I have been a patient for a long time but my last visit was a nightmare They used to be real goof Saturday and late hours . however the pandemic changed all that . It is what it is. Due to a chronic condition . I try to go for a cleaning every 3 months . However due to work and life 5 months passed. When I finally got to my visit ., the dentist who obviously hates her job proceeded to berate and belittle me for not wanting to get some expensive deep cleaning that she was trying to push on me . I asked for alternatives. I explained that I was a nurse working through covid that wasn't good enough for her Ironic thing . once I changed dentist new dentist said my teeth were fine . I did not need the expensive treatment that they were trying to push on me to increase their profit margin It also bothers me that Lavaan is ok with a dentist that is verbally abusive to patients As a nurse I treat everyone with respect and dignity Obviously Lavaan and their dentists feel differently about this read more

While I'm thrilled with the results of the whitening, the inside of my mouth is cut from the cheek retractor. I've been in pretty constant pain since the appointment. Wouldn't recommend based on the lack of care when placing the retractor. read more

Good service and good experience. The office is clean and they get you in and out with minimal fuss. I came after a long day so I didn't feel like waiting too long. It looks like a spa in the office. Everything is so serene and quiet. I came for the express 30 minute whitening and I liked the experience. My teeth were a little sensitive coming out but nothing too bad. It all went away the next day. My wife said she saw a difference right away so I guess it was worth it. This isnt the cheapest thing to do but it is cool with me once in a while. read more

The last time I was here they told me I had 8 cavities! I thought that seemed excessive, as I had previously never had a cavity in my life until I started going here. I just got a 2nd opinion with full set of X-rays and I have NO cavities! The year prior, when I went to Lavaan, they did not take X-rays (I didn't want them) and they said there were 2.. I filled them not second guessing a dentist for car salesperson. During the filling, they told me one cavity was so large it cost more than the quote..thought that was a a bit shady.. BEWARE!!!! Deceptive pressure tactics!!! I have been a long time patient at Lavaan, coming in regularly for teeth cleanings. They are now using highly deceptive practices to pressure clients into expensive full exams. Steer clear!!! Last November, when I came in a for a cleaning, I was told that I was overdue for an expensive full exam that, under new regulations, they were required to perform once a year. I wasn't happy about it, but went ahead. I returned in April for a routine 6 month cleaning. I just went back for a summer cleaning, this week, and once in the chair, was told that I would need another, expensive, full exam, as the law requires them now every *six months*. When I questioned this, as I had been told in November that exams were only required once a year, I was fed a lot of fast talk about the law and the ADA. This appears to be a lie. (See Mayo Clinic link below.) To make matters worse, when I went to pay, the receptionist attempted to charge me for x-rays that had not been performed. I pointed out the price list on their website which clearly lists a lower fee. She got angry and told me that from then on, all future visits would be the full exam price. Needless to say, there will be no future visits. Going to the dentist is stressful enough. Being lied to, pressured, and then overcharged not once, but twice in seven months is unacceptable. Sadly, Lavaan has lost my trust and my business. I happened to have had a wonderful experience at Lavaan and have gone back. I found Lavaan in NY Mag's "Best of New York" section and always trust their judgement and they were right once again. I booked my appointment over the phone with Dr. Rappaport himself. I was impressed with the fact that a doctor answered the phone and was happy to assist me and answer my questions. When I arrived for my appointment the following week, the receptionist was very bubbly/friendly and offered me some water while I waited to be seen. The first time I went I had a cleaning and my pre-cleaning exam was very thorough and Dr. Rappaport gave me some tips for better dental hygiene and cleaning. After the pre-exam, I had my cleaning which was painless, quick, and easy. I was able to watch TV and listen through wireless headphones, which I thought was very cool and not something I have experienced in any doctors office before. I left with my teeth not only feeling cleaner, but looking whiter as well. They had done such a good job that I booked another appointment, which I had this week, for a whitening which came out great. The office is beautiful and cutting edge in terms of the technology. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful and definitely not annoying. I would highly recommend going to Lavaan if you are in need of an easy and painless cleaning or whitening. I will be going back to get an invisalign to help straighten out my teeth as well. read more

