Last night was the Balloon Glow. Last Dollar had their rooftop open. There were probably 25 people in that area. At approximately 9:00 a guy who had on a white apron, a baseball cap and dark bushy hair... came into the area and started screaming at everyone to get the F&@k OUT. He was walking like he was going to break bad on everyone up there. No one had asked us to leave.... everyone was confused and then pissed. I head from several that they would never be back. He was an a$$.... no excuse. I just went to get our pizza at brown dog... I was going to talk to a manager at Last Dollar... but they were closed. Hope Last Dollar gets rid of this employee... absolutely not good for business. read more

I just don't get it. The "Buck" was awesome. Why did they have to go and ruin such a great place. This place now has all the charm and character of the lobby at a Hilton. (Nothing against Hilton) I guess they were going for that kind of vibe. Killed it. Purse hangers and outlets to charge you phone are everywhere which is great if you remember to bring yours from home. It feels like a Starbucks. The bar top looks like it came from a folding table, the ceiling looks like an afterthought. It's almost like someone just gave up. If this place was a colour, it would be beige. As someone else mentioned, the drinks are shit. I'm not quite certain how you can screw up a vodka/cran but somehow it's doable. The bartender had all the personality of a fern. Watching the other patrons, I noticed a few leaving after just one drink. We did the same. When I lived here, this is where you would go to talk about the news of the day. "A locals joint". Now, it's just like any other generic bar. The tourists might like it because they don't know any different. There are much better options in town. I would encourage you to try them. read more

This is the best rooftop bar in Telluride! What's not to love about those gorgeous mountain views?! The staff was extremely friendly and chatty and gave us tips on where else to visit in town. Every town needs a dive bar. The Last Dollar Saloon is Telluride's dive bar and it's everything you hoped it would be. Large space, the smell of beer, & Big Buck Hunter. What more can you ask for? The reason I am giving this place 5 stars is because I left my hat there one night when I was out in Telluride. I went back that same night and couldn't find it and was pretty upset because it was a gift from my wife. I called and left a message on their answering machine and 2 days later received a call that they found the hat. They are mailing it to me in NY. As is typical of everyone I've come across in Telluride, the hospitality here is second to none. Maybe I'm a jaded New Yorker but dealing with friendly people is a really nice change that I could definitely get used to. Thanks Last Dollar Saloon management! As the story begins, I wish I could rate less than one star. I am not a hard person to please. Quite easy, actually, and that is exactly what Josh and Moussa (Sorry if I misspelled it) did. Easy going, the exact kind of bartenders you'd expect from The Last Dollar. Then this evening happened... Started about 15 after 3 pm, on a rainy Telluride afternoon. The New Sheridan (which I will write another review for) has a lonely bartender named Rob. He's mid-50's, grey hair, and wears the usual oversized plaid kind of shirt. Nothing you'd usually not overlook. Came into the bar with 5 other people for happy hour, paid, tipped, and took off to The Last Dollar. My personal favorite in Telluride until this evening. Funny thing in Telluride, it's a small town, which does not help our story in this case. Rob works at both The Last Dollar and the New Sheridan, and when I closed my tab in Lost Dollar I knew what I was in for. A friendly person who knew a familiar face and would be nice again. Oh was I ever wrong. So there I find myself facing Rob, working back and forth of the bar for about 10 minutes. Its not busy at all. There were people there (locals) for the 'nothing weekend', which is a naked bike ride through Telluride, about 2 blocks. These individuals were all gone by the time I went in to close my tab. I opened it with Josh who was very helpful and took care of our party of 6. When I closed my tab, the addition was Rob. I told him my name again, well because he asked, and there are many tabs open. He swipes my card a few times (which can be tricky) and then proceeds to lean across the bar and tell me "The next time you're in here, your card is not welcome." I was appalled. I said, "Yea, it can be kind of tricky, some people have issues swiping it." Which some card reading systems do. Apparently this broke the camels back. He became very irritated, rude, and basically became a complete jack ass. Apparently my card not reading was too much. He made it very clear that I was not welcome there anymore (unless I used a different card) to which I replied, "Funny, your partner bartender had no issues with it earlier, nor did the co-owner Moussa yesterday." He murmured that it did not matter, and I replied, "If it was such a pain in the ass 1 hour ago at the New Sheridan, then why did you not say anything there?" He mentioned, it was, but you probably don't remember... We had, 2 Stella Artois, 1 90 Shilling, 1 Double Jack on the rocks, and a Karma beer. Ahh and I was drinking the Karma beer, how's that for irony, and memory, clown? All of a sudden you're questioning my memory when you had to ask for clarification (last name and pain in the ass card) at the beginning of another interaction? Who's memory is really slipping here? Granted this review is not even 12+ hours after it happened. The sun is still up and my tab at the Last Dollar was $35.00 for 6 people. We were not obliterated, nor are even close after this happened. Anyway, somehow, MAGICALLY!!! Rob found a way to use the machine in front of him to run a tab. I thanked Josh for his time, and told him I would be back to sing his praises and asked when Moussa would be in to talk to them personally on top of this review. I never wish ill on anyone, and treat local people with upmost respect as I am a visitor, but damn does this experience make it difficult. I wish I could take my 35% tip from the Sheridan experience back for how bad this evening was. From my favorite, to the worst in 1 interaction. Thanks. read more

