Lou Lou on Market hits a few marks - those that want to experience it for their menu, either brunch…read moreor dinner and those that want to sit on the patio or in a speakeasy environment for a cocktail. I visited this location to meet up with friends having dinner. They really enjoyed both of their dishes. The chicken carbonara is always a stand out here. They also shared a salmon appetizer however, I heard them both remarked how seasoned and salty it was. The patio is quite large. We had made a reservation, and although we requested to sit there, that didn't happen. A table for two was the only option. So we replaced inside near a window, which was as close to being outside as you could be, but be forewarned. It will be a warmer seating area with the sun coming through the window. The speakeasy downstairs looked enjoyable. I loved the lounging couches and chair chairs when you first went down the steps. It offers a particular vibe without it necessarily being hidden or extremely dark inside. Put this on your list as your destination spot or to grab a cocktail before or after a show downtown. Parking is street parking, which is competitive for all the other venues around the area. Make sure to download your parking app because most of it is metered until a certain hour of the evening.

"Down on the corner Out in the street…read moreWilly and the poorboys are playin' Bring a nickel, tap your feet" (Creedence Clearwater Revival) Believe it or not, there's a section of downtown Louisville known as Whiskey Row. The Corner restaurant is smack in the middle of Whiskey Row and you won't be disappointed when I tell they sell over 90 different bourbons. The interior is an eclectic mix of tables, chairs, sofas and seating nooks. Some of their space is shared with the Aloft Louisville Downtown hotel, a Marriott boutique hotel. We grabbed two seats at the bar and had two cocktails and two salads for lunch. Our drinks were a Pomegranate Mule ($13.00) with Pomegranate, ginger beer, vodka, and lime, and a regular Margarita. I had a Chicken Cobb Salad ($15.00) with chicken, romaine, deviled eggs, avocado, charred sweet corn, cherry tomato, radish, pickled onion, sunflower seeds, ranch, lemon drizzle. It was excellent, but the Deviled Eggs were missing and replaced by avocado slices. My traveling companion had a Classic Caesar ($13.00) with Romaine, Caesar dressing, parmesan croutons, and crispy kale. She added Chicken for a $6.00 upcharge. The Corner is "dog friendly" and we were thoroughly entertained by the antics of a Great Dane and Bulldog as they interacted. Our server was fantastic, and I'm sorry I missed her name, although I did take a few photos of her mixing and shaking some cocktails.

The bacon was thick and a great portion. The fries are thin and super salty. I'd recommend a different side to go with your sandwich. I noticed a pick two for a salad, soup, or sandwich. It included a drink, which made it a good deal. The menu offers several breakfast and sandwich items, plus bakery, salads, and sides. Plenty of seating and I enjoyed the brightness of the main room with its high ceilings. We had a table of 40+ people. The food came out together and our server hustled with a smile.

I started off with a diet coke and it fell flat. The menu listed a fountain drink and it was coke served from a soda gun. The carbonation wasn't strong and didn't last past the first few sips. I ordered off the breakfast menu and got the huevos rancheros and a blueberry muffin. The eggs were cooked to order and the potatoes were delicious! The muffin was okay. It was a bit on the dry side and would be skipped next time. My friend got a BLT and wasn't impressed. One piece of bread was soft while the other was hard, almost stale. It's a beautiful space but the meal was a disappointment.

Decided we'd do a dinner of beer cheese, salad and wings. Enjoyed the beer cheese and pretzels, though it's not something that I'd order regularly. When ordering, she said she'd give me one or two of hers, but she liked them so much that she finished off the plate, so that's a rave review! My hot wings were reasonably spicy and meaty as well. I was taken to the bar-area, and the barista was extremely nice and helpful in choosing my appetizer (fried pickles) and of course, getting my taste of my first Hot-Brown. The pickles were absolutely delicious. Fresh, crisp, with a bit of sour. Absolute 5/5. Now on to the Hot Brown ---- this is hot open-faced sandwich --- let me stop, here's the accurate description: thick-sliced turkey and bacon on toast, smothered in a creamy Mornay (cheese) sauce, and baked until bubbly. What I liked about their particular hot-brown (like i could compare...), was that the bread was torn into pieces, so it was very easy to eat. I get it now , Louisville! I had a half ruben sandwich and a bowl of white chili. Both were excellent. A huge half sandwich and a large hearty bowl of white chili. The chili was flavorful but not spicy. It had lots of shredded chicken, beans and corn (which could have been left out in my opinion). My friend had the chicken salad sandwich and the white chili and said her sandwich was good, also a very large. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, parking on the side and in the back of the building. I had not been for years but it was a good choice for a late lunch.
