I usually love coming here. But the last time I came here. The service was terrible! I was ignored when I walked in. Had to grab my own menu, the waitress who dealt with a difficult customer before me had a bad attitude after that toward me. The other staff did the same and ignored me. People that came after me got their order in and I had yet to even get my drink order in! I was disappointed. This place usually the staff is courteous and kind. Rating based on ambiance and customer service. Im confident the pies I picked up will be delicious. I appreciate they have 2 sizes of pies to go; normal 9 inch, and a small version, maybe 4 inch. Therefore, I picked up more than 1 flavor to try. I walk into this diner and its like a throw back era to 60's. Wide space, straight low-line booths, colors updated, clean look. This is my absolute favorite place to eat! I've been coming here since I was 9 years old! The customer service is amazing! Ozzy is the sweetest human being. The food is so good and freshly made. The pies are literally my drugs. I could eat a whole one in one sitting! Ozzy makes you feel like you're a part of her family and welcomes you with open arms. There is only one thing you need to know about this place, and that's the pie. It is truly a thing of beauty. If it was just a pie place it would get 5 stars no problem. The waiting staff are all very nice, and it definitely has that small town retro dinner feel; i feel like im in a Tarentino movie every time im there. I think the Bush placard on the seat is a little creepy now but i thought it was really cool when i was a kid. As for everything else on the menu its no frills diner staples. This is the best rraditional American faire restaurant in Turlock. The food is what you would expect from a classic era diner. The pies are excellent and sell out fast. You can get many different types of food from "comfort" to "fast-food" to "homestyle" lunches and dinners. The breakfast is hearty and definitely classic era. Went here for breakfast on a weekend morning with my girlfriend given the reviews on yelp. And given the fact that we were new in town we wanted try different restaurant establisments. We got seated quickly since the restaurant was not incredibly busy. We ordered some of the breakfast combo and each of us ordered a slice of pie as well, given to rave reviews. The food was really not spectacular or anything and their pies altohough good were nothing memorable or anything to rave about. The thing that irks me the most about this diner is that we felt incredibly unwelcomed by the staff in the restaurant. My suspicion is that I am not of the same race of the entire restaurant including all the customers in the restaurant. We got repeatedly ignored for requests to get my coffee refilled even though the party of 4 right next to us got their coffee cups refilled repeatedly. Waitressess repeatedly walked by us complaining of the "stuffy air" while ignoring our empty glasses of water and coffee. On top of this our service was incredibly slow and the table of 4 next to us got seated later, ordered later but got their food first. While I do understand that some orders take longer to make, we were not ordering something very complicated. It's your regular pancakes, eggs and sausages. And I can assure you that the table of 4 next to us were not ordering bagels with cream cheese. All in all I would highly recommend this place if you are passionate about preserving anthropologically unique societies that are ancient and out of date. So that means don't go there for the pies and food if you are not the same race as the owners and workers in there. Unless of course you really hate yourself. read more