I had been going to the same dentist in the Midwest for nearly my entire life. When I moved to New York, I didn't think I could find a dentist that brought the same level of "family-style" care because literally everything in New York is difficult. Until I found Lavaan! You won't find a more clean, friendly, relaxing environment than this office. My dental hygienist was funny, personable and walked me through what was going to happen for my cleaning and whitening. The dentist who checked my teeth was nice and did a pretty thorough, but quick check of my mouth to make sure nothing was seriously wrong. They let me watch Harry Potter (Sorcerer's Stone) during all of this, too, which helped calm my nerves a bit. I also got a teeth whitening (my first) which was an experience but my teeth look superbly white. I think what's most unique about this place is that all of their prices for all services are listed on the website and in the office - which I've never heard of. Lavaan is worth checking out if you're searching for a new dentist or if you're unhappy with your current office! Definitely going to come back for another cleaning. read more

I had an amazing experience at Lavaan. I learned about it through NY Mag's "Best of New York" section, and they really live up to their reputation! When I called to schedule my appointment, the gentleman on the phone was extremely nice and helpful. I had to reschedule my appointment, and they were nothing but accommodating. When I arrived for my appointment, the receptionist incredibly nice and helpful. She even offered to refill the parking meter for me if I left her some change in case my session went longer than an hour. The actual office is really beautiful and chic. My cleaning was with Dr. Rappaport, and he was really professional and did a wonderful job. He gave me advice on how to improve my smile, and I honestly didn't feel like I was being "sold" on anything. I asked him to give me honest opinions on things such as bonding, whitening, etc., and I really felt like he was genuine with his responses and suggestions. I only stayed for a cleaning that time, but because of the wonderful experience, I am definitely coming back for whitening. The dental assistant was also incredibly nice and helpful during my session. My experience was so fantastic, I bought a package of 4 cleanings that day to use throughout the year. I visited Lavaan for my first-ever tooth-whitening last week and I am VERY pleased with the results! The process was quick and painless and I was lucky that I didn't experience the sensitivity that sometimes accompanies a whitening :) My teeth lightened 3 levels and I've had a few friends notice the difference! The staff was very nice and Dr. Rappaport met with me to walk me through the process before he began. The spa was more than comfortable and provides headphones and TV to watch while I lay there as my teeth whitened and when I was done I was offered Coconut Water too! Unethical practice, if you can avoid it. I would not recommend this service at all. The staff is unprepared to deal with basic billing purposes, on my case they mislead information about what would be covered by your FSA even after inquiring many times for different point person on this company. In the end, i had to pay the entire procedure out of pocket, even i was communicated i wouldn't, and they couldn't care even to keep a good relationship with a client and it's network. Do not use this company at all. You are better doing whatever procedure at your certified dentistry practice. read more

I started going to Lavaan b/c my dental insurance covers 2 cleanings a year, like normal, but I like to go every 3 months to prevent cavities. The cost to pay out of pocket at my regular dental office would have been WAY more than paying out of pocket at Lavaan spa (although they do accept insurance if you want to use it as one of your 2x visits). Now I look forward to being able to afford cleanings every 3 months and because of their flexible hours I don't always have to miss work to make a dr's appt. (win, win!) I also came to get a whitening treatment before my wedding. I thought it was going to hurt a lot more than it did so if you've heard horror stories I'd give it a try here! Everyone noticed and I still get compliments on my white chompers a year later :) I like how no-nonsense it is here and they don't make you wait 45 minutes just to start your treatment. I visited Lavaan in July 2020. My first experience a year prior was completely different - very positive. This time - I was an afterthought. The whitening hygienist was distracted the whole time, could barely work the machine, and was talking to other people in the hallway while trying to get me set up. My service was 3 15 minute sessions. They forgot about me in between each one and I had to scream with my mouth full into the hallway to get someone to start my next session. No one came to check on pain tolerance etc ONCE throughout the sessions. No one explained what to do in terms of foods to avoid afterwards, potential spots/stains etc. And mind you this service costs close to $400. It was completely unprofessional and I will never go back. I never write Yelp reviews but this place deserves a realistic rating. read more

