I had been wanting to try Latuli for months. I finally went there to celebrate a friend's birthday, and unfortunately, I left disappointed. I will say that the interior design is beautiful. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and feels like a great place for a special occasion. I ordered the filet steak, which was supposed to come with a side salad. The steak portion was surprisingly small--we both commented on it as soon as it arrived. It looked like it was only about 2 ounces, just a few bites. Unfortunately, even the steak itself wasn't anything special. The flavor was very ordinary and didn't stand out from what you could get at a much less expensive, more casual restaurant. The "salad" was essentially just a handful of plain greens with no dressing or any other ingredients, which felt like an afterthought. My friend ordered the pizza. It was fine, but there wasn't anything particularly special or memorable about it. For the price and the restaurant's reputation, I expected a much more satisfying meal and a better overall experience. Sadly, aside from the beautiful interior, it didn't live up to the hype, and I don't think I'd return. read more

We heard about this place from Texas Monthly. It's worth ALL the hype! The dining room is beautiful. (The patio and bar are area are equally pretty.) We tried many dishes- the bread service-don't miss this. Those rolls are worth every carb! Chicken and hummus-I thought it was meh, compared to the many items we enjoyed. But the rest of the table really enjoyed it. Corn dogs-special item for the rodeo. They were very, very good and should be a permanent addition to the menu. My husband I shared the boar Ragu and crab cake. (I can't remember what the other couple had as their mains) The crab cake was very tasty. But that ragu was the star. Amazing. We've recently returned from Tuscany and this dish compared to those. The pasta was perfect al dente. And the boar was perfectly cooked and seasoned. We tried several cocktails. I had the cactus kick. Yum! Hubby had a few whiskey drinks. And we also had the margarita Jell-O shots. Fun! And dessert. The lemon tart and blackberry cobbler. Daniel was our main server. It was all of our first time here at Latuli and it was a fun place to celebrate a birthday or just have a dinner out. The ambiance was nice , with cozy dim lighting and low upbeat music. Latuli's food was good, though a bit heavy, and the service was lacking. While it's an absolutely beautiful buildout and I think it will do well in that location, Latuli isn't my favorite restaurant. Our table ordered quite a few dishes to share, and none of them were bad, and none of them were amazing--and there were just SO many options on the menu that I didn't really know where to start. Here are the items I would order again: -Bread service: The parker house rolls were OK, but the cornbread is what made this dish great--perfect flavor and perfectly cooked, with whipped butter on the side. -Chicken and hummus: It's exactly what it sounds like--fried chicken tenders on a bed of hummus. The only item I wish we hadn't ordered was the peach cobbler for dessert. The flavor was super tart and not as sweet as I would have hoped, but the real fault with the dish is that it took 30+ minutes to come out to the table. Way too long of a wait without any warning. Service generally was sparse. The restaurant was super busy on a Friday night, and staff was not attentive. Our server didn't come to take drink orders until 15 minutes after we sat down, and those drinks took 15 minutes more to come out. Just not great service. read more

Came here for a girls brunch and the restaurant vibes were super cute! We got the eggs Benedict, the steak and frites, and a carne asada dish. I can't remember the specific name of the dish, but the carne asada dish was the best one! It was super flavorful. Was topped with sunny side up eggs and served with tortillas. For dessert, we got the pain perdu and that was excellent. We came on a Sunday so we parked in the empty lot across the street since the business was closed. I hate valeting my car so that was the biggest con of this place. read more

I went to Latuli for a small birthday celebration, the service was wonderful and the food was really good. The only thing we didn't care for was the steak that we ordered. It was pretty bland, there wasn't anything special about it and it was slightly overcooked. However, we did have some other dishes that were delicious like the seared snapper and our favorite was the Linguine al Funghi (I would totally come back just for this!) We also ordered a dessert, the cobbler which was yum (surprisingly it wasn't complimentary for my birthday). read more

