This is an update to my re iew last month. I had my car serviced at Fast Muffler at 6916 N Clark St. today. I originally requested in writing, that Lawando to do 3 things for my car: fix the noise from my power steering. Fix the clunking sound in my front end, examine my engine area for a mlnoise which I thought came from a belt. What he actually said he did was replace a power steering hose, did nothing for the clunking, and nothing for the noise near engine. And he went ahead and did a complete brake job I did not request or authorize. I have not yet confirmed he actually did the brakes. He provided no invoice and no receipt. And he massively overcharged me, he basically did almost nothing for a big fee. At Fast muffler, they observed power steering fluid spilt all over engine bay, and a new hose. My car still makes a steering noise. Lawando tried but failed to fix it. Next, the clunk in the front was simply a bent spring that taps the frame when hitting a bump. Third, the noise near engine is normal, but I should try some oil stabilizer to quiet it down. Fast Muffler also changed my exhaust quickly and at a great price. LAWANDO'S IS FANTASTIC! I brought my 2008 Saturn Aura in because i was having trouble with the power steering, not being able to turn the wheel easily when stopped, or at low speeds. They put it up on the lift and diagnosed the problem on-the-spot: a ruptured power steering hose; spraying steering fluid everywhere. They gave me an estimate, and i left the car with them. Did some research online, and their estimate was at the VERY low end. They called the next day; it was ready. No unhappy surprises, the cost was exactly the estimate they quoted me. Only caveat: Lawando's adds a surcharge if you pay with credit card. Had i known this, i would have brought my checkbook or cash. Even with the extra charge ($10), this was way at the low end of estimates, so i didn't much care. Well, about three weeks later, my steering began making some strange, disconcerting noises. I brought it back to Lawando's. They put it up on the lift, and had to clean away grease and road grime to get a good look at the affected area. They spent around 20 minutes with it; apparently something with the steering's rack and pinion wasn't secured with the proper torque (still not sure what that means), so they tightened it up. Long story short, they seem to have fixed the problem. When i asked them how much i owed them, they said it was no charge. They refused to take any money, even though they added quite a bit of power steering fluid. How cool is that? Hoping my car doesn't break down any time soon, but when it does; i'm bringing it to Lawando's. You should too. read more

This place is unbelievable! I brought in my car after getting an estimate from a Toyota dealer that was in the thousands of dollars, and it just didn't seem right. Sam diagnosed the problems and fixed the car in under an hour. AND, charged me significantly less money!! I love this place and will not go anywhere else. Lawando's has the best service I've ever experienced. A couple days ago I slid into a wall due to Chicago's crazy weather, it threw my alignment off and bent my tire rod. Lawando's is amazing. They always provide quick service, are able to solve all my mechanical needs and always give me a really good price. I have a VW with a wheel lock and I have lost my wheel lock. I got a flat tire and could not remove the wheel lock. I drove on a flat to Lawandos and he said he had a special tool to remove the tire. Most auto places would not remove my tire and I would have had to tow my car to the dealership (which would have cost a lot more). He was able to remove the tire and put on a new one, also giving me a great price. They are always there when I have car troubles and they are very good people. The car I took in to Lawando's Auto Service had an issue with the antifreeze leaking which caused the car to overheat. I called Sam and told me to bring it in to look at. He had the car for 2 days and fixed it completely. The car needed a new radiator. It's not leaking anymore, not overheating and drives beautifully. His prices are very reasonable as well. I agree with Erika, these guys are charming and flexible about in and out times. and worked on it so quickly that I got it back right away. Also I feel they're honest. My car was already on the wane when I brought it in, and they were straightforward about what it really needed and didn't so I could squeeze the last juice out of it. However, I should say they were not able to help me when my engine wasn't passing the emissions tests, long story, but I had to go to the Toyota dealer to really fix the engine. read more

This was probably the worst place I've visited to get my car fixed. I had problem with my heating system in my car. I was getting cold air instead of heat. I left my car there for 2 days to get it fixed. After I've picked up my car 2 days later the problem I had was not fixed at all. I started get cold air few minutes after driving it. I paid more money to fix than it usually cost. When I ask for refund due to car not being fixed, the owner with a foul mouth immediately refuse. I wasted my money and time there. Please avoid this crapy shot. They have no knowledge of how to fix anything. AVOID IT. read more

I bought a temporary, second-hand car (Temporary because my family and I are not planning to live in Chicago for good.) and was sadly duped by the seller who happens to be a friend. It had a lot of issues especially safety ones but fortunately the staff here especially Zach (?), I think that his name, fixed everything all for a very fair price! These guys are great. I've been searching for a reliable, honest mechanic for about a year now, and these guys I think are it. I needed a new muffler last week and they replaced it quickly, cheaply, and they even showed me exactly what was wrong with the car. Really friendly and helpful brothers working the place. It's a family affair. I have to go back in this morning because a protection plate is banging on the new muffler and just needs a screw to hold it in place. This is an old problem unrelated to the work they did -- the screw and plate are just rusted and old. It should be an easy, quick solution, and I'll update this review once they have worked on it. UPDATE: I took in my care to secure that plate and I was in and out in about 3 1/2 minutes, free of charge. My review remains at 5 stars. read more

