I really wanted to like this place since it's a local restaurant near my friend's house. We finished a day of ski and snowboarding and decided to order takeout. We called in an order of Chicken Parmesan and Chicken Marsala. It was ready in a timely manner. Upon opening the bag and plating it, I realized the portion sizes were HUGE. They gave us so much bread but no butter. My friend liked his Chicken Parmesan. Both dishes were served with pasta noodles and steamed vegetables (broccoli and carrots). After taking about 2 bites, I was looking at my dish carefully. I picked out a short piece of hair which I thought came from someone's beard. I disregarded and didn't want to freak out my friend. I tried to continue to eat my chicken only but then I found more and more pieces of hair. I stopped eating and pretended I wasn't hungry. It was quite disappointing. read more

This place has always been great. The food and service was great. We went there last night after a couple years. We brought our adult kids for our daughter's birthday. We were told no more than a 30 minute wait at 6:05. My wife kept checking and was told a few times that we were next. It took well over an hour until we were called. They even took a party of 20 before us and we were there before them. I guess it's who ya know? Everyone got their food except they forgot my sons. We were never asked if we wanted drinks. We never got a chance or even cared to tell our server that we were there for a birthday at that point. We left at 8:45. The time frame speaks for itself for a simple dinner. Italian food doesn't get any better than Lanza's. Very relaxed atmosphere. Only downside was the wait time for a table last night which explains the 4 instead of 5 stars. Restaurant has more booths than tables. Staff is very friendly and accommodating and continued to apologize for the wait. We brought friends with us yesterday who enjoyed the food as much as we did. I always tend to order the same thing, Chicken Picatta, so good I could lick my plate. The hubby had the Veal Parm and a side of Lumaconi which he tends to order every visit. A salad or cup of minestrone comes with the meal. Soup was delicious but barely warm. Our friends both ordered Veal Picatta with the green salad with the best dressing. Wednesday night service seemed busy, we waited 25 minutes for a party of four adults, then then we were seated in a four booth room directly behind the host counter. Not recommended. I assume it's the forgotten room, unless service is this poor in the main dining area as well. The food was just, ok. First, the table bread was dry. Second, We had to remind our server, after our entrees were served about the wine she helped us pick. If you are looking for large serving portions this is the place for you. Did I order the wrong entree? Mamas Meat sauce with sautéed mushrooms on fettuccine. The serving came as a pile of pasta enough for three and topped with enough sauce for one. I've lived in North Tahoe for years and I have eaten at Lanza's several times with friends. But I realized I had not made a yelp review. So today I craved some Spaghetti and meatballs for dinner. I arrived around 6pm and there was a15-20 minute wait but I asked to eat in the bar area and I was immediately seated. A was given a half a loaf of French bread with an ample amount of butter. The bartender took my order and the house salad with gorgonzola arrived quickly. The salad could feed two with a large amount if gorgonzola. If you enjoy gargonzola you would like the creamy fresh texture of Lanza's. After finishing the salad the Spaghetti and meatballs arrived shortly. Another very large plate. The sauce was flavorful and so were the meatballs. The plate was so large I was only able only to finish half and take home the rest for lunch tomorrow. The house chianti was an excellent pairing with the Spaghetti plate. So if you want an old school Italian restaurant experience then checkout Lanza's it's been around for over 40 years. read more

Finally, good Italian food inPlacer County. I've been to Roseville , Rocklin , Folsom, and Granite Bay. Not only was the wait 1.5 hours after the hostess told us 25 min wait, the service was awful and the food was like eating canned tomato sauce with frozen raviolis, stale bread, the most disgusting pizza i think i have ever had. The consensus of our group was "MEH." Food was mediocre and bland. Service was the worst. Our server sat down at the opposite table, took one breath, and tried to tell us everything in that one breath. Instead of enjoying the meal, it was rushed. They couldn't wait to get us out of there. The server offered to bring more bread but never did. He delivered our food, then brought leftover boxes and the check and sat on the opposite table. Wow! I think we were two bites into our food. We started going to Lanza's in the 90s before we left Truckee. Haven't been back in a LONG time but went up to the lake last night for a birthday dinner. I had such high hopes for the same awesome food. We had the Lanza's lemonade which seemed to be straight up vodka. I didn't love it but drank 2 anyway. haha. We got the fried ravioli appetizer and it was NOT good. People please. Fried ravs need to be BREADED and then friend. These were not. Then on the mains. I got the same thing I've gotten there forever, chicken piccata. My husband went with his usual, chicken parm. NOBODY does piccata like Lanza's and I've had it a LOT of places. So delicious. The bread was amazing, the salad was SO good (please, get the gorgonzola on top!). Overall, I was SO happy with our meal and the great service. read more

My friends and I were visiting Tahoe and decided to go out for a bday. We ordered the roma pizza and asked specifically for no pine nuts bc 2 of my friends are allergic. The food took forever to come out and we ended up eating the "pizza with no pine nuts"until someone came out and gave us our actual pizza. It turns out that they confused some of the pesto pizza instead, and one of my friends immediately had a reaction and got sick. They comped most of the bill, but the manager didn't seem to take it too seriously. It was very crowded and busy, but when someone has a deadly allergy it's pretty important to check. I have always liked Lanza's and go out of my way to go there while I am in Tahoe. Although my last experience was not good, the quality of the food has declined drastically. I ordered my usual, chicken Marsala, and it was awful. The chicken was a familiar taste of RockyNuggets found in the freezer section of Costco. It was so disappointing! My wife ordered the egg plant parmigiana and was satisfied. Just too bad the kitchen can't take the time to bread a fresh piece of chicken and lacks the pride of putting out a quality product. read more

We visited while on vacation in Lake Tahoe. Everything was wonderful. The place is cute inside, our booth was comfortable. Our server was attentive, helpful and efficient. The food was amazing. We loved the pizza, the chicken parmesan was out of this world. The pasta was perfectly cooked and the house sauce was like a visit to an Italian grandma's house. We had the roasted peppers and artichokes as a starter, soooo good. The salad that came with the entree was fresh and dressing really yummy, obviously house made. When we first moved to the neighborhood we ate there a good amount and it was great. In fact it was our first meal the night we moved and we were excited to have a great place next door. Then 2 years ago after a couple bad experiences we called it quits. We got the chicken Parmesan and the chicken was under cooked. The pizza had canned mushrooms thrown on top that made the pizza so soggy. Then last night we decided to give them another shot. And it happened again the chicken was so under cooked we had to recook it ourselves. The same experience 2 years apart is disappointing and the last time we will give them a chance. read more

Very dishonorable. I ordered the veal Marsala. Which should be very good. It was not. At first bite, it was somewhat bland, so I decided to squeeze one of the lemons onto the dish. Little did I know, one of the lemons on the plate was an orange. It was hard to discern the difference under the ambiance of the lighting, and I assumed the orange was a lemon. This made the dish very unpalatable, but I finished it, in order to not displease the woman who was paying for my meal. Got our waters and menus. That was the last we saw of the server. July 29th 2020 at 5:30. Table next to us was sat. Their drink orders were taken, bread given, order taken, and salads brought to the table. We set a timer for 20 minutes to see what would happen (at this pint we had waited 20-30 Minutes already) and absolutely nothing happened. We were ignored, our waters emptied, and time passed by. Our waiter looked at us many times but said and did nothing. We were dressed nicely, behaved well, were ready to spend at least 150.00 on food, not counting wine.
