Do NOT order the pasta bolognese!! Worse pasta that I ever had. The pasta was way under cooked and the sauce/meat was bland. Stick with their sandwiches or maybe the pizza. We went for an anniversary brunch this past Sunday. We didn't have reservations although they were able to still sit us! The decor, music and crowd were all fab!! I had the breakfast nachos with chicken and guacamole. Delicious! My husband had the chilaquiles with chicken and guacamole. He said they were great We both ordered bottomless mimosas and our glasses were NEVER empty! I literally had to cover my glass because we needed to leave to catch a show LOL! I used to really like this place when it was the Halstead Grill. This place use to do nachos, that instead of using tortilla chips, they used tater tots. Totchos as they call them. They were fantastic, so good that I used to order this as my main entree when this dish is really an appetizer. The dish was large, the tots were covered in a cheese sauce and a Smokey tasting salsa, jalapeños, a dollop of guacamole and pico de gallo. The added grilled chicken was a worthy addition with a very generous portion. I will order this all the times. We actually used to go there almost every two weeks. The price was also good. I recall it was around 12. Many of the other dishes were also excellent. This time I came back now that it has an improved interior and another name, Lark's. I'm sad to say that what they gained in looks, they now missed in the quality of the food. The totchos are not the same, in fact I will not order them again. Barely any cheese, barely any chicken and a different salsa. The flavor was off. The price went up, a lot. 16 We also ordered a Cuban sandwich - 16 dollars as well. It that was really good, but 16 was pretty high. For dessert we had the brownie a la mode. The Brownie was good but the ice cream was not. Cheap vanilla ice cream. 9 dollars In all I was left disappointed. Everything that I had tried in this place when it was the Halstead Grill was great and reasonably priced. Now, I can't say the same. Prices went up, quite a bit but the quality of the food did not improve. The service was good and the waiter took out our sodas from the check when I gave him feedback. Well done. In all I'm not sure we will come back. Other things may be good but then the prices are so high that I'm not sure we want to give it a chance, pay a lot and be disappointed. Shame. read more

This was my first time here I live on the southside of Chicago so rarely come up north. However was excited to have brunch here with my 4 sisters and see the Janet Jackson show. Upon arriving the hostess was nice, however when the waitress approached us she was extremely rude and had a bad attitude. Completely bypassed our questions in regards to drinks and food, she has another waiter in training and he on the other hand was amazing. Met a buddy at Lark for dinner, it was the first time since it switched from Halsted's. I was looking forward to try the new place. Keeping an open mind. Upon entering the restaurant, I noticed the changes right away. The bar is right when you walk in, which is nice. My friend was sitting at the bar having a martini. The bartender was very attentive and friendly. I decided on a Miller Lite - you can't go wrong. We had decided to move over to a table so we closed the account. The dining area is in the back of the restaurant. Various sizes of tables are available. I did like the communal table and the area for board games. Great touch. The decor is very relaxing - chill feeling. The server had greeted within a few minutes after being seated. He went over the menu including the specials for the evening. We had opted to try the Meatball appetizers. Then I had ordered the Pan Seared Salmon and my friend had ordered the Buffalo Bacon Burger. The meatballs were delivered with 15 minutes or so. Granted the meatballs are good size but meh on flavor. Nothing special - a little disappointing. Luckily, we were not in a rush. The meals were delivered about 20 minutes after we were completed with the meatballs. I thought the Salmon was very good. According my dining pal, the burger was okay. The server did check in with us throughout the evening. After reviewing the dessert menu, nothing really grab us so no dessert for us. Overall, great atmosphere and the food was okay. Stopped in here for drinks before heading out nearby for dinner. We order two of the specialty cocktails and they were undrinkable - incredibly strong and just awful tasting. Woo! I brought some friends here from out of town and I was worried about how good it was going to be due to the fact that it was Halloween weekend and it was pretty empty. We had a small group and we were able to get seated immediately. I believe I made a reservation, but regardless, it wasn't that busy. The décor was beautiful. In the middle of the restaurant they have a seating area that looks like someone's living room. It has a few sofas where you can play board games and sits in front of a lit fireplace. First off I'd like to say I LOVE chorizo! As soon as I seen that Lark offers a Chorizo and Beef Burger, I immediately knew what I was going to order! I ordered it medium-well and it was cooked perfectly. The flavor combination of the cilantro aioli, queso fresco and chorizo was absolutely delicious. Enough about the food, on to the service. Upon waking in were were greeted by a smiling bartender and sat at our table by a friendly hostess. Our server, Alex, was top notch! We were starving after a Cubs victory!! So we took a walk, not knowing what we'd find. The first place we went to, was a meatless diner. EEEWW We both agreed, no way were we going to eat tofu. Enter LARK!! A great place with a beautiful carved bar and a patio. We started out with the arancini appetizer. Very satisfying. Then the hubs ordered the cobb salad with chicken and bleu cheese dressing I had the most amazing chicken Milanese! The breading on the chicken was like nothing I've ever had before.. Rating this place is difficult since we never got service, so I guess a one star suffices right? For the amount of staff they have there, you would think someone would notice we never got any service. Came in this past Saturday (9:15-9:30 pm) and asked to be seated on the patio. The hostess sat us quickly on one of the high tops (the corner one). We were already ambivalent about coming because my friend has a thing about rats at restaurants (the last time we were there for brunch there were rats scurrying on the patio), but we decided to give it another shot. Right when we sit down another customer turns (thank you!) and tells us that there has been a bunch of rats around our table, so we move two tables down. Someone bring us waters and we look at the menu.... so 20 minutes passes, we try to make eye contact with the waiters (there were 2-3 out there) and still no one. Some other tables seemed to have the same issues too, but for some reason the waiters were attending mostly to the people playing Jenga. So we never got service, told the hostess guy, which I hope he gave them feedback, and left. The food in the past had been mediocre, we were really just looking for drinks and apps this time. I go to Lark for the mere fact that there are very few options in Lakeview/Boystown. I am a vodka drinker and their vodka cocktails are WAY too sweet. The wood fire oven pizzas are delicious. I've visited Lark many times over the last couple years. Each time I visit, I am always pleased. The service is always excellent. Not only are they attentive, but they are all very well versed in the menu and have made great recommendations. My roommate has a gluten allergy and our server carefully walked her through the menu items that are gluten free. Most places in the area usually scoff at this and act like she's a burden. It's nice to have a restaurant that actually cares about their customers and their needs. The food is consistently delicious. Some of my favorites include the chicken caesar salad, chicken pesto sandwich and steak frites. They also have fantastic pizzas. Their patio is also not to be missed. It's beautiful! read more

