What a pleasant surprise this bakery was, they have a variety of pastries to choose from. I went with the guava mousse dessert, mango raspberry mousse, and lemon cheesecake. The mousses were ok, not bad, the mango raspberry had good flavor that tasted like real mango and so did the guava. but that lemon cheesecake though! Amazing. Never had or seen lemon cheesecake, I'm also not a big pastry person, but the lemon cheesecake was delicious. Not an overwhelming lemon flavor and moist. Will be back for that cheesecake and other options that were sold out! Also Great service and very clean and organized bakery. read more

When I got my pre-ordered "traditional 8" mocha yule log" home and looked at it, I was surprised. It only vaguely resembled the photo on their website. Not a fan of the plastic embellishments. There was one tiny 1/2" meringue mushroom on top and a white frosting blob with a silver plastic holly leaf (not marzipan) beside the log. You could see the cake thru the "bark" frosting; the whole effect seemed sloppily assembled. The cake was pieces of chocolate sponge formed into a rough log shape (see photo). There was a thin layer chocolate shell directly on the sponge. The sponge itself was tender and fluffy, tasting mostly of chocolate and sugar. The mocha flavor was very faint. I feel this 8" yule log was overpriced for the quality of work and flavor ($65). I was somewhat embarrassed to offer it at the end of the holiday meal. Its appearance and flavor seemed more appropriate for a child's party. read more

Was driving through the area and decided to stop in. The staff were friendly and gave us plenty of time too look things over and make our choices. We got a variety of things; apple turnover, cream puff, mini strawberry shortcake..etc. everything we had was delicious. They offered plenty of searing but we had to get back on the road. There get one star for probably having the best pastries in the area. They lose stars for these reasons - 1) they were the first and worst in price hike after Covid. Fine, all did. However, now it no longer feels like a bakery when a regular cup of coffee is overpriced and stale!! How do you call yourself bakery if your patron cannot count on you for a good cup of coffee? 2) are you still living Covid? Bring back inside chairs, real cups and utensils. It does not feel like a bakery cafe experience drinking in paper cups outside the bakery. I just hope no price hike for keeping chairs inside. Even the cheapest coffee shops have indoor chairs. 3) Support the environment - your compost is going into trash. No recycle bins. No plans to go back. If I'm going to pay $8 plus dollar for a pastry, I rather support a coffee shop that has real cups and indoor warm sitting spot. Not outside in mosquitos and cold breeze with your stale bitter coffee. Really need a competitive bakery on Solano. read more

Food was so so so perfect. So many pastry options it was crazy!!! So hard to decide what to pick. Even though we came close to closing, service was great and the workers helped us pick out some tasty treats. Overall ambiance is nice even though the store is small. Their other location on San Pablo is much cuter with a lot more seating, but the pastries here can't compete! read more

I was happy to see another "bakery" take over the former La Fourine spot. I saw a delivery of frozen pre-made cakes and pastries and that was a downer bc that seems to imply that some things might not be made there, but defrosted there. The bakery doesn't actually smell like baked goods so that should tell you something right there. Also, they don't let you sit at the inside tables which is weird. For a while, they didn't even have outside tables so there's nowhere to sit. The staff is also not friendly which adds to the uninviting vibe. read more

I've ordered cakes from Lavender Bakery many times for my daughter's birthdays, and they always turn out amazing. The cakes are flavorful, light, and beautifully decorated, and they have interesting flavors. Their service has been great every time. I also live close to their other location, Lavender Bread & Café, and I've spent many days working from there. I love the warm atmosphere, the super friendly staff, and the owners who are genuinely hospitable. It's a really comfortable place to get work done, with electrical outlets placed in all the right spots. Their drinks, breakfast, and lunch items are delicious, and they carry many of the same great cakes from the bakery. I would highly recommend both these places! read more

I ordered the Burnt Almond Cake thru the Yelp app (on a sleepless night) for my son's birthday around 4 am on Saturday (10/25) morning for delivery on Sunday 10/26. What can I saw? I have a weird sleep pattern and didn't want to forget. Cake arrived early on Sunday and looked beautiful! I tasted some of the almond crumb and it was delicious that I was tempted to cut into it. Gorgeous cake - moist, flavorful soft crumb even after being refrigerated all day. Cut beautifully even though the cake practically melts in your mouth. Lavender Bakery makes the most delicious cakes. I want to try the Neapolitan one next time. Flavor on this one was chocolate and vanilla with some sort of vanilla cream between the layers. Weird tip - it's ok to order online (for future delivery or pickup) when the bakery is closed. read more

