They are the nicest people you will ever meet and are willing to help you with just about anything. So at the beginning of February I wanted a bunny and I started searching around and found "last place on earth". When I called they told me how their bunnies were limited. So I called in the day before (Thursday) To make sure that I would be able to get a bunny, and arrived early morning Friday. I went really early just to make sure that I would be able to get a bunny, there were others waiting out in line with me. The ladies working there were so sweet and trying to make sure that we were comfortable with our bunnies, that it was fair for everyone who's there at the right time or first to get their bunnies, m and they also supplied a deal with a cage, bedding, housing hut, hay, and feedings, a bowl and toy for the bunny. I think in total I spent about $200 but it was definitely worth it. I got a white and light brown spotted lionhead, it's name is Iverie Thank you so much Last Place on Earth ! read more

This is my first negative review ever. I purchased a large, expensive, ferret enclosure ($250-ish) and a small animal playpen ($79.99) in preparation for our chinchilla. The cage is wonderful, but we won't be able to use the playpen. The price tag is still attached to the playpen in two places; however, the shop will not accept its return. The employee I talked to suggested I try to sell it on Marketplace since they wouldn't take the return. read more

The only place I'll buy Dubia roaches. I've bought roaches from Petco that had parasites, pet supermarket has roaches that are okay but overpriced. Ultimately, Last Place on Earth is currently the only place in earth I trust to get good, healthy dubias. Dubias from other places will just up and die on me, with theirs you can set them aside for a month and come back, they'll all be a-okay. I was looking for advice on freshwater tropical fish for an outdoor fountain and boy did I got the jackpot here! Sara, he's been working at this store since she was a mere tadpole. Not impressed. Went in looking for puppies. Painted across their front window is something along the lines of 'Charlotte's #1 Puppy Supplier' (paraphrasing). They had 3 puppies in the store and said they wouldn't have anymore for several weeks. When asked specific questions about their suppliers, answers were vague and unsatisfactory (puppy mills, I'm guessing). I spent a few minutes (10ish, maybe?) looking at one of the pups, and was starting to consider one of the others, but was then run off by a clerk who said that, "You can't just play with the puppies all day." Well, guess what, Lady? If you seriously expect to consider spending almost $1,000 on a puppy I could get in lots of other places for $350-$400, then you need to be a lot nicer to your potential customers. Perhaps invest in some customer service training. All in all, staff was unhelpful and unknowledgeable about their inventory and animals in general. The woman in charge was downright rude. Not only will I not be buying a dog from them, I won't purchase supplies there either. DO NOT RECOMMEND! read more

Please do not support a place that sells puppy mill dogs. They will tell you that their puppies do not come from mills, but I have friends who breed high quality, imported german shepherds and great danes and both of them told me that no reputable breeder will sell their puppy to a pet store. EVER. Breeder that cares about the wellbeing of their puppy will spend considerable amount of money and time on proper health testing including OFA/Hip, Penn-Hip, CERF-Eye, cardiac screening, Von Willebrands Disease and others. They also make owners sign a contract for the dog to be spayed/neutered at certain age and if anything happens, the puppy goes back to the breeder. Absolutely no rehoming. If the "breeder" sells to a petstore, they obviously could care less about where their pup goes which is a huge red flag. The store won't give out the names of these breeders, because they are commercial breeding facilities where parents are kept in dirty, cramped cages and are forced to pump out litters several times a year. Please do your research and spend little extra money by supporting a reputable breeder or rescue a dog from a shelter (there are plenty of puppies in rescues needing homes). read more