I did not enjoy my meal here. I sat for about 10 minutes without water or anyone taking my order, even though they weren't that busy. I eventually had to flag a waiter down, otherwise who knows how long I would have waited. The staff was instead mostly preoccupied with chatting to one another at the bar. I had the chicken pot pie, which was okay at best. The portion also seemed small, and I left hungry. There is some convenience since it's located near the bars. But that's about it. Let me preface this with saying this used to be my favorite restaurant in that area. Times have changed. The last four times I have been there have been four different menus, each more disappointing than the last. Each quality item has been systematically cut, leaving a blah lineup of items that try to hard to compensate for what Lark used to be. To the food specifically. Dessert pizza is gone. The previously fantastic breakfast potatoes are now a sad imitation, the breakfast pizza is gone, as is the huevos rancheros. Luckily the restaurant has refocused its efforts into a very intricate menu of mixed drinks specifically themed on birds (as If the owner has forgot that lark has another meaning, must be a huge fan of portlandia). Regarding the staff, their used to be awesome wait staff that really took this place beyond a restaurant and made it fun. Now they have one too many people that do not seem to know what they are doing. I never saw my waitress after my food was delivered until the check was due. From the beginning of my time there I had one person seat me, another take my order and bring me food, another deliver the check, and the manager ask me how the food was (I should have told him the truth, but I was too let down to utter the words). I left this restaurant with half my food in a takeaway box (which I threw away on the walk back), my wallet 20 dollars lighter, and my expectations in tatters. Lark is a hidden gem. It has award-winning ambience year round, great food, tasty drinks, and wonderful service! I love to go here in the winter just as much as the summertime. It has a cozy, trendy, yet neighborhood feeling at all times. You can sit by the fireplace and play a game of connect four in the winter time or sit outdoors in their amazing beer garden with some of the best decor in the city during the summer. I love their Beet salad, Buffalo chicken wrap, and pizzas. They have delicious craft cocktails and the servers are all so friendly. Tyler and Jake are especially wonderful. When people ask what my fave places to go in the hood are- Lark is definitely at the top of my list! read more

I don't even know where to begin... After the server came to the table to get our drink orders and we told him to give us a couple minutes. 15 minutes later he shows back up. At this point we're ready for our food orders as well. After another 20 minutes the server checks in and asks if we need anything and I said just waiting on our appetizer to which he looked confused. Then comes back and asks what appetizer and thought that it was one of our entrees which meant he also forgot to write down one of the entrees. Then he came back and said the "table" messed up our order. Our food finally comes and it's taken to the wrong table. It finds its way over and one of the burgers is wrong and had the wrong side. The absolutely worst food I have ever experienced. We had a larger group and were celebrating a birthday. Several appetizers including the saltiest fried calamari ever!.. the Brussels sprouts were lacking in flavor, the cauliflower was again masked by a salt overkill. I had the kickin chicken, which should be kicked off the menu, the tater tots were just an over cooked tasteless blob. Met some friends for brunch at 11 today. Was pleased when we walked in and sat right down. The menu had plenty of delicious looking options, and the food came out quickly. The bellinis were tasty and we were enjoying a leisurely meal. I went to the bathroom, and when I came back, my friends told me we had been asked to leave because they were on a wait and wanted to turn over our table. The Lark is on Halsted strip and I like the indoor/outdoor patio in the front. The drinks are exactly what you need on this hot summer day. Staff is friendly and great ambience. I recommend the Lark special or Blueberry Mojito. It's ooh, so good. read more
