I love to cook and my daughter doesn't. Since I'm 87 she thought it would be easier to order takeout for Thanksgiving dinner. WHAT a mistake. We followed the directions for heating. I should have taken the potatoes and stuffing out of the containers, whipped the potatoes, and put some broth in the stuffing and heated them on the stove. They were hard. I love squash but I peel them. With the skins on they were tough. Followed instructions for the turkey. It was so dry we couldn't slice it. The apple pie was edible but the apples weren't cooked enough. I'm usually not a complainer but this was over the top BAD! It wasn't a complete disaster as I had also cooked a ham. We received exceptional food and impeccable service from our personable server, who was very patient with our talkative children. Our first time here and we arrived at opening and opted for the patio on a glorious sunny day. We ordered oysters on the half shell, fried Brussels sprouts, short rib, steak, Mac n cheese and sweet potatoes. I am not exaggerating when I say that every dish was cooked and presented perfectly. I'm a sucker for a good Mac n cheese and this one was the best around, big shells with bacon and Gouda but not too smoky. The short rib dish was tender, the sunny egg still hot, the veggies a nice low carb side. The portions were very generous. Our two kids adventurously tried new flavors and loved it too. On a Friday night, my boyfriend called 10 minutes in advanced to see if there were seats available. They said the only seats available were at the bar. However, when we arrived 10 minutes later, half the restaurant was empty so we were able to be seated at a table so I felt that we were misinformed. We were seated in a dark corner at a very small table near the bathrooms. I was not pleased with this as there were plenty of other seats available anywhere else. Our server was super nice though! We tried the chicken carbonara and seafood paella. The chicken carbonara was okay. It wasn't anything to rave about. However, the seafood paella was extremely salty. Great staff, upon arriving we were greeted right away we made reservations via "YELP" were asked if it was our first time we explained that this is our anniversary they said congrats and then the host a little later came back with a complimentary bottle of champagne, it was very nice of them. Lovely sit down casual bar and seafood restaurant near the Big E exhibition grounds. We were at the Big E and had lunch here afterwards. The building doesn't look like much, but inside was nice and cozy. There's a bar side and main dining room. We had fresh raw oysters and little neck clams that were excellent. The steamers (clams and mussels) was in a lovely garlic white wine broth, huge and great value for $16 (fresh but slightly over cooked, so a little chewy), the scallop risotto was ok (huge portion for the price). The fried Brussel sprouts were also excellent. It's seafood, so not cheap but fairly priced and solid for the convenience. We'd come back. read more

