Snobs. Meh wine. Cute dogs. $15 pouring fee. Our amatuer sommelier or whatever he want3ed to call him himself wanted to one-up anything and everything we had to say about wines to show off his awesome knowledge of all things californian and french. He really came off as a snob and rather than engaging with us he put us off. I lost interest because despite his show of intelligence, I didn't really find that much remarkable about their wines, especially to justify the $15 tasting fee nor entry level cost of over $30. I tend to be a bigger jammier kind of guy, this was deifnitely more rhone-esque. Earthy, leathers, pepper, balance. The dogs were cool. Really enjoyed the giant st bernard. One of the patrons had a little poodle and it was hilarious watching the big dog interact with the little dog. Gonna skip this place next time we're out. read more

Because we live in the Bay Area, we are frequent visitors to Sonoma. A different winery staff person put Lambert Bridge on a list for us to check out. Although their wine is really amazing, my review of the winery is not good. Staff - pretentious and curt. Spent his time either ignoring us or lecturing us on how much better their wine is because it's modeled after European wine making. Wine - Excellent, I really enjoyed the wine. Beautifully made. Wine Club - To big of a commitment (24 bottles) - No good entry level club to try their wines out. Tasting Fees - Not waived, even if you buy a couple of bottles. I would have absolutely bought more if he had waived the fee. Our sever told us he would go out of business if he waived the tasting fees. Don't really believe that as every other winery in Sonoma waives the fees if you buy at least one bottle. Customer service goes a long way in wine country. Lambert Bridge makes great wine, but present themselves and their brand in the poor way. I'll enjoy the bottles I purchased, but I will not be back to Lambert Bridge. read more

Lovely sleepy dogs, but the service was for the dogs! Greg Wilcox, partner to the business ignored us for about five minutes, said they were closing in 15 minutes so we could not buy a bottle and enjoy it on the grounds. Informed us the gates would close in upon us. Thirty minutes later he is pouring wine to people he obviously liked ( only four other people were there). There were people on the grounds enjoying the ambiance . The four of us left having paid $15 per person and treated with disrespect. We will never go there again. It does not matter if the wine was good or not. The experience made us ask , why are they in business? Our earlier visit was to Rodney Strong, great hospitality, Greg should go there and learn what they are doing ! read more

My initial impression of this winery was really good. Unfortunately, after being treated rudely and unprofessionally by our server, my opinion completely changed. This winery has a quaint, ski-lodge feeling to it with lit candles and wood pieces. It's impossible not to notice the 3 large dogs roaming and sprawled on the ground, begging to be petted. They have very sweet personalities and are the major highlight of this winery. Outside, they have picnic tables with umbrellas which you can wine and dine on, enjoying the picturesque scenery. So why the one star? Honestly, if I could give no stars I would. My friends and I were in a middle of a tasting when our server (an older woman) completely forgot which wine we were on. My friend reminded her that we still had 2 more wines to sample and to my surprise, instead of apologizing for her mistake, she insisted we were wrong and lying to her. In the end, she still gave us the remaining two wines, but she poured a very small amount into our wine glasses, barely a sip. What I can't understand is why it would be in the interest of a winery for employees to treat customers like that. First of all, we were paying for those wine tastings so obviously if there was a mistake, we were going to inform them. There was no incentive for us to lie about such a small amount of wine and cost-wise it doesn't make that much difference to the winery that it is worth arguing with a paying customer about. After being treated like that, of course we did not purchase any wines from them. (At the previous winery, my friend purchased 3 bottles) We just quickly paid for the tasting and left. The only thing I regret is that we didn't make a bigger issue of the situation. I still feel we are owed an apology. read more

Rudeness rules here at Lambert. No glass of wine is worth their poor service which is truly a buzzkill to your day. What a shame. Their grounds were beautiful even if contrived. I'd rather give my business to people who know how to educate and serve with courtesy. Head over to Mazzocco and Wilson instead. They have incredible grounds and you'll feel so much more comfortable and respected, *promise*. Lambert: Please advise your Chamber that you are certainly not pet-friendly and to advertise you as such per the wine road map. And after just reading others' comments on the poor/rude service, I'm surprised you couldn't get a handle on this. It's not rocket science. read more

