I have history with Lamill Coffee--like real history. Back in 2008, this place felt like a quiet luxury before I even had the words for it. Coming back now... it feels familiar, just with a few shifts. The lavender coffee is still beautifully made--smooth, fragrant, and intentional. They haven't lost their touch when it comes to quality. But at around $10, it definitely made me pause for a second. That said, there's still a lot to love. The food and drinks are consistently solid, and the space itself remains one of the highlights. Plenty of outdoor seating in both the front and back, and it still gives that calm, tucked-away feeling. One thing that was a bit of a bummer though-no outlets. For a place you want to sit, stay, and maybe get a little work or journaling done, that absence stands out more than I expected. Parking is manageable-street or behind the building if you catch a spot. I still have a soft spot for Lamill. It's just one of those places I come back to with a little more intention now, and still appreciate for what it is. read more

I wouldn't waste your time here when you have so many other great options in the area. Such a bummer as this was my go to spot 5 years ago. Stopped in around 8:30am and took a few minutes for anyone to acknowledge me. There was someone standing at the register and just avoided eye contact as I guess they weren't on register so instead of saying "hey someone will be with you soon" they just ignored me. Started to order but they were out of cold brew (at 8:30am...) so got an iced Americano and a pastry. They stayed consistently busy but I was able to snag a table inside. Overall feels like this place is more for the aesthetic than the actual coffee like it used to be. I will say the pastry was delicious, but for the high price point I wouldn't go back. read more

What a fall from grace! They've either just sold out or are about to. Used to be the best coffee in the world. Now they've done away with ceramic cups and only serve it in toxic to go cups, and my friend who lives right by there said he got two burned coffees in one week. When their new corporate ownership makes this once-great establishment go under, I hope someone will keep making those breakfast sandwiches somewhere better. I've been a regular here for 20+ years now, continuing to frequent them through changes in the management, covid, and countless menu changes...however it's becoming more and more a cold transactional experience one would expect from Starbucks rather than what used to be a warm and inviting neighborhood coffee shop, and that's the anthesis of what a neighborhood shop should be. Sure, the coffee is good and it's convenient, but that only goes so far... Employees are constantly being turning over instead of rewarded with raises for getting to know their customers. They've also gotten rid of ceramic cups, instead going to an all to-go paper cup model...which discourages sitting and enjoying the coffee, and instead suggests they just want you to take the order and go despite the large dining area. What really took the cake was when a new cashier misheard my order, which has been the same for I don't know how many years. I realized the mistake as she handed me my order and as what I wanted was $0.50 more, she proceeded to charge me again for the $0.50 difference. Meanwhile, another local restaurant empowers its longtime employees to comp drinks or side dishes for regulars, and there's always a line out the door. 20+ years of loyalty, ruined because current ownership learned restaurant management from a book, and has decided to treat its customers as a number, and not as the neighbors who have patronized them for decades. I'm now going next door to Botanica for my morning coffee now where they treat me as a neighbor first, and as a customer second. read more

I told the barista it was my first time there and asked for recommendations, as I was looking for an iced latte. They suggested I could have any drink made as a latte, so I went with the Vanilla Bean Latte, which they said was a popular choice. We visited during the week around lunchtime and it was very busy inside and out. We managed to find a recently vacated table, but it wasn't cleared, so it remained messy for the duration of our visit. We didn't stay long because we had other things to do. I have never been here before; only enjoying their teas at a spa that I was familiar with. I had swiped an Earl Grey from there to give to an associate, and they loved it so much that they came here to buy their own box, in addition to getting me one of my favorites, Moroccan Mint. I know this has nothing to do with the taste of the tea, but the box design is beautiful. Long overdue, I wanted to return the favor, and knew I'd have to make my way over to their shop to do so. I do not go into this neighborhood often, so I tried to map everything out prior, including checking out yelp. One thing I was immediately put off by was the fee that is added to the checks. It didn't appear as though this could have the option of being removed either. Either way, this was one of the rare times I'll just take one for the team. Parking is tricky, but I found a spot just past the light on the corner. Walking over, I encountered a tiny line, but glad I checked out photos on here as I knew exactly where to find the boxes of hot tea. Once I arrived to the front, a friendly girl greeted me and asked if I wanted anything else. Of course, I gave into a chocolate croissant since I saw it sitting there, so I might as well. Offered me a bag after ringing me up, and handed me the requested receipt. I hate to say, but the croissant was pretty darn good. Quite flaky where pieces were falling off (but if you know me, I still ate those fallen pieces). Pleasantly surprised as I checked out my receipt, there was no fee tacked onto this purchase; perhaps since it was a retail one (although the croissant was not, but it was to go?), it was just the appropriate tax charged, and that was it. I still wanted to kick myself for spending nearly $30 for those three items, but it was a trip that was worth it after all. Surprised to see so many mixed reviews about this Silverlake coffee shop. I thought it was great, and the menu featured a few very cool, unique options I knew I had to try. For this first visit, I went with their Hong Kong milk tea. Now, I was initially looking for a lower caffeine option, and it is only after I ordered that I decided to look up the caffeine content online and I saw it's actually very loaded with caffeine. But, that's on me. The actual drink itself was great. Actually, one of my favorite drinks that I tried during my trip. I will say the top is loaded with a lot of froth, but the actual tea itself is wonderful. Nicely creamy, perfect balance of sweetness, tea flavor is still strong, and just hits the spot in every way I wanted. Really recommend trying it even as a first timer like myself. read more

