The food was good and the service was excellent. Portions are large except for the coconut flan (my favorite) but it was delicious!! I enjoyed eating in the patio dining area at my first visit and dined inside in my recent visit. The interior reminds me of a typical family restaurant in San Diego. I really wanted lunch because I was only in town briefly but they were serving breakfast. The server asked to see if they could make the churrasco for me and they obliged! I had many of my favorites from my visit last year including the flan de coco and two cups of cafe con leche. The prices are outstanding, service is great and the food is very tasty and delicious! So we were in the area and needed a quick lunch. My business colleague suggested here says he eats here everyday. Once we arrive even though it was 2 pm on a Friday it was packed. We luckily got one of the parking spaces available behind the restaurant. Once inside we were greeted immediately and shown a booth for the four of us. The waitress was great she took our drink and food order within minutes of sitting down which we needed to get in and out. I got a ginormous dish of fried yuca it was to be an appetizer but the four of us couldn't finish it. I feel the yuca could have been cooked more crispy. It was a bit underdone. The cuban bread basket with melted butter was too delicious I could feel my waistline expanding with each bite. Lastly my bowl of chicken soup it was delicious not the best I think La Carretta is better. I would definitely come back and try one of there many orher menu choices. Especially liked their daily specials maybe I can get hubby to cross the county line on a Sunday as the special is Chicken and rice that day. read more

Greeted immediately with a smile and a warm welcome! There are so many choices on the menu. We decided to try this appetizer assortment and were glad we did. The only complaint was that the pork was dry. We also ordered 2 different sandwiches: one steak and one pork & ham. The sandwiches were huge and tasted wonderful! Latin Cafe is hit or miss. Their churrasco is usually a hit. The black beans are consistently good too. However, for 3 meals in a row, the rice was over cooked and dry. I had the red snapper on another visit and was disappointed as it was overcooked too. At this writing, I had the Bistec de Palomilla and although the flavor was good, it was also a bit dry for my tastes. Back to the rice...I mean, come on. They either cook one huge batch at the beginning of lunch and serve it all day or they just plain old don't know how to make rice. Is it lack of training? Just lack of quality control? I don't know. I do know that a little place one block away called La Granja has consistently great rice. It's always nicely cooked, flavorful and never old or dry. Latin Cafe's management should give it a try and learn how they do it. Look, this may come across as slamming Latin Cafe and I really don't mean to come across that way. I usually stay at a nearby hotel with my work travels and I always look forward to coming here. They just need to be more consistent and clean up the rough edges. The place is clean and the staff is genuinely friendly while providing good service. If it were not for the staff, I would've rated 2 stars due to the inconsistent food quality. read more

We came here for lunch before our flight to Cuba. At first, we hesitated about having Cuban food before going to Cuba. Did we really want to have it if that was all we were going to eat for a week? Well, I am so glad we ate here. The experience was absolutely wonderful. The menu is huge with lots and lots of options, much like a diner. I agonized about what to order. Everything looked so good. Eventually I settled on the omelette with plantains, which was fluffy and savory. My husband had the churros, which were light and delicious, and the steak sandwich, which also was yummy. In looking at the plates of our fellow diners, you could see that you couldn't make a single mistake in ordering there. Everything appears to be fresh and smelled so good. Our waitress was so kind and attentive. She said that she worked there for 12 years. You could also see many repeat customers there, with whom she was speaking; she definitely had her regulars. We had a break in between flights for out return home a week later, and tried to return for dinner. However, we were short on time, and were disappointed when we were unable to make it. If we make it back to Miami, we will WITHOUT QUESTION, go back there. We loved this place. YOU MUST GO! read more

If you are lucky enough to get Jovana as your server (not sure of the spelling, but she used to work for the Latin American in Vizcayne) she is extremely efficient and and will not steer you wrong. This place was conveniently across the street from my hotel, so my friends and I decided to try it. We were seated pretty quickly. We got cuban bread while we waited. I ordered the palomilla and we got a pitcher of sangria to share. The steak was delicious. Our server brought our cups full of fruit and poured our sangria at the table and left the rest of the pitcher. I bought the Creole Shrimp plate with sweet plantains and steamed vegetables. I had ordered just that and saw that I get a free Elena Guava sandwich for checking in on Yelp and showed it to them because why not? They added it to my order and told me that the offer had expired so I told them that I don't want it anymore. The guy next to me ordered and paid for a cafe con leche for me (very sweet of him). The order came out to $30 and at first, I thought maybe the shrimp plate was pricier than I thought so I hit "print receipt" to view my order. They never gave me my receipt. When I looked on the menu, the shrimp plate itself should have only been $14.49 so I was confused. I asked them for my receipt when I finally got my food (where she dug out of the trash to find it for me) and I saw that they charged me for the Elena Guava Sandwich and the cafe con leche. I should have spoken up about it at the restaurant but I had a flight to catch so I had to leave as soon as I got my food. When I opened my container, I see 5 shrimps and 3 plantains...idk if that's normal..but I guess for $15, that's fine. The fact that I paid $30 for that, I'm not super happy with. They did add the sandwich in my bag but I wouldn't have ordered it if it weren't for the (expired) offer..the food itself was ok but I'm pretty disappointed in the portions (just because a ton of reviews say that the portions here are normally huge) and the service. read more
