What a great donut shop! I have come here once before awhile ago and today I decided to come back which I'm so glad I did! I needed to pick up some donuts for my employees and finding a place that can cater to all my staffs taste buds can be challenging however this place has so many options! I got two orders of the 'Manager Assortment' which comes with 6 classic and 6 specialty donuts which allowed us to try pretty much a lot of everything! All the donuts were delicious, soft, and fresh. The customer service is wonderful as well. One thing I wish they had was vegan options and milk alternatives otherwise, this place is perfect! read more

It's really difficult to find a decent, none the less a GOOD donut shop in Denver. Today, my husband and i stopped by around maybe....8am and we're pleasantly greeted by a woman (didn't get her name) she was the sweetest ever. She was very helpful, recommended us some of the most popular donuts, and she did noooooooot miss. The donuts were EXCELLENT. Wow, did I say wow? I tell you that normally you can learn about a place from how all the other customers talk to you or treat you when they realize it is your first time there! And as I stood there drooling another customer said that is why you have to call your order in otherwise once you get here how could you possibly choose from this incredible selection? and truer words have never been spoken. So I started out with just a donut and a coffee and then I saw the cream cheese filled pumpkin spice little round donut? I have never seen that before and now that I've eaten it I can assure you I have never tasted anything like that before. So where your big britches and bring your imagination and if it is your first time plan on spending a little bit of time here trying to figure out what it is you want. Did not expect this place to be as busy as it was at 6am, but I was definitely shown why during my visit! The woman helping us could probably tell how overwhelmed we were by the endless choices, and supplemented that with a hot, fresh, whole glazed donut sample. IT WAS AMAZING. The long john I got to-go was just as great later in the day. But...this location is pretty bomb too :) Things one must try!: apple fritters, ray's original glazed, ray's chocolate iced, and the donut holes! Called ahead to order two dozen donuts for a donut wall I was making for my gym. Kevin was super nice and made sure to put aside the donuts for pickup. They were nicer still when I called to ask if they could push back my pickup time. Easy as pie, or dough in this case. Their was slim pickings in the case when I arrived at 2pm to pick up my order. I'm glad I called ahead to get more of a variety. I love the smell of donuts shops and LaMars is no exception. It's smells sickeningly sweet. Lamar's is a good basic doughnut. They are a chain, but they do not do the thing that some places are starting to do where every doughnut is an insane flavor with cereal and candy bars stuck all over it, which is my preference. They have a lot of good, basic, solid donuts. This past time I was here picking up some to take to a potluck brunch. Even though a lot of others had brought food, these still almost all got eaten. I have to say that although it is a solid choice, it is not one of the best doughnuts I have ever had. You will have to check out future reviews to find out those secrets. Although basic donuts are relatively reasonable, the more extravagant one (manager's specials) can be quite pricey for what you would want to spend for a doughnut. I recommend sticking with cake, apple spice, crullers, fritters, your proven winners. read more

I think that the Donuts are fresh, tasty and perfectly balanced between having a homemade taste and a quick service provider. I will say that had I known that the "house blend" was going to be a weak version of coffee, I would have definitely ordered the dark/bold instead. I am guessing that most people getting coffee here want it bland/weak for this house blend to be offered. If you enjoy a cup of coffee for its richness of flavor, don't get the house blend. Let me break it down for you: Are they expensive? Yes- But worth it. Can their selection be sparse? Yes- that means they are good so get there earlier....worth it. Will you regret not buying more? Yes - buy at least a half dozen...worth it! My favorites are the lamars bar, chocolate glazed, and plain cake donut. On a recent brutally early morning I decided a sugar rush would be a perfect pick me up so I swung into Lamar's Donuts and picked up a half dozen of the treats for me, some friends, and for me later. They are clearly getting into the fall spirit as one of the offerings was pumpkin spice which went promptly into Sir Nicholas' tummy as he looooves pumpkin. I work a few doors down at Tender Touch Animal Hospital, so this place has been my savior lately. I usually grab a quick latte on the days I have time, and they are always made deliciously. The thing that really makes this place shine for me is the service, one girl in particular. I wish I knew her name but because I have no memory I do not. She has really long brown hair and is usually working the register mid-mornings. She is so friendly and amazing it really makes this place stand out as a great one to grab some coffee at before work starts! It makes the day much easier when you start it with a pleasant conversation. EDIT (some add on): I had to be at work at 7:45 one morning. In my mind, if you're not early, you're late. I got to the area at 7:30 and was like "Oh yeah, plenty of time to grab a coffee and get there ten minutes early still". I walked in and the line was all the way to the door. I looked around, most likely with panic all over my face, when the manager noticed me. He said hello and asked how I was, as he had seen me in there before. I said I was great but that I had to go as I didn't have time to brave the line and get to work my customary 10 minutes early. He said, "No, stay. I'll help." and he hopped behind the counter and started helping people so that the line was moving at double the time it was before. I got my coffee, and still made it to work early. Lamar's started out in Kansas City. They had this tiny gas station of a store off of Main Street that was notorious for their long lines. On particularly rough mornings, I would succumb to its siren song, fight the line, and get my grubby hands on an original glazed or a long john (or sometimes both). And then, one day, the worst thing EVER happened - the store shut down. They moved around the corner, but it wasn't the same. It's taken me years to get over the fact that the original shop closed its doors. Imagine my surprise while driving home from my Weight Watchers meeting in Lakewood along 6th (I only wish I was kidding), what would appear but a Lamar's. Great variety and classic glazed old fashioned was delicious. Light. Fluffy. Yum!! Also had the Cherry which was surprisingly tasty. The disappointment was the Apple fritter. It's a different style than I am used to, flatter and doughy, but what I really missed was the Apple. The flavor was mild and mine had few Apple pieces in it. Walking through the doors of LaMar's Donuts is like traveling through time; where inflation has run rampant, the dollar has crumbled, and a dozen doughnuts costs $17. What's that, you say? It's still 2013? When did donuts get so expensive? If I didn't already feel bad about my fat self by buying a dozen doughnuts, now I have to explain it to my bank account. And apparently telling someone at LaMar's to "mix it up" when getting a dozen doughnuts is like telling a bartender to "surprise me". Thanks for 8 different varieties of glazed donuts, a lot of imagination went into that selection. Had I not requested some maple bars and a jelly, I would have a dozen glazed donuts.
