This is such a Chicago staple with a true Chicagoan vibe. It has the soul of the city! We stopped in for restaurant week, but have had Gene & Georgetti on our list for a while. It was the perfect setting for a date night, with romantic table setting and an intimate vibe. The service here is top notch. We were able to describe what we liked in a drink to our server and he had perfect suggestions that we both ended up loving. The food was incredible! Such a great portion and excellent quality for the restaurant week price. The steak was cooked perfectly and had an amazing sear on it. My partner also really enjoyed the calamari and couldn't stop raving about it. I cannot get over how much we love the vibe and Chicago-ness of this spot! 85 years in operation for a good reason!

We had a great experience!! The service was impeccable and the ambiance was kind of a speakeasy vibes. We started with the seafood tower, which was pretty well stocked. I def prefer warm seafood so it wasn't my favorite but the seafood was quality. My friends loved it. For meals we got the prime rib, NY strip, truffle pasta, and the filet. I tried everything but the filet and it was all very good. The NY strip was one of the best I've had in the city. Would def come back just for that! For sides we got the asparagus, mushrooms, and spinach. I really liked the asparagus but they were all good. I'd probably try something different next time. Opted out of dessert but did have some great wine too. Overall great experience, definitely an underrated steakhouse in Chicago.

A classic staple, Gene & Georgetti is about what you'd expect from an old school Chicago steakhouse. While on the smaller side, it doesn't get too loud or busy, making it a nice place to go for an easy dinner. If you try only one thing, I recommend the flourless chocolate lava cake. It's the perfect amount of chocolate without being overwhelmed. It's a bit of a wait as they make it fresh, but it's worth it.

My 5 Takeaways (in under 60 seconds) Location: Great location. Easy to find, with a good amount of nearby street parking available. Vibe: Ten out of ten. If you love that old-school mafia Goodfellas feel, this is the spot for you. The atmosphere is comfortable, small and cozy, but classy and upscale. Service: Excellent customer service from beginning to end. Our waiter was friendly and attentive, checking on us often, keeping our drinks full, and going out of his way to make our visit one to remember. Food: Delicious and mouthwatering. For an appetizer, we ordered the Oysters Rockefeller - an excellent choice! The oysters were fresh and packed with flavor. For my entrée, I ordered the New York strip with a side of mashed potatoes and grilled seasonal vegetables. Everything was cooked to perfection and tasted amazing. Zero complaints. Quick Tip: Reserve the Frank Sinatra booth - it's the best seat in the house!

I have been a long time fan of G&G. I have been going to this restaurant since 1996 I was so pumped about taking my wife for the first time and it was a disappointment. So what was good? The 12oz Filet was cooked perfectly.and they sliced it for us. While it did taste good it got cold and I have had much much better. The supreme potato was the star of the show. Well done and tasted amazing!!! The cranberry martini was awesome along with the espresso martini. The fall mule was just whisky on the rocks and not good So the bad? The salad way too much dressing and over the top blue cheese. The gnocchi. Was soft and perfect but the 4 cheese was too pungent. They need to work on greetings. No one at the entrance had to navigate to find someone and not extremely personable. We had reservations but we got sat by the entrance which is by the bar and where everyone waiting for their tables stands. We and everyone on this four table area had people standing right next to them as they ate. The server was so so not bad but not great. The guy who brought water and cleaned our table was super nice. I wanted this to be as memorable as I remembered, but was sadly disappointed. I know they can do better and hope they do, but with so many other options for steak I would probably think twice before coming back.

Had been on my list for years. Came in with my girlfriend the day before Valentine's day. I like the wood decor and classic layout of the restaurant. Ordered a Vesper Martini, Caesar salad, 14 oz NY strip with side of mashed potatoes. Shared some onion rings with my girlfriend. We reflected how the onion rings taste differently than the ones we get from neighborhood burger place. I remarked on how there are different varieties of onions and they probably use different onions for frying. The steak was nice and rare how I like it. I loved how the Caesar salad not only uses anchovies but you see the anchovies and they give little savory+ salty taste. For dessert went with turtle cheesecake to end the meal. It was superb.

A Chicago Restaurant Week home run! The steak perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. The calamari tender. The creamed spinach delicious. The dessert was decadent. Couple the outstanding food with the tremendous service and this classic Chicago restaurant was amazing!

Caesar salad with prime skirt steak

We secured a 6 PM reservation for two on a Monday. The old-school energy was immediate--the carpet really leans into that vintage aesthetic. Our evening began with the lobster cocktail, followed by an entrée of Caesar salad with prime skirt steak and a 12 oz filet mignon accompanied by mashed potatoes. While both steaks were prepared to perfection, the mashed potatoes unfortunately possessed a peculiar aftertaste. Despite the minor disappointment with the side dish, it was a lovely dining experience overall.

