Uberbackener Spinat Mit Kase (baked spinach and triple cream Pierre Robert cheese casserole. Served with toasted pretzel bread)
    Jon K.

The Lakeside Grille at the Ramsey Golf and Country Club has been running specials all summer with specials from different countries. I did not go to any of them but when I read about some Oktoberfest activity it piqued my interest. The German specials are only on Thursday night in October. Apparently, they are going to change up every week. So, what you read below may not be available. We began with 2 appetizers on the specials menu. The first was Uberbackener Spinat Mit Kase (baked spinach and triple cream Pierre Robert cheese casserole. Served with toasted pretzel bread). This was probably the best thing we ate that night. When we ran out of the pretzel bread we dipped into their very good bread basket filled with homemade warm rolls and everything crunchy flat breads. The second appetizer was Blatterteig Spargel (grilled asparagus and smoked salmon in a savory puff pastry with American Sturgeon caviar hollandaise sauce) This was a very good dish too. The only problem is that they completely forgot about the salmon. Unfortunately, we didn't realize it at first. They did remove the item from the bill. Otherwise they offered no explanation and no apology. My main was the Wurst Platte (Bratwurst, Weisswurst, and Knackwurst Sausages with Homemade Sauerkraut, Whipped Potatoes and Whole Grain Mustard Cream). It was quite disappointing. I wish they had grilled the meats instead of just boiling. It makes a world of difference. I should have known better and asked for the grain mustard cream sauce on the side. A bit of brown mustard would have been much better. The red cabbage had a strange creamy texture. Unsure if it was just from the aforementioned cream sauce. Wife had the fish and chips and said they were good although slightly burnt. Service was spotty.

Horrible Service and horrible food. The worst restaurant in Ramsey. The Bar is great on a good note!

Finally! A place in my own town that I can rate 5 stars…read more Cooper's is a small pub located in Pearl River. There's street parking around the neighborhood that becomes free after 6. I suggest you head towards the houses, away from town, if you can't find a spot. I've been anxious to try this place as the pictures look solid enough and reviewers thus far seem content. My wife and I entered with plans to have beer and apps. We ended up getting Guinness, onion rings, fried calamari and the Cooper's Burger. You can't beat a 22oz Guinness for $8. The prices on their website also match what you'll see inside. Lately I find so many restaurants are charging more than they advertise online. Service was great, friendly and very attentive. I was also surprised to see how well they clean tables between customers. Spray, wipe table, wipe lamp, shakers, etc. It's totally clean for the next customer. There are only 8 or so tables in here, plus bar seating. We enjoyed some comfy seats at a high top table for two. The onion rings were great - crisp and battered nicely so they hold together. While almost a little overcooked, they were still good and better than I had at the last high end steakhouse I went to. The fried calamari was fairly priced and a good portion. It had a light crispness, though bigger pieces would've been nicer. They were mostly small, but certainly a lot of it. The accompanying marinara was good and plentiful. We got the Cooper's Burger cooked medium and it came out medium. It's a simple burger that comes with lettuce and tomato. Some red onion wouldn't been nice. They charge extra for all sorts of stuff you can get on top - fried mushrooms, fried onions, eggs, etc. It also comes with fries, which were good. Overall, it was a nice cozy time. Several middle aged couples ate here that night and a couple small groups. No loud bar crowds as they're all on central avenue. In fact, I was surprised how nice the acoustics were inside. You can hear people at your table no problem, can hear the music inside at the right level and don't hear a lot of background chatter or noise. I'd most certainly return if in the mood for pub food. And ... No credit card fee!

The food is still great. We had scallops, chorizo, brussels sprouts, and a flounder ceviche special. Everything was delicious. The ceviche in particular stood out -- fresh, well-portioned, and nicely "cooked" in lime juice. The sangria is still a highlight too. A big carafe, no ice watering it down, served with glasses full of fruit. The problem is the service. They had two servers and one bus person, and it showed. Everyone seemed to be scrambling, and it was hard to get a moment of attention to ask for anything or even be heard. Our food came out in pieces -- three items, then a long delay, then another. The last dish, calamari, never came. When I tried to tell the waiter we didn't want it anymore if it was forgotten, he didn't listen and insisted on bringing it anyway. We ended up waiting even longer, which just made the experience more frustrating. To top it off, they're now adding an operating/service fee (around 3-4%), which wasn't clearly communicated and just showed up on the bill. It's disappointing because the food is still very good, but the service issues -- and now the added fees -- are taking away from the experience. After this visit, we'll think twice before coming back.

We asked for ranch, but what came out looked and tasted like a cheesy dip (as pictured- you can literally see chunks of cheese in it). We even compared it side by side with their Caesar dressing which was same texture, just a different color. Isn't ranch supposed to be creamy? The French dip sandwich was another letdown. The roast beef was super dry, barely any pink, and the au jus sauce looked like the last bit scraped from the bottom of the pot. Very light in color when it should be a rich dark brown. One look and I knew it wouldn't taste right. Then came the burger, which was so undercooked that the blood soaked through the bottom bun (as pictured). The waitress never even asked how we wanted it cooked. Overall, I'd come back here for a drink but I'd skip the food next time.