We stumbled into this bakery called Lavender Bakery and Cafe in North Berkeley. This place has a huge assortment of delectable eats and one I especially enjoyed was the Guava mousse cake which was rich in Guava and so moist you can almost swallow it down whole. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I didn't try any of their drinks but I'll by swinging back here again for their delicious treats. read more

TLDR: Downright gorgeous delectable pastries, cakes and baked goods abound. Friendly service with tables inside and out to enjoy your newly found treats. Our Experiences: We don't happen by this corner of Berkeley much anymore, but Lavender Bakery makes the top end of Solano Avenue/Thousand Oaks even more attractive as a foodie destination these days. Our favorite here so far is the Burnt Almond Cake - available in a regular 8" cake size, and a single serving size. Covered in toasted almonds (not quite burnt, which is good), inside, you will find layers of chocolate cake interspersed with an amazing amaretto custard filling topped off by whipped cream and covered with clumps of toasted almonds. I saw the big 8" cake first, and then scanned for the single size, whose tray was already empty.... But.. don't panic if anything looks "sold out" from the display case. The friendly clerk checked for me, and pulled out the first of the next batch of single servings for the BAC straight from their kitchen! Wohoo! We also tried the Guava Mousse, which looked beautiful like all the rest, but the guava essence was a wee bit on the subtle side compared to the creme. Prices are quite reasonable for what you get too. I definitely look forward to coming back again soon for another Burnt Almond Cake and some of the other really great choices they bake every day! read more

I ordered a fruit tart as well as 2 large macarons from Lavender on Doordash. The fruit tart selection is more extensive in stores based on what I saw on the photos available on Yelp so the selection on the Doordash is more limited. The desserts were nicely boxed and arrived intact. The fruits on the fruit tart were really fresh and were tasty. The 2 large macarons were pistachio and mango passionfruit flavored which were both decent. Interestingly the pistachio tasted more like an almond lol. read more

This is hands down the best bakery for custom cakes in the Bay Area. We have had a Lavender cake every year on our daughter's birthday and will continue to do so. For her first birthday, they made us a stunning blue and white showstopper. For her second birthday, we didn't have a big party so we just popped in the bakery and bought a cake premade and had them write happy birthday on a chocolate plate thing. For her third birthday, which we just celebrated this weekend, they made us the most gorgeous cake that matched the dress she wore to her party. We received so many compliments about how amazing the cake looked and how beautifully it matched her dress. Their custom cakes are made with extreme craftsmanship and detail. Not only are they beautiful, well done, and high-end (both times our guests were surprised that it was a real cake lol) but they are also really well made desserts and tasty - moist, flavorful, and just perfectly sweet. For us taste is just as important as the appearance because there's nothing worse to me than a cake that looks really nice but is cloying or dry. Their cakes are the best, hands down. Best Burnt Almond Cake! It has enough filling for each cake bite and the fresh whipped cream seals the deal as well!! They told me you can order ahead for these mini size since people usually do, so you're not disappointed if they run out when you arrive. The young lady was so kind to double check if there were any extras and to my luck there was one left! So grateful since it was my first time and I don't live in the area! The mocha latte was delicious as well which was made with a piece of chocolate vs premade syrup. The chocolate almond croissant was delicious and will get again for sure! Sorry no pic, ate it too soon.. Also, had the fruit tart which in the future will pass on. Just not my preference. Forgot to take a pic.. Will definitely return when in the area! We got the guava mousse cake for my mom's birthday and it was amazing. Easily in the Top 5 list of all the cakes I've ever eaten in my life. Perfectly sweet, with the true flavor of guava really shining through. The texture was also beautiful, a thick dense mousse in between layers of cake. Everyone at the party asked me where I got it, and I was happy to tell them all about Lavender. Ordering was completely hassle-free and they even helped carry it out to my car when I picked it up. I will come back and get this bread again and hopefully it won't be burnt next time. The rye bread was gummy and there were too much going on with currents and walnuts but solid. The date croissant was very good and full of date paste and orange. My husband said it tasted like chocolate. It looks like a sandwich and is about a feet long. Will definitely come again but we must come early because at 10:00 a.m., there was a long line. I think the best time to come here is when they open at 8:00 a.m. or around that time.