Last Dollar Saloon - Dive Bars Near Me - Telluride, Colorado

If you are in Telluride and down to your last dollar, you are out of luck because a can of PBR is $2 here. Explaining that you are down to your last dollar will simply get you a free explanation of their strict anti-vagrancy policy. Go ride the gondolas, they are free, or perhaps you can bet that dollar on something like the amount of week smoked in Telluride on a given day, or you can ask if they offer a half can. Regardless, the Buck is the best bar in Telluride, and that's not necessarily saying a lot because there are not a lot of bars in Telluride, but it's a good bar none the less. It would probably also be the best bar in Dayton, Ohio or Walla Walla, Washington. Expect a mixture of locals, cowboy types, motorcylistas, and tourists. I would give zero stars if i could, Just saying the security guard outiside of dollar saloon is racist asf and said i as a black women deserved to lose my life becuase i left my ID at home and tried to use a bathroom at a bar that already served and checked me.. also when i WILLINGLY went outside and waited after he didnt accept my 3 forms of id, he came outside and said "really an ID on your phone?" I said verbatim "I understand youre doing you're job and you could lose your liquour license, im a cocktail server I completely understand." He went to go on and say no "i wouldnt be surprised if you were SHOT OR BEAT for NOT HAVING ID".. mind you i was outside waiting for my friends minding my own business not trying to sneak in or anything. I was literally waiting outside in the 32 degree weather.. oh AND had a picture of my forgotten ID (I had to photocopy my Id and insurance for this trip and left my ID in the printer, which I explained to them) a credit card to match and a picture school id to match the picture ID on my phone. also we had ALREADY bought 2 drinks and we left a $30 tip... that's 200%+ gratuity... I already felt uncomfortable as the only black person in this space and this was definitely the cherry on top. DONT COME IF YOURE A POC THEY WILL DISCRIMINATE. 12/26/21, I came back to the bar after being treated rudely the day before because, ambiance was cool and I wanted to watch the football game. While I was there I bought several rounds drinks when a gentleman came in with his service dog and was met by the rude owner/bartender . He was asked for proof of the dog being a certified service dog and the gentleman showed him proof on his phone. The bartender responded I need to see paper proof and "I don't like you so I'm not serving you and get out". I abruptly closed my tab out and if there are any questions I'm the guy who gave you no tip and left with my family. I WOULD NEVER SPEND ANOTHER DIME IN THIS PLACE. Okay...first let me correct some of the previous reviewers...it's "Da Buck"! I come out to Telluride each year to partake of the great skiing out here...and for some reason, probably because I hang out with alcoholics, I end up at Da Buck each night! Keep in mind that I'm not that much of a drinker, nor that much of a fan of bars in general...but this place is just the right amount of Funky-Cool...and I feel right at home. Let's see, to describe how little I drink, my first attempt at ordering a drink from Moussa (Yep, that's his real name) was a request for a Pina Coloda...okay...stop laughing now bitches! Well, Moussa laughed for a while with my friends, then politely informed me that NO WAY was he going to make such a Foo-Foo drink for me...but in actuality, they don't have a single blender in the entire joint. Now normally, when my ego-clad manhood is being mocked, openly in public, which is actual pretty common and frequent...I take it...in bitter silence....but Moussa made up for my obviously non-manly drink request for a slightly less Foo-Foo drink that I have NO idea what it was...but fruity, slightly sour and tasted bad-ass! With all the bars in Telluride, you can tell this is the bar that the locals call home...and that Moussa was the unofficial Town Mayor, because that guy knew EVERYBODY! Bartenders here were definitely friendlier than any other bar that we went to....although Luisa next door was super friendly and served us unbelievable Lemoncellos! This is the type of bar where Simple is Standard....and Simple is GOOD! They ONLY accept Cash, so if you're sporting your AMEX BLACK to show off here, noone cares...or really knows what the hell that is... I've had some FUN, FUN nights hanging out there...and a good thing that my friend lives like a block away...short-easy-stumbling distance home to crash out! Oh yeah, why do I actually like this bar and not the countless others that I've been to that convinced me that I'm NOT a Bar-Hopper....this was the one bar that wasn't so ridiculously loud that you can't have a conversation with anyone! Let me start out by saying this bar is really cool. The only reason I am even wasting my time writing this review is because of what my wife and I witnessed tonight. For the second night in a row, we were greeted with a lot of attitude from the same bartender. Some big guy with a man bun and a big ego from California. Long story short, I watched this guy literally jump over the bar twice and drag a patron out by his feet. I am not defending the guy that was thrown out but it was extremely wrong to throw someone to the ground and drag them out by their feet. That is not how a business should conduct itself. Def best bar in Telluride! $2 PBR's? That's my jam! Cash only? Cool, whatevs! Great atmosphere, totally cool bartenders and the only bar not playing bluegrass music. Great! I am told that locals call this rustic watering hole "the Buck," and its look and feel certainly qualify it as a local hangout. Absolutely terrible service. I don't know what's wrong with the employees there but they all had issues from the start. Whoever owns this place would benefit from getting a completely new staff that respects the customers. My group got kicked out because the bartenders were too dense to realize that we left a cash tip. They freaked out and even got physical because they thought we stiffed them. I'm looking at my credit card statement now and it looks like they actually added a tip to my card without my consent. This place is a pretty cool local hang out. I don't think they serve any food but no drink seems to be over $6. It is really dark in there so - it's truly a late night bar. They have a foos ball table that you can play for free so that's kind of cool. We had a pretty good time here. read more