I visited this past weekend, and was given the rudest snobbiest reception I've ever gotten at a wine tasting room, the place was not even very busy, and we were not in the 'reserve tasting area'. We left without bothering to tasting anything. Not even Opus One was that snobby and elitist. That same weekend I had joined a new wine club, bought hundreds of dollars worth of wine and happily paid $5-$15 for tastings, so it's not like they didn't have a potential customer. read more

We entered and stood in front of the clerk (who apparently is one of the managing partners) for literally five minutes and he never acknowledged our presence. Eventually another employee came over and helped us and was nice, but by that time I was extremely turned off by the terrible service. (the lady that helped us acknowledged that the guy who ignored us was "bad at multitasking" - better to keep him out of the front if he is unable to talk to more than one person at a time; I don't need the red carpet, but a "hi, someone will be with you in a moment" is nice). Off my soapbox now, decent wine although ~30% higher priced than it should be, nice dogs, terrible service. My $0.02, drive on by - plenty of other places with equal or better wine and significantly better customer service. We sought this winery out as it is listed as dog friendly. Beautiful grounds as we walked around and then headed to the tasting room. A sign outside the tasting room advises that dogs need to stay in the garden. No problem so I handed the leash to my husband as I went in to the tasting room to find out how we get service in the garden. I opened the door and a very large dog rushed out the door, and I heard a women shout 'there isn't a dog of there is there', or something like that. Before I could answer the very large white dog was attacking my 4 month old labradoddle. I was stunned. This very large dog ran out of the tasting room and over to my puppy that was on a leash, and just attacked it. My puppy screamed out in pain and the women was able to remove the very large dog. Why is this place listed as dog friendly and why would they have a dog that attacks other dogs. I assume from the way she said ' there isn't a dog out there.... That this has happened before. When I say very large dog I am talking 100+ pounds. It actually looked like a small pony. My puppy is barely 20 pounds and spent the rest of the day by my side he was so scared. I've started seeing other wineries and well, their wine is just as good but less expensive. No, no, it's not you, it's me. Fantastic location overall. Sat down in the main room with 3 friends, a beautiful large, rustic high ceiling room surrounded by barrels and good ambience. Our hostess Stephanie did a wonderful job walking us through the different wines, cheeses, and had impeccable knowledge of the history and geography around this place. Had no idea what to expect, ended up with one of the best $40/person wine-tastings I've been to. Highly recommend topping off the experience with a bottle by the fire pit. Will recommend to friends, and will definitely be coming back. read more

Lesson learned. Do your research when wine-tasting. We stumbled upon this place while looking for Pezzi King. $10 for itty-bitty tastings and they still charged us even though we bought a bottle. Hmmm...I've done a good amount of wine-tasting and this was a first. The staff were a bit snotty. One came over to make small talk with us. When my friend responded in a friendly fashion, he walked away while she was mid-sentence. Not so much as an "excuse me". This place definitely didn't convey a welcoming vibe. The two stars are because the wines were actually good and the picnic area was nice. I will not return, though, and would probably even think twice about purchasing their wines in a store. read more

The only problem with the Lambert Bridge winery is that if you put them at the beginning of a wine tour you're going to be stuck to find another winery where the wines are better, or even as good. This small, charming winery on West Dry Creek Road in northern Sonoma produces wines that I consider to be as good as anything you find in Napa. I've brought dozens of clients here over the years and they continue to be impressed. By the way I noticed some reviewers said that the staff was unfriendly. I've been there dozens of times and I noticed something odd. If people stand at the tasting bar with their backs to the door their tasting experience is not as good. Go around to the side or even the far side of the bar and you will have a better time. The Dry Creek Valley is especially blessed by weather and location because it produces both excellent Zinfandel as well as wonderful Cabernet Sauvignon, that ever popular grape. They bring the grapes in for their Chardonnay from outside the valley but my clients yesterday said that it was the first Chard they ever liked. Yet it wasn't a big buttery Chardonnay but a more sophisticated, French style wine. The wine making team is first rate. The staff is always friendly with my clients and the tasting room is comfortable in a wealthy hunting lodge style complete with fireplace. The barrel storage room is on the other side of a glass wall from the tasting bar. The site is very pretty with great picnic tables out front on the lawn under market umbrellas. If the day is a little cool this is a good place to picnic. But best of all the wines are stellar. Don't to expect to find them on any store shelf, the majority goes to the wine club and the rest is sold at the winery. I noticed yesterday that they were the featured wine at the Sundance Film Festival. Apparently Robert Redford, who has a home in Napa, is a big fan of their wines. read more

