I came here cause my usual pho spot down the street had an hour long waitlist I decided to try this spot because of the yelp reviews, which turned out to be a mistake. I waited about an hour for pho, which is wild. I came in around 7:25pm and waited about 10-15 mins to get seated. After ordering I didn't get my food until around 8:40pm. They close at 9pm so obviously I was there a little past closing time. The restaurant was pretty empty by the time I got my food, but nobody checked up on me once. Nobody stopped by to ask if I needed anything or refill my empty water cup. The servers just stood around, talking with each other and looking at their phones. My friend and I tried this restaurant for the first time this week. Lovely little restaurant - bright, welcoming staff and decor. We were greeted warmly and seated right away by the window. The menu has several delicious choices. The server shared that they are known for their Pho which we both love but were in the mood for something else. Will definitely return for Pho another day. I had the Crab Fried Rice and my friend had the Spicy Basil Chicken. Both of us were very happy with the freshness and flavors of our dish. The crab fried rice had a lovely fresh sauce which was provided on the side. I poured it over my rice and it took it to the next level! I was disappointed with my experience. The young female waitress ( I think her name is Fanny) was rude -- the moment i walked in, she already had an attitude with the way she greeted. She rolled her eyes, made me feel rushed, and came across as very unprofessional. The service overall did not feel welcoming. I also thought it was the same place as the Lantern Vietnamese Cafe that is located in the Haven city market. Maybe it is but I'm not sure. Just your typical spring roll like any other restaurant in my opinion. It didn't have a lot of noodles in it and was mostly vegetables. It came with the signature classic peanut sauce. I did not like the peanut sauce. It tasted bland and watered down. The color definitely threw me off. - 5/10 Pork Banh Mi - I requested for extra pate and mayo and it did not dissapoint! The bread was crispy on the outside but soft inside. The pork was perfectly cooked, and it was loaded with meat, vegetables, and sauce. I love Vietnamese sandwiches and OC is too far to go get some every day, so this definitely satisfy the cravings! - 8/10 Bun Bo Hue - The togo container that it came in was pretty cool. It had the soup at the bottom and a top layer on top for the noodles and meat. I wish the flavor was there, but it was okay. I ordered the pad thai, it arrived very quickly, but that wouldn't be out of the ordinary because at 12pm on a Saturday we were the only customers. The female server with the oversized lashes got offended and copped an attitude when I told her the pad thai was strange. She said "well, this is a vietnamese restaurant." But before this hostile interaction with her, a male worker refilled the tiny, half sized water glass and I took this opportunity to ask him what ingredients are in the pad thai sauce. He said he did not know, and when I asked him if he could find out, he said he "would try" to find out. He returned shortly and said the owner makes all the sauces and the cook only knew there was fish sauce in it. Clearly, there was fish sauce because that was the only discernible flavor of the pad thai. It was bright red colored, under seasoned and definitely did not contain tamarind, the main flavor profile in every pad thai across the world. I would recommend changing the name of the dish to properly describe what they are serving, which was not pad thai. I would have considered returning because the peanut sauce and spring rolls were good, but the attitude and hostility of the female worker turned it into a one time visit. read more

There's succulents, greenery, low accent lighting and gorgeous light fixtures. We came during soft opening week and they were running a pho special. I ordered the Beef Pho while my boyfriend ordered the House Fries and Chicken Wings. On our first bite, we both were in shock! The flavor of the Beef Pho was unlike any other, seriously! Lantern couldn't have opened up in a better spot. North Fontana has the Noodle House but the pho is alright. I would get pho at Haven City and am thrilled to have this one on Day Creek. The chicken and filet mignon pho are both delicious. This place has a good amount of seats and it's really nice inside. They have different specialty drinks and a few options for alcohol and desserts. I've already been a handful of times and the service is pretty good. They are definitely friendly enough. read more

the aesthetic of the restaurant is super nice, but i wouldn't come back. we came in about an hour and a half before close. we were sat in the farthest corner & given menus. I think they forgot about us even though it was not busy (3 other parties sat & they were talking behind the bar) & we had to go up to the front to ask if we could place our order after 15 minutes of waiting. walking around periodically to ask if the tables need anything would be good practice. as for the food, imo the soup to noodle ratio was off, so the broth was a bit starchy/not as clean tasting. egg rolls were amazing though read more

Coming from the SGV, I'm very picky with my bahn mi, so I had unrealistic expectations for this place. Came in and ordered the pork belly bahn mi and surprisingly it was outstanding. Pork was flavorful, just the right amount of fat and sauce. You get a umami taste with every bite. Only flaw was that they gave too little pickled vegetables, but I'll give them a pass this first time. Service was outstanding and food came out pretty quickly. Place was empty only a couple was eating when me and my husband arrived. Like 5-10 minutes later a family of 4 comes in and sits on the booth behind us and the waiter greets them and right away goes up to them to take their order, when me and my husband were their first. So they need to put a system in place to know how to take orders In order. But who am I to tell them how to do their job. Or maybe just have common courtesy. The garlic in the rice was overpowering and I don't know what rice they used but it's so small and not what I'm used to at Vietnamese places. Lantern is a new Pho restaurant located on Day Creek and Baseline (across the new Stater Brothers within the same plaza). This is actually their 2nd location, they do have one at Haven City market which I have been going to for years as well. Though this particular location is more for sit down / restaurant like whereas haven city is more of a quick fix sort of thing. The portions at this location feel larger, and the menu options are also more expansive. The ambience here is very modern and elegant. Beautifully decorated. Restrooms are very clean too (yes it matters as it shows they take hygiene seriously). Portions are overall decent and will fill you up - even on the regular size. For the Pho bowls they offer both regular size and large size bowls (a few dollars more). Lots of drink options including bubbly tea, Thai tea and more. The staff are all very attentive and happy to make recommendations, and are always interested in ensuring your experience here is satisfactory. I will definitely be coming here again! read more
