Everything you want in a diner! My husband and I visited the Lamp Post this morning. At first I was hesitant as there were a couple diners that had better reviews but we decided on this one. They did not disappoint! Our waitress was Isabelle and she was awesome. Super friendly and helpful. I had the "Freedom" Belgium waffle (comes with strawberries, blueberries and bananas) and a side order of home fries. The fruit was fresh, non of that compote nonsense. My husband had the heart healthy egg white omelette (came with home fries and toast) and a side of grits. Everything was hot and fresh. We will definitely be going back read more

Let me just start out by saying, I'm a regular. I've lost count on how many visits. I've enjoyed it all from breakfast, lunch, & dinner. I even have servers that are regulars & know us by name. It's nice. Breakfast-I have to be in a certain mood, but I either get the 2-2-2 which is 2 of eggs, meat, pancakes or french toast or my go too which is a bacon egg & cheese breakfast sandwich. Coffee is a must (also excellent) & I usually get a glass of orange juice on the side. Lunch-I don't come for lunch much, but when I do, I'm usually in the mood for a grilled cheese sandwich that usually hits the spot. I sometimes get chicken tenders & fries too. Dinner-So many delicious options! My go to is the chicken cordon bleu wrap. I get it almost every time. I've tried their burgers, their soup, & even believe it or not, chicken wings which are very good. I've never had a bad experience with this place. It's nice to have somewhere like Lamppost right around the corner. Prices are affordable too. If you're ever in the area, I highly recommend stopping in. I hate to give places such a bad review, and I want to give them a decent review, but I went with a group of about 25 people, and everyone in the group didn't like their food. Not one person in 25 thought what they had was good... Let that sink in. Now granted, I will say I'm glad for such a large group, we were able to be seated quickly, and they even gave us an entire section. But that really doesn't do enough to bump them up to 2 stars. Our waitress was very disinterested in our group. She was visibly annoyed with us, and wasn't very helpful (maybe that's just her face and her makeup?). I understand working with large groups is annoying, but our whole section was divided between 3 waiters, so she really didn't have much to manage. Not sure why serving us was such an issue. If you know me, you know I'm willing to overlook bad service if the food is legit. Sadly, the food was not legit, and it should quit (see what I did there?). To reiterate, no one in our large group liked their food. I personally got the potpie, which looked very promising when brought to the table, but once you went into it...whole 'nother story. This was a luncheon for 6 ladies. Very busy day and we were seated within 20 minutes. The server was pleasant and the food was great. Hot and delicious. Had the seafood trio and hot tea. Danish for desert. Everyone was happy with their food. And we weren't hurried out cause of the rush our. I truly appreciated that. The ambiance was nice just a regular diner setup. Opening day at the Lamp Post. We have been watching the transformation from the old run down and defunct Charlie Browns. We were immediately greeted by the greeter upon arrival and got a look at place which was very tastefully done. Nice decor, nothing too over the top and smart choice of colors. Not sure why but the greeter stood there for two minutes trying to coordinate us a seat, it was steady but about 35% full. Our waitress unfortunately was not well trained and had no knowledge of the menu. She really made no introduction or welcome just the typical "do you want a drink". I guess it is a diner after all but waitresses serving nearby tables were peppy smiling and on too of it. While ordering we asked a few basic questions and she seemed completely clueless. I was hoping since it was opening day they would be fresh out of training and knowledgable of their menu. We ordered old bay fries for an app(my girlfriends guilty pleasure). They were delivered hot, fresh, and very tasty but no cheese sauce as advertised. Again our waitress had no idea so she said she would go ask. Luckily a manager was passing through and stopped to say hello and I made him aware. He was very nice, handled the situation quickly and even removed from the bill( wasn't necessary but the gesture was gladly accepted). He also helped our clueless waitress as she delivered our food and made sure we were well off. We had their "jersey Shore" salad, which was fresh, tasty and generously portioned. This was served with a soup all for 8.95. Very good deal for the quality and portion. I ordered the chicken cutlet parm on a Kaiser roll. Again, portion and quality was fantastic and very reasonably priced. Their fries are crisp golden, and their diner coleslaw doesn't fall short of expectations. We left full and satisfied, and even if we had paid for the appetizer, everything was very reasonably priced. On our way out several employees (our waitress and a different manager/host included) were talking at the stand on the way out and didn't raise an eyebrow to us upon our departure. This is something that bothers me especially given the fact this was opening day. I do not think it's good customer service to have your back turned as your customers depart. I certainly hope customer service issues get worked out quickly because this diner has good food, good prices, a beautiful new look, and a lot of potential. I will return in a few weeks and try burgers. I wish them the best of luck but I'm giving a generous three stars, I strongly service standards need to be raised in order for this place to really make a name for itself. I went to the Lamp Post Diner today for lunch and it is amazing! I have been here a few times before and every time has been good. I must admit our server was not the best as I never got my salad and my friend and I were asked if we wanted coffee refills and we said yes please but it seemed like a half hour before we got our coffee. I ordered one of the lunch specials and I had to take some of it home as I could not finish. Aside from the service I still say it is 5 stars and the place is beautiful! read more

The hot corned beef sandwich was nicely presented, but had way too much salt. It tasted like it might have been from an industrial source--do they have thinly sliced corned beef in cans? The first time I visited the Lamp Post Diner was just a few days after they opened. There were a few small glitches like a waitress who apparently quit in the middle of her shift. The management did their best to figure out what orders she had or had not taken. The next few visits were much improved. We spoke to one of the owner/managers and he was very friendly. It's clear that they are working hard to make their new diner the best it can be. The food was quite good and their selection of desserts is expansive. Their portions are huge. I've tried sandwiches, breakfast and other menu items and haven't been disappointed. Personally, I have to give them some extra points for serving their coffee classic "diner mugs." The only negative is that they are not open 24 hours/day. I hope that they will soon move to a 24 hour schedule since that's what I expect from a true New Jersey diner. I also found the fact that there are TVs around the restaurant a little odd. Overall, this is one of the first new diners to open around here in a while and it seems to have some real potential to become a long lasting institution in the community. read more

