I am from out of town (like 90 minutes out of town) and stumbled across Lisa's Instagram page. I have family that lives in the Columbus area and immediately booked an appointment when I knew I was headed that way. I got a gel manicure and gel pedicure. The minute you walk in, there is an insanely cool vibe that I've never gotten from a nail salon before. As far as actual nail services, I am totally impressed and will definitely be back next time I'm in town. I am so sorry to leave this review, I am not the type to take time to do this but I hope this can be constructive to the salon. I inquired about hair services via the contact page on Lacquer's website and never received a response. Days later I decided to be spontaneous and schedule a hair cut and style with one of the stylists, regardless. Upon entering, no one was at the front desk, which is understandable, but then I waited 10 minutes until I finally asked a stylist who was busy to go snag someone as it was past my appointment time. My stylist was SO KIND, cool, and a great conversationalist. I made a point to talk about the texture of my hair, what has worked, what has not, and exactly what I was looking for today. This has always been important when getting my hair cut because it is so curly. Without asking me any questions, she proceeded with the cut. Upon finishing, she looked puzzled. She slicked my hair down with a bunch of moose and said, " That is all the product I have that will work in your hair." I inquired about diffusion, and she was quick to say "My hair dryer is too high powered." I suggested pinning it and sitting under the heat chairs, she said she did not have the right clips. As a sat there silent, I looked to the other clients, getting their hair blown out. I though my stylist would at least offer an alternative since she was suggesting I walk home in the winter with wet, combed out curls... She did not. She took off my bib and said she could take me at the register. I should have spoken up, but I was too upset and I did not want it to come out aggressively. I stuck my newly thinned hair in a bun, paid for a hair cut and the STYLE I did not receive, and left. Now two weeks later, this cut has proven to be the worst one ever. I have a mullet and ridiculously shelf-like layers. The exact things I warned the stylist about. I believe my stylist has extensive training and skills to work in such a trendy, up-scale salon, but clearly Lacquer's multi-cultural hair knowledge is LAC-ING. I would not be writing this review if my stylist would have been up front about her experience and more flexible with styling options. I hope the salon can: 1. better train stylists to offer pricing alternatives when full services are not preformed 2. better prime the salon for different hair types and 3. help your hair stylist feel comfortable asking questions of their clients. Please note, this was only one service type of MANY this salon offers. The atmosphere of the facility was bright, fun, and comfortable. I am sure not everyone's experience was like mine. But for other curlies out there, I may suggest approaching with caution or sticking to a salon with advertised curl experience. Update: I just got off the phone with Salon Owner Lisa, and it was a very pleasant conversation! I was sure to underscore how fabulous the stylist was in her demeanor and overall person-to-person treatment of me as her client. Lisa let me know that since this review Lacquer has acquired new diffusers better suited for curly hair and discussed with her stylists protocol change; instead of not offering a service due to time or experience, ask for assistance to better suit the customer. Since my review, I did get my hair trimmed up with my regular stylist so I kindly declined Lisa's kind offer of service re-do. I will be back at some point to try out Lacquer's other fine services! I just saw Toria today for my first Brazilian wax, she came recommended by a friend, and I have to say I can completely understand why she has such a good reputation. I was really nervous, both about the pain and because it's an intimate process, but her laid back personality put me at easy. She guided me every step of the way with the process and always explained to me what was happening while also helping me distract myself with a nice conversation. I was able to book an appointment the day of for a gel pedicure and was satisfied with my service. It was a busy time of night when I went but I didn't have to wait long when I arrived. However, I was disappointed with the overall experience. My nail tech hardly said two words to me the entire time during my service and I felt like the price I payed was not worth it. I was expecting to have some other things include in the service (foot scrub and lotion) for the price I payed. I feel like I've had better experiences in the grandview area with nicer chairs, friendlier staff, and higher quality care. read more

