This place has the best seafood buffet I had in decades! The boiled shrimp and crabs were seasoned just right not too hot but a kick for sure. Fried Fish, Fried Shrimp - crispy, flavorful, not over-powering tastes. Seasonings were perfect. Onion Rings were awesome. Almost like a beer-batter. Dirty Rice. You know how sometimes the taste of a food sends you way back into your memory, for a good reason? That was this dirty rice. I haven't had dirty rice like this since my teens, and I'm 55 now. I've had dirty rice but, not like this. That rice was, I think, made with chicken gizzards and livers, maybe(?) I don't know. All I know is, IT.WAS.AWESOME!! Also, I had seen about the lousy service. My top picks on the buffet: the seafood au gratin, the crab boulettes,the red beans and rice, and the seafood pasta. I'm not a crawfish and crab from the shell eater but those that do reply they are flavorful but not seasoned like you'd have at a backyard crawfish boil. Got the boiled crawfish- excellent price and good flavor but I suspect they were reheated from an earlier boil. The hubs got fried alligator- delicious and not too chewy!- and a catfish plate. Catfish was good but the courtboullion it came with was pretty disappointing. It had on overwhelming canned tomato flavor and lacked any freshness or quality of flavor. From the moment my hubby found out that this spot was listed as one of the top 10 seafood buffets in the US, it has been on his priority list. He finally got his chance on our way to Lake Charles today. Now, I'm the first to admit that I do not get excited about buffets. I'm just really not a fan of them. There was also a good variety of other items-- fried catfish, fried shrimp, shrimp étouffée, seafood gumbo, chicken and sausage gumbo, red beans, boudin, frog legs, fried chicken, seafood pasta, veggies, salad, and more. The nice thing was that they continuously refreshed all items and kept everything neat. The adult buffet was $22.95, which is reasonable because of the access you receive. Several tables also seemed to be taking advantage of the boiled crawfish special. We ordered my daughter a cheeseburger from the menu. It took a lot longer than expected, but she raved about it. My husband and I went there Friday night and it was horrible. The Shrimp Etoufee tasted like flour. the Fried Catfish was coated with only plain FLOUR. No cornmeal, No fishfry. The dessert was apple cobbler with can apples and white box cake. I t had been 8, maybe 10 years and during all these years I couldnt remember why did we never come back here. This place does not live up to the hype. I went for the lunch buffet and was extremely disappointed. Shrimp was undercooked and the fried chicken was over cooked. I've had better Cajun food at Herbert's. Everything was practically fried. The boiled potato and corn had no flavor. The catfish was good, coleslaw bland like something I've never tasted before.
