Came by the other day for a Thai massage and it was excellent, just like in Thailand! Made an appointment the day prior via text. Annie is the only therapist and her specialty is deep Thai traditional massage without oil and lots of stretching. Parking is available on the street. Upon arrival, Annie unlocked the door and had me wash my hands before going into the room. Annie provided a button up shirt along with shorts to wear while laying down on the massage table covered by disposable sheets. Massage started off with a warm towel for the feet before Annie did a very strong massage from the shoulders, back, leg, and arms, by standing on top of me! Pressure was excellent and definitely reminded me of Thailand! Annie is the best and is so knowledgeable about anatomy and physiology which every massage therapist should be (more are not!). If you are looking for a relaxing, fall asleep type massage, this is not the place. Annie will remove every tightness you have in your body, get all the knots out, and fix any problems areas you have. You don't even need to tell her what issues you have, she will find them! I just moved to the area and it's been a while since I've had a massage....like over a year overdue. Being an elite athlete, I learned the hard way on how important massage recovery therapy is because coming in for my first 60min session led to the discovery of lots of knots and tight muscles which I had to take some deep breaths as it was firmly massaged out. ‍I felt so much better in minutes and she knew where the knots were to put pressure. When you enter their front door, you do get the sense of walking into an authentic Thai massage establishment. I signed up for the 60 minute combination Thai/Swedish massage and I was lead to a private room, closed off with a curtain leading to the hallway. The room was comfortable and clean. My Thai massage therapist kneaded, elbowed, heeled my knotted and stubborn muscles into finally relaxing after almost the full hour. I'm a true believer now that muscle tension can lead to small injuries, tension headaches, and other physical ailments. I filled out an intake form , my temperature was taken and we proved to each other we were vaccinated. We continued to wear masks as it should be. Some cloth hangs from the ceiling so your masseuse can hold ropes to control the weight of their feet atop your back, legs, arms, etc. as they rock back and forth on your acupressure points. I love you, Annie. I needed a massage because my hips were tight, my legs and feet were achy after Halloween, and my back is always a mess so I found Lanna Thai via Yelp and called then texted to set up an appointment. I didn't specify any therapist because I just didn't care, I've gotten a Thai massage before and knew anything would relieve my body but luckily I got Annie. Mind you, I have a high tolerance for pain and marked 'medium' on my intake form. She is very well experienced in getting out the knots and feeling which areas need work. The best part, the cherry on top, is that she cracked my back when it was time to walk on it. That is gold in and of itself. Yes, there were moments during my 90 minute massage (which is highly recommended because I don't think 60 mins would do any justice) that I can see someone who hasn't gotten a Thai massage before or has a low tolerance, that they would yelp and say Uncle. TLDR: Annie's technique is great, but her pressure can be way too hard. I totally understand that pressure is purely a personal preference, but the 1 star is because she does not ease up even after you ask her to, instead, she yells at you. I found this attitude very disrespectful and terrible customer service. I've been to Annie a few times before the pandemic (this review is long overdue). I'd get the "office worker" massage, or whatever she calls it, where she just works on the back, neck, and shoulders. Normally I can handle really heavy pressure deep tissue massages, but during one of my sessions, she used so much pressure that I yelped out for her to go lighter. This was the only time that I remember ever yelping out like that, because the pressure was very sharp and painful. Rather than going lighter, Annie snapped back, "Because you're tight!" in an angry tone of voice, as if it was my fault for having tight muscles and that I deserve whatever amount of pressure and pain she chooses to inflict. Like another reviewer said, she never check in to see how you like the pressure, showing that she has no regard for the customer experience. I found Annie's attitude and behavior extremely rude, unprofessional, and disrespectful. She seems to think that "she knows best" and you should endure whatever style or pressure she wants to do. Snapping back in that manner was unacceptable. I would not return to this place. Only if you can handle the intensity of someone walking on you...I prefer massages that are less of rubbing skin and more targeting of the massages so the 'Traditional Thai Massage' was great. It's not likely that you'll be able to fall asleep during a session rather you'll be concentrating on your breath as the masseuse uses great force and pressure to target deep tissue areas. Before the massage they will ask you what your problem areas are but it also seemed like they were able to assess the body as they were massaging. This was my third Thai massage and by far was the toughest to handle. But in a good way!! I came in with awful IT Band pain along my thigh, hip and maybe down to my calf. I had stiffness around my shoulders too. When I tell you it hurt, it did but as soon as she released, I immediately felt relief and felt so much looser it was amazing. So for the full 90 mins, I toughen through the pain and it was 100% worth it. When I woke up the next morning I had zero IT band pain or any feeling of my IT band. Even my shoulders were so much looser and I could turn my head with ease. My goodness!! If you can handle the pain of Thai massages you should try it.