Ugh. Nip and tuck down to the minimum to make the tourist/conference crowd happy but not satisfied. Not what it used to be pre-COVID, pre-fire. Examples: no veal on the menu (read cost cutting). Silly but indicative--signature tortellini soup no longer has spinach. Bread service - new vendor=bad. Do not get the spinach -- it is 80% disgusting cheese. They are now providing one menu per table. Really? There are far better steaks in Chicago.

One of the best steakhouse experiences in Chicago. You come here and you get treated like family. Incredible vibes and the food is second to none.

    Smoked shrimp cocktail, N/A Negroni
    Nicole T.

Perfect celebratory meal! We started with the smoked shrimp cocktail, N/A Negroni and their "heavenly" Manhattan to drink. I had the 12 oz filet and my husband got the 14 oz NY strip with bernaise for our mains. Both were cooked a perfect medium rare with a great char. We shared the grilled asparagus and potato supreme for sides. I had a glass of the Il Bruciato Super Tuscan with my steak. Everything was absolutely delicious. Wonderful service. Lively, familial yet upscale ambiance. Pricey! But we were celebrating and it felt so worth it. We were stuffed, so we ordered a slice of the chocolate cake to go for dessert. So glad we did. Phenomenal. Highly recommend the Chicago institution!

This was my second visit to Gene and Georgetti and it was even more amazing than the first. The food is beautifully prepared and served. The wait staff is excellent and highly attentive. The ambience is old world Chicago with a beautifully appointed bar area and comfortable dining area. You can tell this spot is a long time favorite of many good folks in Chicago. The steaks are excellent and the wedge salad is truly something special. This is a great spot for a fine meal in Chicago.

Up until tonight, my experiences had always been positive and the food was fantastic. Unfortunately, this visit was more than disappointing. I ordered a salad I've had at least a dozen times before, accept I added grilled chicken on top. I live for this salad and was just there maybe three weeks ago. Unaware that they have changed their menu, I ordered as usual. The name of the salad has not changed on the menu, but apparently the ingredients had been completely altered. When the dish arrived, to my surprise, it was drastically different and not something I enjoyed at all. I politely informed our server, who was kind and accommodating, and offered to replace the dish. However, it was now 6 p.m. we had tickets to see The Wiz at 7 p.m. and didn't have time to wait for another order, which I also informed her. I asked if the salad could be removed from the bill since it was essentially untouched. The server checked with the owner, who refused to remove the $30 salad or offer any kind of discount. When a restaurant changes a dish but keeps the same name, it creates a reasonable expectation for returning customers. When that expectation isn't met, basic customer service should step in. What makes this even more frustrating is that the restaurant was willing to prepare an entirely new dish, but not willing to remove the uneaten one from the bill. That simply isn't logical. If you're prepared to replace an item, it clearly acknowledges there was an issue, so refusing to comp or adjust the original charge is unreasonable. That decision was extremely disappointing. I, in-turn made the decision to eat only the additional grilled chicken on top, leaving the rest of the salad, paying the full bill and promptly getting out of there so we could be on time for our show. The only positive part of the experience was our server, who handled the situation with professionalism and kindness. Sadly, the new menu leaves much to be desired and this experience has cost Peanut Park my business and my referrals going forward.

Reservations are released 21 days ahead of time, which I personally find impossible to make. Every time I've checked over the last several years there have been no availability. Yesterday I decided to pop on their website again and was delighted to find that they had released same day dinner reservations for patio only dining. The weather was perfect for outdoor dining so I went ahead and booked a table for Friday night. I felt like I won the dinner lottery. Service was wonderful and I didn't mind sitting outside at all next to the road with cars. I actually never stepped foot in the restaurant so cannot comment on what it's like inside. But do not give up that patio dining reservation if it's available. All of our dishes were delicious. I was really impressed by the meatball appetizers, chicken vesuvio (the potatoes are a must get as a side if you skip this dish), and branzino. The meats and sauces were wonderfully balanced and tender. Nothing tasted overly salted. Ironically, the pasta felt less of a star compared to the other dishes. And of course I had to get the gelato, which was so aesthetically presented and the taste just reminded me of an Italian summer vacation.

A welcome water drink with an orange slice arrived, without request, and the bread basket saved the day for the hungry toddler. Our waiter was extremely helpful and nice and suggested something not entirely on the menu for the toddler which we appreciated so much. When I got up to find the bathroom, before I even had the chance to ask, one of the waiters just told me where to go, anticipating my need. When it was time to go, they boxed up our foods and gave us extra bread because our toddler loved it. Also - food wise - we tried the basics - the lasagna and a clam linguini - delicious.
