So here I am. A Northern Cali boy stuck in the middle of Wisconsin. My grandma's funeral services land on my birthday. This is my 8th funeral I am attending this year within a 9 month period. My aunt and I were on a long walk around Sheboygan and like an Oasis in the middle of a dessert, something distinctly Californian catches my eye. A Mexican restaurant! My tia told me they serve alcohol so I enter as she has her dog with her, and that's when I saw her, the most beautiful woman in all of Wisconsin! I approached the bar and was gonna, she moved with grace, I tried to, she smiled at me, colorful restaurant, and just like that, for that very moment, I felt a little bit better about myself. I won't say her name, but , "La Sonora Dinamita" refused to let me feel sad about my situation. Her coworker, "La Chulada" and I also exchanged conversation about Spanish and how all of our Spanish is the same, but different. Between drinks, great conversation and an environment that made me feel like I was back at home, La Sonora Dinamita brought out a birthday cake for me! Probably the kindest notion from a stranger in a strange land I have ever received. In typical Mexican tradition, this restaurant would be a stand out restaurant in California. The staff is very friendly, the food is authentic, the drinks were great and the atmosphere reminded me of home. For the week and a half I stayed in Sheboygan, I came here 3 times and took my family here for food and drinks. We sat at our table for 50 minutes waiting for our food........ when I asked the server about it...... turns out he dropped our ticket and never put our order in. So we had to wait another 20 minutes on top of that. The server was absolutely clueless and did not appear to understand the situation. The sever did not even attempt to make up for his error. When I finally got my chicken fajitas the chicken was very over cooked and tasted like rubber. This was absolutely the worst Mexican food I have ever had. Christmas Eve dinner at Las Brisa's was so yummy. I went there with my parents while visiting. I'm so used to boring Americanized Mexican, I wasn't really expecting much. But this food is really good. I had chile rellenos. There was no generic cheese sauce inside. They used real Mexican cheese, with actual texture! And fresh chiles. Wow. the rice had flavor!! The guac had texture! I also had a fish taco that was crunchy and fresh and satisfying. Really good food. Try it. read more

Terrific food. Never had a bad meal here. However... We stopped for dinner yesterday. Yes the food was excellent but the SERVICE WAS TERRIBLE. Our waitress was also bartending and was much more interested in flirting with the guys that were sitting at the bar than tending to our table. We ordered the guacamole and chips appetizer which took at least 15 minutes to arrive. 2 minutes later our meals were delivered. The meals were delivered by another server and the waitress never checked on us to see if everything was ok. We finished our meals and tried to catch her attention for another 10 minutes before she finally could be bothered to tear herself away from the guys at the bar she was waiting on. Had the huarache with steak and my hubby had two chicken tacos. Both were more than enough for food. We always order guacamole and this place had good guacamole. The salsa was more liquid than tomato but it did have flavor. My husband liked his tacos, I never had huarache before so trying to figure out how to eat this dish was my first challenge. Then trying to add a little more salsa was second and then trying to get it into my mouth was my last. I liked it but I'd get it without beans, I feel like that did nothing for the dish. Me and a couple friends came in for something quick and good to eat and only 2 people ordered food (total of 5 tacos and a couple enchiladas) and it took the restaurant over 56 minutes to come with our food (and we had to ask them multiple times) and once we got our food it was cold and not good at all.