Fun little bar with a great selection of beer. I was here for a World Cup game once and it was down right rowdy...at 8am! I like that in a bar. I've been a couple times since, and always had a good time. Nice spot for live music. If you want a couple beers you could do a lot worse than da buck as they say. I never write reviews but I felt like I had to. This was my first time in telluride and I was excited to try this bar. My mom had texted me saying to go here because my uncle is friends with the owner. So I walk in and order a drink and ask the bar tender if he knows the owner and I say his name. He replies "no I don't know who I fucking work for". I stare at him uncomfortably and he finally goes he's not here and asks why. I said because my uncle knows him and he goes "I don't care." Two thumbs way down. So after a little hike up Bear Creek my gf and I head to Last Dollar Saloon for apre-hike drinks. Waited outside for invitation to be seated as required by a sign at the door. Invited to enter and order drinks and with them in hand we head to the roof to chill. Once we've been there a few minutes we realize that every other table up there has a complementary bottle of water and cups for it. Ok...maybe waiting to be noticed is the order of the day. We wait. We finish our first round. The bartender who served us our drinks brings up another set of guests and seats them across from us...WITH a bottle of water and cups to match. No offer to get us any or offer to provide refills. I go back down to the bar and get refills. We hang out a bit longer. Another server comes by and picks up empty glassware without a word. No offer of refills or water. This happens TWICE. We finally ask for water. It's delivered with cups. Not. One. Word. This is getting weird. We decide to leave. We honestly forgot to put our Covid masks on...by that point were upset...we are roundly yelled at...and none too politely...for not having masks on as we spend less than FIVE seconds passing through the lower level. I have NO idea what we did to deserve this treatment. I visit town frequently and have NEVER had something like this happen. Oh wait...my gf is not a blond haired blue eyed white person like I am.