I have a number of thoughts for you. First, I was served a bowl of chicken and dumplings with no dumplings. I was searching through my bowl while the server was looking on to see if she could find any. When she realized that there were none, she promptly had the kitchen bring out some dumplings. I was disappointed that I was served a dish that was not complete. My wife enjoyed her duck gumbo. We liked the chicken and hummus. The brussels sprout salad was very good, but I must admit that the highlight of the meal for me was the crème fraîche cheesecake. That was the best. The restaurant was beautiful. It is a bit loud inside. The service was very very good. Next time we might sit in the bar as it seems, it's a bit quieter in there. Overall, it was a very positive experience. Disappointing. First of all, they only offer $8 valet parking. This place is not in the loop. It's off of i-10 so why they do not have any designated self parking is confusing. We had a Rez in the lounge for 7:30pm but after 30 min of waiting, we decided to leave. read more

Houston has no shortage of restaurants that promise exclusivity, but LaTuli needs to understand that exclusivity requires more than dim lighting and high prices. It requires execution -- and on my recent visit, execution was exactly what was missing. We arrived expecting a full dining experience, only to learn -- after being seated -- that the restaurant was serving brunch only. No mention of that beforehand. The dining room itself was in mid-Christmas decoration mode, which did little to enhance the atmosphere and a lot to remind us we'd come at the wrong time. The food, unfortunately, did not compensate. I was served what can only be described as a three-ounce bowl of cacio e pepe for $26, a dish that managed to be both underdone and dry -- no small feat for a pasta whose entire character depends on sauce and texture. The simple green salad, priced at $24, was topped with a dressing so harsh it rendered the salad itself inedible. Service didn't help matters. The wait staff, though pleasant enough, seemed unsure of the menu, unsure of the flow, and unsure of the very idea of what a "high-end dining room" is supposed to feel like. Houston is blessed -- almost overrun -- with excellent restaurants at far more reasonable prices. In a city with this much competition, you simply cannot charge luxury-level prices for half-formed ideas and poorly executed plates. LaTuli still has time to course-correct, but time is not unlimited. If they don't refine the menu, train the staff, and deliver the level of quality their pricing presumes, they will struggle to last six months. Houston diners are willing to pay for excellence -- but they can spot a pretender in one meal. read more

We had a very disappointing experience, especially given all the praise for this place. The food was just okay, and the wine by the glass was overpriced and served in small pours. Drinks that were presented as complimentary for a celebration were ultimately charged, and several menu items were misleadingly described and priced, resulting in a bill that was nearly double what we expected. When we brought these concerns to the manager, the response was unsatisfactory and did not resolve the issue. Because of this, we will not be returning and will be sharing our experience with others. read more

Latuli is somewhat new located in the Memorial Villages. The menu appeared limited but touched all the meat bases ( steak chicken pork chops and fish) with quality recipes. Our group was pleased with their selections with very good results that included appetizers and most of the desserts I had their duck gumbo and fries that was good but could have used a tad more flavor. I will return with photos of the food for better analysis. The wait staff - Kara was very professional and served our table of 6 easily. Delightful restaurant with creative, gulf coast-inspired menu. Service was exceptional and staff were extremely knowledgeable + passionate about the food and drink offerings. All of our food choices were delicious, fresh, and very satisfying. The oysters were curated and tasted wonderful with great texture. Some other highlights were the bread service (name doesn't do justice), gulf shrimp spring rolls, and seared snapper. Cocktails including the selection of mescal drinks were wonderful. One note to those who prefer to self park-- this restaurant is (mostly) valet only and getting in/out is somewhat tight. Love this place. Great ambiance and perfect patio from the Texas warm weather. Their patio is super pet friendly and all covered with elegant patio furniture. As for the food, I really enjoyed their bread service. I got their double dip, mussels and their version of a spring roll. All three appetizers were great. And since I was getting full from their bread, I just ordered the chicken. Can never go wrong with chicken, especially when it's cooked perfectly to where the meat can be cut with just a fork. I hate to give this place a bad review because the owner seemed very nice but hopefully this will help improve the restaurant. Ambiance was 10/10. We went to the bar while waiting for our table. The bartender asked us to close out our tab even before preparing our drinks. This was very strange for a restaurant of this caliber. Usually you either close out the tab after being served the drinks or have it charged with your table. I also had to ask for ice for my drink because it was luke warm which I felt strange doing. Food was underwhelming. The clams were overly briny. The barbacoa was strangely sweet and blah. The server described the chicken as "very flavorful" however it seemed under seasoned and overcooked. We skipped dessert. Our server was polite but seemed inexperienced. Valet was $8 and there is no option to self park at the restaurant. read more

