Almost every light fixture in our house has come from Lamps Plus, either this location or the one in Marin, which I prefer. Their stock ranges from elegantly simple to rampant wretched excess, so there's something for everyone's taste. This showroom is crowded so it's often difficult to get a sense of what's there. Sometimes I'll go online to see their stock individually and then seek out the ones that attract me in the showroom to see what they really look like. I have found the sales people to be helpful, although there *are* sometimes waits. They also sell bulbs, but I don't think the prices on bulbs are as good as the prices on lamps and lights. read more

Complete incompetence! Ordered 2 lamps - ETA 2 to 4 weeks Mistake #1: they somehow only ordered 1 lamp Mistake #2: when lamp arrives, nobody calls us. We only find out because we called them 4 weeks later. We are told it will take another 2 to 4 weeks for the forgotten lamp and another promise they will call us... Mistake #3: nobody calls us again, we have to call them another 4 weeks later and they don't have an update, yet it turns out the second lamp has arrived (it has now been 8 weeks) Mistake #4: nobody checks the order. We drive 60 miles round trip that Sat. only to discover it's the wrong glass! AND Mistake #5: it's even the wrong metal finish!!! Store manager (Azher) looks into the order (paperwork and computer) and can absolutely not tell us what was ordered (no trace of the specific glass or metal finish we had order). Great system they have there... He promises to re-order that Monday and that we will get a call from Odette on Monday or himself on Tuesday. He offers to reimburse sales tax for our trouble. Mistake #6: we never get a call and end up having to call them a week later (Sat.) to confirm the order was placed. Mistake #7: store manager Azher tells us they placed the re-order that Thursday (4 business days later than promised!) He claims it takes that long to place a custom order. Really??? New ETA, 4 weeks from now or 12 WEEKS AFTER ORIGINAL ORDER! At this point, we have had it. We make the trip back to the store to get our money back. Although Azher had apologized on the phone, he barely acknowledged us in the store and had his salesperson process the refund. No face to face apology, no offer of any type to try to save our future business. WILL NEVER SHOP AT THIS STORE AGAIN! read more

6/9/2013 If you like the feeling of being on a used car lot, then this is the place for you! This completely Commission environment / philosophy should have been left in the 80s. I challenge you to see if you can walk ten feet in any direction (after entering the store) without being asked and sometimes trailed by a sales person. The only reason I gave one star is because the prices are good. I don't like buying things like expensive lighting sight unseen. While there may be experienced sales people working there, I've never been helped by one. I keep getting people who have no experience, and bungle my order. On top of that, on my last visit, the store was pretty much empty and it still took forever to get help (if you could call it that). I came in here per the recommendation of a locally owned hardware store [they, btw were extremely willing to help me with recommendations-AND knew exactly what I was looking for, just didn't sell it]. I was in need of a lamp shade converter for my European lamp base purchased at World Market. I was quickly greeted and explained to the staff member what I was in search of. The guy told me he 'never heard of it' [of a European lampshade/base] and told me to 'Google a solution'. The customer service felt very dismissive and abrupt. Just about anything you could ask for when it comes to lighting!!! They carry bulbs galore, lamps (of course), some chairs or stools, and different decorative fixtures. The gentleman working the floor is doing his best to help customers. Prices can vary depending on what you want. They carry the whole line, meaning: you can walk out with a $40 desk lamp all the way to a designer $500 light fixture for the living room. I would of given them 4 stars, but the women who answered the phone while i was shopping must of had a difficult customer on the phone. She asked her to please hold, then when she had her on hold, she yelled loud enough for everyone in the store to hear that the individual on the phone was a "SPECIAL" person that needed help. A little rude, and as a customer, i didn't need to be a part of that. Only two stars due to the outburst! Customer service is the key! read more

