The highlight of Lantern's beef pho is their broth. It strikes a good balance of being just rich enough to enjoy. The noodles are cooked well and the meats included are adequate. I think for the price, the bowl can seem underwhelming with how much food you get. The pho is served in a small plastic bowl so it is not piping hot. Alright, KYLE, if you are reading this review, you will be pleased to know that I approve of the Fried Tofu Banh Mi!! I have never had tofu in a banh mi before, but I had to take you up on your recommendation since I have tried every other kind already. I was gonna go with my usual pork belly, but I honestly didn't miss it today! The bread was nice and soft on the inside, and it had a nice crisp outside. The only thing I didn't like was the jalapeño inside it because I'm a weenie, and I have a very low spice tolerance. BUT, I am not deducting any stars for that because Kyle delivered on customer service, and my food was ready in a reasonable amount of time. I also ordered the Spring Rolls, and they were a good portion, with the right price. Be careful not to get a napkin close to the wrapper because I had to pick mine off, lol! The peanut sauce was a bit watery, but it was still good nonetheless. The 2 rolls satisfied my craving for a healthy dish. I visited this restaurant several times over the year and always love trying a new item and/or drink. I ordered: Filet Mignon Banh Mi - The bread was perfectly crunchy and soft to eat. The meat was perfectly marinated, and I enjoyed it. Honey Peach with Crystal Boba - They gave me the wrong boba add on. I wanted to get crystal boba, but they gave me the regular boba. The regular boba made my drink soggy or mushy to drink. I didn't want to wait so I stuck with the wrong boba. It came with bits of peaches. I don't recommend adding boba to Honey Peach tea drink. Located in Haven City, you walk in and head straight to the back where they have a few seats designated just for the café. Unfortunately, the food is overpriced for the portion and quality. Both the chicken pho and the special pho were very average in flavor--nothing really stood out. There also wasn't much protein in either dish, and the broth wasn't hot enough. My eldest daughter and I came to Haven City Market to offer our patronage at some of its food vendors. One of our stops was Lantern Vietnamese Cafe. We love Vietnamese foods. It's great to have them here in Rancho Cucamonga. I ordered the Firecracker Shrimp as it is a favorite of my daughter. It came with 5 deep fried shrimps with dipping sauce and a very tiny salad. I thought the portion was a tad small for the price IMHO. Shrimp was delicious, but I wished there were at least 6 shrimps so my daughter and I could have 3 each... we had to split #5 half and half LOL. Salad could have been more plenty at least one green leaf per shrimp. Dipping sauce was tasty though. There are plenty of seating. Please note the tables have a reserved sign on them. If you didn't buy from them, please don't sit in their area. They are reserved for their customers only. Staff was okay. Service was decent. Prices are average. Overall, it was an okay experience. This was our first visit and we really enjoyed our food. We went early on a Saturday and Haven City Market wasn't too crowded yet. The lemongrass pork had a nice flavor, the veggies were nice and crisp and the bread was fresh and crunchy. The coffee was sweet and strong. We love strong coffee, but it might not be for everyone. This place has the best filet mignon pho. I love the flavor of the broth itself also. Their meat source is perfect. You get that thin cut beef that is so tender it just melts in your mouth. I've gone to other pho places and they don't match with this one. It is pricey but in my opinion worth it. Definitely a go to for sure for those pho beef lovers! The thai tea is the most memorable for being the perfect thai tea flavor and the mango green tea is also just as good. The pho broth is so good that I didnt feel the need to put much lime into it! I usually like putting lots of lime in my pho but the broth was so good that I didn't want to taint the flavor. As for the Bahn Mi, the meat was juicy and flavorful and a nice crispy baguette. My review is for my experience ordering food for take out. Their online ordering was easy- I was able to request for no jalapeños. Everything was packed and ready to go at the time promised. Vietnamese ice coffee- Coffee tasted burnt, even with all that condensed milk. I wouldn't get this again. It wasn't smooth and creamy. $6.75 Lemongrass chicken banh mi- Bread wasn't soft, and kind of hard. I didn't like that it scraped the roof of my mouth while eating it. The meat to veggie ratio was good though. I didn't get enough of the lemongrass flavor. $12.75 3 pcs of egg roll- Good flavor and the oil they fried it in tasted clean. However they didn't give me any lettuce, cilantro, cucumber or mint with it! For $8.75 for