When I lived out of state, my parents used to get pizza from the previous occupant of this place, Luciano's, whenever I visited. It was pretty good. After moving back we saw that Large Plain had taken over the business - apparently several years ago. We gave them a try the other day, and their name pretty much describes the pie. Big and boring would also work. There is nothing specifically bad about the pizza, there just isn't anything special about it. Even with toppings to spruce it up, it feels like any number of chain pizza joints. If you are close, in a hurry, and nothing else is open, this place is okay. There are much better choices in the area. That said, it's cozy inside, and very clean if you plan to eat-in. I will also add that I still need to try their Sicilian pizza since I'm having a hard time finding a really good one in the area. read more

We had brunch on a Sunday morning at Large Plain. They have an adjacent parking lot and there's an ordering counter and a small dining room with booths and tables. We ordered three dishes and they all came out very quickly. The brunch pizza was just excellent!! The other options we got were carb heavy and also delicious. My fiancé and I had a nice date night at Large Plain Pizza & Pints. We went on a Saturday around 4:30 pm. The dining room is small but there were plenty of seats available. They have a beer fridge with a great selection of local brews. I got Cinderlands Squish IPA, and he got an 11th Hour Brewing Eleven Eleven light lager. For appetizers, we got mozzarella sticks and wings. The mozz sticks were great & so was the cheese pull. I do wish there had been more sticks for the price we paid. Our server convinced us to try the Louisiana Purchase wings (gold bbq + Cajun seasoning) - she said they were her favorite and I can see why! Very unique & tasty. They have lots of wing flavors! They also have all you can eat wings on Wednesdays! Because of the namesake we had to try a cheese pizza, but we got a mini size. It was really good! We also loved the buffalo chicken pizza! The crust was perfect on both pies. The ranch on the side was really good too! I'm honestly so impressed by everything, but especially the pizza. Our server was really great and it was a nice change of pace to dine in a pizza shop rather than order takeout/delivery. My brother in law tried out Larger Plain 2 nights prior and he said it was what he considered "the stereotypical Pittsburgh pizza joint", so he suggested we eat here for lunch. The menu was limited to pizza, calzones and sandwiches. My dad and I ordered the steak calzone and my sister created her own calzone with double mushroom and meatball. My brother in law ordered an Italian sub with no onions. Calzones usually take longer so we figured the sandwich would come out first. After 15 min. all three calzones came out at once. My calzone only had ingredients sporadically inside. In fact, the first to slices did not have any steak and there was way too much raw green pepper. The sub that was supposed to have no onions came out 10 minutes afterwards. You may have guessed but the sub was also loaded with red onion. After we ate I decided to use the restroom before I drive back to NC. After washing my hands I found that the paper towels we out! They just opened and it was only 12:30 and they were out of paper towels and the restroom was not clean. This is what I get for not checking reviews when someone makes a restaurant suggestion. 3.7 stars was their average score and I think that is fairly accurate. Try Large Plain at your own peril. Had a steak calzone and breaded zucchini from Large Plain. I was really excited to try their food. What a huge disappointment. The calzone had undercooked vegetables, very little cheese and even less meat, and the meat wasn't steak!!! Not sure it was beef!!! Really disappointing when they cant properly cook their own menu. The staff making the food wasn't wearing gloves or hairnets. The zucchini was soggy and fell apart from too much oil. Sad. read more

I tried Large Plain for the first time tonight and ordered a medium plain pizza and a 6 piece order of wings with Louisiana Purchase wing sauce. We ordered over the phone and the wait time was 30 minutes. Food was ready as soon as we got there to pick it up which I appreciated. I liked the pizza - maybe not my favorite in the area but I enjoyed it. However - the wings THE WINGS. Wow I was so impressed they were really good. I definitely will be going back and want to try more wing flavors and also the Sicilian pizza! read more

Large Plain, more like Large Pain. Take a seat by the fire and let me spin you a tale of a dining experience so horrendous it is the only review I have ever left in my twenty six years of being on this earth. Allow me to paint the scene, my girlfriend and I originally set out for brunch at first watch, but due to their hour long wait we decided to get bunch at Large Plain instead. We got there at around 11:13 and ordered waters and shortly after put in for the brunch pizza, the short stack, and a standard egg bacon and homefry breakfast. So far so good, but unbeknownst to us, this brunch train was about to go off the rails. My girlfriend is a little picky about drinking from cups when she goes out to eat so she asked for a straw. This was the last time we would see our waitress. Im not sure if she was done with her shift, if she fell and got herself lodged in the toilet, or if she got on a boat in search of a better life across the sea, but wherever she was, it was not at our table. While I began crafting theories as to where she could be, four or five other tables were sat in the meantime. We were patiently waiting till 11:35 when all of a sudden a miracle happened that left me stunned and rubbing my eyes to make sure what I was seeing was not an illusion. A new waitress was taking the orders of the tables who were sat after us. Realizing the fragility of the situation I quickly asked the new waitress to bring us straws which to her credit she did promptly bring them. Alas after nearly half an hour we got our straws! Another twenty minutes or so go by and we still haven't even seen our waitress. To make matter worse three of the five tables who got sat after us had already received there food. "Thats alright" I thought to myself "surely our food was right around the corner." After a grand total of fifty minutes of waiting In a half filled restaurant the new waitress greeted our table. "Finally" I thought to myself once more, we've waited nearly an hour at this point with nothing but straws and water to show for it. However when she got to the table she was not there to serve food, but to ask a question. "What did you guys order again?" We repeated back once more what we got and she said she would figure it out. After fifteen more minutes of waiting while others who arrived after us were still getting served we had to pull the plug. Brunch at Large Plain was simply not meant to be and we got up and left without a word. TLDR; after over an hour of waiting all while others who got there after us were being served we just left, save your time AND money by going literally anywhere else. read more