This is my absolute favorite winery anywhere! First, their wines are amazing. The wine making at Lambert Bridge takes things to the next level. They totally integrate their grape growing with their wine making to present delicious reds with a big but balanced structure. Because the wines are so balanced, they are deliciously drinkable when released but also age very well. And I love their homage to old-world wine styles: subtle, complex and often with earthy notes. None of the overly jammy, ridiculously fruit forward wines that are so common in California. I will say that their wines are on the pricy side. But that is the direct result of their low yield grape growing. This leads to the concentrated juice that makes the delicious wines. So for me, life is too sort to drink cheaper wines. The grounds are absolutely beautiful both inside and out. I have been to Lambert Bridge at least a dozen times over the past three years and ALWAYS find the staff warm, friendly and fun. I can't imagine how a few Yelp reviewers have had poor experiences here. Lambert Bridge rocks! read more

Hubby loved the wine. He paid the $10 for a tasting and bought wine even though they don't credit you the cost of your tasting. I felt uncomfortable there. The first question they asked was bascially, "who are you?", "Who told you to come here?" and "Why are you here?" I went outside because i felt so unwelcome. And yes, it was outof the way. We had scheduled a food and wine pairing at Lambert Bridge based on the reviews. It didn't disappoint. When we arrived, the tasting room was fairly full and noisy. People were having a good time. It took a couple of minutes to find out the pairing was in the Redwood Barrel Room. We went through the door and once it closed, the noise level dropped considerably. We were led to our waiting table with the customized menu for the day. Our wine educator came over and gave us a little speech about the winery and wines and then poured a glass of Chardonnay. What I liked was that he didn't hover over us, but still kept an eye on the table. When we ready for the next glass, he would appear, pour, tell us about the wine, and then move away. The food paired well with the wines. We spent about an hour and half altogether, enjoying the ambiance and revisited the cab for a second taste. This was my first visit to Lambert Bridge and I must say my experience was mixed. The first guy that talked to us came off as stuck up, plain and simple. Had my experience ended there I would have likely wanted to leave instead of going through their tasting menu. In came Shelby, their membership coordinator, to the rescue. Shelby walked us through the tasting menu and was very helpful. I enjoyed their wines, their reds are big and bold, full of flavor, but they are pricey. Perhaps the best part of the visit was the winery dogs, Gus and Bernie. I love dogs, and these two were very friendly and extremely well behaved. The grounds were great, very well kept and the tasting room was very classy. Overall I think LB is a bit overpriced. I think that you can find wines that are just as good elsewhere for less. That being said I enjoyed their wines and we ended up leaving with a bottle to take home. read more

I'm so happy I decided to try them again! I had such a good time that I decided to erase my previous reviews on them, gotta love the update feature! I had 1 tasting in the main room and a flight in the reserve room where there was a NEW host who was charming/friendly and knowledgeable, he was natural as he engaged with my party and the other patrons. They're best known for their Merlot (which is very good, and I'm not the normally a Merlot fan) which are priced at $40. Even though it was a little chilly outside, the winery was very comfortable and they had a nice/warm fire going inside, I didn't want to leave! I grew up in Connecticut, so I felt disturbingly "down home" at Lambert Bridge. From the several times I went, I realized the same three things: 1) OMG DOGGIES. Sober or five wineries into a day of tasting, it makes no difference. I am going to flip my shit over the dogs, and the dogs are going to be sleepy and utterly unimpressed by my adoration. They will, however, accept it and let it happen with great patience. Since I'm probably person eight trillion and sixty of the day, I'll take it. 2) Homeboy behind the counter, I can out pretentious you three times over. So stop looking at me funny and trying to talk down to me. You may be a foot taller than I am, but I WILL get my nose further in the air. I just really don't like doing it. 3) The wine is good. I always really like the wine. At the end of the day, I don't mind whipping the ol' Fairfield County attitude in exchange for the dogs and the good wine, but when I have so much damn FUN at basically every other winery ever, I just don't feel inspired to go to the effort. I'm not about to avoid the place, though, and I think it's worth trying the wine at least once to see if it sets your palate a-flutter. read more