I usually really don't care to put a a review but in this case I have to. I had an accident and brought the car in for an estimate. Now I simply hit the curb due to slippery road. I took the car in and check with Lawondo's to see the damages. The older tech looked at it for like 2 minutes and said controller arm is bent and needs to be replaced. He said 250$ for everything. I didn't bother with insurance at this point because it less than my 500$ deductible. When I got the car back they said my rim is chipped and needs to be replaced to be safe. I took to car home and immediately i can hear really loud grinding noises as i drive. I did some research and it sounded like wheel bearing noise. I took the car back and they replaced wheel bearing which costs 200$. Took it home and still more noises as I was driving. I brought the car back again and asked them why is it still making noises and this time the old tech finally for the first time test drive my car and said breaks and rotors need replacement which was another 170$. I asked him why this is not all checked out before returning me the car. The old guy said i didn't ask to check breaks. Note they are the mechanics not me. I also asked the tech that was fixing my car why he didn't test drive it after fixing it and quote for quote he said "they would not let us test drive cars man". I also bought my own rim for 170$ and 20$ for replacing it. Now I have paid 810$. My car still was making noises when I drove it back home. This time I took it to another shop which was call north park auto. Tom diagnosed my car which I had to leave there for like 2 hours for him to check everything. He drove my car around checked called me back and showed me the the controller arm that was put in has a ball joint that was not making proper contact as doing upward and downward movement. This would need to be replaced again. Now this shop didn't even charge me anything for this diagnosis. I brought back the car to Lawando's again for like the 10 times now and told them that they need to replace the controller arm under warranty. They everyone gather around me saying its impossible and issue is like now with my tires having uneven treads making noises( note my car was bought brand new and never had any accident prior to this). I insisted that they change it out. They said that the tech at North park auto does not know what he was talking about. They said that would not solve anything but they will honor their warranty and replace the controller arm. I brought the car back and Zack told me to test drive it. Surely most of the noises went away leaving just a slight noise from the wheel rotating which i suspect would be an alignment issue. Zack said he test drove the car and it was perfect and there was nothing else that can be done. He told me "life is too short" and I was thinking too much. At this point I know these guys are not going be able to fix my car even if i left it there any longer. Now i'm down 800$ and wasted an entire week of going back and forth and still has yet to completely fixed my car. In summary, are these guys fast? yes. Do they know how to replace parts? yes. Do they know how to diagnose issue? yes but they are too quick to do so. Do they care if your car is fixed? FUCK NO. If you want an oil change or replacing a headlight by all means stop by, they can get it done quick. Beyond that, stay the fuck away. read more

These people have changed. they used to be nice and helpful people but lately they haven't been. I have no idea what got into them. I used to bring my car here every 3 months for an oil change and occassionally for minor mechanical work and they would generally be very helpful and inexpensive also. Maybe they stopped liking me personally or maybe they just don't care to provide quality customer service. I went to have them fix a part in my car and they seemed bothered that I was there and recommended I go to Sears auto for a free estimate on the parts that need to be changed..kinda ridiculous when I'm not a bother at all and all I want is some work done on my car. Willing to pay whatever reasonable amount but I don't know they just have changed. Specifically zack, one of the brothers who owns this place. I consider myself a Lawando's veteran, having used them when they were at a shop just off Western Avenue, and Zach was still too young to take cars in himself and John was the guy who did most of the work. We had a used car at the time, a beater really, and John treated the car like it was a priceless antique. He always gave my husband as much time as he needed to explain his problem, go through the possible solutions together and get it repaired, always telling him how he could do it at the least possible expense, knowing that our dollars were tight. For a few years there after we bought a new car, we didn't see John much, except sometimes in passing to wave or say hello after he opened the new shop he has now on Foster and Kimball. Life is cyclical and our once-brand-new Jeep is now an older car (a beater, really, but don't tell my husband) and John, Sam and Zach welcomed us back with open arms - like long lost friends - to provide regular service and repair whenever we've needed it. They treat me so kindly, never hurry us, never insist on anything but the minimum work and expense needed, and I know it'd be way more somewhere else. They're just such nice guys and so competent that you don't have to worry when you hand them the keys. I recommend them without reservation and hope they never retire - I don't know where I'll go if they ever do! read more

I went to Lawandos on the corner of Foster and Kimball because my check engine sign was on. First of all, they never called me to tell me that my car was done. When Igot there, they told me the bill was $264. They had no receipt and the ownwer didn't have a receipt for me. I asked him what he had done to the car; he said he replaced a valve. He said come back tomorrow for the receipt beacuse he had no carbon paper. I went back the next day for the receipt. He made another excuse. I saw a stack of carbon receipts behind the desk, and demanded that he write a receipt for the work. He did. The last straw was that who ever worked on my car took a change purse full of quarters from my glove compartment. I do know better than to leave something like that in my car, but these guys were complete a@#holes. Everty time I asked the owner a question, he acted like it was a great imconvenience to answer me.