From a former chef perspective I truly love this place as well as the atmosphere, the menu is creative and very unwesternmass like. I only say that because the food around here is typically not the best... it's not creative it's not fresh! This is why I love latitudes so much! Second time dining here. Again, not so impressed by the food or the service. We came here for the Sunday brunch without a reservation. Luckily we got seated right away. In general, food portion was big, flavor was ok but not outstanding, the menu was limited, wait time was long, and dish presentation was under expectation (the salad was served on a small plate and there was no way to mix it. Ingredients kept falling and it was hard to eat). We didn't like the service we received today. The waiter was attentive but not so friendly. I was a little offended by the his attitude actually, he made us feel like we were wasting his time by not starting to order right away. I remember leaving the same impression with the service here from last time. It's not cool in my opinion given the vibe from the Springfield community being very nice and welcoming. We made a reservation for a Friday at 8 PM- thank god, it was busy. They seated us in this back room that's hidden but was enjoyable because it was not as loud as the other rooms. The decor is nothing special but the foods great. The calamari is different, has a red sweat sauce that tastes kinda like a Asian with a minor kick or hot and spicy. Never have we had calamari served like this so we really enjoyed this change- You get a lot of tentacles and fully body in the dish as well as rings. It is enough for 2-3 people. I had a salad Mass salad. This salad was excellent and dressing was perfect. I would come back to try other salads on the menu. The Fra Diavolo did not have in the dish that was stated in the menu, no clams, and no octopus was in this dish. We told the waitress but she did not say anything. My spouse still ate it but it would have been nice if the cooks shared this important menu change with servers. That's the basics... Still was very good. Another guest with us had the filet she said it was the best she her had. Our cocktails were done well! The crème brûlée was one of the best we have ever had! You could really taste the flavors and the crisp top layer covered the entire dish. Love love loved it! The dishes here are not on the reasonable end but quality makes up for it. The dishes do not match the decor but who cares when you get quality meals! In a way Sisyphus had it better. To be eternally banned by the Gods of Olympus to have to roll that boulder up hill and just before reaching the top to have it roll back down. He, at least, almost got to the top. Dining out in Springfield is more akin to perpetually searching, hoping and praying that possibly this one "next place" might suffice as a decent, reliable place to eat. Alas Latitude is a place there's no need to know the longitude to find. I ate there last night after trying to find a place nearby, anywhere that could make for a good dining experience. Not here. Here's the stats on a simply horrible dining experience - courtesy of Zagat (1-30, 30=Exceptional) Food - 4 Decor - 3 Service - 16 Price - 6 These are almost certainly amongst the lowest scores I've ever given. A couple lowlights. Our server came by with the vim and vigor to set an expectation that there might be a possibility of some enjoyable fare. After asking about food and beverage ratings I settled on a rum drink, brussell sprouts appetizer and fettuccine carbonara. The carbonara we were told was "amazing" (probably the first warning sign) and fresh made from scratch pasta. It is new to the menu and very popular. It was in a word. Terrible. Perhaps the single worst pasta dish I've ever had and that includes the subpar Olive Garden. I might best describe it as a bowl of glop mxed with any number of ingredients almost none of which stood out. The sauce was heavy, thick and gloppy and in addition the volume was excessive. Oddly this dish had less on the bacon/pancetta side and quite a bit of chicken. Chicken? Yes, chicken. Aside from an over abundance of a strange combination of overly seasoned spices it was bland and tasteless. Presentation seemed to be an after thought. To accompany this dish were my mixed drink and Brussels sprouts. The sprouts which I've had here one with drinks are quite good. Well made, tasty and with a slightly overly sweet side sauce. For this veggie only I would rate them as in the 13-16 range. The beverage which was a Bermudian favorite was most certainly not one last night. I am dubious that the rum was the proper variety/brand and the ginger beer was flat and it was lacking the key garnish of a lime wedge. Irs a shame because this is one of the easiest and most fool proof summer drinks to maje. I give the server high er marks not because they were especially good but that they realized that my entree was not good and kindly offered to provide a substitute dish. Right move and well played. So far as commentary on other positive reviews. Certainly its possible their meals somehow were substantively better but my guess, my default, is they don't know any better because there doesn't seem to be anywhere locally (besides Hampden House) that has a clue. Love this place. Been here for after work drinks at the bar and most recently, reservations for a sit down dinner. Always get the fried sprouts, everybody who know what's up gets the brussels. Tonight, the wifey got the Evans chicken and I got the pork parmigiana. Both meals were beautiful in presentation and equally in taste. Place was dreary and dark. Cold inside and so unappealing. Just looks like they plopped a bunch of tables in an undecorated room. Duck came out cold and got sent back. Coke tasted like their soda lines are mildewed. Server knew of dairy allergy and dropped the ball on the truffle fries with CHEESE on them and cheese is not in the description which is odd to say the least. No discounts offered. Certainly won't return. 150 dollars for garbage. Server looked perplexed when we asked for vanilla vodka like they never heard of it. Not returning unless it's free. Ugh read more

Imagine meeting a woman with Anne Hathaway's physical makeup and the intellect of Eleanor Roosevelt. (Now, this is not to say that Anne Hathaway is a dummy or that Eleanor Roosevelt was not a looker.) Rather, what I'm getting at is that if you combine these two things, you get quite a woman (me personally, I'd spend the next 20 minutes totally flabbergasted before attempting to impress her with my knowledge of macropolitical trends... "Hey, you want to hear about dynamic representation?" Works every time :) ). But in terms of food, my best-of-both-worlds metaphor applies to Buffalo Chicken Mac and Cheese. Lattitude nails this perfectly, combining breaded chicken chunks doused in buffalo sauce with cheese-covered shell macaroni goodness, all combined together perfectly. The buffalo does not overwhelm; the cheese does not overwhelm, it's all just there, perfectly in sync with each other. Lattitude itself is a fascinating place: it seems out of place across the street from The Big E, a Boston-style restaurant in the middle of a much less urban metro. But it works. The style of the restaurant is well-crafted, though the area is a little small at times. However, they make what they make quite well. This extends to the drinks. I had a chance to imbibe on an Egg Nog Martini. Damn that was good. You want your egg nog martinis to taste like, well, Egg Nog, and this one hit the spot perfectly. We also started out with some fried Brussels sprouts. Now I know what you are thinking (EW!). But these were good! The sprouts were made even better with the help of a garlic aioli, which added a nice bite of flavor to the mix. Finally, I had the peppermint creme brulee. It was outstanding. They also have a lot of other great options, including different steak and seafood options, and as Annie notes, is also seasonally based. It was a little slow in terms of service, but it's a creative addition to a region (Western Mass and West Springfield) that needs more creative additions. read more

