Extremely disappointed with Southwest HVAC…read more I called Southwest HVAC in April to have my AC serviced before summer because I have a newborn at home and wanted to make sure our system was reliable before the hot weather hit. I specifically took the initiative to have the unit maintained ahead of time because keeping my family comfortable and safe was a priority. During that visit, Southwest HVAC charged me $1,000 for a capacitor and a hard-start kit. I thought the price was extremely high, but I agreed to pay it because I trusted that I was paying for professional service and, more importantly, peace of mind that my AC would be ready for the summer. Fast-forward ONLY FIVE MONTHS and my AC won't even turn on. Naturally, I called Southwest HVAC expecting them to stand behind the work they had performed just five months earlier. Instead, I was told I would have to pay another $100 diagnostic fee just for them to come out and look at the system. That's what I find completely unacceptable. You charged me $1,000 to service and repair my AC, and less than five months later the system isn't even turning on--and your response is essentially, "Pay us another $100 and we'll take a look." If you are going to charge customers premium prices for HVAC work, I expect a reasonable level of accountability when the equipment fails shortly after you serviced it. I shouldn't have to pay another fee simply to find out whether the work I already paid you $1,000 for was done properly or whether the components you installed have failed. The timing is especially frustrating because I specifically had this work done BEFORE summer precisely so I wouldn't end up in this situation. I have a newborn in the house, and now I'm dealing with a non-functioning AC in the middle of summer after paying this company $1,000 for service only five months ago. $1,000 in April. AC completely dead in September. Another $100 just to get someone to diagnose it. That is not what I consider good customer service, and it certainly isn't what I expected when I paid Southwest HVAC to service my system. I would strongly recommend getting a second opinion and comparing prices before giving this company your business. Jerry from Manny's Heating & Air Conditioning was very professional and knowledgeable who diagnosed the problem within about 15 minutes, explained the repair clearly, asked for permission before performing each step, and verified the temperature and operation afterward. One important detail: my HVAC is a rooftop packaged unit with indoor access only through a master bedroom walk in closet. There are no building stairs to the roof, so the technician must bring a ladder and climb about 11 feet indoors. This unusual setup made it difficult for me to find a company willing to handle the access, but Manny's was able to take care of it without any issues. It has been 10 days since the repair, and the air conditioner is running normally again. The repair came with a standard 90 day warranty, but honestly the quality of the work mattered more to me than the warranty. I recommend this company.

Jerry diagnosed that it was a low capacitor and freon leak, and that the fan motor was not broken like others have said. Other companies needed me to purchase additional parts to get it fixed but Jerry was able to get my AC working the same day. My HVAC unit was nearing it's end of life so I was also comparing bids on what made the most sense for my condo. Jerry offered to temporarily 'lend' us a new capacitor and pumped freon into my system at no charge while I made the decision whether I wanted just the fix or to replace my system. If I decided to just go with the fix, I would pay for it of course, but if I went with replacing the system, they would just take back their capacitor and reclaim the freon. This was a hugely appreciated gesture. Their HVAC replacement proposal was also very competitive. I ultimately decided to replace the system. The experience was pleasant from beginning to end. Cecilia is the one who helps schedule at the office, very friendly and responsive. Jerry was the technician who helped us diagnose the issue and coordinate the HVAC team. He was friendly, transparent, and always responded quickly to my texts/questions - great communication. The day of, the workers Juan, Victor and Andrew were very professional. Maintained constant communication the whole time, kept me updated on the process and what they were doing. They wore booties inside, protected the floor with tarp, and were just very careful in general. The installation of the unit itself is very professionally done, and they vacuumed everything and cleaned up afterwards. They even explained how to register the units for warranties etc. They were able to remove the old AC and install the whole new system the same day, roughly ~5-6 hours including the crane to get the units on/off the roof of the condo building.
