Bar program is strong. The short rib pot pie was a straight up winner. Rich, comforting, and not trying to be anything other than good food done right. The bone marrow lost me. Cooked well, but buried under too many microgreens and then oddly topped with tortilla chip strips. No smokiness either. It felt more confused than cohesive. Where it really started to miss was the overall approach. A lot of "the chef intends this..." type explanations. It ends up feeling like the food insists upon itself instead of just letting you enjoy it. That's the bigger issue. This place exists in a space where I don't think most people want to meet it. Not casual enough to relax, not refined enough to justify the performance. Bottom line: good drinks, great pot pie, but the experience tries a little too hard.

I was in and out for soil... or so I thought. I ended up stumbling across their clearance section, and let me tell you--it's a goldmine. They had lighting and other household gear marked down to 60% off retail. I scored four awesome headlamps for a fraction of the price. It's not something I planned for, but I'm definitely not mad about it. I believe it was Bill or Phil who helped me out--he was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. I asked about grow lights, and not only did he make a solid recommendation, but he also walked me over to the right section. That kind of personal service is rare these days, and it left a great impression. One thing I noticed, though, was that the older staff members were genuinely friendly and helpful. They greeted me, engaged in conversation, and seemed to take pride in being there. In contrast, the younger staff felt a little checked out... not rude, but they were kind of low energy and not particularly invested. This is not a dealbreaker, but it is worth mentioning. The fantastic selection of hidden deals, and some of the best soil prices I've seen in town. It's clear that this Ace cares about its regulars and offers value that goes beyond convenience. Pro tip: Always check the clearance aisle--you will find something you didn't know you needed!

That said I did come during the week and had awesome customer service. I had to buy a bunch of different lumber to fix my back deck and the person helping me could've been more friendly, offered me lots of tips after I asked and stacked up everything to get it out front. I also had a lot of little things to pick up in different departments, and I found someone who actually walked me through motor to the store to find what I needed. From a new cage to cover my dryer vent to changing out the hardware on one of my doors. I think the key if you're looking for good service it's just not show up when they're 50 million people there. So if you can get in there before work starts because they open at like 6 AM in the morning, or go after work you'll be doing yourself a huge favor.

The outdoor area is well set up for the season with the the overflow in the parking lot. My only issue was the selection of bamboo stakes was slim. The ones they had were a bit beat up, I bought some anyway and they should be alright but some of the ones left over... not so much. This place has an outdoor self checkout system, which was new to me but easy to use. They thankfully still have a checkout person if you need help or have questions. Save big money at Menards!…read more Why did nobody tell me about this Menards that has two floors and you take a walkway escalator up to the second floor (or elevator)? How fun is that? Normally I enjoy going to Menards but this was on a new level (!!). I especially enjoyed the trip to the second floor because just below they have a garden pathway of statuary like Versailles and you can get a sense of the scale of this store. Luckily, a helpful employee directed me to the zip ties. I picked up a standing tower fan, some drain cleaner and just marveled at the pet supplies (an aisle for food, an aisle for treats, an aisle for toys), snacks, candy, more. If I fill out the rebate I should have about $20 coming back to me. Of course I'll be back. Please have someone playing the piano for me.

Best part was a young employee saw me struggling to get said freezer into car but was no problem. His name alludes me but within seconds I was good to go! The only problem was is that he refused a $5 tip, over and over attempts to force him to accept failed. Please Menard's change that policy!
