's an overly generous 4 stars, but mainly because the Prince tribute band resulted in an amazing night. read more

This place is a gem. Here's my list of why I like it: 1. Historical: The building is from 1924 and was used as a gathering place for blue collar workers looking for work or workers. 2. Today, it is true to its roots. It's a diner (I only had bar food which was hearty and delish) and the food is priced reasonably. Blue collar food. 3. Heidi the bartender. She is competent, efficient and has a laid back personality. She is approachable and also knows how to not be intrusive. We welcomed conversation with her. 4. The diner is in front, the bar is in back and has pinball machines as well as Oregon gambling machines. The owners also bring in local entertainment such as a burlesque show, comedy shows and cover bands (I was told that the Led Zeppelin cover band killed it last week!). 5. The locals. Loved talking to them. Down to earth and generous with information about the area. 6. No hipsters. Go see for yourself. If you're brave, get Heidi to make the Spanish coffee drink and tell her that Sally sent you. read more