So if you want to go into a pet department store and do all your one-stop shopping for the month, this isn't the place. But I'll tell you what LPOE has going for it. They aren't trying to be a superstore. hey know exactly what they are, and they do what they do with friendly attention and truly caring sentiments toward their customers. I buy my dog food there every few weeks and I can honestly say I truly enjoy going in there even if it's only for a few minutes. I buy Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul food and they are one of only two places in the Charlotte area that carry it. They smile when I go in there. they know me by name, they pay attention to me if I ask them a question or make a comment, and they make me feel like they truly appreciate me as a customer. I have yet to go into this location, I do know that the Gastonia Location on E.Franklin was found to have health issues with both pets and in the building its self. Animals found neglected and health issues along with some having aggression and anxiety. went in and found what appeared to be a "MILL" . mice and rats were found in small glass terrariums filled with about 30 to 40 of them. there wasn't any space for any of them to lie down on the bedding, so they just stepped and walked on top of each other. Puppies were kept in small crates and looked dirty/ sickly, one pup appeared to have anxiety and a worker told the pup to "shut up". Ferrets were found at 4 months old in a small glass terrarium, looked sickly and were aggressive. The business its self smelled like urine and deification. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND BUYING A PET HERE UNLESS YOU PLAN TO BRING TO THE VET AFTER PURCHASE! read more

Last place on earth, well they got that name right because after today it will be the last place on earth I go to when it comes to pet stores. Went in and was in the process of buying angelfish until sales rep copped an attitude. Already advised her that fish would be in bags for several hours because we were not local. They proceeded to still provide the smallest bag possible and filled the bag with more water than oxygen. When pointed out that there wasn't enough room for the time needed the attitude only increased. Instead of trying to save the sale, we were told to have a great day. I will not recommend the store to anyone unless I'm giving a recommendation of where NOT to go in the future. read more

I have been going to this pet store since November of 2006. I found this place merely because o have a snake that I feed live rats to. Not only are these people knowledgeable bit they are one of not the only place that sells live rats. I drive 45mins to this place and I won't ever change that. They love is like family and kmow my drive is far so they always have my stuff ready when I come. PLUS I don't get the speech about, how I'm a bad person because o feed my snake live rats. As for the puppy mill remarks, I have 2 amazing purebred dogs that came from them, and they are healthy happy and amazing. This so called pet store is by far the worst one I have seen in Charlotte. Please do not buy fish from this store they will rip you off. I bought a black tip shark and two days later it died I took it to the store with a sample of my water and they misread the indicators by waiting more than 10 minutes. They tried telling me that my water was unsafe for any new fish and that they will give me a discount on products I didn't need. I went ahead and purchase an eel from a different store and he has been doing perfectly fine the past 2 weeks. They are way overpriced with their stuff and the female red headed manager is extremely rude. For those of you who are tired of dealing with chains and large-scale suppliers, then this is the place for you. The Last Place On Earth pet shop has a vast variety of fish and critters available, as well as just about everything you could ever need for your fur-child. I have purchased several reptiles and fish from this establishment, as well as feeders for my ball python, and I couldn't be more pleased with the quality and health of these animals. I also got my first puppy from LPOE, a little lhasa apso/cocker spaniel mix. She is almost a year old now, and is one the sweetest and most intelligent dogs I have ever interacted with! The staff is very knowledgeable, and will do their absolute best to provide you with any information and solutions that you may need for your pets. There are times when the place can get a little packed, and the hustle and bustle can keep them running around like chickens with their heads cut off. But if you wait patiently, and set aside the whole "me first" mentality, you will be assisted with a smile in a timely manner. I've seen what these people deal with on a daily basis, (feeding, cleaning tanks/cages, stocking supplies, helping unruly customers) and trust me, some of you are lucky they're even willing to help in the first place. So if you can deal with the smell of animals (which is honestly not nearly as bad as some of these reviews make it out to be), an occasional hectic rush, and are willing to be patient and learn a thing or two, the LPOE pet shop is for you. The Last Place on Earth smells a way that you never expect a public business to smell. It smells like going into your weird friends house who never spays their dogs or cats and as a result has urine soaked everything & wet dog aroma forever in the air. It's just bizarre that every other pet shop I've ever been to has just as many animals, if not more, but they don't smell like this place does. Also, the selection is very small. The store is very dim & Also, the staff is some of the least professional I've encountered at any place of business. My foreign boyfriend and I went into the store & as he was talking to me about the animals, a member of staff chimes in in, copying him in a strange cartoony, offensive version of his foreign accent. Just weird. Another thing I noticed when I was researching reviews for this place, is that they respond to negative reviews like absolute bratty children, never taking the criticism to actually better their business, instead just being trashy & attempting to belittle the reviewer. Eek! Methinks not. I got to the Last Place a few minutes before closing and while I was getting my daughter out of her car seat another customer pulled up. He got to the door two maybe three steps ahead of us and once he was inside the red headed female manager closed the door in our faces without speaking, making eye contact, acting like a human, and she locked it. She had seen us pull up and walking just behind the gentleman. When I called she had the other employee ,who saw the whole thing and stood there stunned holding a puppy, answer the phone. She said they closed at 6pm. You let the other customer in and it just turned 6 and asked why they didn't say anything rather than closing the door in my face like they did not see us. She hung up. My ball python, Hollywood, had to go another night without food. I called and spoke to a guy earlier about the feeder rats and he was so nice but it is not enough to make me customer. read more