three pieces to just give the pickled radish and carrots is ridiculous. I spent over $30 and it was average at best. I was a bit disappointed cause everything was kind of lackluster. This spot is located at the back of Haven City food court in Rancho Cucamonga. Grateful for their vegan options. I had their vegan egg rolls, vegan pho, and mango sticky rice. I am a fan of their egg rolls (7.75$). The vegan pho is made out of vegetable broth. It only had four pieces of tofu in it. Cost me $14.95. Expensive for something so small. The sticky rice was hard but the mango was nice and sweet. This spot was okay. It would've been 3 stars for the small portion and expensive , but 4 stars for labeling the vegan options and having them available for someone who is vegan. Food court is located in a large lot. I opt for plain pho most times. Special if I'm feeling boujie. They just started selling Bun Bo Hue and it is soo good!!! For me, it's definitely the Bun Bo Hue in the area. My friends usually get pork belly bánh mi while I get the soup. It's one of the only places you can get a sandwich in Haven City Market. I can't eat them because I have celiac. Which is why I felt like replying to that other person's post. If you have an allergy, it's up to you to mitigate your risks. Why would you choose one of the only items on the menu with your allergen? Why would you eat it without double checking? People make mistakes sometimes. I really enjoyed how they packed my order, separating the broth from the condiments in cute to-go container. The drink itself was very tasty and right on point, so I would return for another round of their Vietnamese iced coffee (I rarely drink or don't drink coffee but just needed some strong caffeine dose today since I was on day off). However I took a star off for the Garlic Fried Rice portion which turned out a tad too oily for me. Since I was also eating the Mediterranean styled chicken pieces, I didn't try the shredded chicken pieces from this dish I ordered. FYI: I am ALLERGIC and I am adept in communicating my peanut/nut allergies in restaurants to make sure this does not happen. After taking a modest bite from the corner, my intuition told me to open the sandwich. Low and behold the revelation in my gut proved accurate - peanuts were unmistakably present. Unquestionably, I experienced an extreme state of physical distress, accompanied by severe discomfort and uncontrollable vomiting, resulting from the mere morsel I ingested. Management: I strongly recommend implementing an enhanced educational program for your employees, ensuring their comprehensive understanding of the potential implications that may arise from individuals with allergies, such as peanut allergies or any other relevant allergens. I also got a drink. Total was $21. Not bad. I love coming to the haven because of the variety. I want to try other places here. But for today, the Lantern definitely impressed me. But said it was ok with the shrimp vermicelli, they didn't like the fish sauce dip, they said it's not as good. I had their pork vermicelli noodles salad and I specifically asked if the meat is grilled. They said , "yes. " What a waste of money for my dish, the so called grilled pork didn't have an inkling of grilled taste or scent. The meat was cold , ( my husband saw me dropped my spoon down and I told him with a pouty lips " my meat is cold ") I didn't walk far, as soon we got our order we walked to the outdoor dining area to enjoy the live DJ music . First time trying this spot and having had really good and legit Vietnamese cuisine, this is OK. Got their vermicelli bun salad and the noodles were thicker than what I'm normally used to. Not used to it coming with a peanut sauce mix. Typically used to having the peanut sauce for spring rolls. The grass chicken in it tasted good though. And so did the egg roll. I love sticky rice mango and am glad they have it but it was a lot pricier than expected. At least it was sweet and in season. Friend ordered their rice plate and loved it. I walked in to Haven City Marketplace for lunch on Wednesday and felt like something light. I asked the super nice girl behind the counter which of the banh mi sandwiches I should try and she said that she's only had the vegan dishes but that the fried tofu was really good. I am not a huge tofu connoisseur but I really like salt and pepper tofu so I figured I would try it out. It's so good, I came back on Friday (2 days later) for a second round lol the tofu is thinly sliced and fried, they have the pickled julienne veggies and fresh sliced jalapeños, mixed in with a spicy, sweet sauce that is soaked into the French bread. The bread is really crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside, it's probably what adds to my texture cravings! I liked the Viet coffee but I think I will stick to the Thai tea because it's just a tiny bit sweeter. I need to come back and try some of their other dishes lol read more