This is really 2.5 star diner but I rounded down. If there's two things that you can really judge a diner's worth on, it's their coffee and home fries. Their coffee is decent, and two cups served me well. However, their home fries might be the the worst I've ever had. They're lucky I'm not a picky customer, because I think most people would have been livid if they'd received the uncooked, soggy mess of home fries that I did. I laughed it off since I'm not a home fries fan anyway, but seriously? Gross. I had an egg and cheese on croissant. It was good, but with only three ingredients it's hard to mess up. My boyfriend's pastrami sandwich however was lackluster, with fatty and stringy meat that had the wrong consistency for being pastrami. The fries were meh, and cold when they came out. It's a shame because this place is so nice and clean looking. Maybe I should've tried a dessert? As far as diners go this one is subpar, especially in a state as renowned for diners as Jersey. read more

Lamp post is always hit or miss. I can't count how many times I've stopped here. For a while it was the go to diner in the town but the inconsistency has made me seek other options. Even the staff is inconsistent. Sometimes you'll end up with an amazing and accommodating waiter/waitress and other times you'll get a waitress that you're afraid to ask for more water from.. Their breakfasts are something you can't go wrong with. Omelets, pancakes, waffles.. I've tried them all and cannot say a single bad thing about them. You just have to make sure they make what you ordered correct... there have been times that bacon bits or ham would show up in my meatless omelet (which is a BIG no for a vegetarian). Their dinners are diner food. You get what you're paying for. Most are ranged from 9-15$ and you definitely get a huge helping. You'll never leave this place hungry. As for the small bakery I would say don't even bother. There have been times when my sisters and I would order cake and it was beyond dry. I really enjoyed this diner, it was very clean and I loved the design and service was good. I ordered the crispy buffalo chicken wrap and it was awesome. Served with double fried French fries and all of my coworkers enjoyed their breakfast. It's a good diner and it gets 5 stars because I have nothing to complain about and have a lot to compare it too. Not a greasy feel when you walk in and the staff has good attitudes. The waitresses were all sweet and attentive. I will be back if I am ever in the area. Most wraps at diners are soggy and bland but this was crispy, the lettuce and tomato were fresh and didn't taste like they sat in a walk in fridge for a week before they made their way to my wrap. I went in at 6 a.m. I had had a long day the day before and had awaken at 4 a.m. I wasn't in the mood for breakfast, so I decided to give this place a shot. I was a little concerned when I sat down and was handed a breakfast menu. When I asked if they were only serving breakfast, the server did offer me a lunch/dinner menu. I ordered the cheesesteak "Whiz Wit." It came out hot and delicious. I am not a fan of the "starch" fries like Burger King used to have. The service was fine. The place looked cleaned. I asked if they could be moved further away since they didn't have masks. The party stated that it made no difference since they could take them off once eating. I've been fortunate enough to live within walking distance to Lamp Post for the last year. Now that I'm moving away I already miss it here. The food is always good. Plentiful and reasonably priced. The service is friendly and attentive. Some of my favorites are the gyro wrap, turkey club, blackened salmon salad, NY strip and any of their soups. Their soups are always homemade and so delicioius. I've gotten quarts of soups to go many times and it never disappoints. Plus the pricing for a quart of soup is around 6$!! Can't beat it. Came here for the first time, i recently just moved to the area and i decided to have dinner here with my roomate. I ordered the new item in the menu, the Crabmeat Friedrice with Shrimp. I was quite dissapointed with my food, the dish was all vegetables and a few spoonful of rice. They should have named the dish, "Crabmeat Stirfry with a hint of Rice" cause what i got was no friedrice. The vegetables were cut so big that it covered the whole plate hiding the so called rice in the bottom. I gave my food a One Star, but i give my server 5 Stars , it was her first week working and she did a wonderful job. Yesterday, not wanting to cook, my friend suggested we order from Lamp Post Diner because she was familiar and had in the past eaten there. I live out of town, so I was not familiar with the Lamp Post. I ordered the Crab Cakes and she ordered the Mandarin Orange Chicken and Shrimp. Having had Crab Cakes in many places up and down the East coast, these were amongst the best I have tasted. Great balance of breadcrumbs and Crab to satisfy this Crab Cake lover. And for those who think a diner can not cook good Chinese food. Think again. The Mandarin Orange Chicken and Shrimp was fantastic. The portions were large enough that we had leftovers for lunch today. And yes we had desert too. We shared the Cheesecake which was so light it was perfect on a hot day. Definitely a good choice when it comes to yummy Jersey diner food goodness. I don't get to the area as often as I'd like living in the South but I always have to find a good diner when I'm there. You just don't find places like these where I'm at. My fave is the creamed chipped beef. It may seem basic to some but you can't find it on any breakfast menu where I'm at and it was a staple growing up that I miss authentic stuff like that. Oh and those potatoes were a pretty darn good accompaniment to this. The menu here was great. So many options. The service was great as well. Our server was very helpful and personable. This is a friendly and welcoming restaurant with wonderful creative dishes expertly prepared and a changing menu with delicious daily specials. There is a feeling of community here with many local regulars and exceptional service and engaged managers. The seafood is excellent and fresh, the Chicken Pot Pie is legendary and huge, the Chicken ala King is fabulous.