The mixed reviews are completely understandable. We were treated very well here, so I can't speak to anything other than our experience. Travelling with two hospitality industry peeps certainly helps. But even if you're not, still, try these wines. We were treated to a sit down personalized tasting with about 7 different wines. Andy our host was super nice and informative and gave a great tour. The dogs here are really awesome, Princess Bernadette, Wiley and Gus are super fun. So come see these beautiful four legged friends if wine isn't your thing. We wound up purchasing their Viognier, Rock Pile Zin and Cuvee. We started with a scheduled tasting and a picnic basket on Sat afternoon on their beautiful grounds. Our rental car broke down, all their staff went above and beyond to help with jumpstart King, troubleshooting with no luck. They stayed late for us and gave us a ride to where we needed to go. Truly the most amazing group of people!!! Came back the next morning for a tasting and dealing with tow truck, and again, great experience, beautiful wines. Lambert Bridge was by far my favorite find during a recent girls weekend in Healdsburg. We stopped in mid bike ride and were greeted by several large and friendly dogs and enjoyed a few tastes. It's a little on the spendier side with bottles in the $50 range and they don't waive tasting fees ($20-25 depending on what series you choose), but totally worth it. If you pack some snacks, they have a great lawn area with plenty of tables and umbrellas. Here are a few faves: Cabernet Franc - SUCH a great wine. I've been into cab francs lately and I think this one is a great blend of cab franc, cab and merlot. A well balanced wine with a slight fruity aroma. Love it. Merlot - As with most merlots I enjoy, this is a blend of merlot, cabernet sauvignon and malbec. It's a well balanced wine with a slight fruit acidity. Sauvignon Blanc - This was the first wine we tasted, and I don't know if this happened because I was hot and sweaty and wanted something cool and refreshing, but I put my fist down and declared 'I need a bottle of this in my life.' I made it happen. This Sauvignon Blanc is light, crisp and has just a hint of tropical aromas at first sniff. I want to say I smelled some nectarine? Great for a warm day. Petite Sirah - I wish I had walked away with a bottle of this deep purple wine. It smells just a little bit peppery and the tannins aren't too harsh at the finish. Two thumbs up. Maple Vineyards Zinfandel - A great blend of zin and petit sirah. Though I'm pretty sure the guy pouring our wine said it was, I didn't think it was super jammy (I'm not a jammy kind of girl). read more

This review is for the picnic grounds only; I haven't sampled their wines yet. For some reason, we seem to be near this winery when it is time to stop and have a picnic. Having tasted and purchased wine at other wineries, we just haven't been in the mood to have wine with the sandwiches we picked up in Healdsburg or at the country store not far away. (We do go inside and purchase water from them which, at $1 per bottle, is a great buy for this area.) I love the way they have landscaped their picnic area and the views. As I watch the people bicycle by me, I always say that I want to do that one day (haven't yet; however, I think it would be great on a crisp spring or fall day.) Next time we are in the area, we will start our trip closer to their winery so that we can sample and purchase (a) bottle(s) to take home with us or drink during our picnic. read more

We were really excited to visit Lambert Bridge on this trip to the Dry Creek Valley. We'd both heard and read great things about it so maybe we were expecting perfection. Perfection it was not. The staff was very friendly. The person who was pouring for us was also pouring for a couple who were club members but preferred to taste at the main bar rather than in the club room. They were super chatty and friendly and granted, because they were there, she did let us taste off the pouring menu so we tried pretty much everything. While the people were nice and the grounds were lovely and the tasting room is grand, the wine was NOT worth the $40 we paid to taste it (we shared both tastings). In fact, there was only one wine that even sort of tasted good but I was not going to spend $110 on an ok wine. I thought perhaps my taste buds were off but when we walked out my date said the same things about his. Just not good. If you're looking for beautiful grounds, then this is a must stop. If you're actually looking for great wine, save your money and skip this and try one of the dozens of other wineries in the valley with more reasonable tasting fees and better wine. read more

