Growing up in Columbia, you're bound to hear about Labrasca's Pizza. For me, I grew up very close to the place, so my family would order pizza from this joint about every other Friday. It became a little tradition, and my brother and I have this place to thank for our future pizza addictions. The atmosphere is very classic, looks like nothing has really been changed from the 1960's, and I personally enjoy the old school decor with moderate changes made to the place. Dimly lit and relaxed, it's usually not packed out. You can have a quiet evening filled of conversation with friends, family, or your significant other with little to no distraction. Now onto the important part: the food. The quality is great. Labrasca's has it's "own" style. It's not New York style by a long shot, and I think that's why I dig it so much. The tomato sauce has a slight sweet taste to it, and the ingredients are always fresh. Pretty good beer selection with domestic and imports. Great prices for the beers on tap, as they range from $1.75 to $2. The service is good, and they keep up with their customers, making sure that you're good on everything. I haven't had delivery from Labrasca's in years, but I do remember them being quite fast. I really dig this spot, and to see it rated so low is kind of disappointing. One thing I've noticed about some people in Columbia is they are simply setting their expectations far too high from the beginning. Go into this restaurant and appreciate it for what it is. I hate those people who say "the only good pizza is in (insert city where that person grew up)." I am not one of those people. Unfortunately for LaBrasca's, though, I do have taste buds. And standards. This place is pretty gross. The crust tastes like cardboard that's been frozen and thawed a hundred times. The cheese looks like rubber and tastes like nothing. The "meat" should have quotations around it on the menu. I do not understand the 5 star reviews. It's just not good. Bottled dressing and unseasoned pizza. I think people eat here for the history that this restaurant represents. This is possibly the worst pizza I have ever had. Frozen pizza is better. I am not even exaggerating. They use cheap, low quality, pre-made crusts that are a hard disc somewhere between bread and a cracker. The kind you get at high school football games or other low end concession stands. I have never, in 48 years, seen a restaurant use these. The open kitchen afforded me a view of the preparation: A worker with one gloved hand and one ungloved hand grabbed one of the hard, dry discs off of the unwrapped, uncovered stack on a shelf and actually dragged it, flat, over the surface of a vat of sauce. There was no care or attention. The sauce was so think I believe it to be straight tomato paste. It adhered to the "crust" in a thick layer. Then, with the ungloved hand, the worker put cheese on top. When I got my pizza, there was a thick layer of paste around the edges. The bell peppers where obviously pre-chopped, bagged, frozen bell peppers and i think the tomatoes were canned. There was no flavor to the sauce. Not an herb, not even salt. Just tomato paste. It was vile. Let's be clear: Even Papa John's and Pizza Hut use actual pizza dough. They gave us actual STYROFOAM plates and cups. The place is dark and depressing. I do not understand how they have been in business for 50 years. I do not know how they have won awards. People in Columbia must be so starved for decent food they think this is good. We tried to "help local business" and eat there. I don't like the pizza to begin with so I was a little annoyed when the service was awful. We called the day before and placed an order to be picked up at a specific time. Upon arrival we observed the cashier with the long black hair (female) be rude to the person in front of us. When it was our turn we paid and let them know that we were there to pick up the pizza and salads we ordered 24 hours ago. We waited 45 minutes all while having a few beers. Still trying to stimulate the business that has been atound for so long. After 45 mins I asked about our order and was told the salads were coming and if we had paid. The cashier was then joined by a waitress who was also completely rude showing us random tickets eith no receipts attached. We were not given nor offered a receipt dor our payment of cash. The cashier had an attitude the entire time we were there. The staff member that served our beers wasn't pleasant. I guess ehat I am trying to say is when all you have to offer is less than average pizza and lettuce with feta thrown on top of it maybe you should actually have friendly customer service. Then you won't have to beg for customers on Social Media. Covid or not, no business will survive long with those attitudes serving your customers. But don't worry we won't be back. Upon moving to Columbia from out of state I was excited to check out nearby pizza joints. This place has the look of a great neighborhood hole in the wall pizzeria so I had high hopes. Those hopes were quickly dashed as soon as I saw them