The line took so long, we probably waited around 30min on a Saturday at 11:00am. The staff was really nice though. They greeted us with such fun and upbeat energy, which is an amazing feat thinking about how many people he had to interact with. I ordered the spinach feta danish pastry, and then the mixed berry pop tart. Spinach feta pastry -- delicious. Yum! The pastry part was so buttery and flaky and well baked. So delicious, I would definitely get it again. The mixed berry pop tart was good... I wouldn't get it again though. I don't know. Nothing to write home about. What I was most excited about: The Ube Cream Coconut Matcha Latte -- it was okay. The matcha latte part was meh, the ube part was meh. It just didn't hit that well. I miss Porto's ube matcha. I don't know. Flavors just didn't go crazy, so yeah. It was a wonderful vibe, but I don't think I'd necessarily come back. I used to love going to Lamill every morning for several years. I would tell all my friends how amazing their drinks and food were. The ambiance was great, and it's located in such a wonderful neighborhood. The servers were friendly, and everything just felt right in the world. I'm not sure what happened over the last six months, but everything has changed. It started with the premixed matcha--after that, I stopped coming in regularly. Then I remembered they used to have some great loose-leaf teas, but again I was disappointed, receiving bitter tea leaves that were nearly undrinkable. I also remember coming in on weekends and enjoying a breakfast sandwich or avocado toast. That's gone too. Now, they only offer the same pastries over and over again--uninspired and bland. There are better cafés in this neighborhood now. I'm sad to see how far Lamill has fallen. Would not recommend. read more

Great place for a chat and a bite. First, there is some parking in the back but it's likely full. It's more of a hassle to go into the lot and get turned around and then back out onto the street so I would recommend grabbing a two hour spot on the street. All the tables and chairs were occupied inside but it was easy to find a table outside. They all had sun protection. It seems like a place people hang out and do some laptop camping. It has a good vibe so maybe they feel it and get some good work done! The food: Chicken Ceasar Salad. $19.50. First of all, I don't even like it, but my friend does and we each picked something to split. This was her choice, and you know what? It was really good! I was afraid the chicken would be dry but it wasn't. It was moist and tasty. Thumbs up! I ordered avocado toast. $15.50. It was delicious. It was a little difficult to cut. I actually would have preferred something other than a bread knife to cut it. Still, it was excellent and so was the presentation. They really prettied it up! Big yes on the avo toast! This is a great place if you want to get a feel for the Silverlake scene. If you have a friend from out of town, this would be a place where they can get a slice of LA life. Long overdue review.. I don't even think they still serve the ube matcha latte.. but when I had it it was delicious.. I also had the tomato tart.. warmed up.. and it was great too.. I usually park by the lake and just walk over.. it's never been a problem and honestly makes the visit feel even nicer.. only thing I'd love to see is a tofu or vegan food option on the menu.. would be awesome to have something savory for plant-based folks.. it's a cute spot with good drinks and food.. definitely one of those places I recommend to friends when they're in the area read more

Six months has passed and I came back to see if there were any improvements. To my surprise, the place has officially, and unfortunately gone completely downhill; definitely not what it used to be. What once felt like an elite, and comfortable place to sit down and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee, now feels like a fast-food joint/takeout-style place. I am not sure how long they are willing to serve their drinks in paper or plastic cups only, but whoever's idea was to ditch regular ceramic cups and go paper/plastic only is terrible. In addition, the food menu has cut down completely, they do not have a lot of things they used to. I understand times for businesses are currently tough and supplies are expensive with the current economy, but that should not be an excuse for getting rid of the way the drinks and foods are presented. The last time Lamill felt terrible like this was right after the pandemic, but then they got back to a little normalcy. Things were great after that, especially spring of last year, then around fall of last year I don't know why things started to go downhill. I don't know when I will come back here next, but I hope when I do things would be back to how it used to be. read more

Felt more like a trap than a café experience. I ordered three avocado toasts at LaMill. When I got to the counter, the cashier asked, "How would you like your egg?"which, in literally every context I've ever experienced, means the egg is included. No mention of it being extra. No upsell. Just a casual assumption that you'd obviously want an egg on your toast (because... who doesn't, right?). So imagine my surprise when I went to pay and found a $9 surcharge for eggs $3 extra per toast. This kind of thing drives me nuts. It's emblematic of everything I can't stand about LA coffee shop culture: the smiley, curated minimalism that disguises a quiet little ambush on your wallet. If they'd simply asked, "Would you like to add an egg for $3?" I could make an informed choice. But instead, it's phrased in a way that assumes it's part of the dish like asking how you want your toast toasted. I'm not mad about paying for good food. I'm mad about being misled. LaMille, you're too good for shady tactics like this. Either be transparent with your pricing or at least train your staff to communicate it clearly. End of the day it's the cashiers responsibility for playing along with this tactic and taking a job where the staff trains you to be a robot and not genuine which comes out of the tip in turn the owner taxes the barista on as well. Been going here for years. Overall experience great! One of the only places I've found around this area that actually froth an Iced Oat Capp. =) I've had several of their pastries , yogurt, chia parfait, breakfast Sandwich, breakfast Silverlake burrito, side bacon, Arnold Palmer and lunch sandwiches. My boyfriend and I tried the Avocado Toast and Breakfast Sandwich through Doordash, and it was one of the best Avocado Toasts and Breakfast Sandwiches I've had. The Breakfast Sandwich reminds me of a sandwich version of the Wake and Late Burrito because the potato added a perfect crunch and the eggs were fluffy. There was a perfect balance of all the ingredients. So unfortunate that the prices are high ($17 for an Avocado Toast is crazy) because otherwise this place would've gotten 5 stars from me. read more
