Truly awesome, local, quality restaurant that represents small business done well. We originally stopped in here for Tacos on New Year's Day but they were closed. At first I was a little disappointed but then was happy that a family run business took the holiday off. We went back the day after and had a fantastic experience with great food. The service as excellent. Super personable people ran the place. I think one of the owners recommended the Molinas to my fiancée and it was delicious. The tacos were hearty. A neat twist was they offered us yummy scratch made potato chips. The salsa bar was also enjoyable. The outside of the building was enjoyably quirky with bright colors and set back on a lot with a great sign directing people to the location. I'm not sure where the lake is although there is a great river nearby. Anyway, we spotted this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. As we were walking up another couple was coming out. We asked "How was it?" Him: thumbs up Her: "Oh my God." So we went ahead and had lunch here...very good. The food takes a few minutes because it is made to order. The food is amazing and really hits the spot after hiking in the Columbia Gorge area! They take social distancing seriously. I went a few months ago, when masks were still mandated. I ordered at their drive through window, then parked in their parking lot. When it's ready, they brought food out to my car. It will take ~15 minutes (normal food truck times) for the fresh food to come out. :) read more

A group of our friends were in town for a wedding in Hood River and found Lake Taco after we visited Evoke next door. The staff at Lake Taco were some of the friendliest staff I have ever encountered in a restaurant and the food was incredible. Between all of us, we ordered most of the items on the menu, and everyone had great things to say about their choice. The tortillas were homemade and delicious and the margaritas were some of the best I've had. A special shout-out to Luis, who helped us out the entire time and never stopped smiling. Larger groups can be very difficult to manage but he was only accommodating. Any time someone is heading to Hood River, I will recommend Lake Taco to them!! read more

A must try! Coming back from a long hike we were hungry and decided to pop in here. So glad we did. We are in town and this was one of our favorite meals we had. Wonderful service. Wonderful food. Hard to find between 12th and 13th St but worth the hunt. Locals who have been to Mexico say this is the real thing. So ignore the (not) Mexican outdoor restaurant on down the street. This is the real thing, no airs not ambience, just excellent taste. read more

I have had 2 wonderful meals here- one on a week night and one on a Friday night. Food was delicious both times and a bit unique- interesting menu items in addition to what I usually see on menus in Mexican restaurants. Service was friendly and efficient. Burritos are to die for. And their signature chips are as well. Good salsa too. A tiny bit too expensive for us to come often.

I love finding little places like this. The food is beyond AMAZING!!! If you are in Hood River, don't take the easy way out and eat at a place that's just OK because just up the hill is Lake Taco, an authentic Mexican experience. I ordered fish tacos and a Mulita based on someone's yelp recommendation. Everything is DElish!!! My husband ordered the carne asada burrito - geez, this burrito packs one heck of a flavor punch!!! Their chips that they give you as an appetizer are outstanding! We live in sandy, OR and trust me, we will be driving the 45 minutes to come back for this food. Not only the best place for authentic Mexican in Hood River, I would say some of the best I have had in the northwest. It is the perfect hole in the wall location that locals know about. And boy do they know about it now. It keeps getting busier and busier. It is a bit cramped to eat inside, but they are going to be expanding into a side area to double the seating which will be welcome. But the best part of Lake Taco, is it is more of a take out type place. Much better alternative to fast food joints. The actual food is amazing. Brilliant tacos made with hand pressed homemade tortillas, meat sourced from natural raised sources free of the crap found in lower quality meat. The salsa bar is the perfect compliment to the joint, letting you doctor your tacos the way you want. Fresh made salsas, onion, cilantro, the works. Besides amazing tacos, their burritos, quesadillas, pambosas, garnachas, tamales... and pretty much everything else on the menu is made with their own flair and recipe that makes it so much better than most Taco joints. The best way to experience it is to simply go a few times and order various items each time. Be careful, you will get hooked. Did I mention they also make killer hand sliced and fried potato chips? They come with some of the menu items but be sure to order a side if you can. I hope Lake Taco is around for years to come because it is a special gem that deserves the success. read more