pull a pre-made store bought crust off of the shelf to make an order. The pizza is bad. So bad. So bland. Not surprisingly the crust is dry and flavorless. The pizza is underbaked (probably so the awful crust doesn't completely turn into a cracker while in the oven) which means the cheese was just barely melted. I will never recommend this place to anyone. I would rather eat off brand frozen pizza from a discount store. This place came highly recommended by a local that has lived here for decades. I opened the medium pie in it's to go box... excitement builds...I take a bite (which is over saturated with sauce)...and wow, this is the single worst pizza I have ever eaten. The sauce is so sugary it is virtually inedible unless you put it over ice cream. It's that sweet. The cheese is a cheap, rubbery blend that was undercooked and just slid around that sweet sauce. The crust was worse than the grocery store bought crusts that you bake yourself. Soggy, undercooked, no crunch, no taste, it was overall horrendous. The toppings were so covered with cheese and sauce that you couldn't taste them. Wow, did this pizza suck. After that first bite, the salad and the rest of the pizza went straight to the trash can and I ordered Dominos. Yes, that bad. Went to pizza parlor on a Saturday evening. Place is a local legend in business for years. The place is dated. Has cheesy fake grapes on the wall. The wall has smoke stains from candles that used to burn. The tables have a tacky greasy feel to them. The carpet is a dingy dirty brown color that looks like it has Clorox stains. The pizza is worse then the decor, The crust is not made in house. It comes out of a plastic bag that is clearly visible when you walk in. The quality is horrible not in the same league as what you can buy at any grocery store. Low quality. The tomato sauce comes straight out of a can so you have that tin can taste. I wouldn't say it's the best pizza in the world, because it's just different. Some people hate it, some people love it. My entire family and most of the friends I've taken there have happened to love it. Yes, the cheese salad is just iceberg with a wedge of tomato and a pound of shredded cheese, but you don't go to Labrasca's for salad. My favorite is their version of a supreme, with just about everything from their standard toppings list minus the ground beef, ham, and anchovies. I also like their plane-jane pepperoni. Most of all, this place has a ton of history (some of my parents' first dates), and there's a great little bakery next door. If I could give a negative star a would. I'll start by letting you know what I ordered. I had the over seasoned chicken wings and the under seasoned pizza (half cheese and sausage half Hawaiian). I just signed up on yelp to warn people about this place. Par-baked frozen crust, literally the worst pizza I've had at a restaurant. It's called a 5 min pizza for a reason, it's already baked. They suggest extra cheese at the table, now we know it's to cover the terrible crust. Second of all I grew up in the Columbia/Lexington area and have been going to labrascas since I could practically eat anything other than baby food. If you don't like the seats then go to a restaurant that's been built within the past 5 years. Labrasca's has been up and running since before I was born if they have uncomfortable seats who cares if expect worse. The only reason I gave this place 1 star is because there wasn't a ZERO star option. This is garbage canned toppings, overly sweetenned pizza sauce on a frozen pizza crust. Lebrasca'a also tries their hardest to waste as much styrofoam as possible. Everyone gets a styrofoam cup, salad bowl, extra plate for overflowing salad bowl. The angry waitress then takes your plates (even if they're clean) and replaces them with new styrofoam plates for which you eat your disgusting pizza on. They don't use reuseable anything, everything gets thrown away. How hard would it be to hire a dishwasher, pay him minimum wage, and use cheap plastic plates? They would be saving money almost immediately. The pizza is honestly the worst pizza I have ever had....EVER. Worse than school cafeteria rectangle pizza, even microwave $0.99 pizza tastes better because it gets soft in the microwave. Lebrasca's pizza is overly crunchy on the bottom, but everything else is soft. If you try to pick it up, the cheese slides off while you try to gnaw through the crust. A fork and knife is absolutely required, which makes me wonder why they even call it pizza. Its more like some kind of dollar store casserole pie. The toppings are bland and obviously canned, while the frozen crust is probably purchased from SAM'S. My parents have been going here for years, so they go occasionally just for tradition. This has to be the only reason why they are still in business. The restaurant and its customers are still stuck in the 80's and nobody seems to care. Open your eyes people, the food is terrible, and the service is awful. Not to mention the impact on the enviroment after 40 years of wasting stockpiles of styrofoam.
