The shrimp tacos were delicious: Big, deep-fried shrimp, cabbage and pico all shredded or cut in thoughtfully small pieces, a very-good-but-not-too-spicy aioli. Instead of corn chips, they serve fried-on-the-premises potato chips, which were tasty. Atmosphere is a little divey (clean, but tiny). You'll stand in line to order and your food will be brought to you, but you're on your own at the salsa bar, getting silverware, pulling paper towel off the roll, etc. The bathroom was clean. read more

Based on these reviews, seems as if all the Mexian food experts hail from San Diego and Los Angeles. I live here in Hood River and as a resident of the planet I also feel qualified to judge good Mexican food, but also just a good restaurant. I've been to Lake Taco a few times and each time I've left scratching my head because the experience just doesn't match up with the rave reviews. The wait times are LONG! I wouldn't go here for a work lunch unless your job gives you at least 90 mins. A coworker and I were late to work the first time we tried Lake Taco and we were given an hour and we were only coming up from Wasco St. Also, cleanliness is an issue. My wife is pregnant and paranoid about germs and food poisoning right now. Last night we had dinner, a few boring tacos, and she couldn't concentrate on her meal because she was so focused on the sticky tables and food on the floor under the table. However, the employees are really sweet. Seems like their business is doing well, but I just won't be back anytime soon. read more

Lake taco was a great little place. Las Vegas has a lot of places to eat but this little place was great food and atmosphere. Very busy so you know it's good. The burritos did have a little to much rice, but I did not order that. The tacos, beans and rice were amazing. Margarita bowls very tasty and perfect amount. Real cokes from Mexico so not fructose corn syrup a lot better taste. Sum it up when I am back in hood river will be definitely visiting this place with friends for lunch. read more

Highly enjoyed our experience. A little off the beaten path, slightly inland from downtown but a hidden gem for sure. The restaurant is a mixed sit down experience where you order from the counter but food is delivered to your table when ready. Home made corn tortillas are always a sign of quality food for me, and these did not disappoint. To top it off, homemade chorizo, homemade salsas Rojas, verde, a good beer selection on draft from the local Hood River area, what more could you ask for? But there is more: homemade potato chips! Which at first I admittedly scoffed thinking why potato chips with salsa, but I will say I was delightfully surprised. Crisp, thin, fresh made potato chips that are regularly served as the staff regularly come to check and ensure you are well stocked and smiling. While I don't want to hype this up too much, I will say the grilled fish tacos were some of the best I've had, full of flavor and good balance and quality Mahi. Like I said, highly enjoyed our experience here. You will not go wrong with the grilled fish tacos and the "K sadilla" with homemade chorizo and corn tortillas. We will be back. read more

Stopped by for the first time and the food was really good! The wait times was pretty long. Three people who ordered after us got their food before we did. They give you home made chips while you wait, the lake burrito was so good! You could easily share it with someone. Awesome Place for good authentic Mexican food. Looks like it's family runned and operated. It's somewhat of a new place in town, but much better thant "all the other mexican resturants" around HR. And the best thing is....It's cheap!!! Tacos are $2.25! Compared to $3.75 at other places. If you want awesome food and at a killer price go here! Please note that there are 2 places called "Lake Taco" this one is in Hood River Oregon. This place got good reviews (but a lot of those reviews are for the "other Lake Taco" so my wife and I decided to try it. When first pulling up to it I questioned our decision as it looks... well... oddly like a hole in the wall place. We decided to go in and try it because of their good reviews. So we went in and sat down. After awhile we realized that you need to order and pay for whatever you want at the counter then they will bring it to you when ready. So that was our bad. They don't have standard chips and salsa, they do have house made potato chips and sauce. Odd but not bad. They could use some fresh salsa instead of "sauce" like you would get on a burrito... My wife likes fish tacos so she had 2. One fried and one grilled. She said they were good. I had something (forgot what it was called) that was a hand made thicker tortilla with chicken inside, topped with sour cream and green chili sauce. It was good and flavorful. If we come back to Hood River sometime and come back to Lake Taco, we will have a better understanding of how they operate. Also, if you are really hungry, you might want to double up on the tacos as well as some of the other options as they are a bit small in portion size. It's also pretty much cooked right in front of you, if you have anymore questions. Another neat little quirk of the place is the server fresh homemade potato chips with pretty much anything. You might be saying whoa whoa where my tortilla chips? Well I think I would still prefer chips and salsa at a sit down restaurant. Lake Taco is a more like A Taco Truck hiding in a house. Lake Taco makes crazy good tacos. Our kids love them and we love them. But my favorite is their Guarache Plate. I'd never had one before but it's sort of like a open-faced burrito on a thick corn tortilla and it's just straight awesome. The first time you drive into their parking lot it feels like you may be in the wrong spot. So don't be intimidated if it feels like you're going into a driveway, it's just how the alley is shaped. I was a little apprehensive when we pulled into the parking lot. It looked like a small pink house and when we went inside, I melted from the heat right on the spot. No AC in 100 degree heat. We looked over the menu and ordered tacos, enchiladas and garnaches. The sweet man behind the counter gave us chips and pointed us to the salsa bar. We made our way out to the patio where there was a beautiful breeze. The salsas from the salsa bar were so incredible. It's a bit too expensive for what you get. Was just there a few minutes ago, bought a $10 item off the front of the menu...it was good food. Not enough of it, frankly, as you would expect from Mexican food. Generally quantity isn't lacking...but for $10 I would expect at least the usual cheap sides. Would some beans and rice be too much to ask on a $10 item at a taco shop? My heart sank when I saw the guy walk out with this little miniature to go box...I felt ripped off before I even lifted the lid when I got home. Too much money, not enough food. Authentic street tacos loaded with meat, dress them with the jalepeno sour cream and some of the home made salsa and you won't look back!