Extremely mediocre. The place is gorgeous, but everyone there is both not super bright and incredibly annoying. First, this might have been my mistake, but I scheduled for what I thought was the next day and my appointment ended up being a week later. They say they take walk-ins, but when I showed up a week early, there were no dentists in the office. They also didn't know what I had scheduled for because the website is misleading in making you think you are scheduling a specific service when actually you aren't. When I tried to make helpful suggestions, the receptionist just told me all the reasons it was too challenging to improve it and how much more annoying it is for her than for anybody else. I finally gave up and almost cancelled at that point. When I arrived this week, there was a big stink about there being an "exam," which I hadn't expected, and was then excited about, but it was just an exam to make sure my teeth were not too disgusting for them to handle. I couldn't get any kind of guidance on the possible cavity I was concerned about, though I did get a giant sales pitch for Invisalign, which the dentist told me his wife (a full-service orthodontist uptown) would happily handle for me at a discount. The cleaning was meh. She talked nonstop about nothing and I couldn't actually see the TV for which I had been handed a remote control. She got lots of toothpaste on my face and the drain kept failing such that the water would overflow from my mouth and down my neck. This happened about 4 times before I started holding onto it myself. The equipment is shiny and pretty, but seemed less strong and effective than most dental equipment I've experienced. Instead of a sink for spitting out toothpaste, for example, they have a paper or plastic funnel attached to a vacuum tube. Maybe this is something new they are doing everywhere, but to me it kept feeling like I was playing dentist with my kid. My teeth didn't feel clean afterwards, so I went int he bathroom and brushed them again. They still don't really feel clean. I fail to see anything easier about this than a full-service dental office, and I still don't know if i have any cavities. If this is your only option for a cleaning, or you want whitening services, or you like a more frequent cleaning, Lavaan might be a good choice for you, otherwise, save your money for somewhere less annoying and more full-service. read more

Came here to do a cleaning- there is no new patient fee / forced dental exam package like most other dental offices have- and it is quite reasonably priced (for nyc anyway). My hygienist (Allison?) was amazing! Super conversational and did a great job. I can't say enough about my terrific experience at LAVAAN on the UES. From the moment I walked in, Tianna was welcoming and meticulous with my requests, physically calling my insurance company to ensure that all of my processes would be covered. She was incredibly kind and also saw to it that I could be fit in for an unscheduled additional procedure that same day. Dr Sohail was incredibly competent and I highly recommend her - she gave me honest advice about what would be best for my teeth and she beautifully fixed a defect to perfection that had been bothering me. I can't stop admiring her magical work! Harper was also terrific, teaching me as she examined my teeth and doing a very thorough job. Sewa and Dominka were also very attentive, kind, and reassuring. I went for teeth whitening and have to say I was disappointed. One of my front tooth has bonding and I asked over the phone if that is an issue. The guy said they are really good at matching and whatnot, so I went. There was none of the matching going on and they didn't even show me before and after difference on the little brightness chart. When I was done and looked in the mirror I was not impressed at all - the difference between my teeth and the one with the bonding was definitely bigger. I got tons of emails and calls from them afterwards asking if they can help with advice on care :) Will not go again. read more

Last visit, with owners absent, technician did not introduce herself by name, and clumsily fit mouthpiece so that it cut into inner lip, with deep abrasion and sensitivity that lasted a month. I've had my teeth cleaned at Lavaan a few times, and would definitely recommend it. I left my previous dentist because I was tired of being pushed to get services beyond the cleaning that I didn't want (or, I suspect, really need). Lavaan just does cleaning and whitening. The concept works perfectly for me. The whole staff is very nice. They take appointments in the evening and on Saturday, to accommodate people with nine-to-five jobs. Nothing but good things to say! I am Canadian and lived in NYC for one year, and decided to get braces to fix my teeth. Michelle was nothing but accommodating of my short timeline, and had my braces on and off without 6 months, permanent retainer put in, and a nighttime retainer all ready before I left the US. I highly recommend Lavaan based upon my positive treatment I received last Tuesday. I made my appointment through Dr. Rappaport, who was very warmly and receptive in answering my questions and concerns about whitening with ZOOM. I, also, met is wife, who is also a dentist on staff at Lavaan. The entire staff from the receptionist and dental assistant were extremely friendly and professional. Every inch of their office is immaculate and tastefully decorated to reflect the soothing colors of the ocean. The equipment they use is "state of the art" technology for whitening. I should know because I had the same procedure done ten years ago. I was able to have the procedure done in a private cubicle watching cable on a private flat TV screen. I felt super pampered there. They made me feel like a rock star! I was extremely happy with the results that I received from my ZOOM treatment and I will definitely use them again. I, also, received a follow-up call today from them to see how I am doing after the procedure, which speaks of their genuine concern for their patients. read more
