    Pescado frito
    Halle C.

What a great little restaurant tucked away on Nolensville Road! When my party of 3 walked in, we were greeted by the smell of fresh cooking and a beaming waitress. Our waitress was so patient and kind, helping explain the menu to my grandmother. The food came out within a timely manner. The barbacoa was perfectly tender and flavorful. My tortillas de maíz were so fresh and hot, I almost burnt my fingertips. My grandmother had no problems about her pescado frito, either. It was plentiful portions, the kind where a to-go box is necessary. The leftovers heated up nicely, too. For drinks we all got agua de jamaica. So tangy and not too sweet. It's my favorite agua fresca so this is something that must be nailed for me! I will be back!

We've been going to this restaurant for years and it's been amazing the whole years. They are super friendly and when you have any questions they will know the answer. This day I got a carne asada torta it was so amazing their meat is such a good quality. Also I had a taco, the meat was juicy. My boyfriend always gets a carne asada huarache it's always good. They have different types of drinks but we stick with horchata it's always good no matter what. It's a small restaurant but they always have music playing in the background. When you walk in their super friendly. You can seat anywhere in the restaurant and when you're ready to pay they'll give you the check and you pay in the back of the restaurant. Will forever recommend this hole in the wall restaurant.

I am originally from the Southern California area so full disclosure I am a tougher reviewer on Mexican food then some. Going into Las America's it feels very authentic. The service was quick and super friendly and they can easily pivot between Spanish and English. I ordered a plate with three enchiladas - cheese, chicken and steak. I liked the cheese one the most mainly because it was a different cheese then I am used to and was unique to me. The other two had flavor but the meat wasn't cooked fresh, I could tell it had been in a holding container for a minute. The beans were possibly canned but the rice was decent. With that said I tried a pork and cheese papulsa on the side and it was beyond excellent. Fresh, good portion size and fairly priced. You could easily get full off two. I give it 4 stars only because the service was solid and the pupulsa was amazing. I plan to go back and try other items with a papulsa on the side :)

Burrito ranchero, chorizo taco, and a pork & cheese pupusa

Easy to miss spot, but make sure you don't! Very friendly and cozy little restaurant and store. So many options to choose from on the menu. Decided to go with the burrito ranchero which was good. The pupusas were wonderful, and the chorizo taco had an awesome smokey and spicy taste.

Very busy combination of local grocery/restaurant was a nice change-up from barbecue, Thai, and sandwich/hamburger restaurants. Good variety of Mexican soft drinks and juices, including my favorite, the popular Horchata. Food is fairly traditional and the variety wide. Burritos, soups, beef and seafood. The Menudo was rich and came with the normal accompaniments. The Sunday specials are listed on a board by the open kitchen. Others are listed on the menu and Caldo de Mariscos (Seafood Soup) was listed and I ordered it. A large bowl was delivered, full of seafood with a few carrots and potatoes thrown in for variety. I added a few pinches of the fresh chopped jalapeno and it tasted just right. I enjoyed the people watching and all of the hustle and bustle. Good to see that good ethnic food is available and accessible.

We ate dinner early dinner here with another couple. We all enjoyed it. We had pupusas, tacos and tortas. The service was excellent and I would have paid more for what we ordered. It is small but we were there late afternoon, so only a few tables occupied. A great meal.

This was my first visit based on yelp reviews. First let me start with my sever, she welcome me and my mother in law with a please attitude and smile. She offered Jamaica drink and suggested I try it. I think her service topped the food. The food was good as well. We ordered tacos for a quick bite. Overall, good food good service. Will be back!! Oh yeah - it is in the cut, but don't let it deter you from enjoying its benefits.

Come here for some good authentic food and great hospitality. The waitress was sweet and helpful when we didn't know what to order. I got the American burrito, a pupusa, and my husband ordered rice, chicken, and cheese (not on menu). The portions are huge so come starving.

He even asked if we had any allergies when ordering, which we really appreciated even though we didn't have any. It honestly showed how much they care about their customers. I don't think I've ever had a restaurant ask that before! He was also super attentive and kept our waters refilled so quickly throughout the meal. One thing we really liked was the atmosphere. We loved all the fun live music spots around Nashville too, but this was a nice change of pace if you're looking for more of a chill, relaxed vibe where you can easily enjoy conversation during dinner. We both ordered the asada tacos and they were SO delicious, exactly what we needed. The rice on the side tasted incredibly fresh too, and the tomato and corn mixed into it were the perfect addition. You could tell everything was made with care. The staff was constantly cleaning tables quickly after guests left, and overall the service was just amazing from start to finish. I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised. The guacamole and chips were the standout of the meal. The guacamole was incredibly fresh, packed with flavor, and served alongside warm, freshly made tortilla chips that were hard to stop eating. We also ordered the esquites, since I'm a huge fan of authentic elote preparado. The flavors were delicious and well-balanced. My only suggestion would be to serve the esquites warm, I promise it truly takes the dish to another level. As for the tacos, the presentation was beautiful. The Al Pastor tacos looked fantastic, but they leaned a little too sweet for my taste and were missing some of the bold, smoky flavors I associate with traditional Al Pastor, like guajillo chiles, oregano, and other aromatic spices. On the other hand, the chicken tacos were excellent. They were juicy, well-seasoned, and flavorful enough to shine without needing much from the toppings. To top it all off, our server was friendly, attentive, and helped make the entire experience enjoyable. Overall, Bakersfield exceeded my expectations. While it may not replace the authentic taco shops of the Southwest, it's definitely a solid choice in Nashville, especially if you're craving flavorful Mexican-inspired food before a night out.

I've loved Ford Fry establishments for a long time, though his Nashville outposts tend to pale in comparison to the Atlanta originals, and Little Rey kind of fits that pattern. Little Rey serves Tex-Mex in a casual setting next to the Vanderbilt campus. You order at the counter and seat yourself, making this an ideal spot for a cheap, casual lunch or dinner with a crew. There's a dedicated private parking lot (almost unheard of in this area!) and lots of great indoor and outdoor seating. I came in the early evening on a weekday for dinner and it wasn't too crowded. My chips and piping hot queso came out immediately, and my chicken al carbon taco was ready by the time I got back from the salsa bar. The salsa bar is free and amazing: 6 cold dips and 1 hot dip, full of freshness and flavor. I opted for two of the mild sauces, which were super fresh tasting but not spicy whatsoever (that was on me and my choice). One small note: the self-serve setup made the salsa bar a little messy and unkempt, and I wish it had been tidied up a bit between customers. I came in craving great chips and salsa and on that point Little Rey absolutely delivered. The chips were thin, crispy, salty, and delicious. The queso was super hot and liquidy, not spicy. Perfection. The taco itself was more of a letdown: flour tortilla was cold, chicken was a bit dry, and without the addition of salsa it felt lacking in flavor. They're supposed to be well known for chicken here, so that was disappointing. For dessert I got the vanilla soft serve with chocolate and crushed buñuelos on top. Smooth, creamy, with perfect toppings. The large was a bit too much, but at $5 it was an unbeatable price for a tasty dessert. My whole meal, dessert included, was under $20, which was such a pleasant and affordable change of pace to the surrounding area. Service was friendly, kind, and fast. I'd come back for the chips and queso and soft serve alone, but I'll keep my expectations low for the other items.