This place is the worst. Stay outta here. On two occasions "Jackie" was just awful to deal with. Second time was a return of an online purchase with RMA in hand. After talking with the main office, having a email from them with authorizing, Jackie did everything possible to make this return impossible. First arguing it was not the same light, until my wife pointed out twice what she had to look at on the box and the email from the agent online. Then insisting we take store credit, which is not the online policy and again, not provided on the receipt. We already ordered, from Lamps Plus, replacement items. It's too bad. I came last weekend to return a pair of lamps that did not work. We waited for about 10 minutes for someone to attend to us. The managers and staff saw us standing but tended to "potential" sale consumers instead. We FINALLY got Jacqueline to help us with the returns and she was incredibly rude. She snatched the paper from my hand - proceeded to type in the information - handed back the receipt and said "you should get an email" - and just WALKED AWAY. She did not say anything to us and was only interested in getting the return transaction done so she could swoon some potential customers for a sale. Jacqueline was blatantly rude & quite frankly - uncomfortable to be around. We will not be returning. Management needs to treat all customers equally. This was a disgrace. read more

Good selection of lights, many on sale. Clearance items are not returnable, even if they were damaged prior to purchase, so in the end they're not really a deal if they don't work for you and you end up being stuck with them. I look young and I wasn't very educated on the various types of lamps so my questions seemed strange. I was greeted by a young male worker. He was very nice but a bit pushy. This tipped me off that this would be a commission based shopping experience. Later I had two experiences with two patronizing, rude condescending female workers. For a while I told people not to shop here because of the poor service I got many times. I honestly don't know if it's improved, but I suspect it's not great. I went in last week and nobody ever asked if they could help. The selection is pretty good, but not great for the things I look for, usually bath lights. In the past, the help has been unattentive and arrogant. Another complaint is that so many lights are on all the time, it's uncomfortable. I don't know why these lighting places can't use switches in the off-position or use dimmer bulbs. How about motion sensors so they're not wasting 'tricity all the time? How about timer switches? This place, unfortunately, is the only place in the area other than Home Depot to get lights since Expo/Design Center left. Ace and Orchard have a few, but the selection is an afterthought and poor. read more

Mixed feelings about this store, staff and products sold. Many of the products are not US made so the quality is below average. Most of the time when I have opened boxes the item was missing parts or are slightly damaged either from shipping or during manufacturing, who knows. Then you have to reorder, wait and pray. First the store and products. Most items, at least my items are never in house and have to be ordered. Prices are generally expensive and you can shop the net for similar items and find them at considerably less price. I have found local specialty light shops have better prices and quality lamps. Second the staff. They must be on commission and low salary as the service is spotty. Get the customer, place the order and see-ya. On to the next. The staff seems in a hurry to get to the next customer without double checking orders. Maybe this is why there are so many returns (as I noted while I was there last week waiting to return my order received wrong). More on that next. I have been in sales for over 30 years and excuses to the customer just make the customer want a refund and seek other vendors. I don't think the staff here really cares about return customer service. Management should get a clue. Of course there is no commission on returns so why bother helping the customer with enthusiasm. Local specialty lamp shops have more courteous staff. Usually the owner is on site and happy to work with the customer. Most recent shopping issue. Went in to look at office chair on Dec 30 and noticed a office chair on sale marked down to $95. Reduced several times on the sticker from original price of $299. Again, not in stock, picked up on Jan 4, opened at home only to find this was the incorrect item. Returned to store on Jan 6 to exchange and were told the item was never priced at $95. Mind you both me and my wife saw the sale tag on Sat when we picked up the chair! The sales lady was insistent the price was never $95 and to order the correct chair the price would be $199! However, as she showed us the price history on the screen, she said the last sale price in Dec was in fact $149 and she could only offer us that price! Yes the sales tag was removed from the chair. She was snappy and uncompromising. She even had the audacity to tell us her paycheck would be deducted if she sold us the item at that price. Really. If I ever shop here again, and listen here, take a picture of the sale price tag! Look, you put a sale tag on an item, you have an obligation to honor the price! There is no credibility with this staff or store. That was their mistake. We are making two additional trips and not even a offer for free shipping. Just the smug look on the salesperson's face. So we are paying nearly $60 more plus time and gas. If my 9yo was not so bent on this chair I would have headed to Office Depot, Staples or other local chair shop who appreciates our business. The customer service person I worked with was very attentive, but basically said I was too picky because nothing I liked was in stock or could be shipped within a few days. I get that I might need to make compromises, but don't blame me because you have low inventory, an ineffective supply chain, and your website search engine sucks. Ample parking in the lot out front. Service is sketchy, depends on who you get. It can be a long wait on weekends. Okay selection, lots of choices, but lacking modern floor lamps and cable lights. I wish the manager was around on Sunday to help me out. I was ready to buy a Chandelier and a very nice fan/ light combo. I talked to one lady and showed her a picture and model number that i was interested in and thats all I said. The lady then proceeded to say "ok, I will get it" I asked her if she had it on display and she continued to be pushy and say " are you gonna buy it?" Three time. This lady was pushy. I then moved forward and left that lady because of how rude she was. What a mistake! I was looking at a fan/light and this yuppy lady proceeded to tell me that Casablanca fans aren't sold at Home Depot. I found it at home depot and showed her. She told me " see we have it cheaper" I explained to her I get 10% off at home depot and their "lowest price guarantee" was not. She would not match there price and continued to back peddle when I proved her wrong. I wish someone from this company had their stuff together. They just lost some good business from me. read more

