After spending a day zip lining with family at Gatorland, we were having trouble agreeing on a place to eat. We saw that Las Palmas was across the street, verified that it had positive Yelp reviews, and drove over. Being that we were the only Caucasian family in the restaurant, I figured this place had to be authentic/delicious. Surely enough, it was the best Colombian food I've ever tasted. My breaded chicken dinner could have easily turned into two meals, but I couldn't control myself enough to stop eating. We will definitely be back. read more

We were promptly seated, but then sat for a good 5 minutes until a waitress came over. She brought us menus, and I asked about the lunch specials. She said, no, they were only good from Mon-Fri. Really? There is no sign that says that..not cool. Well, we decide to stick it out and try it anyway. I asked for a recomendation and was told Number 8 was the most popular. It turned out to be a steak and pork combination dish with beans and rice. We go our food about 15 minutes after ordering. It looked and tasted really good. This is not my first visit, but for the first time I need to leave a review. Took my grandma today for her bday and was extremely disappointed. The server was awful, very distan and only came to our table twice. We had to get the attention of other servers. I ordered the "toston con camarones al ajillo" the tostones were drowned in the sauce which made them soggy, the shrimp were not cleaned(you could see the strip of feces) and they look like can shrimp. My grandma ordered the mini bandeja paisa, the chicharrón was undercooked and we had to request for the beans since no one bought them to us. The only thing we can say it was worth it was the empanada we had as an appetizer. Needles to say, I WILL NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE. Great food and portions. Service was really frustrating and disappointing. They run out of most of the items I ordered, which is fine to 86 an item but at least train your servers to know this before hand. Our server was completely on the weeds and didn't even know what she was selling. I tried to speak to the manager but they said no manager was on duty. Maybe its the way Columbian food is served... but I busted 3 times and except for the meats the rest was not to favorable. The seafood soup was non favorable. I was disappointed with the drinks and service. The sangria fruit was from a fruit cocktail syrupy can. Not at all the way you make sangria, with more juice than wine. I had to order a glass of wine to put it in my carafe. The music is not fir taking in the outside bar area, even if they are sitting next to you. A good friend recommended this place for dinner. On a Sunday night we waited for about 15 to 20 minutes for a table of 6. The restaurant itself can get really loud since they have a sports type bar adjacent to the restaurant so you may have to speak up. Our waitress was a hoot and overall very funny and helpful. She also photo bombed our picture hahaha. This restaurant specializes in Colombian cuisine. I am surely glad that my husband and I shared the churrasco. That plate was not only delicious but a perfect portion for two. The churrasco was nice and tender and juicy. Although I missed a sauce like chimichurri perhaps. Regardless this was fantastic. Their frijoles were also very tasty. Since we shared the churrasco we decided to get an order of papa rellena (stuffed potato) and their empanadas. Great Colombian food! We come here for the bandeja paisa which can be shared along with all their other dishes. Another favorite is the bean casserole. It comes complete with ground meat and rice. Only items missing are fried egg and plantains which I'm sure can be ordered in addition. Love coming here for authentic Colombian fare. It can get a little loud specially when there are soccer games as the Colombians know how to party but nothing short of fun. Will keep coming back here for their comfort food. read more

I can't think of a bad thing to say about this place. The food was delicious, the staff were very friendly, and the environment was clean and comfortable. I sat at the bar and was served with smiles. Better to know Spanish but you will be fine with only English. I was recommended the lunch special for $7.95 and it was delicious! It changes every day, so I will definitely be going back, but I can highly recommend the Tuesday special which is tender chicken, a mixed vegetable and meat soup, salad, plantains, and perfectly cooked rice. I was so excited to have some authentic Colombian food, but what I got was sub par. The service was great, at first, till I expressed my disappointment in the food, then the service changed to the bare minimum contact. Instead of trying to correct anything or make it right we were treated as if they couldn't wait for us to leave. My plantains were burned, my steak looked like they had sewn two half pieces of steak together to get a whole, my chorizo was very small and had large pieces of hard fat in it, the pork belly was chewy and not crisp like it should be, also my fried egg looked sickly and tasted as such. The arepa was bland and the half cut tomato they served the meal with wasn't quiet ripe enough. I must say though,that the rice was done well and the beans were seasoned correctly and were very delicious. However, this did not make up for the lack of visual appeal this dish had, nor did it justify paying close to $16 for that small amount of so so food. One of our favorite places to eat because the portions are huge for the price and delicious! They always have a soup of the day and the food is always consistent with flavor and etc. here we have the chicken tostone, Pollo a la plancha which is grilled chicken breast and the red snapper! Almost all of the plates comes with rice, beans, salad and your choice of tostones or Maduros. The sancocho which is the well know. Colombian soup was also so good this one had chicken, pork and beef! The tres leches for dessert hit the spot as well. One of my favorite drinks is refajo which is Colombian soda eroded with beer. wThey have indoor and outdoor seating (covered) with a bar on the outside with the TVs and music! The only bad thing about this place is when they get busy they all get in the weeds. Had dinner here with my family on a Sunday afternoon. For what it's worth, we're a young couple with children and we're locals so this review is not based off just a one-time visit. Food is definitely a passion of ours. We're honest reviewers and food experts. We've had many different types of food from many different types of cuisines from many different locations around the US and outside of the US. My husband and I also love to cook at home but to be fair, this review is obviously not a comparison between home cooked meals and restaurant meals. This is based on what we've had out at restaurants. I'll start with the vibe. Music was extremely loud, couldn't enjoy conversation. We have been to other local restaurants with live music and enjoyed ourselves. This place felt more like a Friday/Saturday night out with friends for drinks at a nightclub in downtown Orlando than dinner at our local restaurant. Now, moving on to the food! My husband and I ordered the bandeja paisa and my kids ordered the chicken. The only somewhat decent part of our meals was the parrillada steak. And that's because we had to specifically request for the steak to be cooked medium other than that the waitress simply assumed steak should be well done. Not surprised! Apparently, cooking meat to a well done state is in their nature. I'll touch more on that later on on this review. No lime was offered for or served with our steak. They did bring out some other sauces but lime is a must. Now, let's talk about their well done meats. Chicharrón was beyond well done, it was overly cooked and dry. Couldn't even chew on it! My daughters complained their chicken was also overly dry. Their fish is also very dry. When it comes to flavor.. beans had no flavor at all, tasted as if they were either frozen or poured out of a can into the pot and no spices/seasoning, not even salt, were added for flavor. Rice was also bland!! Sweet bananas were decent, not sure where they get their bananas from or how they're cooked but their sweet bananas were not as sweet as other places we've been to in the area. The egg on the bandeja paisa was under cooked and I mean I could see some clear white eggs. White eggs should never still be clear, ever! Our dinner was missing a very important part, the avocado! No meal is complete without a slice or two of aguacate. A staple in Latin cuisine!! We didn't/couldn't finish our meals. Everything was just wrong! For drinks, we had jugo de maracuya en leche, jugo de mango en leche and a piña colada. I've had better elsewhere. Not impressed at all. Normally, I order two of each but not at this place. Didn't even finish the first one. The staff is a hit or miss, some of the ladies are ok, others think they're too good to serve the customers. As a waitress, you're job is to SERVE customers. Never to treat customers like they're beneath you. At least, try to be pleasant/tolerable. Humility and a smile goes a long way! Lastly, prices!! For what our bill was here, we've had dinner at restaurants where the ambience, food and customer service were all truly enjoyable. All in all, we will not be returning to Las Palmas. read more

