I came in to ship a package to South Korea. It shipped on Friday 10/24 and arrived in Korea on Wednesday 10/29 Korea time (so 10/28 in the US), which is what the manager estimated. They were very helpful with the process and it was very easy. They provided a box and packed it up for me. You do need a customs number before it can ship, which I didn't have but they held on to my box until I could get it and they filled in the rest of the information. Sending a 9lb box cost $45. This is so much cheaper and faster than if you went through USPS. Definitely come here if you're sending things to Korea, it's so efficient. There's a parking garage that is free for retail stores so there's no hassle. read more

Updating my review once again since LAKO Express has officially become my favorite shipping center in ktown. If you have anything to send to Korea, this is THE PLACE TO COME!! (They also offer other services for domestic shipments like FedEx) The prices are great and they pack everything for you, which is super convenient. I've visited other places in ktown where they charge you for shipping supplies/boxes/packaging, LAKO Express doesn't charge you and they do such a great job at packaging things so your items get to Korea safely. LAKO Express also offers inbound shipping services where you can receive packages from Korea, which I've used a couple of times in the past. Once your package arrives, they'll send you a text when it's ready for pick up. It's a lot faster than the time it usually takes for international packages to arrive in the US. (The rates have been increasing, but it's around $18-19 per kg.) I believe their packages go out every Mon, Weds, Fri so if you're in a rush, try to come on one of those days. Andy, the manager, is also the best!! He's really nice and is very hard working, he'll always greet you with a smile. Note: The Yelp check in offer only applies to outbound packages and not for pick up's. Parking: free lot in the structure (entrance on Hobart), plenty of metered parking as well. read more

I had a great first time international shipping experience at Lako Express. I dropped off my item on Thursday 11/18 afternoon, for shipping out on 11/19, got arrival confirm from recipient in Korea on 11/27 Saturday, US time. I think it took a little longer than usual since it was over Thanksgiving holiday, but within acceptable time. They have a website where you can check if your package has been registered/shipped/received, which doesn't update in real time, but at least it's there if you are shipping to someone or business who won't be able to confirm for you. I've never shipped abroad before and didn't know what to do, but this business quietly and nonchalantly just handled everything. I basically said this is what I need to ship and they had me fill out a form that includes from and to, and they make the label, provide a perfectly fit and sturdy box, and taped it (really great since I never have tape in my pocket even if they provide box). The rates were surprisingly affordable, starting at like $10/pound, and I've paid more than that to ship stuff domestically, so it just opened up the doors for me to ship more internationally. Parking is EASY, a garage attached to the business at no fee/ticket/driving around, which is awesome for quick drop off. PS. You need either customs number or ssn of recipient, which I didn't know but my recipient readily had a customs number available when I asked him so I'm guessing Korean people have this. read more

If you're shipping a package to Korea, do not go through USPS/FedEx/DHL/UPS! We have for years gone through US postal and paid $100+ for sub-10lb boxes and waited in agony for up to 2 weeks for the package to be delivered (and sometimes not delivered). We recently sent a 12lb box to family in Korea and Lako only charged us $39 - and they offer packing services and help you fill out the customs form. It arrived in 2 DAYS! Amazing. Note: you can have packages sent here from Korea as well. Have your Korea shipper send a package to the Gimpo address that Lako will provide you. It will be sent to Lako, and you'll get a text or Kakao that it arrived. Then you go to Lako and pay for the shipment when you pick up. I knew Lako from my friends (I didn't know 3 of my friends goes here) they are professional, nice, cool, OMG they always literally pack so fast and cheaper than any other post offices! Why did I always go to USPS, Fedex or UPS? If you want to send any of your packages to international, go HERE! I don't live around LA area but if I have some packages to send to internationally, I stop by here when I go to LA. I also had some stuffs to get it from Korea and they do have partner company in Korea so my friend sent the package to their address and I got it within 2-3 days! (It takes more than a week at USPS etc.) And here goes most important parts what people want to know from Yelp. Yes, it is about the service and price! I know most of "Korean" people want to get the discount haha but even though sometimes I forgot to ask or before I ask, they already gave me a discount! This place is one of many that provide "Space Available" shipping to Korea from the U.S. For those who don't know what this is, this is when unlike traditional post services (fedex, UPS, USPS) they ship product to Korea by loading shipments in extra space that is available on commercial flights already heading to Korea, which is why many of these types of delivery agencies are located in LA, where there are constant flights to Korea due to the high local population of Koreans. This mode of shipping is not only markedly cheaper than the traditional post methods, but in my experiences also quicker and more reliable. (I once had an insured first class USPS post with my prescription glasses end up in Italy somehow). I have several of these agencies located right next to my residence, but decided to come to LAKO due to their exceptional rating on Twitter. I was not disappointed. Everything about them was beyond what I could have expected. - They repackaged everything for me (My girlfriend actually mentioned how well it was packaged when she received it) - They helped advise me on how to ensure gifts wouldn't be flagged as commercial product. - They helped me to fill out the customs forms - They sent out the package immediately, shipping was fast (I went in on a Friday during lunch, my first of two packages was delivered on a Saturday. I told them that my first shipment returned to me because they required some documents so I needed a forwarder who can help me with all the documents. I found out that my products got stuck again in customs because it requires paperwork. Lako Express never notified me until I found out the difficult way. Lako Express seriously saved me so much hassle. I'm from CA but needed to ship a birthday gift from Michigan to S. Korea at the height of the holidays, New Year's AND COVID-19. No idea why I didn't plan more carefully, but here we were... Shipping from USPS/FedEx/UPS/DHL would have cost me nearly $200 for a small box that was NOT guaranteed to arrive during the typical projected time-rate due to the massive delivery backlog in the US (expected). After much researching about forwarding deliveries, I asked my friends to help me coordinate my gift from MI to Lako Express in CA's K-Town. Lo and behold, I paid $30 to get my gift shipped from MI to CA, and paid an extra $35 to get it sent from CA to another city outside Seoul. They were upfront about possible delays to the holiday season, but it still arrived there WAY faster than if I used traditional commercial services. Plus, the tracking was on point.