Wendi Flores who I believe is a sales professional took charge in getting our pump replaced in a beautiful patio fountain we purchase about 2 months ago. She had problems getting the pump replacement part so after several tries with her department in San Diego she recommended that we return our entire fountain and she will order us a new one. All things illumination. This place has the widest selection of lights you will ever see. They have great fan/light combs. Some are crazy looking and some are reserved yet beautiful They have almost every kind of light you want for your house. The designs are great and the staff are really really helpful if anything is wrong with your installation. Don't be overwhelmed by the selection. Everything has a price tag so you don't get shocked by the price when you see something you like! There are often sales for certain items, so check and make sure you check back often! Went here last week and was surprised at their selection of not only lamps but mirrors, clocks, decor, etc. I found the perfect bedside lamps and the woman was helpful and not pushy at all. The place was PACKED so it took a little while to be helped but the service was good. There were a lot of items on sale too (including the awesome lamps I purchased). I was sad they didn't have a better selection of floor lamps... TONS of table lamps and other lighting though. I will be back for sure! read more

We have spent thousands of dollars on lighting fixtures remodeling our home (both interior and exterior). We live in Walnut Creek and drive to the Pleasant Hill store for one reason......the customer service provided by Myra L. is second to none. Our five star rating is for Myra. Our story......About two weeks ago, the light switch housing unit on our Costa del Sol ceiling fan was damaged due to excessive pulling on the chain. We went in to Lamps Plus expecting to buy a replacement part. The sales representative who "assisted" us that day was less than helpful. In fact, she said, "we don't sell parts here and you will probably need a new fan". Not exactly what we wanted to hear after spending over $300 for this fan. With the part in hand, we tried other electrical stores without any luck. So, we waited for a day when Myra was working. Saw her today and after a few phone calls, the part has been ordered for $30.00!! It is a long story that took 2 years. We ordered 15 path lights, when they arrived several were different from the rest and had to be exchanged. No problem. We installed the lights in our garden and after a year had passed one of the bulbs burned out. In trying to remove the screws to replace the bulb, it became the screw broke. We brought it up to Ahzer and he suggested we use WD40, that didnt help, he sent out his technician, he determined that it wasnt fixable. They agreed to replace the entire 15 lights. When they arrived they had the same problem as the originals. We returned them and got a full refund within days. When I returned them, Ahzer was very easy to work with and when I was leaving he suggested that I let him know what I found online since there is no service from online retailers I might consider letting him know what I found and purchase them through him. Having had the terrible experience with the last lights, I understood the value in having a local retailer to work with and I have let him know what I would like to buy and I will purchase them through him if at all possilbe!!