So we was waiting around 20-30 minutes just to get our main courses of course the service was excellent and she explained the kitchen was backed up and on a Friday afternoon with only 3 customers and my family have been starving waiting to get good food this was just so disappointing when it arrived. So the time came the food rolled out it was good presentation but we took a bite and immediately it hit with the pungent taste of reheated refrigerated taste with a pinch of sourness we immediately pointed this out and it was for every dish. The soup cold and tasted horrific the meat looked and tasted like dog food the beans cold and tasted very bland with zero to none flavor. We ate a little bit just for pity but our afternoon was just ruined by terrible food and service and that's just not the end afterwards we experienced terrible food poisoning my family and me including have been having problems just because we ate this food I feel like the sourness was from the month old ingredients they probably used for these dishes. So honestly if you want to get a free trip of 150$ dollars out of your pocket a couple of doctors visits and a empty stomach then you came to the right place for a whole lot of disappointment lack luster terrible food! We have been customers since the original owners opened up the restaurant and the service is absolutely ridiculous now. Out of all our years we cannot believe we were told that if we wanted more food that we should sit down there and eat. If I am paying the same price for a sit down meal it should be the equal amount of food! This is the best Latin American food restaurant I have ever eaten at. It's directly across the street from Gatorland and they serve authentic Colombian and latin foods. Anything on their menu is awesome! They even have Apple Soda pop! On my recent trip to Orlando, I tried a dish I can't pronounce but it was a whole fried plantain (flattened of course, called a Toston) and it was topped with a creamy garlic sauce that had fresh minced garlic and parsley in it. It was slightly sweet but mostly savory with a heavy creamy garlic flavor with small 3/4" diameter tender shrimp and large 1 1/2" diameter shrimp. This was served with a side of a house salad that included diced beets, a slice of fresh tomato, and slices of fresh red onion all on top of a bed of iceburg lettuce. Also it was served with some pink beans and white rice. The pink beans are to DIE for! These are the best pink beans I have ever had and taste just like my mother's. Very homemade. The waitress told me they are not canned beans but are made fresh daily and they add fresh cilantro in them. They are not canned beans. I've also had the chicken empanadas which are REALLY good and well priced. My boyfriend had the Grilled Chicken with rice and beans and tostones which he said were excellent too. We walked out of the restaurant feeling completely stuffed and satisfied. I recommend this place highly! They are worth it and very friendly every time I have been there. They are currently doing construction around the facade of the restaurant so one may presume they are closed but they are open for business! We ordered two entrees: strip steak served with a cheese enchilada, pico de gallo, safron rice & refried black beans and grilled chicken with sauteed onions and peppers. Both were delicious and the portions are generous but the star was the chicken dish. Per the recommendation of many other yelp members, they said get the guacamole to eat with each bite of chicken and they were SOOO RIGHT. It changes the dish and adds another dimension to the flavors. The average cost per entree is around $15 but the portion size per dish served two girls or 1 guy. I came here after I saw Colombia beat Greece in the 2014 World Cup Tournament. I felt I had to celebrate by having one of Colombia's famous dishes. I heard this restaurant just across the street from Gatorland was pretty good. The atmosphere was still electric with the win. This is a great Colombian restaurant. I ordered empanadas as en appetizer. The empanadas were hot, fat, filled with a delicious mix of rice, meat, and spices. One of the better empanadas I've ever had. After that came the dish... A Bandeja Paisa, a delicious mix of beans, steak, a fried egg over rice, chorizo, chicharron, corn cake, plantains, and a tomato. An amazing plate. You must try it if you never have. The food here is absolutely delicious! I must say, having some good Colombian food in the middle of Orlando was heart warming for me! A friend recommended this place and he was spot on. The service was incredible, the staff was filled with beautiful Colombian women, the food was delicious beginning to end. From the empanadas to the carne asada, to the chicharon, to the arepa con queso. You name it, it was delicious! They also offered a half bandeja paisa which was a great idea for those in the mood for the dish but not ready for the whole thing.