Saturday, April 6th 2019, my mom & I went to Latifs to have breakfast. We sat down, and the waitress came to our table, very polite. My mom asked the waitress if she could have her daughter who is a waitress there come bye our table she wanted to talk to her. A few minutes later we hear this shouting/yelling coming from up by the cash register. It was the so called manager & one of the waitress. All I do know is that it wasn't very professional of the manager to be shouting/screaming at any employee. Manager told employee:"NO YOU GO HOME & JUST REMEMBER I CAN FIRE YOU!!" Employee turned & walked into the kitchen area, which so did so called manager. Where you call still hear to shouting/Screaming. REALLY? DOES THIS SOUND PROFESSIONAL TO ANY OF YOU? Once it was quieter so called manager comes back out & she is standing at the wall behind the register with 3 other waitress. She's telling them who my mom & I are. All 3 of the waitress turn & look at me & my mom. Like who cares who we are. Just because You've made a complete ASS out of yourself in a busy restaurant, that your supposed to be the manager of, your NOT PROFESSIONAL AT ALL. I would suggest to take some CLASSES ON HOW TO TREAT YOUR EMPLOYEES & HOW NOT TO BE A BULLY. Just to let you know I believe you broke some LABOR LAWS. I'm watching this all happened & can't believe this so called manager is at it again. Once people read this they will know who I'm speaking about; the waitress & the so called manager. So I want you to get this straight, I would never stick up for this waitress for any reason under the , but I hate to admit it that I'm sticking up for her about this BULLYING, NON- PROFESSIONAL WANT A BE MANAGER AT LATIF'S. Best Pie Ever! Breakfast is amazing, though place can get very crowded on weekends. Decor is traditional diner, refreshingly so, and staff are amazing. Classic dishes such as chicken strips, French dip and more have never disappointed. But I really come here for the pie. Did I mention they have fresh peach pie in summer? To die for! I'm giving it 2 stars because i've lived in Turlock my entire life and I am very proud that we still have this establishment as it is part of our history.. and yeah, the pies are good. i remember when i was younger, going in for pie and coffee.. and so i finally took my husband in to see how cute and old fashioned it was.. and the service was pretty bad. we got up to serve our own coffee and instead of saying, "oh, i'm sorry, let me get that"... they said, "oh go ahead, it's okay". The first time we went ... we were so excited to be there and gave all this credit in advance.. and on a weekday morning.. there were like 3 other customers in there.. around 10am. .. so my husband decided to give it another try about a week later.. and yeah, he got his own coffee again. i inquired about reserving the cute room upstairs for an event my family was planning and the manager took my number so the owner could call me and give me all the details... this was in March.. it's May now and still no call. it is a really neat place to visit and maybe get a slice of pie but, in this day in age.. I hate the word "retro" (defined as "Involving, relating to, or reminiscent of things past"), and the word doesn't apply to Latif's because it is authentic and not an embarassing Happy Days-type replica of the mid-century coffee shops and diners that have mostly disappeared from the roadsides of our great nation. I'm sure Latif's was considered fabulously modern when it was built in 1959, and tacky in 1969 and 1979. Thankfully, the owners didn't do a horrid "update" in the 1960's or 70's, (like the Three's Company meets Kountry Kottage interior of Ole's in Alameda), and they left it alone to become cool again. The cheeseburgers are delicious, the waitresses nice, and the service fast. They also didn't mind when we took dozens of photographs after our lunch, and even let us go into the closed section. I will take every opportunity to go there and bask in its turquoise and orange glory, despite the two-hour drive. read more

From the food to the service everything about this place is from a bygone era... all of the servers are friendly and the food is classic comfort food... just like grandma used to make. My wife and I have been going there for breakfast almost every Sunday morning for over 20 years. The prices are a bit high for diner food, but the food is well prepaired and good. Most of the wait staff have been there for many years and are very friendly and efficient. The owners are very personable. I was in town for a family reunion and we wanted to have a turkey dinner-a pre-Thanksgiving. I used to live in Turlock, so called every place I know who might have done it. Only Latif's came through! Not only was the food delicious and plentiful, and the price reasonable, but the extra care they put into making sure that we had a nice family dinner was great! Wow this place used to be great before I left for the military. Now it seems to have lost its outstanding service. We were the only people in the entire restaurant and it took 45 minutes to get a burger and a sandwich. The sandwich had to be taken back twice because they had the wrong bread and they put mayo. Then they brought it back with mayo still on it. After that we ordered chicken strips with a side of barbecue. We got home and there was a fly in the box and ya know what else? Yeah you guessed it, no barbecue sauce. It's a shame. Other than that the food tastes good. Not worth the subpar service though. Unless it's for their pie. Great food Great service competitive menu and prices family place, they have a down stairs restroom for those who need it the others are upstairs, very clean and accommodating, BUT there always has to be THAT one the makes a fit now and then and this particular day SUNDAY 2/28/16 there we were in a packed restaurant standing room only enjoying our food our family and our conversation when this large lady started complaining to her waitress about her food, the waitress was very helpful trying to resolve her issue, 2 or 3 times she tried to rectify her problem, the next step the waitress brought her manager over explained the situation and the gal started yelling at the manager she was really angry so the manager offered her to step outside so not to disturb the other customers well that just seemed to make matters worse and gave this gal an open mic she just cut loose as the manager was trying her best to calm the lady, the WHOLE restaurant could see this ladies lips moving but couldn't tell what she was saying pretty sure it wasn't something you wanted to hear and especially on SUNDAY with your family, this lady had no cooth, no respect for her self or her surroundings, she could have used a bit more control of her mouth act more like a lady instead of a junk yard dog on the hunt, Kudos to the manager who was calm collected and professional in what she was trying to do, GREAT JOB manager, when the manager came back in everyone clapped for her because of the great job she did in handling an out of control customer a situation that lady took to far read more