My dog always had coarse fur and lost hair around her bottom but, the staff knew the right food and shampoo combination that has kept her fur soft and thick for over 3 years! Blood work showed elevated liver enzymes, leading to a dianogisis of congential liver disease. We were instructed by our vet to inform the breeder as soon as possible to prevent additional suffering for future litters. Our puppy, Nilly, was a gift to our daughter for her fifth birthday. Our daughter is devasted. We appreciated the reassuring health clause in the contract required by the Last Place on Earth at the time of purchase, never assuming we would need to envoke the terms of this contract. However, we are currently in a battle with the Last Place on Earth because we made the decision to put Nilly to sleep, thus being her cause of death, rather than letting her suffer from the congential liver disease. Apparently, we need the cause of death to be the disease directly. I am unsure if the breeder was ever contacted. We are being denied reimbursement, which prevents us financially from being able to help our daughter cope with a new puppy. We hope you do not experience the same situation and you are able to enjoy your new furry family member. read more

Going to this pet store was the biggest mistake that I and my husband have ever made!! We purchased a Maltese puppy from this pet store that has Giardia we have been to the vet three times and have spent over 400.00 in vet bills and we have only had the puppy three weeks. In three weeks he's had everything from a firm stomach to vomiting and even horrible diarrhea with mucus and blood coming out behind it and also a bacterial infection that caused him to strain and bleed more. On top of all of this I called about three days ago to ask about our puppy's registration, I was told that it takes 90 days to come back because the breeder sends off that information once the purchase is made. So not only was I sold a sick puppy I was sold one that wasn't registered when I purchased it. As I was being told all of this information I then asked who was the puppy registered through and was told by the manager that she didn't know it depends on the breed of the puppy so then I asked if I told her the breed could she tell me then and she said that she didn't have the information in front of her, it depends on who the breeder was and that information wasn't available either so I am guessing that he is not registered. During the times that I've call I have been told to bring the vet bills to them. One person said bring the bills then they will contact the vet and then the manager would decide what she wanted to pay. I called today to ask them did they have a pet return policy on sick animals and was accused of not wanting him because he didn't fit my life style and this lady doesn't even know me! She then told me that he had a clean bill of health when he left now if you don't know this Giardia takes seven to ten days to get in a animals system and show up in feces. We took him to the vet the day after purchase and the sample came back on the third day. I was also told by her that she has sold puppies with this parasite before and it is very common which it is not. The problem with this all is I would have never spent 900.00 on this puppy if I had known he was sick the manager told me that since I signed a paper saying that he appeared to be healthy then there is no refund I would have had to find all of this out and return him in 48 hours of purchase and that if I can't afford to keep taking him to the vet that I have to sell him on my own. She then told me that buying a sick dog is the same thing as having one for three years and finding out that he is sick which is not true. The sad part is I am to the point that I don't even want to EVER EVER go near this pet shop again worst experience in my LIFE!!!!!!!! read more
