It's your typical hole in the wall hidden gem: cheap, good food patronize mainly by locals. I recommend the chilaquiles with runny egg yolks and extra sour cream. I would suggest take out... The waitress sucks...... I got the Carna Asada Red Wet Burrito it was a decent size, I had bigger. It was VERY tasty.. I got HOT and boy was it hot for once...... The salsa with the chips was good.... My hubby got the Birria Green Wet Burrito I didn't like it... So for 2 Wet Burritos and 2 Horchata's it came to $17 something, which I thought was a little pricey so asked for a receipt so she wrote one out... They charged a dollar for a refill not sure if it was for the chips or the refill on the drink.. The food was steaming hot which I liked but it was soo good because they put tuns of salt because I woke up swollen in my hands and I got a headache. They didn't seat us, they had a confused look when we walked in so we went to the counter to order and she said oh you don't pay till after. I wanted a refill but she never came to our table and I needed a box she never came she past by 3 times never even looked at us so the hubby had to get up and ask for a box. There was only 1 other table with 3 people . We waited 15 minutes for the bill finally got frustrated and walked to the counter and then she rang us up..... It would of been nice if she explained we need to go without a bill to the counter to pay.. Customer Service SUCKED........ The food is amazing the beans and rice are so good. this was the 2nd time we've gone there. There are many things i want to try. I've had the carne asada dish the first time and the chile relleno/taquito dish. WOW so good. the portion are perfect. i felt satisfied the both times we have gone. they serve beer and you get an ice cold mug. and canned soda. i want to go back and try a burrito next time. the server is an absolute delight very kind and patient. Been living near this place for a decade and just recently tried it. Not disappointed. We went for breakfast on a wknd and it gets packed mid morning. We areived at 9 am and it was only us and one other diner. The machaca was made to order. Usually ot sucks at other restaurants but here I asked if they'd add a bit of salsa so it wouldn't be dry. It was delicious. Cooked with onions and peeppers. Yum! I also requested potatoes instead of rice and they happily substituted it. The coffee isn't delicious...so I order juice (fresh squeezed but pricey!) Or I order water. The menudo is pretty good too. Served to order. With hominy or without. Hominy only for me, thank you! Served with all the needed spices, chili and lime. Mmm The cocido is great as is their chicken soup. Other food items aren't bad (Mexican style shrimp cocktail is great) but I mostly order their breakfast. We love the chilaquiles, chorizo n egg, machaca, and huevos a la Mexicana. We now order to go as I only live a couple a blocks away cuz it gets crowded and I don't like to wait. I eat in the comfort of my own home watching what I want on my t.v. and not theirs. read more

I have not written a review on yelp but I felt that I just had to on this place. I went to lalo's mexican restaurant to pick up dinner on my way home from work. I had seen the great reviews so I expected delicious mexican food. I ordered a carne asada burrito and 4 carne asada tacos it came out to $16.30 which to me is pricey already. The Carne asada burrito was more like beans, rice and the cheese that I had added to it. There was very little meat in that burrito and I'm talking about just a few pieces.. The meat that it did have was tough and chewy. That was my first time there and definitely my last. read more

I am so happy to have discovered this hole in the wall although I must say, its outer appearance leaves much to be desired initially. This happened to be a place I discovered not by chance, but inevitably, by friend/local recommendation. I had a shrimp cocktail on my first visit , a quick to go order I placed for lunch... Much to my delight, it was stupendous which prompted me to pay the place a more formal dinner visit with my husband. He had the 'pescado veracuzano' - a tilapia dish with the fish smothered in a delectable tomato, onion, bell pepper red sauce served with rice and beans. I had the Chile relleno. I must attest that both were delectable. We have been back a few times because the quality of the food is just plain good. Where I do feel free to deduct a star is based upon the location, customer service (apparently they let the food speak for itself - don't expect to be delighted by wait staff), and small observations (such as the fact that they don't have fountain drinks... You must purchase each beverage separately, individually). Also, one night we showed up a full half hour before closing time only to find staff shutting down and hosing down the front before informing us that they were "closed". I wish I could give you half a star..I live right next to this place and have been there a few times.. The salsa has a good taste so that's the only reason I go there. I went there two days ago and the salsa looked off .. I tasted it and it tasted nasty and the vegetables were very mushy and warm..it was expired or old..I don't know but I'm sick as hell now and I came throwing up and having to go to the bathroom..you people need to take better care of what you are putting out there. I know people that have also been there saying that sometimes the salsa is off and them being sick days after...seriously...do you know you are supposed to refrigerate salsa and vegetables..??? Do you know not to use or sell rotten salsa.??? I'm not even the only one who's been sick and it's your responsibility to make sure what you are putting out there is actually safe and edible. You can be sued by many people..make a change and MAKE SURE WHAT YOU SELL IS SAFE TO EAT. I am and was very pissed off and I'm so sick now just for trying the rotten salsa you sold me.. Thanks I'll be in bed at least one more day. If you come here and try their salsa..do not eat it if it looks off (the colors of vegetables look off ) or if the veggies are mushy.