What a stunning restaurant! Who would have expected to find such a world-class fine-dining experience located along Memorial Avenue in West Springfield, MA? Lattitude can be found in a small bricked building which is directly across from the main gates to the "Big E" exposition fairgrounds in this western Massachusetts town. Lattitude's Executive Chef Jeffrey Daigneau literally grew up in the restaurant industry, and later graduated from the prestigious Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. He went on to star at several prestigious New York City and Massachusetts Cape Cod restaurants before returning home and opening Lattitude in 2008. Chef Daigneau brought the farm to table concept to western Massachusetts with his creative ideas which flow from the pages of his menus by way of grilled beef tenderloin with white sweet potato puree, pan seared scallops in a candied walnut sage cream sauce, fried Brussels sprouts with sweet chili aioli, and much, much more. He has definitely brought fun and fine dining to the area. I made a weeknight reservation, and it turned out to be a good thing since the restaurant was quite full. In addition to the large dining room, they have an event hall where a friend of mine is having his wedding reception later this year, and an outdoor patio with a gas fire pit and live music. Everyone told me that I *HAD* to order the fried Brussels sprouts appetizer, and the darned thing was exceptional. Imagine very fresh Brussels sprouts, split in half length-wise, then quickly pan-fried, and served with a sweet chili aioli dipping sauce. You cannot believe how amazingly melt-in-your-mouth delicious this tasted. The recipe seems so very simple, that I have to give it a try at home. For my main course I had the Blackened Ahi Tuna entrée which was seared sushi-grade tuna which came with wasabi-mashed white sweet potatoes. There was also a side of Napa cabbage apple slaw, sprinkled with crispy wontons and a mango Habanero dressing. Good Lord that was awesome! My server, Emily, tried her best to talk me into one of their homemade desserts, but I was absolutely stuffed. She was an outstanding server, giving me all sorts of recommendations about the menu, and then chatting with me when she found out that I was from Florida. I learned a lot about the restaurant from visiting with her. Truly amazing food that is worth the drive from anywhere in the Pioneer Valley! I'll be a regular when I'm back in town. read more

This place really deserves a 4.3-4.5. If I'm in town, I plan to go back. I went this afternoon (Sunday, 24 April 2016) after church for a couple of cocktails and a bite. I had a good experience. FOOD/MENU As I said, I was there for (Sunday afternoon) brunch so I didn't see the full menu. But the brunch menu looked good. And the "Latta-burger" (I think that's what it's called) was very good. There are definitely expensive things on the menu but most of the stuff is pretty mid-range, not too bad at all. In fact, for bar food this was a pretty good experience. The menu wasn't overwhelming either, and I really appreciated that. DRINKS/BAR The brunch menu had three Four Roses-based cocktails, which always makes me happy. The draft beer list was good and I saw Chimay in the fridge (which is an automatic thumbs up). The menu wasn't too overwhelming, actually, and I enjoy that. The two Four Roses-based cocktails I had were quite tasty, and the first one was just right in terms of strength. The bar had quality scotch and other whiskies as well as other things. The bar area was very clean as well, and two TVs are mounted. SERVICE/STAFF The service was good and folks were very nice, from the lovely hostess that greeted me warmly as soon as I walked in to the folks behind the bar. On top of that, the staff seemed to enjoy what they were doing (talking and laughing with each other, etc.). SETTING/VENUE The place looks great on the outside and on the inside. It's a big establishment. The bar area is very nice but they also have a reception room in the back, a small intimate dining part (which may be a reserved space as well), and a lovely outdoor patio. Some outdoor patios are not that nice (e.g. ugly furniture and such) but this one was very nice. (I almost took a picture!) The bathroom was very fancy as well. Even the walls were very nice. Looking for a late lunch/early dinner with the family and we came across this place. It was late in the afternoon and coming to the end of lunch. Danny was the server and he was super helpful with an allergy we have in the family. We both got the scallops and my daughter got the burger. Scallops were good - lunch portion of three large scallops. Service was great! Not a fan of the desserts - The cheesecake was dry and the base soggy. Cannoli was good, if a little light on the filling. The chocolate bombe base was dry and mostly mousse. Meh. If we go again we will just skip dessert. read more

Went to Lattitudes on Saturday night starting the evening with great promise and ending with unfortunate disappointment. We entered without anyone in the front showing us our table until the maitre d finally showed up. Sat down with our friends showing up minutes later with the same issue. Our waitress was very nice and our appetizers were excellent especially the vegan meatballs, little leaf salad and the tomato burrata. We ordered a bottle of wine which was good but when the bill came the price of the wine was higher .The waitress acknowledged the price on the bill was wrong but said they wouldn't honor the mistake on the wine list and charged us the higher price.For a bill over $200 they wouldn't honor their $17 error! It's a place we would have returned on multiple occasions but not being customer oriented on this issue makes its disappointing for all of us! read more
