I think places located along Michigan can get a bad rep for being tourist traps, but Labriola was genuinely excellent. My girlfriend and I arrived at the scene having made a reservation some time prior. There was a momentary bit of panic when our reservation didn't appear on the system, but the hostess was good enough to give us a table outside anyways. I appreciated that courtesy very much, and the staff was professional and warm through the service. The restaurant itself had the sort of intimate golden lighting that all self-respecting Italian places seem to have, and the outdoor eating area was clean and well-maintained despite its location alongside a busy walkway. Regarding food, the vodka pasta was cooked a perfect al dente, and the vodka sauce was wonderfully light and flavorful. It was even better with a generous extra garnish of crushed red pepper flakes. But the star of the show was their cupping pepperoni pizza. Generously cheesy, a beautiful crust with just the right amount of chew, and a sumptuous note of hot honey accentuating every bite made for a truly memorable pizza experience. I will absolutely be back. Their deep dish looked ridiculously indulgent, and I kind of can't wait to contribute more of my money to Rich Labriola's creation. read more

08/10/22 - I was by here a couple of years ago when by brother from Seattle was here. We didn't get a chance to eat @ Labriola then but my wife & I finally stopped in today after the riverwalk. We ordered a 12" sausage. The edge of the dough looked like it had a caramelized crust similar to Peaquods. Sorry to say it wasn't even close. The pizza had a ton of cheese & a tomato topping that wasn't a sauce but chunks of tomato. Our server was very good - prompt and friendly - however we had a 9pm reservation and by 9:45 the staff was aggressively bussing our table in an effort to hasten our departure. Despite their best efforts, we ordered dessert (choc chip cookie skillet) and it was, quite literally, raw cookie dough just heated through. Liquid cookie dough, if you will. Our apps and dinner food was mediocre - the apps were solid, we had crispy calamari and goat cheese with crostini but my shrimp cacio pepe and my daughter's 4 cheese tortellini were essentially the same dish with different pasta. Everyone needs somewhere for their Chicago-style pizza christening, and Labriola was mine. Labriola's pizzas are mouthwatering behemoths. It's hard to imagine ungodly quantities of cheese atop 2 inches of golden crust as anything but delicious. And they were, indeed, delicious. However, I found the pizza to be lacking in sauce and overzealous with cheese (though take my non-native opinion with several grains of salt). Given the heavy prep time and denseness of the meal, Chicago-style pizza isn't exactly my favorite form of cheese and carbs, but Labriola served up the experience I was after and for that it was worth a trip. My one recommendation is to avoid letting your eyes be bigger than your stomach (one 12" is enough to serve 4 hungry people!) read more

Not an expert in Chicago deep dish pizza styles, so can't comment on authenticity, but in any case, the "Danny 's Special" Chicago Deep Dish is one hell of a delicious pizza! Rich, deep, satisfying. Had to take-out because didn't make reservation and the wait was long, but pizza still tasted great after a short walk back to the hotel room. Staff was cheerful and thoughtful, and the "Legalize Marinara" T-shirts were hilarious. Will try to return on next visit to the Loop. read more

We stopped in for lunch without a reservation on a Thursday afternoon and were seated immediately. We ordered the garlic knots, which were kind of like garlicky croissants. They were really light, airy and very good. I got the four cheese tortellini. It had nice big bits of prosciutto and fresh tasting peas that brought some brightness to the rich creamy sauce. The portions are massive and basically two meals in one. Everyone one else at my table enjoyed their meals as well, although we all had leftovers due to the portion size. Labriola is located in prime real estate - right off Michigan Avenue. I was initially timid to give it a try, fearing it would be another underwhelming restaurant that benefits from it's convenient location. However, after walking by several times and seeing some delicious looking meals on the patio, I decided to dine in at Labriola. Unfortunately, my suspicion was mostly correct, in my experience. I ordered the gnocchi bolognese and it was not very flavorful, at all. Quite a disappointing dish that I almost always enjoy at other restaurants. As Italian restaurants go, Labriola (this one on Michigan Ave.) had a very good Italian menu along with some very good food. Their portions are "bodacious", and the outside seating was lovely. That's kind of where my allocates stop. Us four all ordered a starter dish followed by our entrees. All eight dishes came out at the same time? Like what the heck (I cleaned up that expletive). Our table was so crowded with plates of food, we had to start stacking things! Why didn't I send the entrees back? For the mere fact that we didn't want our food sitting under a heat lamp for 15 - 20 minutes. I'll finish my grumbling with the payment of our check. Our server came out with her hand held payment machine and asked me if I'd like a receipt; I replied Yes! I entered my phone number and expected a texted copy and got NADA / NOTHING! So, I'm going to say this dinner was a fail (regretfully). As for the food - it was classic Italian that was actually quite good. My chicken parmigiana and Caesar salad were excellent. My wife's lemon chicken was also very good. Our friends enjoyed their meal and our red wine was wonderful but I don't know or remember what they had to eat or what wine we drank; as I (again) didn't get my receipt. Great location with lots of seating and I didn't need to make a reservation. This location is different than the Oak Brook location, in that they have servers to take your order, rather than you order and they bring out to your table (fast casual). They serve all kinds of pizza (including deep dish) and it was true to Chicago. We also ordered entrees and while they're large portion, they're delicious and could be easily finished. Service was very good for a very busy downtown location. Prices are not expensive, so you could get a great meal, feel like a million bucks, and not hurt the wallet. This is my second time here. Once for lunch and I enjoyed it, had a salad. This last time was more an early dinner. Looks like a good happy hour crowd, but we sat in the restaurant side as we were not drinking. Just seemed everything was underwhelming. Pistachio encrusted white fish was pretty awful. It was not a crust at all. It was just mush. And very greasy. Had a thin crust pizza, which was also underwhelming. So much good pizza in Chicago, and I'll say it was mediocre at best. We live nearby and visit fairly regularly. Our last visit, our waiter was Yas, and she made our lunch experience better than ever. The food is always consistent and delicious. This time we split a salad and a pizza. Yas made sure our drinks were as we liked, that there was no meat in our salad and our half and half pizza was exactly as ordered. We always get a large thin crust and bring home leftovers for later. This pizza here is as good cold as piping hot. A local described this restaurant to me as "Italian Fast food" and I think that sums up the experience perfectly. Definitely nothing too fancy but the food came out quick and it was tasty. I wasn't too impressed with the Penne Alla Vodka- I felt like I could make it better at home, there just wasn't enough sauce for me personally. The spotlight of this meal was definitely the goat cheese appetizer. It made me question why I haven't seen that dish more often. It was warm, gooey and flavorful. As a huge fan of all things goat cheese related, it was a hit for me. We arrived soon after they opened for lunch and pretty much walked into an empty restaurant. I kind of felt it would stay that way until we finished up, but I was wrong. The place was more than half full once we were finished eating. The staff was very friendly. They got our order in very quickly, since we were ordering a deep dish we knew it would take awhile. We decided to order their sausage deep dish pizza. The pizza itself was really tasty. If you could gather all the great stuff each main pizza joint has around the city, then you pretty much get Labriola. The sauce was acidic and chunky, the sausage was very flavorful and the crust was out of this world. It may look burnt to most, but don't be fooled, that toasted cheese my friends. One thing for sure is that Labriola is staying on my list going forward. It won't be coming on and off anymore. I'll definitely be returning. read more

The skinny deep dish pizza was a pleasant surprise, the right ratio of toppings to crust. They will do a Hal/half on toppings so you can split the pizza.