But one morning the manager (Ozzy) decide to have an attitude towards my elderly grandmother mentioned something about the table being extremely dirty and the seats were sticky (table was set up). I felt out of place at first because I was the only person that wasn't white in there but everyone greeted my with a smile and they were all real nice. Sadly, I've never been to the restaurant, so I can't rate all their offerings. I have had their fruit pies a number of times at the Stanislaus County Fair, and they are superb! My husband and I have lived in Turlock for 38 years and have gone to Latif's for all of those 38 years. This restaurant is a local treasure where many of Turlock's residence come to enjoy a great meal along with great company. I know the Owner, the managers, the waitresses, the cooks, the pie makers and the kitchen staff....you will never a meet a better group of people who love and care about their customers. Latif's caters the food for the entertainers who come each year for the County Fair, and if the food is good enough for the high class down to earth celebrities then it's obviously too good for Wanda L. I would like to take this opportunity to tell "Wanda L." to stay in Modesto and terrorize the restaurants there. What Wanda failed to mention was that she was the aggressor in the "disagreement" over her meal with the Manager, everyone in the restaurant saw and heard the whole thing. The Manager asked Wanda to step outside so the families in the Restaurant didn't have to hear HER foul mouth. Apparently Wanda has never meet a meal she didn't like, and doesn't realize that the salt and pepper on the table are free and she could have seasoned the food herself. I think Wanda was looking for a free meal because most restaurants will comp a meal for a customer who complains or yells loud enough. I think you were mad you had to pay for your food Wanda. Pie? Yes! You must have a pie when you come in. they bake em fresh in house. all the locals order from this place for holidays and parties. The atmousphere in the dinner is clean restored 1960s diner. Origonal booths maybe but with good leather upholstery. Kids and I sat at the bar and ordered sandwiches. all was good, homemade food. great place to go for predictable american diner food. not greasy spoon. just great fresh homecook type faves. and the pie, must have pie and coffee! read more

Well I hadn't been to Latifs for over a year due to previous disappointments and they lived up to their reputation again! Went in for lunch with mom. She ordered an egg salad sandwich and soup. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich with soup. The waitress came back and said they were out of egg salad. Mom being 85 needs to eat soft food. But she said OK she would take a chicken salad sandwich. The waitress really talked up the sandwich and how good it was. It was noon and there were very few people there. Then the waitress came back with two very small 1/2 sandwiches. One for mom and one for me. There was almost no meat on the sandwich and of course no lettuce or anything. Just bread. When I told her we had requested a full sandwich for each of us she said they ran out. The soup was terrible. It was split pea that was barely warm. She said since we only got a half sandwich she would give us a piece of pie. Well she brought a piece of pie but she had cut it in half! When I went to pay they charged us for full sandwiches and a piece of pie. I told the cashier we only got 1/2 sandwiches and the pie was supposed to be free. She said our waitress was gone and we had to pay the full amount. That was the straw that broke the camels back. Bad food, S-L-O-W service, poor waitress and worse cashier. I will not go back until they get new owners.....if they ever get new owners. Oh no bathrooms for the handicapped. Bathrooms are up a long flight of stairs with no ramp. read more

I and my family have gone to Latifs for nearly 50 years. If you want a good, home cooked meal or sandwich, this is the place to come. You don't have to wait to be seated, just go to the booth or table that you will be most comfortable in. For those who complained it took a long time to be served, I wonder, did you order chicken? They don't pre-cook food to set til it is asked for, and the chicken takes awhile to cook! I have never had a "bad" experience at Latif's! It is our favorite place! read more

I am from the Midwest and every diner worth its weight has open face roast beef sandwich and mash potatoes and grave over the whole thing. In this case peas came with it and a salad. Looking forward to a little taste of home I ordered this time honored American home cooked comfort. From top to bottom, it was the worst, by far and inedible. I pretty much will eat anything. But this! was awful. The two or three thin slices of beef could have been anything. I knew it was beef though, cause it was laced with fat and gristle. The gravy was packaged and bland and tasteless. The potatoes were not tasteless. A soapy flavor of day old instant potatoes with the consistency of paste. The peas... mush. Now I can eat mushy peas, but if you closed your eyes it could have been anything. No pea flavor. Amazing. The salad came ice cold and could have been the highlight. Problem was, it was frozen in the middle and brown. It couldn't have been made during the week I was there. The place was clean and the waitress recommended the meal. Seeing the picked at plate she was careful to avoid asking how I liked it. Too bad, I paid my ticket and left. They have to know how bad the food is. read more
