Pleasantly surprised by this new Thai restaurant in the Shepherd center on Casitas Pass. The food was very fresh and tasty, extremely attentive service too. Ordered the fresh spring rolls and chicken Penang curry with brown rice. This will definitely be on my restaurant rotation. I suggest they put a sign out asap for everyone to find them! So far, so good. I always start with chicken pad thai. Very fresh, great sauce and excellent vegetables. Came with a bowl of coconut soup that was quite good as well. The food is definitely good, As with all restaurants their way of cooking is different so if you are expecting the same flavor as your regular Thai place you might be a little thrown off, however this is good it just means that you are experiencing another way of making food. My favorite was the pineapple fried rice although they make it a little different than what I'm used to. The fish dishes are great too. Service is usually nice. Wow, just wow! Haven't had Thai this good in decades. My go to restaurant that I've gone to for over 40 years has been consistently good to great. This one is 3 hours from home so sadly won't be our go to but WOW! Restaurant is small and casual. Bathroom is clean, staff is super welcoming and nice. Quantity of food is generous enough. Ordered takeaway at the restaurant and was impressed by the speed of preparation, the portion sizes and the quality. Pad Thai was great with plenty of tender chicken, flavorful and spiced Thai-style as we ordered. The papaya salad was the best I've had outside of Bangkok! There was a good combination of julienned vegetables with a nice vinaigrette. Green curry with chicken was amply sized and full of wonderful veggies like bamboo shoots, tender Japanese eggplant, and carrots. For dessert we had mango with sticky rice and quite enjoyed the sweet and salty flavors of coconut cream and sweet rice. This restaurant is a find and the staff are kind and welcoming. I have had three Fabulous meals there, but this was the first time I wasn't rushing to an appointment and had time to write about it. When I say best. I am referring to the authenticity, heavenly aroma & taste of the Thai food they prepare. When I say captivating, I am referring to the population of patrons in the restaurant. This is the first time in my 20-plus years of living in the Carpinteria vicinity that I have witnessed an amazingly diverse group of diners in a Carpinteria restaurant. From high school students fresh from athletic practice, to older couples from a variety of ethnic backgrounds, to a college student in a party of 10 celebrating her birthday Thai style. Then there was a stylish gentleman on his way home to LA who told me eating here was the only thing that made his grueling trip home bearable. There also was a steady parade of geographically diverse people picking up take-out. We only stopped in for a light bite.to wait out the early Friday evening traffic nightmare. We ordered two small dishes to share. A.small order of Tom Kah Coconut Shrimp Soup & A Small Order of Pad Thai. Although both orders were Small; however, when they arrived at the table, we thought there was a Mistake. No, these were just very generous portions. We both could have shared one dish, but they were super delicious. With Really good Thai food the aroma is just as important as the taste. These dishes had me Swooning on the aroma alone. The taste of the Cocoanut shrimp was simply divine. Taste, aroma, balance of textures in the ingredients especially the use of authentic galanga is indispensable. Everything was perfect. As a fan of Pad Thai, I can easily say this is among the best renditions of the dish I have ever had. A special treat for those of us who are foodies, is the large TV screen showing Thai chefs at work preparing wonderful dishes and clips taken in Thai food markets. I recently went this past Friday w/my sister who raved about this place since her n my brother in law go frequently when in town multiple times a year. We both ordered the curry lunch special & my sister asked if it comes with onions. She specifically said No Onions.! The said they will not put any in hers. The food came out in about 10-15 minutes & hers came with , You guessed it ONIONS!!!!!!!!!!! And alot of it!!! Omg, so she tells the young man who took our order what happened??? He took her plate & 20 minutes later after i'm almost done eating, they bring hers out . 20 minutes later !!! Then it came without the big fried wonton . My sister kindly asked excuse me , can I please get one with sweet n sour sauce. They older lady who brought it said to her , I thought you ate it already??? Omggggg, really you get her order wrong , make her wait another 20 minutes for her food again & then insult her saying Didn't you eat it already??? Wow, so much for this place. Really enjoyed our visit to Lao Thai Restaurant. It's small and cozy but bursting with flavor and excellent service. Enjoyed the drunken noodles with pork and the gorgeous flavorful seafood platter. The fish was tasty / fresh and the veggies were perfectly prepared. While I live closer to downtown, I'm happy to make the "trek" to casitas plaza, where Alin and her family are serving up great food. I love how at home they make you feel. We popped in for dinner one night after a day at the beach. We thought it maybe would be less crowded than the other Thai place in town, as it was the start of the dinner hour, and there are always lots of hungry people in the area during summertime. We were greeted with smiles and were seated right away. The menu had all of what you'd expect. We ordered an appetizer, which was tasty. Main dishes were Penang curry with chicken, yellow curry with pork, drunken noodles with chicken, and Khao Soi Laos Style soup. Everything was fresh and delicious!l; so flavorful! While there we witnessed a lot of pick up orders, so it would seem a local favorite for takeaway. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. When we asked about the wall decor, our server was happy to share about the origins, and it made for a memorable interaction that I believe we all appreciated. I came here three times during our stay in Carpinteria with my husband and my 5-year-old boy. The first time we had the Pad See Ew and Kaprow, the second time Pad Woon Sen and Curry noodles, and the last time Pad thai and Chow Mien. Two dishes were plenty for the three of us, and the food was delicious. One thing that we noticed specially in the pad thai and Pad see ew was that it was not as heavy as in other Thai restaurants. The service is just fantastic. We were treated with courtesy, and they remembered us from the previous times we came (maybe having a little boy helped). The restaurant itself is really clean, and we liked the decor and the plates in which the food came. Great place to bring your whole family. read more
