Super tasty! I was here with the family, visiting from out of town. We're from the SF/Bay area, so we have some experience to compare with when it comes to boba. Each of us went with the more desert oriented creme brulee or tira misu options since we wanted something sweet and a little different. It was all really good. The boba was fresh and had just the right texture. The tiramisu was super rich... I wanted more but restrained myself. I usually get 25% at any other places but 50% here is less sweet than my usual order. The tea is fragrant which I love. The boba is just okay IMO. There are two types of boba and I got the brown sugar whereas my husband got the other one (with his Matcha strawberry). I can't differentiate the two. I gotta say I like the Matcha strawberry. Finally got around to trying this place in Culver City, and man it might just be one of my go to boba shops in the West LA area! Parking wasn't really easy to find, but I managed to find street parking at night (I came around 8pm on a Wednesday). I ordered a High Mountain Milk Tea and Tiramisu Milk Tea. The High Mountain milk tea was really creamy and richly infused tea flavor. Even though I heard that the owner is Taiwanese, this drink still exceeded my expectations in terms of flavor and richness. The sugar level at 100% was perfect. The Tiramisu Milk Tea was a huge miss though. Usually, when you order a Tiramisu MT, you expect a tiramisu flavored milk tea drink. However, at this shop, what I got instead was a chocolate milk tea with tiramisu puff cream on top. Feels like it's misleading/mislabeled compared to how the majority of shops make a tiramisu MT. I hope they clarify this on their menu, since I was taken aback by how chocolatey the drink was. Might as well be named as chocolate milk tea with tiramisu puff cream. Their brown sugar boba was amazing. It felt warm through the cup. It was full of flavor and the consistency was a little too soft, but really bouncy and chewy! This is one of the best boba pearls I've had in the entirety of the West LA area. Especially for housemade boba, the pearls are really yummy and definitely worth putting in your drink. This does not taste like a liquified candle, it is not nutmeg heavy, but it is on the sweeter side. They have two versions of this - caffeinated and non-caffeinated (just milk, I believe). As someone who is weak to caffeine, I'd recommend getting this non-caffeinated because both times I got the caffeinated version, I was shaking so bad and got a pretty bad headache. Both bobas are sweet, but...: - Honey long'an boba: I'd order this with non-milk drinks. As the name suggests, the sweetness comes from honey. I'd say this is sweeter than the brown sugar but not as robust. - Brown sugar boba: The "classic" boba. The sweetness is deeper/darker and I'd say this goes better with milk-based drinks. Something I've observed, when I go to Latea on the weekends, the brown sugar boba has not been sweet and have been a bit bland (and sad to say, soft from maybe sitting out for too long?). This place is a top tier boba joint. The staff and owner Jack are super friendly and have perfected their crafts. You can watch boba being made on the counter so you know forsure it's the freshest. I'm terms of all the drinks I had I really liked the macha latte mixed with crème brûlée. It was the perfect balance of sweetness that fit well wit the strong matcha. The cookies are to die for as well, super soft and not overly sweet. Everything here is fresh and pretty much every combination fits perfectly. Holy smokes! I have been sleeping on Latea. First of all, thank you for being open during the pandemic, but secondly, wow! Just wow. I have to admit I've had this on my radar for quite a while, but being from the SGV, I had my preconceived thoughts of west side boba. I mean I've been so disappointed time and time again. First off, the food/snacks are great! I had one of every kind and the tarts and Madeleines were my fave. I got my boba all with 50% sugar and with oat milk. The creamy cheese foam drinks were on point and the boba itself was perfect QQ/chewy. A lot of the homemade boba places have boba that doesn't taste like boba, but rather they taste like mochi. Latea's boba actually taste like boba, just softer and fresher. I loved all the diff milk choices and I really appreciated how the staff was so nice and was willing to explain everything to me being that it was my first time. Latea was such a great find! Lots of cool drinks and non-dairy and vegan options! Friend and I came to study, and ngl we were there for like 6 hours but it was so comfy and we found ourselves a small extension of the shop that had a glass window and nice seating. There were an abundance of outlets and the wifi was even posted around everywhere. Everything about the store was super thoughtful. I think they also make a lot of their topping in house which I thought was cool bc not that many places do that. The service was also wonderful. The owner I believe was offering us their in house made madeleines, and he even came around multiple times offering us some because we saw we were studying! Overall great find and I'd come back soon. Somethings to note though that there is no restroom so if you're studying for a while, you'll just have to go across the stress to the Culver Stairs and use the public bathroom there, but it was pretty clean so nothing to stress about! Also parking was a little difficult but it was Culver City so not too bad. Luckily there was a parking garage literally right across the street so that was convenient, but just a bit costly especially if you were to stay studying for a while. Anyway, give this place a shot! Instead the visit turned into a complete disappointment. I ordered Thai tea that is one of the simpler drinks to make and it's so happens to be one of my favorites. I suspect that some non-typical milk was used because the drink turned out to be a disgusting mix of sugar and, what I think was an almond milk. I should've asked but it tasted like one. In addition to the drink itself being a disappointment this was actually the most expensive tea shop out of them all. I think I paid eight dollars for my Cup of tea. That's two Starbucks lattes for such a poorly made drink. Never again. I thought the pastry cabinet was really poorly made too. It's a little pricey around the $6 range. I tried the Assam Milk Tea with the Longan boba. Compared to regular brown sugar boba, it has a little more of a herbal taste, but I really liked it since it wasn't as sweet. The boba was really chewy! I had to give 3 stars because this is the most expensive bubble tea I've ever experienced. However, I love bubble tea, and love the idea that Latea is providing fresh tea leaves, options, and a creative menu. I ordered a jasmine green milk tea, added real milk (instead of powdered) + bubbles, plus upgraded to a large and am in shock it came out to $7+. I will say that I don't think it was worth it despite the honey bubbles being delicious. read more

LAtea makes their delicious boba in-house! You can watch them make it in the shop while you wait for your drink! It's probably the best textured and taste for boba I've had in the LA area so far! They have a honey boba and brown sugar boba, both so good but if I had to choose one I would go for the honey boba as a personal preference! The owner's grandmother passed down this recipe to him from Taichung, Taiwan which is the birth place of boba tea! They source quality ingredients and tea from all over the world! It's definitely a must try boba tea shop in LA! I would suggest that because their boba is so sweet and flavorful, I would do 0-25% sugar to balance out the drink. Not bad, but not great. We had two drinks, the Tiramisu Milk tea and the Grapefruit tea. We got both at regular ice and sweetness. The Grapefruit tea was just not that great. I've had that at a lot of tea joints and this was by far one of the most sour, without that sweet kick that is supposed to accompany it. The Tiramisu Milk tea was not bad tasting, but they really miss the mark with that cup. Their Tiramisu foam is way thicker than most tea places, but instead of the cups that open up with a slider so that you can sip the foam and milk tea at the same time, you either have to use a straw, which is not the best way to sip the foam/tea, or you have to sip from the hole, which is not viable given how thick the foam is. We did find the staff to be really nice, and we like the decorations. read more
