One of my favorite local family owned businesses- they are ALWAYS so warm and friendly, and they remember (as I order to go habitually ) what I like. Yesterday we ate at Las Maracas and it was very good. Greeted by a gentleman the moment we walked in, advised to sit anywhere. Water was brought immediately along with a generous basket of warm chips & a very tasty salsa! We ordered a Dos Equis Amber & iced tea and were provided menus & time to decide from the many options. Hubby had the Chile Verde pork which he enjoyed. I had the Chile Colorado pork & it was also good. The meat was very tender, the beans were tasty, as was the rice! They were generous with the hot corn tortillas (which we appreciated). Usually restaurants give you only a couple & you end up eating the meat without the shell. Both main dishes could have been a little spicier, but we've not actually had either previously so possibly this is normal. (We were a little surprised that there were no hot sauce choices on the tables, but we enjoyed our meals and will definitely return). The restaurant was very clean. I'm leaving 3 stars because their food was delicious but the service wasn't great. We didn't get checked on once and our sodas didn't get refilled. We finished our sodas pretty fast since we got those before our food, but never got refills. Never got asked how we were doing and how everything was. It was pretty slow as well. There was only one other family who came in after us, and one more came in as we were finishing our meal. Service to me is one of the most important things. The food could suck and the service could be excellent and I'd still tip well. Not sure if it was an off day for them, but I wish we had gotten checked on at least once! Have always loved Las Maracas. We eat allot of Mexican food from traditional to trendy to amerimex like this one and this place has the best beans, quality food and love that goes into it. I don't understand the recent bad reviews. I know the service can be a little off at times because this is a small family place, but the portions are big and the food is delicious! I've been here plenty of time and never had issues until tonight I called to place an order for rice and beans and was speaking to the fucking owner of the place I ask the price and he states $4.29 for half order. I then ask if that would be enough for three people or and he hangs up on me before I could finish. I called back and he answer again I said did you just fucking hang up on me and I wasn't done is that enough for three people or should I order more he says it $4.29 for a half order if you can afford it and hangs up again. We were the only ones in at 11:30 on a Sunday morn. Yeah, we heathen pagans are allergic to organised religion. Friendly service, but server was spending more time talking to the cook than she did checking on us. Food was good, just not spectacular. My camerones de mojo de ajo had a lot of shrimp and a flavourful sauce. Wife's tacos were good. Chips and Salsa were really good. Prices were on point for the quality. I love this place and I'm pretty picky about Mexican. It's Jalisco style, not Tex Mex. Very authentic. It's a little dumpy and small, but clean and great service. I've had arroz con pollo, fajitas, carne asada super burrito and today I had the best thing yet, camarones ahogados. Fabulous. Their beans are super good too. This place continually creates the finest quality meals i have tasted in this entire state. I am a commercial truck driver and i have eatin in them all. The chicken grande burrito w/ sour cream and guacamole is enough to stuff a giant and every bite is super delicious. I give them 5 stars and if i could i would eat there daily. No one should ever drive down hywy 101 without stopping here to eat and then hit the grocery store and gas up. Great one stop shopping! Friendly owners and usually very speedy service. Last day in Raymond we decided to give this place a try as we were about to leave from our staycation. The owner of this establishment is very friendly man. We were able to get a seat right away their salsa was outstanding while we waited for our food. Our food came out in appropriate time and their taste matched their prices the quality was okay. I've eaten here 3 times in the last 5 years - each in conjunction with an out of town high school football game. I'm fond of saying that Raymond IS the middle of nowhere : ) I like the chips & salsa a lot. My meal the othe night was good, but last time it was just so so. The inside decor was adorable and caught my eye from the moment we pulled up. The service was not the best though, despite the wonderful appearance. I felt as if my husband and I were being treated differently than other customers. For example we were hardly spoken to and when we were, it was very short. At first I just thought maybe that's just how employees are here but when I heard our waitress speaking to customers across the room as if she had known them for years, I began to feel like we were unwanted there. The food was nothing special. I ordered a vegetable dish which said it would have potatoes and yellow squash and other good veggies but when I got my plate it was just a bunch of Lima beans and cauliflower that looked as if it came out of a plastic bag (which it probably did). It tasted undercooked and kind of soggy and had little to no flavor. We are regulars. We stop in every 2 weeks at least. The service is great. The food is more authentic rather than what you get in chain restaurants. The chips and salsa were good so at least I wasn't starving when I left. However the service was so bad I barely got any. We ordered three meals all different and they all were beyond awful. Some of the friendliest people I have met run this place! Always very kind and make my families visits here an injoyable time. We eat her about once every 2 weeks. Locals to the area and with not alot of restaurants to choose from it happens. I love the chips and salsa here, a complimentary appetizer they bring out as your seated! We stopped here on the way home from long beach. It was about noon on a Tuesday and there was one person in the restaurant. However, shortly after we arrived there were about 4 other parties that showed up. This is a nice clean place with really good Mexican food. The food was solid yummy Mexican. The atmosphere was a bit different...as it seems "attached" to a grocery store which seemed odd to us and detracted some from the "ambience." I had cheese enchiladas with rice and beans and it was yummy. My daughter enjoyed the "appetizer" order of Nachos Grandes and boy were they! She barely made a dent in it. The portion sizes for both of us were huge and we could have split either meal and had leftovers. The chips were some of the best that I have had ... crispy rather than hard to bite crunchy. The salsa had a great flavor with a slight kick that we love. I also ordered a strawberry margarita blended. It was like dessert. My husband suggested we go there as he always gets tacos and they look okay. I ordered the vegetable plate. It was supposed to have potatoes, onions, and other sauteed vegetables but when I cut that one open it was a frozen store brand of mixed vegetables such as lima beans, cauliflower, green beans and carrots. It reminded me of gutting some animal. The vegetables were chewy and undercooked with no seasoning. They seemed to be freezer burned. I should have known better than to go there again after past bad experiences. The server was not friendly and the "dish' was overpriced. I would love to find a place that actually uses fresh and homemade ingredients. False advertising. read more