Being new to the area it's kind of funky to get in to their parking lot, at least it was for me depending on the way you come. We were greeted right away and sat down. Waited on right away. Staff was friendly and nice. We decided to just go with the name and ordered a Large Plain. Also ordered Mac and cheese bites. Every thing came out at the same time and quickly. It was indeed a large plain pizza for $12.00. Is it a place I would go out of my way to get?...no. It is a quick bite to eat, yes. Seriously just a bit of garlic and basil would go along way. This was my first time visiting Large Plain. Being the nearest pizza restaurant to my house, I had visited the previous business here, Luciano's, on and off over the years and thought it nothing more than average. I watched over the weeks as this location was bought and spruced up, and received a flyer in the mail upon their opening, prompting me to try it out. I did an online order for a small pepperoni pizza and breadsticks, the website was smooth sailing and gave a reasonable 25 minute wait time. Upon arriving I saw the parking lot pretty full for a Thursday evening, and I enjoyed the new dark brown & yellow paint job on the exterior. Once inside I was immediately helped by two girls behind the counter, way faster than I can say for a few other restaurants where you're practically ignored and wait around. They had my order hiding in one of those thermal pizza delivery bags to keep it nice and hot until I arrived! The breadsticks were good and pretty similar to what I've gotten at other places. The pizza was tasty and the sauce wasn't too sweet and a bit acidic. The small is perfect for an individual or to split as a couple with an appetizer. I can't speak to the sit down service, but look forward to returning and am happy with this addition to the neighborhood! read more

I've ordered for pickup here several times over the past few months and have never been disappointed! I get their buffalo chicken pizza and usually a side of ranch. The workers are always promptly with me when I show up for my orders and are pretty friendly too. I was skeptical given the low ratings but my wife and I decided to give it a go. And we were very pleasantly surprised. We got a couple small pizzas and split a hoagie. Hoagie was good, on par with Pittsburgh standards. Didn't blow me away but it was enjoyable. And let's be honest, there's only so much you can do to an Italian sub. I had the Hawaiian and it was awesome. Bacon, ham, pineapple etc. What stood out to me was that unlike a lot of Pittsburgh pizza places, it wasn't drowning in cheese. And so thankfully there wasn't that slick of grease resting on top. Everything was just the right proportions. And the crust was surprisingly good. Soft but not too doughy. And there was a light crispness to it. My wife had a veg pizza and that too was quite good. Beer selection is decent. And inside is a cool little pub feel. Sicilian Pizza (one of the best in Pittsburgh) is fabulous, as is the cheesy bread (never had anything better around here). I can't imagine any score less than a 5 for this place. Initially I wanted to keep my positive review to myself so that the place doesn't start getting really crowded, but some of the negative reviews here make me worry a little about the restaurant's future. So I decided finally to share my enthusiasm for the place. When I "reward" might be trying to get even busier than it usually is. We always stay away on Wednesday nights because there is often a half hour wait to be seated because that is wing night. I've never had their wings, mainly because I'm so stuck on their cheesy bread and Sicilian pizza. It's a small place, and the ambience is fairly average. But it's very clean and have some cool and interesting sports posters and memorabilia on the walls. read more

We always have fantastic service and everything we have tried we have enjoyed. Our favorite appetizer is the cheesy bread, (although they need to find a way for it not to stick to the foil) and the homemade ranch for dipping is amazing. There is a small dining room, but it is decked out in sports gear and has an awesome hockey mural. The Sicilian pizza is one of our favorites but we recently discovered the black and gold! As much as I'd love to keep it a secret, my family and I love the dining area at Large Plain. We have two small kids, and they love getting to sit and eat pizza, watch TV, and be nosy and wave at people. The servers are always busy, but VERY nice and accommodating, the Pizza is really good, wings are really well cooked and crispy (sauce was poured on top - a little too saucy for me), burger is classic and hefty. The food was delicious. We got the Black and Gold pizza and 30 wings (hot and garlic). The pizza was delicious, I would've liked more pulled pork on it but for the price it was good! (~$50) The wings were super crispy and had lots of sauce, so I was really happy with them! The "tub of ranch" is actually just a small To-go cup worth, not worth the extra $3. The service was great, our waitress came by every 10 minutes or so and also let us know the kitchen was running behind. It still only took about 20-30 minutes to get a fresh pizza and thirty wings, so not bad! The atmosphere was a little lackluster, as it was pretty hot inside and a little cramped. I'm just going to lay out the facts.... Ordered a calzone and fries at 6:25, estimated to be ready by 6:55. Arrived at 6:55 and paid immediately. I was told it was just waiting on the calzone... 7:05 I asked for the fries because my toddler was hungry. They were unsurprisingly cold. At 7:25 I asked to just cancel the order so I could go. They offered some podcast thing and I declined which seemed to really offend the staff, I just wanted a simple refund. They checked my order and said I didn't pay. The girl who checked me out confirmed I did pay and I'd say the receipt confirms it too. They said it shows unpaid and nothing they could do. So I left... I was one of many customers waiting for quite some time. I understand things get busy- good for them- but don't commit to a pick up time, blow by it and then blame the customer, and ultimately not refund them. This experience blew my mind. read more
