This diner took over the spot which used to be Charlie Brown's, the Prospecters before that and ??? before that, seems nothing can ever "stick". They totally renovated the place. It has a natural stone and wood neutral decor, very clean and inviting. A new broom sweeps clean! I have been to this diner three times since it opened. The first time was opening week and we couldnt get in, the wait was too long. The second time I came with my kids, busy but good. Last night I came with my husband. This is a very well appointed diner. They have their specials, a nice selection of salads and the typical diner fare. My husband ordered a shrimp marinara type dish and I ordered an egg salad sandwich. We both liked what we had and will be going back for more. I am a vegetarian and during the last visit, I requested that they modify one of their dishes to suit my needs and they happily obliged. We live nearby and will be coming back often. I couldn't stress more to not bother going to the Lamp Post Dinner for breakfast... It was a bad experience from beginning to end. We were not greeted quickly and then seated in a cold booth by a window facing the parking lot. The breakfast menu was not impressive, and when we asked about the sign post promoted $3.95 breakfast special we were told that it was for only two eggs and to not bother ordering it because it came alone. I ordered what was billed as egg dipped French toast special but received a half dozen or so sad looking pieces of no so hot bread with no signs of egg on them. The butter was frozen cold so they did not melt very well on the cool French toast. The wife had a short stack of pancakes with one piece of scrapple. We were given one napkin each with none on the table -- cost saving I suppose -- and the syrup were in plastic containers that were not easily opened... we worked on it as the food got colder and finally had to signal the waitress who couldn't open them either and had to go ask for help. After a while we were able to flex the container lip enough time to have the plastic break away... I don't think it was made to do that but the top did not peal off at all, so what were we to do? I only ate a couple slices of the French toast and felt like I was just stuffing dead calories in me so I wrapped up the rest... maybe the dogs will stomach them. The wife wrapped up half of hers also. The bill came and her short stack and scrapple with no coffee nor juice came to $7.00 even... too high and not the menu price. We questioned the bill with the waitress and she went off to find out -- they are not very fast there -- She returned and said that the computers were still not quite ready... they opened in September and this is mid December... they took off $1.05. When we left I didn't plan on complaining but also knew I probably would not bother returning for another meal of any sort... When the cashier asked how things were I said okay but did hesitate and I suppose my face gave me away. She asked what can they do to make it better... I started to tell her the laundry list of things but when I mentioned the wrong price on the check her eyes lit up and she didn't hear anything else at all and forgot what I told her before that. She told us that it was the waitress' first day and she hit in a bad code... she seemed to blame everything on the new waitress and was happy to write it all off. I marked the full 18%+ tip on the CC bill and went off... The cashier quickly went to the hostess, who I imagine managed or owned the diner and with a gleam in her eye told her (I'm guessing)that the waitress screwed up. Frankly I was not happy that the waitress was made to take the fall on a totally dreadful experience when we found nothing wrong with her service compared to the service of the other more seasoned staff members, even if she MAY have made an error... The food was not very good and the prices were too high in an area where there is a Friendly's and a Denny's well within a mile, as well a another couple of established diners close by... each with better food and more reasonable prices. I assume this new diner was put there for the community college that was near by as well as the two apartment complexes well within walking distance. I can't speak for their Lunches and Dinners, but I can attest that their advertised specials and quality of breakfast food left too much to be desired in my opinion... and I will not return... Maybe if they had listened to my complaints and didn't just throw the poor waitress under the bus I may have given dinner a shot, to see if that was better. __________________________________________________________________ I was very disappointed to see that my review was removed from the Recommended reviews and placed with the reviews that are not recommended... on another page that has to be sought out. I could understand it, I suppose, had not I noticed that the not recommended reviews were the ones that gave the establishment a low star rating. So I can only assume, contrary to what Yelp claims, that they weed out the reviewers and reviews that do not find the restaurant acceptable and only count the star rating of the reviewers that like this restaurant... and only put those on the front page. I will take this into consideration if I decide to consult Yelp in the future... which in light of my findings seems very unlikely. So much for fair play and honest opinions on Yelp. read more

We've been here several times and have always been pleased. Good food, great portions and friendly, quick service. Managers and owners are always circulating to check on things. Big menu, lots of choices. The salads are huge and yummy. The only thing I would like to see them change is the Hatfield products (bacon, pork roll, etc.). The only brand of pork roll that should ever be served is Taylor. Otherwise, a great diner with yummy food, and an extensive dessert selection! read more

This restaurant deserves zero stars for customer service .. I friend and I had late lunch . The food was fine but server did Not know menu . My friend was told his meal didn't come with dessert when he paid extra to include it .. Sure enough when check came the charge was on there When we went to pay check figured I would mention it and they could simply remove extra charge .simple right?? Not here.. Got third degree from 4 people and nobody seemed to know thier menu or What to do .. By this time a owners son Came along too .. He was not informed and made it like we where trying to get over .. We patronized this restaurant after hearing rave reviews from numerous friends and family. We were not disappointed. The food is good for a diner, and the specials are numerous and more than reasonable in price and value. Others we' ve taken here to eat also are very pleased with the diner and are now repeat customers too. We have eaten breakfast, lunch , and dinner here. The diner is bright, cheerful, and clean and parking is ample. We 've receive good service every time we come. We like the reward system for accumulating points for food rewards,too. read more

