It is simply the smoothest, richest tasting Ice Cream money can buy," and I don't disagree. Although, we found our selections to be too rich. Especially the Jeff Bezos Pie. Seriously, I got the Pineapple Express, and the butter pecan was super buttery. And they did not skimp on the macadamia nuts (which alone can be pricey). But the salt on the nuts, the thick and salty caramel, and the buttery ice cream made this cupped sundae downright savory. It's not bad, but this is definitely a rich, adult experience. On the flip side, the blue ice cream in the Cookie Monster worries most adults who fear a cotton-candy or bubble-gum flavor, when, in fact, it is just colored vanilla. This cupped sundae was overly-rich because of the thick, sweet fudge. It's not bad, but your body will crave a gallon of water after all that sweetness. In short, I recommend sharing the creative ice cream concoctions not because they are so big but because they are so rich and decadent. Oh shoot! I think I've had this Lappert's bookmarked on Yelp for about 7 years now! I was still living down in San Diego when I first saw this on Yelp! I had been to the Lappert's that used to be in San Diego county (Poway) several years ago. If you haven't heard of Lappert's, it's an ice cream shop that has been in Sausalito since 1983! They're known for their Hawaiian ice cream flavors. I finally got a chance to visit this location several weeks ago. We were in Sausalito for my mom's birthday and we came here for dessert after lunch. All their flavors are great but I highly recommend their Kona Coffee or Kona Mocha Chip! Any of the ones with Macadamia Nut are also great! The only bummer is that they only allow you to try 2 flavors. It was my mom's first time and she picked out two she wanted to sample, but she didn't really like either. They were strict on the 2-flavor sample policy, so she ended up having to just settle for one of the flavors she tried. I read up on a lot of travel blogs and a lot of people recommended stopping by Lappert's if you're visiting Sausalito. We were looking forward to going here, and it ended up being our number 1 stop during our day trip. Luckily our lunch option was right next door so it was easy to head over afterwards for some dessert. The rainbow sorbet was pretty good, though a little sweet for me. They had unique flavors like princess cake (swedish princess cake in ice cream form), honeysuckle rose, Hawaiian sea salt caramel, and ube. A little taste of Hawaii is always E komo mai, or welcome as we say here on the mainland, at Lappert's Ice Cream. Located along Bridgeway in the heart of Sausalito's main business thoroughfare, Lappert's Ice Cream has been delighting ice cream lovers along the waterfront for what seems like generations as I have personally been here with friends visiting this hot tourist destination for what seems like decades now. Coming to this location of Lappert's Ice Cream seems like a right of passage, as it's centrally located and always seemingly buzzing with activity as long as they're open, which thankfully are numerous over the course of the seven days a week that they are open. It always feels like we are in Hawaii when we are at Lappert's Ice Cream, as they not only have many ice cream flavors that represent America's fiftieth state, but there are Lappert's Ice Cream locations there as well, although those Lappert's, officially called Lappert's Hawaii are a part of a different ownership group, as they are nowhere to be found on this Lappert's group's website. Whenever we go to this location of Lappert's Ice Cream, every time we either walk by or drive on Bridgeway they are packed without a doubt, and part of it clearly has to do with the layout of the store as even in these social distancing days, it's not great here. There seems to be too much open space for people to wander around and think about what they want to either taste or order, which leads to confusion on who is next in line to order. So on the day that we went to Lappert's Ice Cream for a post dinner treat, we managed to get lucky as there was a small group inside looking to order and hardly anyone eating outside on one of their convenient sidewalk table and chairs they had set up. Although the ice cream menu at Lappert's Ice Cream has some traditional flavors such as Vanilla Bean, Strawberry, Chocolate and Cookie, we came for the exotic flavors especially those that represent the Aloha State. Plus the fact that they let you sample any of their flavors is also a real perk as I immediately fell in love with one of their newest flavors which was called Kahlua Truffle, in fact it was so new that one of their employees didn't even knew that it existed when another customer asked to try it and it was right in front of our server. With the perfect mixture of sweetness and bitterness my Kahlua Truffle scoop of ice cream when served in a cup was the perfect way to end my evening, and my friends also felt in a Hawaiian kind of mood as they each ordered a scoop served in a cup of their Hawaii Sea Salt Caramel and Kauai Pie respectively. Our total bill was $16.95 before tip, which wasn't super cheap, but considering the times we are living in, the price tag was fairly expected, as the scoops we were served were of decent size plus it's important to note that they charge extra for cones no matter if it's traditional or a sugar cone, so for us, cup was the way to go. We just love coming to Lappert's Ice Cream for a fun snack, whether it's in the middle of the day or late at night. Plus the fact that they are open in what seems like three hundred sixty-five days a year is nothing short of remarkable. It is important to pick just the right time to go to Lappert's Ice Cream to get your ice cream fix satiated as they do get quite busy at almost any time of the day as lines can accumulate outside rather easily. The later you go in the day, the easier it will be to order the scoop of your ice cream dreams, such as the Mayor's Creation, which is the mayor of Sausalito's own creation which featured Espresso Ice Cream mixed with caramel and chocolate chunks, and sounded intriguing enough for me for yet another visit to Lappert's Ice Cream because nothing is more representative of the easy-going laid back sea-breeze atmosphere of Sausalito than the delightful scoops being served up at Lappert's Ice Cream. read more

This place is pretty great. They have a unique selection of flavors including one of my favorite - Cookie Monster! They also have Ube, Kona Coffee, and a couple non-dairy flavors which is nice. They also allow samples which I love because I can never choose. The only con I could think of was there wasn't really an organized approach to serving people, so they served some people out of order but overall I enjoyed the experience. Delicious! Delectable! It gets super crowded inside, but the line moves quickly. There's a sign instructing customers to form four lines behind the counter, but it didn't seem like many people saw/heeded the instructions. My family got served really quickly because we followed the line instructions. After sampling a bunch of yummy flavors, each of my family members ended up getting the Kona Coffee flavor. Strong, rich, and smooth, the Kona Coffee is a knockout. If you want to skip the line, there's another Lapperts a couple blocks away. I tried the lychee and macadamia nut flavors and quickly fell in love with both so got a double scoop of those flavors. Shared that with my family since it's hugeeee. Horchata Very creamy but extremely sweet and the flavor doesn't really taste like it. I wish it has a stronger cinnamon flavor. I got a single scoop in a cup, and right away, half of it already melted and was dripping. They are very generous with the big scoop but it was impossible to finish it with the sweetness level.