The pastry case always looks beautiful and tempting, and the space feels relaxed and welcoming. They had just transitioned from the previous bakery/cafe, and I felt rather unceremoniously rushed out the door before closing. Not exactly the warm welcome one hopes for. However, like any good experiment, the first iteration isn't always perfect. Fast forward to my recent visits, and I'm pleased to report substantial improvements. Lavender has a high volume and turnover rate, which speaks to their growing popularity. Their food and drink offerings are solid, and for the area, the prices are refreshingly reasonable. It's a far cry from the cookie-cutter experience of a Starbucks. One area for improvement: cleanliness. I noticed the tables could use more frequent attention. I've been coming to lavender bakery regularly since opening and finally feel like I've tried enough to give a thorough review. So far, I have been very pleased with my experiences there. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming. Other reviews have complained about disorganization but I've seen significant improvements in their efficiency since the opening and I only see them improving more as time goes on. It's hard to compare Lavender to La Farine because they specialize in different things. Lavender is more of a pâtisserie focusing on cakes and high end desserts rather than breads. The selection of desserts is slightly overwhelming but the staff are great at giving suggestions based on what you are looking for. So far, I have enjoyed everything I've tried but my favorite desserts would have to be their new cream puffs, the rose macarons, shortbread cookies, and Persian napoleons. If you are lucky enough to get a croissant fresh out of the oven, they are heavenly, otherwise I recommend warming them in a toaster oven when you get home for a similar experience. I always bring one home to eat for breakfast in the morning and if you come after 6:00pm the croissants are buy one get one free! The drinks are also wonderful and I highly recommend the lavender latte, or lavender steamer. They also have a large selection of teas. I come here all the time ever since moving to Berkeley and I am in LOVE with this place! On top of that, I truly feel safe with the measures they have taken to protect their customers with the temperature check, marked signs, constant changing of gloves and mask enforcement. I also have yet to ever see another bakery have a wide selection like this in the area. It's great because not only can you pick up amazing coffee or sweets but it seems they do lots of custom cakes as well which have me intrigued. I'll try to update if I can make up an excuse to order something fancy like other customers here on Yelp :) I love their wide variety that's available here and always try something new, I'm never disappointed. I come here so often that their head chef and owner recognize me now and know me by name. In any other instance I would feel embarrassed, but they always make me feel right at home and very welcome. Finally got around to the review for Lavender bakery: "This review - in addition to having some of the most amazing baked goods - is truly about the service received on Thanksgiving morning. We had placed an order the week before to be picked up that morning.. and when I arrived to pick it up, there was some confusion and our order wasn't prepared for us. Now keep in mind, it's complete chaos with the place being full of people trying to pick up orders and buy whatever is still available at the shop. They could have easily said, sorry, we just can't help you and turned us away with a refund. However, the owner himself took time to let me know that they would start the ovens up and bake it all within the next couple of hours and deliver it to our house. THIS was just exceptional, above and beyond service and earned our repeat future business for as long as their doors remain open! Completely impressed!! I think it's apropos to say these gourmet bakeries are not a value; that said, I purchase things here because they're fancy and/or delicious. I will not return though, because today, the crappy customer service I received was the last straw. I've been here for three birthdays - every year that since living in the Bay Area - and each time encounter customer service that says more "Oh, you're here again, what do you need?!" No joy factor, no smile from ANYONE, and no thank you for spending $47 on a red velvet cake that is slightly larger than a brie disk. The younger girl with long hair working the register has zero personality and should probably be stocking the shelves with books at Barnes and Noble. Due to COVID I can't come visit her and am not vaccinated or anything so this was the next best thing I could do for her. Let me tell you. THIS BAKERY IS WORTH EVERY PENNY!!! Lavender Bakery is a lovely spot to visit, when in the mood for something sweet. I had been meaning to try this place, as it is located near my house, and my experience was wonderful. To begin, the cafe is decorated beautifully and elegantly, and everything appears very clean. Next, the service is great! The employees are very friendly and polite, very knowledgeable about the pastries and desserts they serve. Lastly, the coffee is good and the desserts are delicious! The selection is huge, and there are many different unique flavors to choose from. I recently tried the white chocolate drizzle brownie from here, a bakery I usually enjoy. However, this particular treat left me with mixed feelings. The appearance of the brownie was a bit disappointing. The white chocolate drizzle on top looked messy and unappealing. It was overly sweet, which made it difficult to enjoy the richness of the brownie itself. I usually have a sweet tooth, but this brownie was too much even for me. The combination of the already sweet brownie with the extra drizzle made it overwhelming. It is a great bakery. There is international variety in what they offer. The staff are very nice, pleasant and helpful. They know my coffee preference. As soon as they see me they start preparing the coffee and ask what else I would like to have that day when I get to the counter . If a fresh brew is likely to happen in a few minutes they ask if I would like to wait for that instead of taking the existing brew. I always say yes! Whoever is the staff that fixes my coffee, the coffee is always good. They have established a standard and trained everyone to deliver it. That is admirable.