We decided to try this diner today and we were pleasantly suppressed by the atmosphere. It does not look like a typical diner but the food is out of this world. We had the crab cakes and they were the best I have ever had even from the more expensive restaurants down the shore. We waited approximately 10 minutes and even thought they are new the service was up to par. After we were explained that all the desserts were homemade we decided to have the pumpkin cheesecake and although my wife was on my case for eating deserts after she had a taste she ate most of it. Absolutely terrible. My family wanted to try this place because we figured it had to be good to replace Charlie Browns. It was not. We went for dinner and was told it would be a 10-15 min wait. We waited a half hour. It wouldn't have been that bad if there was a place to actually wait, but with an already filled small waiting area we were forced to awkwardly stand close to the main doorway and bathrooms. After being finally seated, it took forever for someone to take our order. The waitress must have apologized over 20 times during the course of the meal which just got annoying. She did not know the menu at all, having to look at mine to refresh what I ordered. I got the turkey, pepper paninni, it was dry. My dads meal was cold. I would literally never return to this place. It had the exact same menu as the Philly Diner, which has much better service and better food. read more

We decided to try this new diner the other night that just opened at the old Charlie Brown site. We used to go to Charlie Browns when it was opened three years ago and has been completely renovated much brighter atmosphere. After about a ten minute were seated ande ewere cheerfully treated by our waitress. The food as excellent and very reasonable in price the selection of deserts is spectacular. My husband and I ate at the Lamp Post diner for breakfast this past weekend. This is the first time we were here. The breakfast came out cold and undercooked. Bacon was soggy, eggs were extremely runny, sausage was pink inside, and the service was lacking. When we told the cashier who was a heavier set woman with reddish curly hair about the food she abruptly stated " you're the only ones who have complained." I explained that I was not complaining, but simply wanted her to know about the experience so they could take steps to correct the issues since they are a new business and invested a lot of money into making the place. She was so rude and just blew me off. Will never go back to this diner. The Melrose diner on the Black Horse Pike has better food. read more

Please understand that the food was excellent and our server was excellent but the manager was a disgrace. I have never in my life been to an establishment where the female MANAGER yells at the employees IN FRONT of customers. She was completely disrespectful and belittled her. I was beyond embarrassed for our server and felt so bad that she was upset. Even though she had tears in her eyes, she was still attentive to us and was very kind. Unfortunately, this was my first visit and will be my last. I refuse to frequent a restaurant where the staff is treated so badly. The first two times I ate there, it was good. The food was good and the service was good, in spite of the coffee not being hot for breakfast and the french toast a little harder than we like. The third and fourth time were not good at all. I don't think I'm going to go back. On my third visit, the waitress was clueless and did not know what we were ordering (a simple item, a blt and a chicken blt) even though we were pointing to it on the menu and repeated it several times. She was not familiar with the menu. We had to find someone to get something we needed because our waitress did not came back to see how everything was and was no where to be found. The fourth visit was the worst. Our waitress was no where to be found so we had to ask someone else to get something we needed. I asked one waitress for something and instead of getting it, (she was the clueless waitress from the third visit), she asked who our waitress was. We didn't know because she didn't have a name tag on. Finally someone else brings the item. I asked our waitress for water twice, including the time when I ordered my initital drink. I finally got that from her. Then she was no where to be found. She did not come back to ask if we needed anything except at the end of our meal. We ran out of drinks. She finally made an appearance and came back at the end. We asked for a box several times and the check. She didn't seem too with it with the other tables she had either. Lamp Post diner should re-evaluate their staff. Meanwhile, I saw another waitress handling her tables with ease. A manager, we think he was a manager but didn't know for sure, walked around and did not stop at our table. When we paid our bill, I told him of our experience. He asked if he stopped at our table. We told him no. He did not seem concerned. Lamp Post diner's loss. We will tell all of our friends. Some of them have already experienced the same thing. Lamp Post diner will lose a lot of business if they don't make some positive changes. It's nice having something close, but we will be patronizing other places. read more

This was my first time there. I was warned from friends that the food was just ok and the service was bad. I went with my mother in law (she had been there once) and my son. She had warned me there had been some problems. The wait was about 30 minutes, 5:45pm. We did not get out until about 8pm. The place looks nice and new, but the bathrooms are the old ones and ice cold! Our food was fair at best and the tapioca pudding was bad. Our waitress' uniform was dirty and she messed our order up constantly. We waited a long time just to get our drinks then salads. We were not finished our salads and our food was upon us. To make this a bit short, all orders were wrong. Waited over and over again as she forgot what we had asked for. The waitress was nice, but needs better training and to write things down. I must say, I think the crowds will die down and the building will be vacant soon if this continues. read more

My wife and I went to the Lamppost Diner this past tuesday for breakfast, after many recommendations from friends. Our experience was nothing short of excellent from the time we walked in to the time we left. We were greeted immediately and very pleasantly by the hostess and taken to sit right away. Our server was very prompt and very knowledgeable of the menu. My wife got the eggs and i got an omelette. Both were delicious we were very pleased. The only thing I can say that could have been better is that after we got our food, our server seemed to care less about us and more about talking amongst the other servers. Other than that we had great service. We were surprised when we got our bill at how great the prices were. The same hostess who brought us to our table also rang up our bill. My wife couldn't decide on a desert (I can't blame her after seeing all of the options) but the hostess was very helpful and patient. Overall we had a very positive dining experience at the Lamp post. Great place. We will more than likely be back! read more