Staff messed up my appt time and then blamed me for it, sent me away with wet nails and then when I ruined one (of course)- technician was annoyed she had to fix it. I went to Lacquer to get a basic pedicure and a gel manicure. The salon is cute and doesn't smell like chemicals, so that's a bonus. There were a lot of customers getting their nails done and the place had a nice vibe. The women working there all seemed friendly. The reason I'm not giving it a great review is because of the speed and results of the service. While the lady doing my pedicure and manicure was super nice, the actual process went very slowly. I was in the salon for almost two hours for the basic pedi and gel mani. The basic pedi was nice, and they used a great scrub on my feet and calves, but it took a rather long time to get everything set up for the pedicure. I sat in the chair at least ten minutes before we started, after I waited fifteen minutes for the lady doing my service to finish someone else's, on top of having gotten to the salon ten minutes early so that I could pick colors. The pedicure looks great, and I wouldn't rate the salon at only 3/5 stars just for speed, because I wasn't in a hurry and didn't tell them that I needed to have it all done quickly. The 3/5 stars is just because of the quality of my gel manicure. When the girl shaped my nails, several were crooked and off-center, and I had to ask her to re-shape them. I got French tips, and when she put them on my first hand the white strip was extremely thick, almost halfway down my nail. I asked her to narrow the strip, and after she did it looked okay, though I realized later that the tips only looked narrow in comparison to how they were originally. They are still much thicker than normal French tips. The process of shaping the white tips took a very, very long time. I've had it done much more quickly in other places; the girl told me she was having an off day with her speed. In the end, I thought my nails looked pretty, but didn't love them. Worse, my nails started to get microchips at the edges within 24 hours. About 5 days later, one of my nails has gotten a huge tear in the gel and most of the tip has pulled off. The other few times I've had gel manicures done at other places, I had no issues in chipping for at least 2 weeks, and each lasted for 3 weeks before I decided to take off the polish. Now, I'm going to have to take off this gel polish from Lacquer in less than a week. For a $45 French tip gel manicure, I would really have hoped that they lasted for much longer. read more

I went to Lacquer for the first time a couple weeks ago to get a gel manicure and it was easily the best manicure I have ever gotten. With my job my gel manicure never makes it past two weeks but I am now going on three. I usually never spend money on my nails due to this but I will definitely be going back to lacquer. Had my first experience at Lacquer yesterday, loved every minute. I was offered refreshments as I was waiting for my manicurist, Emily, and was given the color samples to look at as I waited (which was great, it took me forever to pick a color). I haven't had a professional manicure in a verrryyy long time, let alone a gel manicure. I had a lot of questions about the gel vs regular polish, and Emily answered all my questions and didn't make me feel stupid for asking them! She was so sweet and so easy to talk to. The atmosphere is really wonderful - they have candles burning and Netflix going on the tv. It just feels really comfortable when you're inside - very different than any salon I've ever been in. I'm excited to go back to try out some nail art. Support your local girl gang! read more

My personal experience with other nail salons were OK (at best) and I didn't know how nice it could be. Right off the bat, when you book your appointment from the web site (Vagaro), it very thorough, informative and very easy to use. Plus it has editable appointment reminders in your profile. Every other nail salon I've been in, you immediately get knocked out by the smell. Not here, there are always burning scented candles (that smell heavenly. YOLO!) with the high ceilings to help circulate the air. Plus if the weather is nice, they'll have the doors open. You're promptly welcomed when you enter. They get you checked in and offer you a small variety of beverages and you can help your self to the large glass jars of snacks. They aren't decoration. (Although the chocolate is left out right next to a non-shaded window where it warms up and the chocolate is usually melted and hardened.) Most of the staff I've been with is friendly, I miss the other girl that was usually at the front desk. Instead of individual tables, they have two long tables where they do the manicures. It's kinda tight but, cozy -right? The pedicure chairs are seated up against a wall and are more stylish than comfortable. They do have some fax-fur throws on them, which are soft but not thick. If you're looking forward to a massage chair while you get a pedicure, sorry they don't have them. Which is fine, when I'd rather have a higher quality of service than a vibrating chair LOL! They also have a hair salon, connected to the nail salon. Which is great to have everything under one roof. Very recently, they gave me a relaxing wash and stylish trim!!! Gorgeous!!! The place has a very hip, chic, kinda an artiste look to it, I guess. It looks a bit busy but, that's what makes it so unique. Almost like a tattoo salon/parlor. Parking isn't that bad, it's not great though. The appointment site (Vagaro) lets you know where to park in that area. (Read the street signs!) I've never seen any men as clients (while I was there) but, it would be so super if I did. Being gay, I felt no bias and I wasn't bugged or felt like they were being nosy about my personal orientation. SUPER! Especially with the small talk they initiate. I actually found this place through a friend who happens to be sensitive about her nails and had recently left another place that wasn't quick to correct their mistakes or her concerns. She love-love-loves this place and wants to even buy some art that is for sale. YA! You could read their reviews on Vagaro but, there is a wider variety of honest (not perfect) reviews here on Yelp (Other reviewers who've shared a "not perfect" review, from what I read and I felt they received a harsh reply from the owner for their low rating review on Yelp and even going as far to have their not perfect reviews deleted from Vagaro appointment website/app. I believe since you can't delete these not so perfect reviews from Yelp, the reply from the owner sounds to me so heated, unprofessional, and comes off almost like blaming the customer. Who would want to talk or meet with someone who takes it beyond professional and come off sounds (to me) so confrontational-this isn't the Jerry Springer Show LOL! How about this, start by correcting/teaching and informing all your salon and nail technicians about customer service and making sure the customer is clear on all of your terms and agreements so, everyone can be on the same page about these issues. Maybe the customer won't continue to have continuing issues with their service. Their customer service isn't necessarily perfect but, there are always ways to improve or do it better ever time.) I was really impressed with Lacquer! I initially scheduled a spray tan and a set of eyelash extensions, but due to a computer error, my technician was unable to do my eyelashes. SO, I ended up just getting the spray tan, but I was not disappointed! Toria was my technician and she did an incredible job! I had never had a spray tan before and she made me feel comfortable about the whole process. She explained everything and the process was very quick and easy. I'm very impressed with how natural the spray tan looks and how well it came out. I would highly recommend this salon for a spray tan! read more