What an incredible experience! Bryan Caswell & TEAM have really outdone themselves with this gorgeous & delicious gem! Came here for date night, being seafood lovers we pretty much had an all fish evening, grouper, snapper & crab cakes all were top notch and fantastic! Started off with the "chorizo & egg" puff pastry special as our appetizer - so good! The cocktails were great, the rosé was stellar, and the sweet potatoes veggie side was so delicious! The atmosphere and decor was incredible, I especially loved the art wall in the bar area! Our bartender Louis & waiter Jose couldn't have been better or better trained! Horrible experience. It was so loud and noisy you could not converse. The service was very very slow. It took forever to get our food and forever to get the check. The food was mediocre and terribly over priced. The pork chop entree was $48 and the meat was very dry and tasteless. The $41 grouper had little taste as well. Aperol Spritz $18. Rounding up from 3.5 stars to give them the benefit of the doubt. I wanted to love Latuli. The place is gorgeous, no doubt--it's giving upscale Mediterranean resort, and the patio is definitely date-night worthy. But the food? Kind of hit or miss. We started with the Shiner Bock mussels which were decent but super salty, and the double dip appetizer everyone talks about was...fine. I think I was expecting more wow. The rock shrimp tacos were fun and crispy, though. My orecchiette with sausage was flavorful but arrived lukewarm. Service was friendly and tried to be helpful, but it was chaotic--like they were understaffed or still figuring things out. Also, it gets loud inside. You're basically yelling across the table if you come during peak dinner. Wine list was cool if you're into boutique bottles, but I wish they had a few more by-the-glass options that didn't require asking the server to decode them. I'd give it another shot for the vibes alone, but not in a rush. Maybe better as a drinks-and-apps spot than a full dinner. read more

What a terrific experience? The restaurant is elegantly dressed. Very Texas sheik! Interesting wall decor with furnishings the complimented that decor without competing. We ate in the bar area . My understanding is that the larger general dining area is just as well appointed. The food is remarkable. A straightforward menu of super fresh high quality dishes. My appetite wasn't as big ascit should have been. I had a gin martini and the their slice salad (a version of a wedge) and mussels with Pom frites. Now, let me say this I have eaten this dish all over the world. I love it. This version made with Shiner Bock and wine is unique and delicious. With the crispy fried potatoes and garlic toast, you shouldn't miss it. Fish was the order of the day at our table! Snapper and Tuna I believe and the reviews were excellent. The only thing I regret is not getting to sample and of the beef or pork this trip. I'll remedy that soon on my next visit.. Five star. Put it on the calendar straight away!! read more

In any establishment, service starts as soon as a patron walks through the door. My date and I were greeted by the hostess and what we later realized was the som. It was less of a greeting from the som and more so him being present when we walked in. He didn't speak, only turned around. The som was staring at my date and I as if he had an issue or we didn't belong. His face was bunched up and never smiled, only stared as I spoke with the hostess. I eventually look at him and turn my back towards him to acknowledge him and to show that he is not a part of our conversation. We get seated and look through the menu. My date then mentions how the som made her feel uncomfortable/awkward without me mentioning how I felt. I agreed with her and asked if she wanted to leave but we stayed. The best part of Latuli is the decor and our server was nice. The menu is all over the place for Mediterranean food. There's Hispanic notes and Asian blends in their menu which is fine but again, all over the place. Our meal lacked flavor. Nothing about Latuli would make me come back. We should have went to Bar Bludorn but wanted to try something new. I definitely had second hand embarrassment when my date made the comment about the som, being the reason I wanted to leave.
