The security guard recently told us we couldn't enter without women in our group, which is unfair and blatantly discriminatory. Being Black in the Lower East Side, we (black people) already face issues of racial exclusion, and I thought Las Lap would be a safe, inclusive space for Black people of all backgrounds. Once they got Chef Kelvin to make the menu and bring over his signature Arepas they were winning ! I would come here religiously for those Arepas as many people did. This past weekend a group of us decided to go to Las' Lap for dinner and drinks. Sadly to our surprise they completely changed the menu. NONE of Chef Kelvins signature dishes are available ! I did see on there instagram that they added a few things to the menu but I wasn't aware that they'd no longer have his items. The macaroni didn't even make the pictures because I had to ask that it was removed off the bill it was really watery and awful. The drinks were super overpriced and not strong. The website says that there is a 20% gratuity automatically added for parties over four and for parties after midnight. We were two people before midnight. After we paid, we realized they charged us the 20% gratuity automatically on top of the gratuity we chose to pay. The waitress gave no apology. She just said that the manager would not be there for another 20 minutes. Little did we know we would be waiting 40 minutes for the manager to come back. The manager voids the receipt then gives us the voided receipt. Then he charged the card again and gave us a new receipt, but when we looked at the new receipt, it still had the 20% gratuity added! We showed the manager and he literally asked to see the original receipt as if he could not see the 20% charge on the new receipt that he just gave us and charged us for. He then proceeds to explain that when he tries to correct it, the machines keeps saying a negative amount. We kept telling him that it is supposed to give a negative amount when a return is done, but did not complete the transaction. Later, we opened the voided receipt he had given us only to find that 1) the gave us a different party's receipt, 2) they had added the 20% gratuity to them also (so clearly this wasn't a one off occurrence), and 3) they successfully completed this other party's "negative charge," aka successfully completed the return of their 20% gratuity!