i think the people working at Lacquer are very talented, but every time I make an appointment (which is do months in advance to make sure my schedule can be known in advance) and for the past 4-5 appointments, I've gotten a last minute cancellation from the salon. i just feel like if i had an appointment at 5pm, it should be kept. their cancellation policy requires the guest to pay if they cancel last minute, but there's nothing stopping the providers from cancelling last minute. the reason i book so far in advance is to have my preferred time reserved, since i know weekends and evenings are popular. now that my appointments are canceled so last minute, i can't even go and make an appointment with another salon. read more

I have been to Lacquer 3 times now and each time I was very happy with the service! The first time I got my hair colored and cut by Kayla. I loved the style and especially the color she helped pick out. I've gotten so many compliments on the color since. The other two times I have gotten my nails done. Also really happy with the quality of how my nails turned out. I will continue to come back for future nail appointments as they have a great color selection and the mani/pedi lasts so much longer when I come here! My only suggestion is to have the massage chairs for the pedicure area. Other than that I am happy :) read more

Cute salon. Terrible services. First experience:I first went to lacquer to get my hair touched up (blonde). I saw photos on instagram and found a girl that I thought could nail it. After seeing all the great reviews and the cute photos of this salon I was sold. I switched from the hair stylist I always go to to try out this place. Lets just say my mom saw me the next day and asked if I was going red. The experience trying to rebook to get my hair corrected was horrible because the girl who messed up my hair "wasn't available" for weeks. I said that's fine I'd like a refund to go get it fixed elsewhere. Long story short, the owner made the girl stay longer one day to fit me in. I left with platinum fried hair. I decided no more hair services from lacquer. Second experience: I received an email about an eyelash lift special - sounded harmless and low maintenance. I wish I still had the photos of my lashes. The only way I can explain it is my lashes were curled so far back over themselves they made a tunnel and were hitting my lash line - I'm not an expert in this but after googling how to fix the situation I found out 1. The girl likely used way too small of a rod that caused my lashes to not subtly curl but create a barrel shape. 2. There was no quick fix unless I wanted to try to use the same chemicals on my lashes to undo what had been done, but my lashes would likely fry and break off. Let's just say hair can be fixed, wear a hat, etc. My eyelashes on the other hand took about 3 months to begin to look normal again. I will never mess with my lashes with semi permanent solution ever again. After this experience, I felt I HAD to let the manager know so this didn't happen to other clients. I didn't want anything in return, but knew I wouldn't be returning to this salon. The owner was kind enough to send me a free nail service of my choice to make up for this mishap. That leads me to: Third experience: i go in for a ~$65 pedicure (free to me not including tip). Maybe the girl knew I was a "complaining customer" or perhaps the pedicure just isn't that great and certainly not worth the money. I loved the color I chose but for some reason my polish came off within 3 days which is unheard of even for the cheap drugstore polish. read more

I wouldn't even give a one star. I had an eyebrow wax and she got me in and out within like 10 minutes, the wax was burning hot and she didn't cool it down even after I told her to. The cashier even said "oh wow that was super fast".....yes because she took off half of my eyebrows. She took off just about half of my brows. I wouldn't go here again; at least not for any waxing services. I honestly hate that girl for making me look like this. read more

I came here for the first time a couple weeks ago to get a pedi. The location is so convenient for me, and parking on the street was pretty easy, even though it was a Sunday afternoon. Upon walking in I noticed the adorable decor. This place makes you feel welcomed and relaxed immediately--which is what we want when getting any kind of salon service, right? The place is pretty big, and super super clean. The girls working there were so friendly, and seem to care about your experience. This place always has great specials every month. I had 20% off my pedi, and at the end I got a 20% off coupon for my next service! Overall I have zero complaints. I absolutely love this place! The people are suuperr friendly, they have good service and I absolutely love the art on the walls that are from local artist, and it's all for sale! My manicurist Erica, was super friendly and started some small talk, which I love because it reduces the awkward silence you can sometimes get at other salons. I'm always on the lookout for a good facial in Columbus, and this place is as good as any I've gotten. The vibe is not quite what you may be expecting, because the table is in a room right off the main area, but it was oddly cathartic to chill out to a top-40 style playlist rather than generic spa sounds.