Just returned from an awesome 2-day trip in Healdsburg. Our last winery visit was here, and it couldn't have ended on a better note. Troy, the tasting room manager, took us through the signature tasting in one of the most beautiful rooms I've ever seen (the wine was also top notch - I've been dreaming of it since I left). He was so nice and we had the best time chatting with him during our tasting. After we finished, he helped us set up our picnic at one of the tables outside and gave us some awesome suggestions for places to go in town. Sally was also so nice in helping to set up our tasting. This is the first winery I've been to where I wanted to immediately buy a bottle of everything I tasted. The wines here seem to be several notches above all the others in the Dry Creek area. I haven't seen the pretentiousness that's been reported; perhaps sometimes irreverence is mistaken for snootiness. I dunno. And Gus, the winery dog, certainly takes the edge off. I do agree, though, that $10 for a four-flight taste is pricey and the $25 reserve tasting is a bit over the top. Nonetheless, after my second visit, I left as a wine club member and with six bottles of varietal bliss. Looking forward to the special events! read more

They guy who helped us was awesome, he even hooked us up with dinner reservations for that night! I've been here 3 times, and have always been pleased. A friend of ours is a wine club member, so I'm lucky enough to enjoy the reserve tasting room (which is also free). That being said, I think the main tasting bar is just as great. We always have wonderful service, and I always appreciate the conversation that takes place. The most recent visit (yesterday), I got to meet Gus, their winery dog. He's a sweetheart and loves to greet people as they arrive. The wine from here is great, but expensive (read: out of my personal price range). I always appreciate a winery who appreciates food as well, so I like to sample their mustard and dipping sauces. The few I've purchased have been heavenly to cook/marinade with. I highly recommend trying them in conjunction with the wines. Like I say about many wineries, I want to enjoy a picnic lunch in their yard/garden. Apparently they have events, so maybe I'll make it to one of those one day. read more

A small production winery that served us exceptional wines. We particularly liked the Whites (and we are red wine drinkers) -- although the Cabernet Franc was huge hit too. I've been to hundreds of wineries from Temecula to Paso Robles to Napa. And this was the best experience I've ever had. First of all, my wife has bad osteoarthritis in her knees so Kim, the hostess, seated us in the wine tasting room. Thank God because our tasting experience lasted 3 hours. Kim allowed us to taste well over 16 wines, many not on the pouring list. At 1 1/2 - 2 ounces per pour - you do the math. It helped me feel a little better when she brought the credit card receipt! Although i know quite a bit about wine (I'm not a wine snob), I learned a lot from Kim. She was very knowledgeable about their wines, how different glasses affect the taste of wine, and how to store wine that you don't finish. A special treat was when their wine maker, Jen, stopped by to answer our questions. She talked about spending hours in the vineyards each day checking on the grapes. Since they are a small winery, she needs to keep the quality high and rejects quite a few grapes. She also talked about her recent trip to Bordeaux to work with French winemakers. She loves what she does and it shows. She was friendly and not snobbish. I'm a red wine drinker but enjoyed one of their Chardonnay's and Viognier's. Most of their reds were amazing - the cabs, Merlots, Petite Verdot and Petite Syrah didn't disappoint. And the Cuvee was incredible. Prices were a little high but these are special wines for special foods and occasions. If you want an inexpensive daily drinking wine for $8 - $15 per bottle, go to BevMo or Costco. But don't drive through the Russian River wineries and snivel because you have to spend $35 - $70 on a good bottle of wine. To summarize: 1. The wine was excellent. Some of the best I've tasted. 2. I had the best service of any winery I've visited - ever. We visited on a Monday and the tasting room wasn't busy. 3. I met with the winemaker. What a great experience. 4. Prices were a little high. We had such a wonderful time visiting Lambert Bridge Winery this past weekend. It's a gorgeous, upscale spot, and Caitie was so generous with her time--chatting with us, educating us on the wines, and giving us tips on how we could best maximize our stay in Sonoma. It really made our visit, and I hope to return to Lambert Bridge again in the future. P.S. I prefer reds, but like many others I really enjoyed the whites here. What a nice surprise. read more