Now this is a taco! We started out with the complimentary in-house made potato chips and salsa. I followed up with a grilled fish tac and bean and rice. My husband had the chicken enchiladas with beans and rice. Fresh, amazing, drool-worthy corn tortillas on both of our entrees. My fish taco had a lightly seasoned, tangy citrus slaw on the taco. Heaven on a tortilla! My husband enchiladas were divine! The seasoning let the chicken and corn tortillas take center stage. The size was generous and one will be a late-night snack or breakfast with an egg over easy. Wash this down with a cane-sugar coke, and we had the perfect lunch. Lake Taco is by far the best Mexican food in Hood River. Yes, the food can take a little while sometimes but you can see that they are working hard- it would be one thing if it took a while and everyone was standing around but no, they are hustlin' and being friendly while doing so! I certainly can't make a bomb-ass mulita or burrito any faster so who am I to complain? No one, that's who. The burritos are massive, their salsa's are great (though I wouldn't mind some more carrots and onions in those pickles) and I can't wait for better weather so I can enjoy my lunch on their patio again. read more

Waited 35 minutes for 2 Asada Tacos and refried beans. I was there at 11:10am and they open at 11. No communication what so ever for the wait but I'm assuming they were not prepared. Food was not worth the long wait. Then for my to go food I did not get a bag in the beans dropped in the parking lot so that wait was worth nothing. Found this hole-in-the-wall spot while looking for a small quick lunch snack after hiking. So freaking good! We had asada and shrimp tacos. Both were amazing, and the free chips and salsa were so good as well. We enjoyed the sweet kitty who was greeting everyone as they entered the patio. The perfect place to stop in Hood River after a long day of sight seeing! The tacos were absolutely delicious; I had the chorizo, fish, and shrimp tacos, and I would recommend all three! I just got take out there with my family today. You order at the window, and the food is brought out to you in 10-15 minutes. This is the kind of family restaurant you want to support: Fast, friendly service, everything made fresh from scratch, and food is off the charts delicious. I had the veggie burrito, and could only eat half because it was so big. It had just the right ratio of beans, fresh veggies, rice and cheese. We will definitely be regulars here. read more

Fish tacos (grilled) taste great nicely garnished and a tasty mayo chipotle finish. No pico for me. This joint has a rocking salsa bar. Went back and order the Merena (guy said its a local fav). I found it unique and edible. Just not my style. But i wouldn't turn down a free one Small, 6 tables. A tricky spit to locate but look for some signs and you will be okay. Great food, nice people running this small quant location who offer some beers on tap & bottles and dont overlook the outdoor chilling space. In a hurry you can always call in and get tacos to go! Is there something in the water that makes these people's victuals so dad-gum tasty? I have wondered the same thing about Lake Taco's near-neighbors there in Hood River, at Juanita's Chips ahoy..... (actually, to be honest, I've wondered if they sprinkle pure uncut, undefiled crack, or pixie dust on them chips, or deep fry them in straight up oil o' Minotaur Testes or WHAT.... but doggone they're just way too steeenkin' bueno!) Back to the review at hand: Lake Taco. Their signature burritos are...... behemoth, more than a single meal for most mere mortals (and even, I daresay, quite a handful for most run of the mill Minotaurs). Their fish tacos are seriously the shiz-nit, and for some delightfully non-sequitor or other, they make their own papas fritas and include gigando bags full with every order! My favorite item on their menu though, was something I don't believe I've ever had any where else on Terra Firma. It was what they call a morena (Guera)---a gaigando mound of shaved steak'n'onions on an open faced quesadilla whose thickness was something on the order of a Salvadoran Pupusa, but about twice the diameter. Absolutely delicious and filing. Can't imagine anything in the mortal realm (or the immortal realm, for that matter, amongst the satyrs and minotaurs and sexy sexy sirens, oh my!) that could possibly make this good stuff any better, so that's good enough for 5 Yelp stars in my book, any day, easy-peasy..... Came here for dinner and thought it was just ok. I got the carne asada burrito, which was fine but I didn't think it was as flavorful (not very seasoned) as other burritos I've had elsewhere. My wife got the tacos and felt the same with hers. The prices were fair and the ambiance was just ok. But all in all, I think I'd go to a different Mexican place in the future. read more
